“Send Coach John a message”Super lesson here - I needed this reminder to keep striving to be kind to others. From Spencer Rayner (@spencerrayner) “Retweet from @ColinSpenc4257 Thought of The Day. #SuccessTRAIN #JoyTRAIN - You're never too important to be nice to people!” Simple message, yet for some people it's the most challenging thing ever! You can be successful, heck even rich and “important”, but don't ever think that entitles you to be a mean person to others. We need to be better. We need to do better! Remember, I'm in the front of this line needing this advice!  Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.  ** I would appreciate anyone to try clicking on the top of the show notes where it says "Send us a text" to leave a few thoughts / comments / questions.  It's a new feature that I'd like to see how it works. **

“Send Coach John a message”Love the thoughts and reflections being laid down like a perfect bunt - by one of the best in the game… not just the game of baseball, but the game of life! Thanks Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) for this gem: “1.3 million Earths fit inside the sun, there are 3 billion stars in our galaxy and there are 2 trillion galaxies. The nearest star aside from the sun is 4.5 light years away. And I make things about me, yes? Wow.”  When you look at the sheer numbers with this post, it sure does get me thinking about things. Especially the odds of even being born… Less than 1 in over 400 Trillion!!  When you see these thoughts (I would call them simple facts), it sure does get us to pause and really think about how life can't just be about ourselves! The more I let this sink in, the better I feel.  I feel less pressure, less weight on my shoulders, less tension - all due to the fact that life is not just about me. When I start looking to help others, I start not only feeling better about my troubles, but I also am finding new ways to look at my issues and new ways of solving them!! **

“Send Coach John a message”I came across a quote that really connected with what I've been drawn to a lot lately. It's from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) and it reminds us about this:  “Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.” - Eleanor Roosevelt.  Now, this has made me think about how great minds talk about ideas and things to make things better for others and themselves. To solve problems. To come up with inspiration to help others. Average minds talk about the weather. Events that may be popular and even important on some levels, but they don't pull out any lessons from those events to make things better. Small minds - they just love to point out faults of others. To “arm-chair” quarterback, always saying they could do better than so and so in charge, but in reality - they don't do much to help out or to solve problems. They gossip a lot. I've been all three types - all throughout my life, heck … even yesterday I was all three. I know I need to strive to be more of a great mind for sure.  We have way too many “small minds” around us. Don't believe me? Just watch the news a bit to see them and look around online too.The other thing that came up in this discussion was from Mindful Maven (@mindfulmaven_) - where this was shared: “It's a full time job to believe in yourself. No off days!” This goes hand in hand with raising the bar for ourselves and working towards having a great mind for sure! **

“Send Coach John a message”Found a double scoop of reflection this morning. First scoop comes from Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) where he shares  “A message for today … Sometimes growth isn't about adding … it's about releasing what no longer serves you. Let go of things that hold you back. When you create space, you make room for clarity, peace & new opportunities. Lighten the load. Trust yourself. Move forward free.”  Powerful thoughts to help us see the freedom of letting go of things that cause ourselves troubles. It's all part of moving towards our own happiness and well-being. The second scoop came from Clint Hurdle (@ClintHurdle13) and his book “Hurdle-isms”. It's Hurdle-ism 17: “Lower the Bar and You Lose the Winners; Raise the Bar and You Lose the Losers.”  WOW… Big time double scoop of things that can help all of us. I was thinking about these two on my walk with our dog this morning. Always a walk of peace, thinking, watching, listening, etc. This got me going today realizing that I need to keep raising the bar in my life. The person that stares back at us in the mirror knows! I've recently been reading “Hurdleᐤisms - Wit and Wisdom from a Lifetime in Baseball” by Clint Hurdle.  Find more connections to Clint HERE.   Find the book HERE. This gem comes from Hurdle-ism 16 -(pg. 68)  “I'm Just Trying to Be a Simple Person in a Complex World!”  We are in a complex world for sure. In fact, during my 60 years on this planet - I can speak for myself that this is the most complex time during my lifetime. I like how he connects so many different connections in this passage to trying to “take care of the tasks in front of me one by one.”  I need to do a much better job on simplifying the way I approach life in general, but for sure - my life! This helps all of us (me for sure) to ride the waves of the ups and downs of life, which I have been trying to do for a long time. “Send Coach John a message”I found a great recipe for living a great life. It has 3 parts, which for me is easy (still tough for me) to remember and connect with. This gem comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) and it reminds me of going after and building a “great” life that is made up of my definition and not so much of what the “world” says our life should be made up of. Awesome quote here: “The only way to achieve greatness in life is to have patience, consistency, and discipline.” -  David Goggins (who wrote a powerful book, “Can't Hurt Me” which I read last year).  This is connected with a few other items that have been on my mind and heart that I want to share in a few future episodes.  Those 3 items of patience, consistency and discipline are things that I have been connected with and sometimes focused on - but usually not connected together and not as deep as I need to be focused on. Again, intentional focus is something that I need to connect with these 3 items for sure! **

