Amy Schumer is back on our radar with her new movie trailer! We're trying to reserve judgement until we see the actual film, but I Feel Pretty seems pretty problematic. A "shock photography" art piece by Eric Ravelo *** from about 2013 has been making the rounds again. The piece is meant to bring to harsh light some of the worst ways in which children are victimized including gun violence in American schools, pedophilia, sex trafficking, war and... obesity? One of the images, clearly commenting on the "obesity epidemic", feels extremely out of place in this piece. *** the linked images are pretty disturbing so please click with caution! OK, on to some more positive stuff! Janelle Monae continues to kill the game with her newest work. She's released two songs (Make Me Feel and Django Jane) from yet to have a release date next album, Dirty Computer. I mean, they're just great. Our girl Keala Settle KILLED on the Oscars. Her song didn't win (but SHOULD have!) but she totally brought the house down with her performance of This is Me. We can't wait to see what she does next! NEDA is doing great things to support individuals and families affected by eating disorders including spotlighting their campaign with National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. This years theme was "Let's Get Real" and their goal was "to expand the conversation and highlight stories we don't often hear." Head on over to them for help and support and to get involved with great organization.
Liza and Jen met in college (longer ago than either one of them would care to admit thank you very much...) doing theatre. Now Jen is a plus model (amongst other things) and is totally killing the game. I mean... Photo by Nicole LeBris, Insta: @nicolelebriscreative GORGEOUS, right?? We knew we had to have her on the Poscast and get the inside scoop on fashion and modeling. We talk about everything from her favorite places to get clothing to what makes a good photographer, to how who you surround yourself with makes a huge difference in how you feel about yourself (#positivevibesonlyplease!)Jen is also a real estate agent, and her newest project is a vlog centering around Hoboken and Hudson County happenings! Make sure you follow Jen on instagram @thejennifermeyers and keep and eye out for the launch of Hello Hoboken!
In this episode we talk about how Megyn Kelly wants to fat shame for profit, Trump's physical results, and the Greatest Showman. **Trigger Warning** We also chat about Aziz Ansari and the babe.net article.
Hello hello hello! We're back with a banked episode from July where we sat down and chatted with the amazing Jen Ponton! Jen's performance story isn't unfamiliar (and not too dissimilar from our own stories) - she started in theatre and ran into a bit of wall. Unfortunately the theatre world hasn't seemed to have caught up when it comes to telling the stories of fat people. But when she made a bit of a career switch she found the world of film and television to be more forward thinking. She's got several credits under her belt including the lead in an indie film that came out this past fall called Love on the Run. She's rocking the comedy world and one of the awesome ladies paving the way for more acceptance and richer stories for fat people to tell. It was so easy to talk with Jen about our experiences auditioning for theatre. For those of you who aren't actors, Nicole Byer showcases one of the many... quirks... that come up when pursuing a job. It's funny, cause it's true. Please check out Jen on twitter (she promises less yelling nowadays) and instagram (lots of cute pics of her pupper!) And if you're in the biz and need some marketing support or direction, make sure you hit her up at gobeyondthepostcard.com
