The Fuel Your Fire Podcast with Alicia Wood

This podcast is about new beginnings.Because we start school in September, we've been conditioned that September is a fresh start. Every September we would get our fresh binders, notebooks and pens and head off to school. Ready to kick things off in a new way. And like New Years Resolutions, we often had intentions of what the new school year might look like. But did we follow through on those things? Did we make the shifts we thought we would make? And what do you actually want now??This is your fresh start!Where to find Alicia:Instagram: @alicia.rose.wood Tik Tok: @alicia.rose.wood Join Hina's Success Circle: CLICK HEREBook a Complimentary Clarity Call: CLICK HERE  Audio Editing & Music provided by:Jordan Wood: www.instagram.com/jordan.m.wood

We just can't seem to agree on the best way to go about that. But do we really think politics, education, law, economics, or technology is going to deliver? It depends largely on what we are trying to accomplish. All these aspects of society should serve human flourishing, but our unbridled quest for more, bigger, faster, and better, seems to have blinded us to how change either ennobles or debases people. Are you flourishing? Is your neighbor flourishing? Is our nation flourishing? Is the human family flourishing? The next big leap for humanity will come from rediscovering what it means to be authentically human. It is the very best of our humanity that the world desperately needs now – and generosity brings out the best in people. The generosity habit is simple: Give something away every day. It doesn't need to be money or material things. In fact, the philosophy behind the generosity habit rests on this singular truth: You don't need money or material possessions to live a life of staggering generosity. Generosity is creative. There are an infinite number of ways to be generous without money or things. Express your appreciation. Catch someone doing something right. Teach someone the thing you know most about in this world. Spread a positive message. Compliment a stranger. Be a generous lover. Encourage someone just starting out. Imagine if everyone adopted the generosity habit. What's more likely to change the world? 252 - my best new years resolution

Every Coach Needs A Coach

In 2016 my new year's resolution was to make 50 three pointers a week. At that point I was studying for my board exams to become a physical therapist, working full-time as an intern. And knowing that my health and mental health were important, but not necessarily taking the time to take care of those things. I love basketball, and a New Year's resolution forced me to do something that I loved, that was physical activity. It was the best New Year's resolution I've ever had, and the longest one I've ever stuck with. I would go to the YMCA, And my rule was that I couldn't hit more than 25 in a day. So that forced me to go at least two days a week. I like to play a game when I shoot. I pick 5-7 spots on the floor, and make my way around the world. If I make the shot, my rebound is allowed to hit the ground, but if I miss it, I have to get the rebound before it hits the ground, and make a layup. If I made the layup, I could re-take the shot. If I missed the layup, I had to start back from the beginning. I just like when I played, I had a good shooting days, and not so good shooting days. On the days that were not so good, I learned how important it was to make my layups. Keep in mind I was studying for my national physical therapy exam board. I had a revelation one day that there were questions as I was practicing for the exam that were three point questions. They were hard, they took a lot of time, and they made me think and challenged the range of my knowledge and understanding. And those practice questions there were also the ‘gimmes' ,The questions that took very little thought, very little time, and we're very surface level of my knowledge. Those were the layups. The more challenging ones were the three-pointe And in about mid January, I started to study in a way that made sure I hit my lips. Just like in basketball, I was bound to hit a few three-pointers, but if I hit my labs, I was gonna be just fine. A challenge to use a coach is what are your labs? What are the easy things that you should be doing day in and day out to get right? Of course, there will be points in your season or something challenging comes up, that's your three-pointer. Maybe you'll make it, and maybe a mess, but if you keep hitting your lips, you're bound to be successful.