“Send Coach John a message”I found first thing this morning a post shared from a favorite person of mine, Mark Hickie (@MPHickie) who is again, someone I connected with online and not in person… yet.. Who knows, maybe someday I will get a chance to meet face to face.  Mark shared some thoughts before his post - “We have no idea what anyone is really dealing with. We have no idea of the battles they have faced & are still facing. Everyone is going through something so why not be kind. Why not offer compassion & gentleness knowing that we have no idea what someone is really going through.”  This hit me hard as this morning, only after seeing some things online for 10 minutes or so, I got really sad and down as to what people continually do and say to others that simply don't do any good at all for anyone. I'm thinking about what Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee) says all the time. The people spewing out all of the hate, negativity, anger, blaming others, etc., are all simply showing the pain and anger they are trying to deal with in their lives. It's really a look into who they are, what they are thinking (or hiding) and they know no different as to how to deal with others. My thoughts on Mark's post was this: “Everyone … every single human being goes through tough times, battles, pain, fear, doubt, tears, etc. - To me it's the Great Human Connector to all of us! Throughout history this is something we've all had to deal with. For those always piling on, putting others down (1 of 2) - Making fun of others, intentionally causing trouble for others, causing others pain, etc.; Please figure out we are WAY more alike than we are different. View things from their perspective. All of us have been through the tough odds of even being born! It's not that difficult!” I'm continually getting down, sad, upset, even angry at all of this crud going on in our world.  I refuse to jump in and start bashing the “bashers” or spending tons of time looking up evidence to prove them wrong. I have chosen my voice and actions to make a difference with others and to try and offer hope to anyone willing to try and do the same. Life should be better than what we are creating it to be. We can (and must) do better and be better for ourselves, our loved ones and for the good of others. **

“Send Coach John a message”I found a post from Vala Afshar (@ValaAfshar) where he shared a clip from the incredible Mr. Rogers.  See the clip HERE.  A gentle reminder for all: “We just don't get to be competent human beings without a lot of different investments from others. Think about those who have helped you become who you are today. What really matters is helping others win too.” —Fred Rogers  This got me thinking about so much that we all have connections to. The people in our lives - the ones that made a difference with me, I'm grateful for all of them. There are so many people out there that forget this fact. They are the ones that think they did a lot on their own and we all need to remember where we came from and the people that helped us and walked our pathway with us. It's time for us to keep working on ourselves so we can keep helping others win too! IT sure beats tearing others down, making fun of others and looking to do things to cause problems for others. This week I sit down with Evan Daly, who speaks with such love and honesty about losing his dad Iggy to an extremely aggressive cancer, Cholangiocarcinoma. Evan's dad died just one month to the day after his diagnosis, and Evan reflects on the courage and calm acceptance his dad showed from the very beginning and how that strength carried their family through the hardest weeks of their lives.Beyond the loss itself, this conversation gently opens into something many people experience after grief, loosing your way, feeling disconnected from your body, your routine, and yourself. Evan shares his perspective as an online coach, speaking about compassion, empathy, and meeting yourself where you are, especially after loss, when motivation and structure can feel impossible. We also talk about Evan's coaching platform app Glean and how movement, routine, and self-kindness can become supports rather than pressures during grief. For anyone looking for additional support you'll find my membership space After the Flowers here https://after-the-flowers.circle.so/checkout/after-the-flowers-membershipFor upcoming Grief Workshops - visit https://www.griefireland.com/For more information about the incredible work Evan is doing visit: https://www.gleanapp.com

