Today we are joined by fan favorite Ondine Achampong, a World and European medalist for Great Britain who was a favorite to make the Paris Olympic team before an ACL injury took her out of contention just three months before the Games. Ondine shocked the gymnastics world last season when she worked her way into Cal's beam lineup around 10 months after tearing her ACL—an injury that takes most gymnasts at least a year to recover from. As a result, her elite season has sadly come to an end, and her NCAA season is now uncertain, depending on how her recovery progresses. You already know — we're huge Michigan fans, so we are especially excited about today's guest. Joining us is the brand new head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Maile'ana Kanewa-Hermelyn.Maile has been a key part of the Michigan coaching staff for the past seven seasons — six as an assistant coach and one as a volunteer assistant. Before that, she was a gymnast at the University of Oklahoma, where she was an All-American on vault and floor, a two-time Big 12 vault champion, the NCAA runner-up on floor in 2014, and a member of two national championship-winning teams — including Oklahoma's very first NCAA title.After her competitive career, she transitioned into coaching, helping guide the Sooners to their third NCAA championship as a student assistant.My favorite fun fact about Maile (that I will say at every opportunity that I get) is that, to our knowledge, she is the only person to win an NCAA title as an athlete and a coach. She helped Oklahoma win its first title when she was an athlete in 2014 and then of course she helped Michigan win its first title as a coach in 2021. Now, she steps into the head coaching role following the legendary Bev Plocki, who led the program for 36 seasons. On a project with enough cross-apps dependencies, it can be tricky to run.” “This command aims at solving this problem, by recreating all the migration files in the whole project, from scratch, and mark them as applied by using the replaces attribute.” Also of note The package was created with Copier Michael brought up Copier in 2021 in episode 219 It has a nice comparison table with CookieCutter and Yoeman One difference from CookieCutter is yml vs json. We're so excited to be joined by London Phillips, a former elite gymnast from the early to mid-2000s, best known for being the first gymnast to compete a double layout half out on floor — the skill now known as the Biles I in the Code of Points. This will be our final episode in the Recruit Reflection series, and we're excited to be joined by Giselle Guenther, a level 10 gymnast from Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy who is actively going through the recruiting process. Giselle was one of the athletes in the class of 2027 who stood out to us because she improved so much in just one year. It's pretty remarkable when you scroll through her Instagram and see the difference from one year ago to now — it's fair to say she had quite the glow-up!Last year, Giselle was training at a gym in Indiana, competing level 9, and didn't have the cleanest gymnastics. So, she packed her bags and moved to Ohio, hoping to take her gymnastics to the next level and get recruited. This year, at Level 10 Nationals, she finished 4th on vault with a beautifully stuck Yurchenko 1.5, 10th on floor, and 7th all-around — a performance that definitely caught the attention of some of the top programs in the country. This week, we are so excited to be joined by Houry Gebeshian from Full Out to talk all things college recruiting. During her time as a gymnast, Houry competed in college gymnastics at Iowa, where she was a Big Ten Champion on beam in 2010 and an NCAA individual all-around qualifier in 2011. In 2016, she became the first female gymnast to represent Armenia at the Olympic Games, and she also secured her place in the Code of Points with her own skill on the uneven bars.In 2018, she co-founded Full Out Collegiate Recruiting to help gymnasts navigate the college recruiting process, and she has since helped many of them find their perfect fit. This week we are joined by Addi Doan, an incoming freshman at Texas Woman's University. Addi reached out wanting to share her recruiting experience with our listeners because she overcame significant adversity to get where she is today. She wants the future generation to know that you don't need a long Level 10 or elite resume to receive interest from college coaches.Prior to June 15, Addi suffered an ankle injury that limited her during her Level 9 season in 2022. Then she sustained a vestibular concussion and experienced severe complications, which kept her out of the gym for six months. As a result, she only competed in one Level 10 meet before her recruiting period began on June 15, 2023. Despite not having a lengthy résumé of accolades and experience, Addi still attracted interest from several Division I schools—not only because they saw her potential, but because they recognized her determination as she worked to come back from the concussion. In December 2023, about a year after the concussion, Addi committed to a Division I school on a scholarship. However, that scholarship was later pulled due to a shoulder injury. Erin Lang is the mother of Olivia Lang, an incoming freshman at the University of Maryland. Olivia was a Level 10 gymnast at CGA and is a four-time national qualifier. We're continuing our Recruit Reflection series with incoming North Carolina freshman Jillian Fisher. Fisher is a three-time Level 10 national qualifier from Brandy Johnson's. In her own words, she was a little “late to the party” — she didn't take her official visits until the summer before her senior year of high school. That summer, she visited Iowa State, Arizona State and NC State, ultimately committing to Arizona State.About two months later, Fisher switched her commitment to Iowa State, where she signed in November 2024. A few months ago, she was released from her national letter of intent with Iowa State and signed with North Carolina — which had actually been her top choice from the beginning.Fisher's recruiting story is unique in that she changed her mind a few times, but ultimately ended up where she felt she was meant to be. We're continuing our Recruit Reflection series with incoming Michigan State freshman Izzy Biro. Biro was a Level 10 gymnast for four years and trained at Queen City Gymnastics. She recently wrapped up her Level 10 career with a sixth-place finish on bars at the 2025 Developmental Program National Championships. She ends her club career as a four-time Level 10 national qualifier and a 2022 Nastia Liukin Cup qualifier. Biro took visits to Kentucky, Denver and Michigan State but suffered an injury during her junior year of high school, delaying her college decision until the start of her senior year. She ultimately chose to become a Spartan and will join the team this season. We're back with another Recruit