“Send Coach John a message”I found a combo item here to share with you today.  First comes from a difference-maker Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) where he shared this thought: “Until you find a way to make yourself happy, you'll never have any chance to make others happy.”  It's a fine line to recognize the fact that we need to take care of ourselves throughout life and many times it's not easy to do.  The other part of the “combo meal” was the recent podcast from John O'Leary - where he and his guest Elizabeth Svoboda discuss “The Art of Pacing” and taking time in our lives to be careful of burning out.  Amazing things to think about deeply with the person in our own mirror and to start making plans for finding a few more moments to take care of ourselves a bit more.   Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.  ** I would appreciate anyone to try clicking on the top of the show notes where it says "Send us a text" to leave a few thoughts / comments / questions.  It's a new feature that I'd like to see how it works. **

Brian talks with Gary Schneeberger, assistant to the president for media relations at Focus on the Family, about the ministry's search for a new president as Jim Daly, nearing 65, begins a planned transition after 20 years of leadership. Gary explains the search process — conducted with the help of a search firm over an expected 12 to 18 months, landing near the ministry's 50th anniversary in 2027 — and reflects on Daly's legacy of refocusing the organization on marriage, parenting, and walking out faith in the public square, following founder Dr. James Dobson's more prophetic, public-policy-driven era. Gary shares why Daly wants to model a healthy leadership handoff to a next-generation leader attuned to today's cultural challenges, and says the top qualification the board is seeking is unchanged biblical conviction consistent with the ministry's 50-year history.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

“Send Coach John a message”I found a post from Damon West (@damonwest7) that reminded me about how to get my day going.  He shared this:  “Start your day with one question: how am I going to show up today for myself and for others?  Because your attitude, your effort, and your presence will shape every room you walk into.”  Then spend the day doing your best to be your best for yourself and others.  In all that I have to do, mowing the lawn for example, I need to show up and do my best since I can't do the entire lawn at once - I need to focus in and get the front yard done today and do it the best that I can despite the pain I'm in.  I need to show up and do my best, even when I run an errand that has to get done. Every little thing that we do, it's better when we show up and do our best. **

“Send Coach John a message”I came across a fabulous reminder that is connected to a legend who just passed away.  Gratitude HQ (@gratefuledu64) shared this quote from Dolly Parton “If you see someone without a smile today, give ‘em yours.”  What a fantastic reminder for us to not only help others, but it's also a simple way for us to help ourselves too.  It's also something that is so simple to do and yet, it has a wonderful result attached to it too.  So many people are carrying worries among other things, that a simple smile can remind them of better things.  The legacy of Dolly Parton is something that is being shared all over the world by so many different people since she passed away recently.  What a legacy she has left for us to help live better lives. In this livestream, Patrick, the movement specialist at New Biology Clinic, guest hosts while Tom is away and shares his perspective on movement, posture, foot mechanics, and the meaning behind “healing is hell when you're on your heels.”Highlights from this session include:-Patrick introduces his background in movement training, including 15 years of experience working with people of all ages, abilities, injuries, surgeries, and physical challenges.-He explains that the body is not flawed, but is constantly communicating. When symptoms are ignored or masked, he says the body often “gets louder” until we pay attention.-He discusses the importance of the feet as the foundation of movement, especially how many people carry their weight back on their heels.-He breaks down the body's mobile-stable-mobile-stable pattern, explaining how a stiff ankle can create compensations in the knee, hip, lower back, and beyond.-He compares the foot to the gas and brake pedals of a car: the ball of the foot helps propel the body forward, while the heel acts like a brake.-He connects being heavy on the heels with stiffness, compression, frozen joints, collapsed arches, bunions, knee issues, hip issues, and lower back pain.-He emphasizes the difference between “exercising” and “training,” encouraging people to move with attention, intention, awareness, and curiosity.-He discusses how emotional and psychological stress can show up physically in the body, often influencing posture, tension, and the way someone stands or moves.-He encourages gentle, present movement rather than forcing the body, and reminds viewers that the goal is to help the body feel safe enough to communicate and reorganize.Questions discussed in this webinar include:-My heel is painful. What can I do?-Do you know Doctor Reich Hammer?-About toe walking in toddlers. Back in the day, I recall talk of it being bad. I am now wondering if it really is a good thing off those heels.-Why do, why do humans favor their heels if it doesn't work for us?-I know I have been using my body in wrong ways, and that that is the basis of the physical problems in my right leg coming from my frozen pelvis. But is it true that unresolved emotions store themselves in the hips as well?-Any effect down the pipe on body weight increase?-Hey, Pat, I'll be starting PT again and tired of repeatedly beginning baby steps. Once I've become able to walk and run easily, I intend to go on to the treadmill and the elliptical. Any suggestions you have for me are welcome.Additional comments discussed include:-An autistic young man at my sister's wedding walked around all day on his tiptoes like a cow. I was fascinated. Since then, when fatigue sets in on long labor days, I walk on my tiptoes.-In childhood, I walked with the front half of my foot to try to be taller, as I was the youngest one in the family. It helped strengthen my calves, and it helped to outrun the guys on the playground.Throughout the webinar, Patrick emphasizes that movement begins with awareness, that the feet influence the entire body, and that healing requires listening to the body's signals rather than forcing, ignoring, or outsourcing the process.Support the showWebsites:https://drtomcowan.com/https://www.drcowansgarden.com/https://newbiologyclinic.com/https://newbiologycurriculum.com/Instagram: @TalkinTurkeywithTomFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrTomCowan/Bitchute: https://www.bitchute.com/channel/CivTSuEjw6Qp/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzxdc2o0Q_XZIPwo07XCrNg