“Send Coach John a message”I came across something from Coach AJ - Mental Fitness (@coachajkings) where he was responding to (@readswithravi) and it all connected with Coach John Wooden.  Coach AJ's thoughts were this -  “Successful people take ownership of their actions, attitude, and effort. John Wooden said, "Don't whine. Don't complain. Don't make excuses." "Get out there and whatever you're doing, do it to the best of your ability." You can't control everything - But you can control how you show up.”  All of these things got me so fired up when I read them. I know I need to be WAY better in showing up in every part of my life!! But then, I've shown up decently over the years in my life. My younger self … little 10 year old John Daly is proud of me in so many ways. Focusing on the things I'm grateful for - every single day - that helps to keep depression, emotional downturns, feeling bad about myself, getting worked up about my worries and the worries of the world - they cannot exist in a grateful heart! Inky's whole thought about gratitude “recalibrates” us and puts us in the right spot to be better, do better, listen better, learn better, etc. In today's world -  I need that for sure!!  How about you?? I've been trying to say things to people when I come across something that I see about them. Good service. A smile. An act of kindness that I witness them doing. A compliment to share with them. We are going to pay tribute to Colum Flynn, a man who made an immense contribution to sport in County Clare. Colum played a big part in Clare's hurling successes as trainer in the 1970s – during which time they won back-to-back league titles in ‘77 and ‘78 - and, of course, the 1990s, when the Banner County achieved long-awaited All-Ireland glory in 1995. Colum also tasted All-Ireland success with the Cyril Farrell-managed Galway sides which won two All-Irelands in the late-'80s, as well as doing immense work within boxing in Clare. Colum is survived by his wife Kay, son Padraig, daughters Ciara, Sorcha, Aoife, Katie & Eilish, and extended family and friends. His reposal will take place this Thursday evening in Daly's Mortuary Chapel, Francis St., Ennis from 5:30 o'clock to 8 o'clock. Funeral Mass will be held in Ennis Cathedral at 11 0'clock, with burial afterwards in Drumcliffe Cemetery. To remember Colum Flynn, Alan Morrissey was joined by Fr Harry Bohan, Former Clare hurling manager, long-time friend and Tommy Lyons of Ennis Boxing Club.

“Send Coach John a message”Reading my every day Kindle post from John Maxwell's “Daily Reader” and this one hit home for today. It's all about "Ratchet Up Your Passion!” He starts out with a powerful question - What makes it possible for people who might seem ordinary to achieve great things?  The answer is passion.  He also shares 4 truths about passion.  One, Passion is the first step to achievement.  Two, Passion increases your Will-power.  Three, Passion changes you, and Four, Passion Makes the Impossible Possible!  This is something I tried to remind my students about all through my teaching career. It's something I remind myself about and other adults too - as it's a life-long quest to keep every day we have, somehow connected to things that we are fired up about.  All of this comes from John Maxwell's book, “The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader.”  I am reminded to keep investing in myself and the things that light my soul on fire!  That's a powerful life if we can keep these things going! **

