Formal cause = the form of matter--its essence--God is the only being with complete actuality and essence, and is the only pure formal cause and needs no potentiality 3. Efficient cause = something that has an effect 4. Final cause = goal or purpose toward which a thing is oriented--the ultimate goal of humanity is to behold the Divine Essence The 5 Ways 1. Evidence of Motion 2. Effects must have causes; there must be a beginning cause. 3. Matter cannot create itself; there must be a way to account for the first matter. 4. Behavior of things implies a Grand Designer.  --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

(Cur Deus Homo) - https://sourcebooks.fordham.edu/basis/anselm-curdeus.asp Anselm's ontological argument for the existence of God: By definition, God is the greatest possible being that can be imagined. God exists as an idea in the mind. A being that exists as an idea in the mind AND in reality is greater than a being that exists only as an idea in the mind. Thus, if God exists only as an idea in the mind, then we can imagine something that is greater than God. But we cannot imagine something that is greater than God (for it is a contradiction to imagine a being greater than the greatest possible being that can be imagined.) Therefore, God exists. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

This podcast will be a look at the lives and writings of individual Christians throughout history. Several overarching questions guide the material presented in each episode. This podcast is NOT an apologetic, but it is a fresh and honest look at old ideas. Moreover, it is a call to imitate those who have gone before, whether you are a Christian or not.