“Send Coach John a message”I found a fabulous post from Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13), which by the way every post he puts out there is to help others. He's the author of one of my favorite books, “Hurdle-isms - Wit and Wisdom from a Lifetime in Baseball.”  Check Coach out along with his book too!  Two things I found from a recent post of his all dealing with some of his connections to Alcoholics Anonymous. First, he reminds us “by the way, it costs $0 to cheer for others.”  What an amazing and powerful reminder for all of us.  In a world where things seem to be crazier and crazier each and every day (especially in our country due to one person and his out of touch supporters), we all can do something to cheer on others and lift them up!  There was also this quote as part of his post too: “If you think that you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito!”   That one for sure hammers home the point about we are never too small to make a difference for others.  My friends, keep finding things to remind you about the great things you can accomplish for others and that will lead you to doing the same for yourself too! **

“Send Coach John a message”Another fired up post that I found and it reminds me of so many things. It comes from  Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and the simple message is:  “Be someone who still tries.” The details of the post are here:  “Be someone who still tries.  After failure, frustrations, and heartache - be a person who musters up the courage to try and believe that good things are yet to come.”   A big part of this is realizing every single human has failures, frustrations and heartache!  It's up to us to choose what we will do with those things.  Just like yesterday's message, this one too reminds us to keep going and to keep caring!!  I had a great conversation with my good friend Joe D. (former boss) - and one of the things we spoke about was the old saying, “do not grow weary doing good.”   Joe gave me a copy of “The 10 Commandments of Leadership” from Dr. Kent M. Keith, and one of them as this: #2 “If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.  Do good anyway.”  Keep trying my friends! But you know what?  As I reflect and connect to this concept, I look back at all the times where I took my foot off the accelerator and just did things that were fun (watch t.v., spend time playing games, time on my phone and computer looking up nonsense, etc.), then I felt down about myself.  I felt drained actually.  I felt tired and worn out.  Then I had no focus and energy to do things that really mattered and were important.  There is the thought, if we always choose what's easy and fun all the time, later the price to be paid is a lot worse. Our life will not be fun and it will be more difficult than it really had to be.  This does not mean to never have fun. It's a necessary part of life for sure. But not all the time. **

“Send Coach John a message”I found an amazing post to start my day with today and it came from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shared this thought:  “A message for today … Be kind. Be understanding. Listen. Love openly. Give without expecting anything in return. And when you mess up, make it right. Always be the best person you can be.” There is more to his post that I shared in today's episode and here are my thoughts as I reposted Mark's post from today:  “What a unique way to go out and face the day… a powerful way too… taking control back and choosing how to be in a very “loud, angry and distraction-filled world!” Thanks for the reminder @MPHickie”  In seeing and feeling what is going on in our world today, this different viewpoint on how we can choose how to go about our day - just a bit different than what the “normal” seems to be.  I for one know that I need to take this view with me a bit more every day!! **