“Send Coach John a message”Mondays are great days! Early on in my life, even before I became a teacher, I tried to have a special / different connection to Mondays compared to others. Today's Daily Thought is something that I feel super connected to.  From Deep Psychology (@DeepPsycho_HQ) comes this life gem: “Don't be impressed by money, followers, degrees and titles. Be impressed by kindness, integrity, humility and generosity.”  In today's world sadly, so many people are following  the first part of this. Also, the lies, greed, lack of character, lack of responsibility, blaming others, etc., that go along with this mindset. I know I'm trying to take on more of the second part of this along with; encouragement, love, empathy, character, etc., and so many other positive traits. Sad to say, I have friends and family that are living on the first part - the crumbling part of things in life as they think everything is about winning at all costs and mixing it with the political sess-pool of today. I'm reminding myself that I love them more than I hate the person(s) and things going on with them in our country today. I also know that I need to live my life, build my life and connect more of these building blocks that are built on character, truth, etc., with people and not just flap my gums at things. One of so many reasons why I really enjoy psychology, learning and reading books …. And I know I need to connect with this even more!! **

“Send Coach John a message”Found a great post that I got some good reflections on. It came from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) where this was shared from James Clear: “Embrace the fact that life is continual and look for ways to enjoy the daily practice.”  What was meant by this was a bit more in depth that helped me really connect to it.  “Work is endless. Exercise is endless. Parenting is endless. Same with marriage, writing, investing, creating, and more. You get to choose the parts of your life, but many of the important things in life cannot be “finished.”  Do not approach and endless game with a finite mindset. The objective is not to be done, but to settle into a daily lifestyle you can sustain and that allows you to make daily progress in the areas that matter.  Embrace the fact that life is continual and look for ways to enjoy the daily practice.”  I love the thought of things in life not ever being finished - other than our last day. I challenge myself to keep learning new things every day I have.  You know, something just came to mind was Mitch Albom with his friend and producer, Lisa Goich - their recent “Tuesday People Podcast” (listen to it HERE) was all about changing our perspective of living each day as if it's our last and start living it as it can be our “first” of doing different things. Rather than focus on things we might lose or never have again, it's a unique mindset shift that I think connects with this post, where we keep looking to continue things and not have things that are finished. Cool stuff if you ask me. Very motivating to start changing my perspective. Hope it is for you too. **

“Send Coach John a message”I found another lesson from a former student of mine. Coach Ray Ostrowski (@CoachRayO3313) shared this gem with his introduction: “Why accept Acceptable when you're capable of Exceptional? Acceptable is ‘good enough' for some but never meets the minimum standard for Great. Take small steps daily that combat our natural instinct to be satisfied & tolerate ‘acceptable.”  I reposted this from him with my thoughts: “Great stuff @CoachRayO3313 … awesome reminder for life and for anyone open to paying attention.”  Today's episode came in my mobile studio because I wanted to get out to you as soon as I could.  Early this morning I had a dream and it got my day started in a direction of wanting to learn more, do more, and to keep getting things done.  It's all about “Acceptable vs. Exceptional” - “Why tolerate acceptable when you're capable of exceptional? This is something many wrestle with daily.  Greatness demands higher standards.  Acceptable is good enough for many - but not for the great.  Strive to develop the diligence, competitiveness, details, standards, routines, & expectations to become exceptional.  Good enough is the enemy of great.”  I hope this helps you see some things that you want to work on. Remember, there is not one way of being Exceptional. “Send Coach John a message”Found another simple, yet emotional and meaningful reminder for me from the Power of Positivity (@LIVEpositivity)  where this truth was posted:  “Every day is another chance to change your life.” Within every day there are many moments too. I've been doing more and more reflecting in the mornings with my coffee. First, I'm reminding myself each morning how much I love mornings. Getting my day started with some prayer time, reading some devotions, other daily readings to not only get me started but also to keep me grounded too. Secondly, it gets my day going in a great direction for the things I want to do and need to do. With me trying to focus a bit more on intentionally focusing on making the most of more moments, it's been eye-opening for me to keep working this way. Also remind ourselves that these “changes” don't have to be huge. They don't have to be posted about on social media. We don't have to share them with others. We just have to put action behind them. Please - remember this thought and remember it's the moments to connect with that matter which make up our days. **