Reflection, and we're especially excited about this one because it's the first time we're featuring someone who went through the recruiting process but ultimately decided to step away from gymnastics to focus on academics. This week, we're joined by Leah Fontaine, a member of the Class of 2025 from Capital Gymnastics. Fontaine was a Level 10 gymnast for six years and spent time on the elite track during her younger years. She had dreamed of competing in college gymnastics for as long as she could remember and took six official visits when the recruiting period began. However, around that time, she began dealing with an ankle injury and faced the challenge of recovering while maintaining the interest of college coaches. After much reflection, she made the difficult decision to walk away from the sport to focus on her future. Georgetown University was one of the schools Fontaine had been interested in, although it doesn't have a gymnastics program. She was only able to consider it seriously after stepping away from gymnastics. Since leaving club gymnastics, she has embraced new opportunities — including starting a nonprofit organization and participating in high school gymnastics during her senior year. We're continuing Season 3 of our Recruit Reflection series with Anika Most, a rising sophomore and member of Kent State's 2025 regular season MAC championship team. Anika always dreamed of becoming a Division I gymnast, but her recruiting journey wasn't easy. She faced a lot of rejection early on because she was a bit behind skill-wise at the time. Still, she never gave up. She kept working hard in the gym, held down two jobs to pay for training, and stayed persistent with coaches — eventually finding her home at Kent State. Anika is living proof that hard work and determination really do pay off. One of the top athletes in the class of 2023, Parker suffered an injury during her freshman season that led her to reevaluate her path. Your effort to locate me proves you've searched thoroughly. If your Hawaii vacation doesn't meet your exact needs it becomes your only opportunity to experience it. The majority of visitors here are either starting their journey or experiencing their first trip. After mastering the process of traveling to Hawaii you can manage the trip by yourself. I strongly recommend that you proceed with this approach. Knowing this destination turns repeat visits into an enjoyable experience. If you can afford it. Because obviously, budget is a concern. A common way people choose Hawaii Vacation Packages is by spotting a great airfare deal. They purchase their air tickets without knowing that finding their preferred lodging will be very difficult. And how expensive it is. Travelers find themselves paying substantially more than they initially anticipated. So don't do that. Hacker Tip: This travel advice originates from my previous recommendations. Always evaluate your entire travel plan before finalizing your airfare booking. Huh? No all Inclusive's? Customization of your vacation experience is something I'm emphasizing directly to you because it truly holds significant importance. Over the years, I've come to realize that while a one-size-fits-all solution works well for some travelers, it simply doesn't resonate with everyone. That's why I focus on tailoring each trip to the individual. At the same time, our website offers 'all-inclusive' Hawaii vacation packages—mainly because many people specifically request them. However, even those packages can be customized to better fit your personal travel style and needs I typically manage to persuade people away from them because they don't really fit their needs. But repeatedly the subs would lose navigation abilities, and investigations turned up strange chunks removed from the electric cables, the oil lines, the sound probes, and the sonar dome itself—anywhere made of rubber that was soft enough for what looked like a hole saw to damage. The Navy thought they were dealing with a state-of-the-art weapon. The United States and the former Soviet Union were bitter enemies, so the Navy thought the USSR had invented a technologically sophisticated underwater stealth drone of some kind that could damage the subs and leave no trace—nothing but circular chunks removed from the sonar dome and its components. Thirty submarines were damaged before the Navy figured out the cause. It wasn't a super-secret weapon at all. It was just a little fish called the cookie-cutter shark. The cookie cutter shark doesn't look very scary. It only grows 22 inches long at most, or 56 cm, and is brown in color. It has lots of very sharp evenly spaced teeth on its lower jaw, but compared to a great white shark, it's nothing to worry about. But somehow it was able to disable 30 of the world's most advanced submarines at the time. That's because of how the cookie cutter shark eats, which is also how it gets its name. It picks a target fish or some other animal, such as a whale or a seal, or possibly the sonar dome of an Ohio-class submarine, and sneaks up to it. It's just a little fish and its coloration helps it blend in with its surroundings, so most animals barely notice it. It has lips that act like a suction cup, so quick as a wink it sticks itself to the animal, bites down, and spins around. In moments it's cut a circular chunk out of the animal's side like a horrible cookie, which it swallows, and by the time the animal even realizes it's hurt, the cookie cutter shark is long gone. The shark used to be called the cigar shark because of its shape. It wasn't until 1971 that experts realized how the cookie cutter shark eats. Until then the circular wounds on fish and whales and other animals were thought to be from lamprey bites or from some kind of parasite. The cookie cutter shark does have teeth in its upper jaw but they're much smaller than the lower teeth. When it sheds its lower teeth to replace them, instead of shedding just one tooth, it sheds them all at once. Like most sharks, it swallows its old teeth so it can reuse the calcium to grow new teeth. The shark also has photophores on the underside of its body that glow greenish, which is a common way that some fish escape predators from below. A big fish looking up toward the surface of the water high above it sees a lot of light shining down from the sun, so a fish with a glowing underside just blends in. But in the case of the cookie cutter shark, it has a strip of skin on its underside without photophores, and from below that strip shows up. It's a sort of collar that's actually darker brown than the rest of the fish. It looks, in fact, like a tiny fish silhouetted against the surface. The would-be predator fish approaches, expecting an easy meal. Instead, the cookie cutter shark darts around and takes a big bite out of the fish, then takes off. It's a remarkably fast swimmer, but most of the time it hangs almost motionless in the water waiting for another animal to approach.