“Send Coach John a message”Another gem of a reminder came across my wire this morning and it comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and the reminder was this:  “It's time to get more aggressive about the life you want.”  The time is now.  We are all running out of it and it's later than we think.  Have that conversation with the person in the mirror as to what this is made up of.  The little things that only you know about that have to do.  Amazing things that you can start to work on towards your health, finances, relationships, etc.  Keep taking little but aggressive steps toward the things you want to make your life be all about.  Also, take the aggressive steps towards removing the things, people, thoughts, words we speak to ourselves, etc., that keep us from building the life we want to build.  Lot's of work to do - but totally worth it. Start today! Your future self will be proud you did. **

“Send Coach John a message”Wow.. did I need to find this one and connect with it. It comes from Mind Decoded Psch (@mindDecodedpsch) and they are sharing this thought that: “You don't need more time.”  The main post shares this:  “Protect your focus.  It's your greatest advantage.”   This hit me hard as I re-posted it with this thought:  “Looking back, I've done mostly a poor job at this … I know I will keep trying to get better.”  It's true.  We don't need to look to have more time if we keep having poor habits that our life is influenced by. There are so many examples every single day where I know a little more focus would help me more than I know.  Our focus helps us to make choices and do things we need to do in order to live our best lives.  Think about all the times where this is true.  Look in your rear-view mirror and connect how true this statement is.  I know I sure do have plenty of times in my past. The key is for me (and us) to learn from those moments, not to beat ourselves up about them.  Keep.  Getting.  Better!  Look to protect your focus, just once.  Then do it again. And again.  I sure do know that I need to work on this one moment at a time.  I will keep trying for sure. **

On their third album they began working with off-and-on collaborator Walter Becker of Steely Dan and they morphed into something entirely different. This pairing, odd as it sounds, worked wonders and separated China Crisis from their peers. Maybe chart toppers weren't in their future, but a career of high quality was. Gary connects these dots for us and also discusses their future plans which, in the short-term, include touring the US with the Lost 80s Live tour that kicks off in a couple weeks. “Send Coach John a message”This comes from one of my daily readings from the book “Areté: Activate Your Heroic Potential” - by Brian Johnson and today's thought is titled “The Worse A Person Is - The Less They Feel It.”  It comes down to a couple of things. First is the fact that the worse we feel about ourselves, the more we are going to see the worst in others. Also, they won't see this in themselves either. They certainly won't react well or even listen to you, if you are the one trying to point this out to them.  Finally, why would we or anyone want to try and see the approval of people like this - no matter how popular they are, how good looking they are, how “wealthy” they are, what they can do for us, etc. This is right from the passage:  “So, if you're getting impatient and rude with people around you, you might want to check in and see how you're feeling about YOURSELF.” It goes on to mention how we may want to keep investing in doing the little things, to bring out our best in ourselves & to keep growing and improving.  I think so much of the world is connected to learning from this - including me! **

“Send Coach John a message”The second piece (that I talked about yesterday) was this from a total legend.  Zig Ziglar  (@TheZigZiglar) has had tons of influence on millions and millions of people. He shared these valuable and timeless lessons:  “Skills, knowledge, character, faith, and discipline continue producing value long after material rewards fade. Every lesson you learn and every strong habit you build expands what you are capable of contributing. Investing in yourself is not only about achieving more. It is about becoming more valuable to the people you are called to serve.”  The post goes on to remind us about this pure gold thought by sharing this quote: “The greatest investment you will ever make is in the person you are becoming.”  It is becoming more and more apparent to me that if I keep striving to be my best - in all areas of my life (knowing that some days I will fall short & to give myself some grace and keep going), those that I love and care for (and total strangers) will have an easier life because of the choices I made. “Send Coach John a message”I just found a couple of reminders for myself and for you, my favorite listener - the first one comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) who shares this powerful lesson and reminder for any human being going through “stuff”... which means all of us.  The reminder is this:  “Who we become in the process is the real reward.”  It's connected to this thought from Brad Stulberg, The Way of Excellence - “There is no greater illusion than thinking the accomplishment of some goal will change your life.  What will change your life is who you become in the process of going for it.”  What an outstanding observation and truth.  I find it overwhelmingly emotional to grab onto this truth! The sooner we do connect to it the better off our life experiences will be. The second amazing find for me this morning, I'll share with you tomorrow. (sorry for the teaser). I'm just looking to make sure I do this episode the best that I can, which means one thing at a time my friends. **