“Send Coach John a message”I found so many powerful posts today and I wanted to share this one with you first. Coming at you a little bit late in the day today, but sometimes “life” gets in the way a bit. So, I'm in the library studio today and getting some stuff done.  This comes from Curious Minds (@CuriousMindsHub) where this one hit me right between the eyes and I hope you connect with it too!  “It's time to get more aggressive about the life you want.”   It is time. Not just because it's late January of a new year, but it's because it's TODAY!  Today is the only time I can do something about this because that is the moment I'm in. Truthfully, it would have been really easy to stay at home. The weather is cold and nasty, but I knew I wanted to get back to my “roots” of going someplace outside of the house, getting a coffee and having a quiet space to work in. My local library offers this with their study rooms to sign up for. So many podcasts, school work, video recordings, etc., have been done here. There is plenty I know I need to unlearn for sure. What I need to do is to make sure the things I relearn are good things. I know for sure that ALL OF US need to unlearn a lot of things (especially what is going on in our country, today of this recording 1-24-26) AND THEN, we need to relearn so many things that will be good for ALL OF US. The thing is, throughout ALL of history, humans have had trouble with things like how we treat each other. I think NOW is the time for us to learn and put into play these lessons. First he shared this clip from Mel Robbins (@MelRobbins) where she was interviewing Trent Shelton (@TrentShelton) - the reminder that Mark connected with this clip, is something similar to what I would say too:  “To anyone who needs to hear this -  If you feel like you've lost your way, please know that better days are coming, my friend. Don't give up.” Such a simple and heart-felt message for anyone and everyone that needs the reminder to just keep going!! The second connection also from Mark was a clip from Inky Johnson (@InkyJohnson) and Mark's summary:   “It's not what you do … it's who you are! It's how you operate… how you treat people! It's not what gets you there … it's what keeps you there!  Do what's right … not what's easy! It's how you life your life!”  I found it very interesting that these two came just about back to back in my feed this morning. Both messages are tied into lifting me up and encouraging me - which I'm finding I need every day! I hope these help you too!! **

“Send Coach John a message”I have always loved mornings.  Looking back as a little kid, I knew I was a morning person early on in my life. This post from The Mindfulness Meditation Institute (@TrainingMindful) helped me to remember one of many reasons why I connect with mornings.  “Every morning, we get a chance to be different.  A chance to change. A chance to be better. Your past is your past. Leave it there. Get on with the future part.” - Nicole Williams said this. It's a reminder for all of us that we can start out our day differently than what we've done in the past. It's a new opportunity to continue great things or to start over with something new and great!  I like this reminder from the standpoint of always looking to be better and do better.  I need this reminder for the simple fact that I can start my days out in a positive and awesome direction. I know you can too. **

“Send Coach John a message”Found a great reminder for me personally that I need to read more and the importance of taking the time to do it! From TeacherGoals (@teachergoals) “Reading counts. - Reading forces you to be quiet in a world that no longer makes a place for that.” That is a quote from John Green.  It seems that the world is getting noisier and more hectic as each day passes. As I typed that thought out, I also know that probably many of the previous generations probably thought the same thing. I take time to start my day by reading a little bit. However, that is not where it should end for me. I need to take more time throughout my days to slow down and read more. I have plenty of things to read that are good for me. That inspires me. That makes me want to be better and do better in my life. When I do, I find that I can handle the “loudness” of the world a bit better. Maybe this is something for you to get re-connected with too? I know a good friend of mine really takes the time to pause life here and there to get some reading done. It brings joy to her soul and it helps her be her best for the life that she wants to live. She wrote a very nice note to my wife recently and my wife shared it with me. This helps me to want to do the same! Thanks Heather for sharing that with my wife, who shared it with me. **