"I need more balance in my life!" It's something we hear from our tech clients all the time. Especially over the past 2+ years, professionals are constantly looking for ways to feel more in-control of their experience. The issue? Most folks go BIG when creating strategies to create more WLB. Stuff like "exercising more" or "no phone after 7pm" or "Email doesn't exist on the weekend!" And, with most things, it's good for a couple weeks and then ... well, let's just say our behavior mirrors New Years Resolutions... But what if there was a better, easier way to tackle this balance issue? Engaged Pursuit founder Tom Perry has found one (easy) way to try to improve balance - and that's to incorporate a little more fun into his daily experience. In this latest episode, Tom talks about the 6 things that he does throughout his (typical) day to bring a little more pep-in-his-step and also feel a better sense of balance (control!!) in his professional (and personal) life. A teen mom and her newborn son, Colin Ireland, didn't have the easiest life. They moved around from home to home, homeless shelters, they were financially struggling, and Colin attended many different schools where he was constantly harassed. All throughout his childhood, pedophiles seemed to be everywhere. Colin grew to be angry, unsure how to handle his strong emotions, and mental anguish about being preyed on by these men at every turn. When he got older, instead of attempting to work on those issues, he made a New Years Resolution to become a serial killer in 1993.Promo: The Murder in My FamilyThank you to today's sponsor, Athletic Greens! Welcome to the New Year! Got resolutions? Following through with them? Does it feel sustainable? With the celebration to end the year out, the guys talk about the common practice of setting resolutions this time of year. In this episode they go back to the core of the resolution, the intention of it to begin with. They talk about questioning where the need is coming from to be fulfilled, to goal setting, to breaking that goal down to actionable steps, and then the accountability aspect of following through on the steps set down. They talk about the inner selves that show up in this process, and how they navigate through each of the mental obstacles that come with that. How does self talk affect these goals? Imagine how we can benefit from re-parenting ourselves to actually want to get after our goals. Re-integrating the humanness aspect of navigating life in this allows us to ground into compassion to see ourselves succeed with much more sustainability. We are all creating stories as we traverse this windy road of our lives, let it be a silly, fun, free one that we enjoy in the present as well. Why is it everyone we love has once played a vampire? Hmmmm....

What is an accountability partner? Why do you need one? How do you find one? Check out this week's episode where we talk about the qualities that are essential in an accountability partner and how accountability partnerships can be the very thing you need to keep those New Years Resolutions and to achieve your bold, radical, audacious goals. Accountability is a skill which can be developed, but it is important to put the right systems in place. Too often as women, we deprioritize or subordinate our needs and our goals to others and an accountability partner can help. Accountability partnership is about cultivating a tribe of trusted warriors who believe in you, who have your back, who challenge you, and who push you to achieve your goals. An accountability partner will have your best interests at heart and will give it to you straight when you start to question or doubt what you are capable of. This episode is all about creating systems and adding to the tools you need to achieve your goals and to do so with consistency and commitment.   Resources/Reference: Advancing Women Podcast Website: https://advancingwomenpodcast.com/ AWP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/advancingwomenpodcast/ AWP Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/advancingwomenpodcast/   My Warrior Coaches: Denette Suddeth: https://suddethinc.com/ Lisa Gillette: https://bigsky.coach/womens-executive-coaching/ https://medium.com/@MaryLouWrites/accountability-partners-what-are-they-and-how-do-i-get-some-c5ebd1a828ef

In this episode, I discuss the reasons why so many people including myself  don't follow through with their New Years Resolutions. Much of the struggle to keep them lies in not being specific with your goals and for focusing too much on the end result.  An example that I give is "I want to eat better," but what does "Better" mean?  Throughout this talk, I discuss focusing more on what feeling you want to get from the goal you have, because everything that we want in life is traced back to a feeling. From this point, you can reverse engineer and begin to build a framework of the type of system that can create that feeling and allow your goal to be accomplished. Obviously there will be times where your systems will be tested, and you might want to sacrifice the habits you have built because of some short term inconvenience. But, as this episode continues, you will learn how to anticipate those roadblocks. Finally, being able to simplify the amount of resolutions that you have is really important so that you don't overcomplicate your life with so many new habits that you have to implement.  I give  advice on making this a more simplified plan so that long term you can be more successful. If you struggle with keeping your new years resolutions, definitely tune in, you're not alone!

The Omicron variant is spreading faster and causing more breakthrough cases. D.C. is re-instated mask and vaccination mandates. Tonight, we're talking all things Covid with two doctors to give you the information you need to stay safe and healthy. The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department is facing more discrimination lawsuits. This is the third in the last four months where two Black women allege retaliation for speaking out against racism and misconduct by White officers. There are here with their attorney.