The Last Mile of Family Planning: Lessons from Lafiya in Nigeria

In a single program area in northern Nigeria, contraceptive use climbed from 2% to over 70%. This change wasn't caused by a new technology, but happened because of one new strategy: centering trust. In this episode, Jonathan Jackson and Amie Vaccaro sit down with Klau Pakos, CEO and co-founder of Lafiya, to unpack how their organization closes the "last mile" gap in family planning in some of the hardest-to-reach communities in Northern Nigeria. Women in these communities often already know about contraception, but too often travel hours to a clinic only to be turned away empty-handed. Lafiya's answer is the Lafiya Sisters — trusted local health workers who bring counseling and self-injectable contraceptives directly into communities. Klau shares the visceral reality of women facing extreme maternal mortality risks, walks through how Lafiya became a true partner to the government rather than a vendor with a fixed model, and explains why they resist the pull of shiny new technology until it's proven necessary. As they put it, family planning "brings the foundation for everything else", creating ripple effects across health, income, and autonomy that data alone can't fully capture. A candid, practical conversation for anyone trying to scale impact alongside government systems.Related Resources:Lafiya  – Klau's organization, which trains local "Lafiya Sisters" to deliver family planning counseling and self-injectable contraceptives to underserved communities in northern Nigeria. D-Prize – A seed funding organization that awards grants to entrepreneurs testing new business or charity models that distribute proven poverty-intervention technologies Charity Entrepreneurship – An incubator program that helps founders launch high-impact, cost-effective charities.Rethink Priorities: Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Lafiya Nigeria – The independent modeling Klau references, estimating Lafiya's cost per DALY averted and per maternal life saved.Sayana Press (DMPA-SC) via Pfizer – An all-in-one, self-injectable contraceptive that lasts for three months and is optimized for low-resource environments due to its lack of a cold chain requirement.https://www.fp2030.org/ - A global partnership dedicated to advancing rights-based family planning, which the Nigerian government has contributed to for over a decade. “Send Coach John a message”I shared this post that I found from Mindset Machine (@mindsetmachine) because it's something that I do want to have these moments in my life. The quote is this:  “Make sure your life is full of “I can't believe I did it” instead of “I wish I did it.””  Just imagine you getting to say this more and more.. That you did things that you were proud of along with your loved ones being proud too.  Imagine a string of days, months and years piled up that this statement was true!  Wow.. that would be a fabulous life.  Something that I need to work on for sure. **

“Send Coach John a message”I saw this reminder yesterday and I wanted to share it with you today. I've shared this before, both on my podcasts but also as a teacher. I shared Coach Jimmy Valvano's (Coach Jimmy V) lessons and speeches with my students for many years. This short clip reminds us that ordinary people accomplish extraordinary things. All throughout history this has been true.  You don't have to be born a special person to do great things.  It's not all about having millions of “followers” or being an “influencer”.  Remember, we all influence others every single day - we especially influence ourselves!  That's why as I've always shared one of what I think is many of life's lessons - always look to keep getting better. Be a life-long learner every single day of your life!  Self Improvement & Personal Development are two of the best things we can always do in life!  Click HERE for the link and / or simply search for his videos. **

“Send Coach John a message”I found something that reminded me about the person I want to keep trying to be. It comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and this is what was shared:  “Be someone who still tries.  After failure, frustrations, and heartache - be a person who musters up the courage to try and believe that good things are yet to come.”  I love this!  I want to have the mindset to keep trying everyday in my life. There are plenty of times where I don't feel like it, but I know I need to have a stronger “don't quit” attitude.  Again, this is another reminder for every single human to realize we all struggle throughout life and we all have a choice as to how to respond to those struggles.  I need to just keep having more moments where I don't quit. It's an everyday battle to work on. **

“Send Coach John a message”I found a great post from John O'Leary for his Monday Morning Motivation. It's a long post, but it sure is worth connecting with.  Find it HERE. It sure does hit home for us to find the lessons here dealing with regrets, those people we love, memories, life lessons, the past, forgiveness, conversations, and a ton of other life moments we all go through.  The key is how do we stay connected to things that John is reminding us about. How can we start living in the moment with things like what he's talking about.  Do me a favor, listen to John O'Leary sharing his thoughts as he's much better at it than I am. **