WestJet also made economy class seats non-reclinable, offering passengers the option to pay extra for adjustable seats. In a news statement, the company said it will reverse what it called the "densified seating" by removing the additional row of seats.WHO DO YOU BLAME?Samantha (Sam) Taylor was appointed WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Experience Officer March 2025. Sam's portfolio is accountable for critical touch points in the guest journey and includes leading all Marketing, Guest Experience and Contact Centres for WestJet and Sunwing Vacations. While he also personally holds a significant portion of the Subordinate Voting Shares (SVS)—roughly 11.3% as of late 2024—the primary mechanism of his control is the MVS class. All stupid U.S. dual class dictatorships who do not do this!!The "Sunset" Provision: In May 2023, Onex shareholders approved a plan to implement a "sunset" on these special voting rights. Under this agreement, Schwartz's multiple voting rights are scheduled to expire three years after the effective date of the amendment (roughly May 2026).Current Status: As we are currently in early 2026, Schwartz remains the controlling shareholder. Upon the "Event of Change" later this year, the Multiple Voting Shares will convert into Subordinate Voting Shares, and he will lose his absolute control, shifting the company toward a more traditional governance structure.Matt Damon says Netflix wants to make action movies differently to account for shorter attention spansHow the art of filmmaking is being subvertedThe "Say What You Do" Rule: Writers are frequently being told to eliminate subtext. In traditional filmmaking, if a character is sad, you show them staring at a cold cup of coffee. Now, streamers often request that the character explicitly say, "I'm just so sad right now," or have another character ask, "Why are you so sad?"The Reason: If you are looking at your phone during a silent, emotional shot, you miss the story. If the character says it out loud, you can follow the plot without looking at the screen.Heightened Audio Cues: If you've noticed that modern movies have very aggressive sound design—sudden loud bangs, dramatic musical stings, or high-pitched notification-like sounds—it's often intentional. The "Audio Hook": These sounds act like a "ping" to pull your eyes back from your phone to the TV. It's a literal alarm clock for your attention. The "First 10 Minutes" Mandate: In the past, a movie could have a "slow burn" opening (think 2001: A Space Odyssey). Today, Netflix and other streamers use data that shows exactly when a user hits the "Back" button. The Note: Writers are told that a "major event" (an explosion, a death, or a massive hook) must happen within the first 2 to 5 minutes. If the "inciting incident" happens at the 20-minute mark, the data shows they will lose 30% of the audience to TikTok.Centered Framing: Cinematographers are increasingly being told to keep the "important" action in the center of the frame. The Reason: This makes the content easier to view on a mobile device if the user decides to switch from the TV to their phone, or if they are watching a cropped "clip" of the movie on social media later.Increased "Recapping": Have you noticed characters summarizing what just happened more often? The "TikTok Brain" Fix: Because people are multitasking, they often lose the thread of the plot. Streamers now encourage dialogue like, "So, let me get this straight, we have to get the key from the vault before the guard returns in five minutes?" It's a recap for someone who tuned out for the last three minutes.WHO DO YOU BLAME?Netflix: Ted Sarandos & Greg Peters (Co-CEOs of Netflix), Reed Hastings, Jay HoagDrug CEOs (re: The Algorithm): Passive Viewing: Data shows that up to 94% of people use a phone while watching TV.TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew: TikTok is widely considered the pioneer of the "Short-Form Video" era. Its algorithm is specifically designed to provide "intermittent reinforcement" (like a slot machine), which studies suggest can reduce the ability to focus on long-term tasks.Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg: Zuckerberg pivoted Facebook and Instagram (Reels) to aggressively compete with TikTok. Critics argue this transition turned a platform for connection into one of "passive scrolling" that further erodes focus.YouTube CEO Neal Mohan: Under his leadership, YouTube Shorts was launched to capture the short-attention-span market. Even YouTube co-founder Steve Chen has recently warned that these short videos are "shrinking kids' attention spans."Smartphones: Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs MMStanford: The "Father of Persuasive Tech": B.J. FoggStanford's Persuasive Technology Lab, run by B.J. Fogg, taught many of the founders and early employees of Instagram and Facebook. The "Fogg Behavior Model" taught engineers how to use "triggers" and "rewards" to change human behavior through software. He provided the scientific framework that allowed tech companies to treat the human brain like hardware that could be "hacked" for maximum engagement.Trump calls NYSE Dallas expansion plans 'unbelievably bad' for New York: Trump says move poses 'big test' for newly inaugurated Mayor Zohran Mamdani. WHICH HYPOCRISY DO YOU BLAME?The Free Market BullshitTrump and Texas leaders have long championed the freedom of businesses to flee blue-state regulations. However, now that a prestigious icon like the NYSE is actually expanding to Dallas, Trump has pivoted to calling it "unbelievably bad" for New York. The Anti-Woke /Anti-ESG scaremongeringTexas frames itself as a "Sanctuary from Socialism," yet the Texas Stock Exchange (TXSE) is being used to bypass ESG transparency. While railing against woke mandates, these leaders are creating their own ideological silos—demanding a protected market where management isn't held accountable by shareholders for social or environmental impacts.Texas AG Ken Paxton described BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard as an "investment cartel" that was "illegally controlling national energy markets" and "squeezing more money out of hardworking Americans."Paxton sent a formal warning to Larry Fink and other CEOs, stating that their "radical environmental policies" and "race-based quotas" (DEI) would face severe enforcement actions if they prioritized "politics over consumers."Lead by example: Trump quits NYC and Musk's Dexit to Y'all StreetThroughout his 2024 campaign, Trump consistently compared New York unfavorably to states like Florida and Texas: as an example, he pointed to the lack of state income tax in Florida as a reason why "everyone is leaving New York." Elon Musk's Dexit from Delaware/California is sold as a strike for freedom, yet his empire is built on nearly $40 billion in government subsidies and contracts. He moved to Texas to escape over-regulation (re: his pay package and people being mad about nooses in his factories) while simultaneously heading the most over-regulatory body ever: Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).Leader name calling and scaremongeringTrump's pre-bromance attacks on New York's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani (communist lunatic" and a "Marxist"). Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson (UPenn, Harvard, Princeton): "un-American socialist impulse" and explicitly marketed Dallas as a "sanctuary from socialism" for businesses looking to Dexit New York. The Elite vs. Common Man NonsenseDespite bullshit Y'all Street populist framing, the Texas Stock Exchange is backed by the world's most powerful financial titans. There is no common man victory here; it is the CEO class moving the financial capital to a jurisdiction with fewer labor protections and less oversight. The Big Four Anchor InvestorsBlackRock: (managing ~$14 trillion), despite being the primary target of "anti-woke" and anti-ESG rhetoric from the same politicians who support the TXSE.Citadel Securities: Led by Ken Griffin, this firm executes roughly 1 in 4 of all stock trades in the U.S. Left Chicago for Miami.J.P. Morgan Chase: Jamie Dimon. Joined in 2025 during a $90 million funding round and holds an observer seat on the board.Charles Schwab: handles over 50% of U.S. retail stock orders.MATTWalmart International CEO Kath McLay to step down - WHO DO YOU BLAME?Half exiting CEO Doug McMillonMcLay was under McMillon her entire tenure at WalMart, raised to CEO of the international divisionClearly a protege - passed over for the new CEO?Incoming CEO John FurnerThe white guy who became CEO is such an interesting new story, but Furner started as a sales clerk and has been with the WALTONS a long time through Sam's Club as CEO, another Walton jointFurner/McMillon/Walton family named David Guggina CEO of Walmart US (passing McLay), Chris Nicholas replace McLay, Seth Dallaire was made chief growth officer… rounding out an all male promotion cycle of new execs - no women in major positionsMaybe McLay read the tea leaves - women got chief legal and chief of people, like everywhere else, but leave the big jobs to the swinging dicks. The compensation and management development committee, who according to the company charter, ir responsible to “periodically review and recommend to the full Board succession planning practices for the Company's CEO and other executive officers.”Carla Harris (chair) - black woman with “multicultural” in her job description at Morgan Stanley who apparently didn't apply “multiculturalism” to Walmart executive search?Marissa Mayer - yes, THAT Marissa Mayer, who is on the board of Starbucks with Brian Niccol and AT&T where Randall Stephenson was CEOBrian Niccol - CEO of Starbucks, with no conflict by having Marissa Mayer on the same boardRandall Stephenson - ex CEO of AT&T, with no conflict of interest by having Marissa Mayer on the board. Look, for example, at quantitative and systematic managers, who often operate models that merely seek exposures to identified sources of alpha.”Index investors: “But it may be appropriate for these categories of investment advisers (and the Boards that exercise oversight over this function) to consider whether taking positions on fundamental corporate matters, or on precatory proposals, is consistent with their investment mandates.”Hedging himself: “So, there is no stock answer to the “Must I vote?” question... Instead, it is important that advisers and clients have a fair amount of latitude to decide what works in their individual cases.”Threatening using proxy advisors: “And if we are raising issues for consideration, I will also mention, because the President did, that there is real concern out there that habitual adherence to a proxy consultant's recommendations could pull an adviser into a Section 13(d) group.”Investors, because no matter what Brian Daly suggests, investors almost never vote against management and neither do proxy advisors, so what the fuck are we talking about?Cost, because Daly points out, “And in assessing proposed votes, investment advisers might utilize the Fiduciary Interpretation's concept of a “reasonable inquiry into the client's objectives.” If an investment adviser routinely follows a proxy advisor's stock recommendations without a tailored engagement or independent analysis, is this “reasonable inquiry?” Maybe, but it is certainly worth thinking about. And, to go back to the first question, if the voting process is so burdensome that it requires extensive external resources, why is the adviser voting at all?”John Chevedden, along with Jim McRitchie, without whom we have maybe half the shareholder rights as SP500 companies, and who the no-action data is now showing is disproportionately getting responses for exclusion from the SEC (as if to double down on the idea that we can ignore those commie socialists entirely, but we want to tell you explicitly you're totally legally cool and there's no threat if you exclude Chevedden). Chevedden might be the reason investors were voting at all - maybe now they won't have to?

“Send Coach John a message”A good morning of reflections and connecting. I found this one of many that I needed to let percolate a bit in my mind and heart. It comes from Seek Wiser (@SeekWiser_) and it reminds us that “Your greatest weapon is your mind. Train it to see opportunities, not obstacles.” So many things going on around us and throughout the world. I'm working hard to not get distracted by trying to keep up with all of it. I'm trying to focus in on being in the moment a bit more and seeing opportunities and not victim thinking of doubt, worry and not believing in myself.  If I can use this and connect with this thought, more moments that I have throughout each day - wow… there's going to be some good things coming from those choices.  Hope this works for you too my friends. **

“Send Coach John a message”Powerful and emotional continuation with honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., today - I found this from The Nobel Prize (@NobelPrize) where this quote was shared: "I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war." In this episode I shared a snippet of his Nobel Peace Prize speech, where he accepted the award on behalf of the American civil rights movement. Check out this link  bit.ly/3bJCQuc #MLKDay that has a bit more info about this time in our history.  Again, this is a reminder for me first of all, and anyone else that wants to listen - that we must be better! In all parts of living our lives. We are more alike than we are different. I know I need to keep getting better in all areas of my life. I know I want to have a life worth remembering that stood for doing good, helping others rather than hurting them & causing troubles. We humans are still fighting a battle of letting evil win over goodness. We have not learned the lesson yet and we have always struggled with it - just look throughout history. We have history to learn from. To improve. To fix the wrongs that we humans have created. All of us have a lot to work on, but it's worth it for sure. **

“Send Coach John a message”I was reading a passage from Brian Johnson's book “Arete” and it's all about having “Rebound Days”. It's all about bouncing back from tough days. Great quote from George Leonard, where he reminds us to have a “willingness to take one step back for every two forward, sometimes vice-versa.”  It's a key to simply understand that this happens to everyone and at times, it's taking 4 or 5 steps backwards then going sideways and then eventually going in a forward direction. I was connecting with Jon Gordon too (@JonGordon11) and he had a leadership training session the past two days - free too! Those things are out there my friends. We need to keep investing in ourselves so that when we do get knocked backwards and down in life (which we will), we will have the sense, confidence and the tools to get back up and get going again. Great stuff is out there. Find it.
