https://www.axios.com/2025/02/20/trump-maga-month-transforms-america President Trump's first month in office has exceeded the wildest dreams of his most loyal supporters, and the darkest nightmares of his fiercest detractors. Why it matters: Both groups can agree: The America that Joe Biden left behind on Jan. 20 is no longer recognizable, erased in four frenetic weeks by an empowered, implacable and historically popular MAGA presidency. Like Trump 1.0, the firehose of news and norm-busting behavior is — and will continue to be — the defining feature of this administration. Unlike Trump 1.0, the chaos is calculated — and explicitly designed to institutionalize MAGA, paralyze the president's enemies and permanently break the Washington establishment. Zoom in: Above all else, Trump's first month has been dominated by his war on the federal bureaucracy — and his various efforts to prod, probe and blow through the limits of presidential power. The White House's early attempt to freeze federal funding has set the stage for a massive legal fight over Congress's "power of the purse," which is laid out in Article 1 of the Constitution. Elon Musk and his DOGE allies are slashing and burning their way through government agencies — cheered on by the MAGA faithful as they fire thousands of federal workers, sometimes with reckless abandon. The rapid dismantling of USAID and the government-wide assault on DEI have sent clear signals that any programs misaligned with Trump's MAGA will be on the chopping block. The Department of Education could be next. At the Justice Department — which haunted both Trump's first term and his next four years as a private citizen — the purging of career prosecutors and FBI agents has punctured any veneer of independence from the White House. Between the lines: Trump and Musk's shock treatment of the U.S. government has overshadowed the two main issues that dominated the 2024 campaign: immigration and inflation. Billionaires' wealth grew three times faster in 2024 than the year before, while the number of the world's poor has barely changed over the last quarter-century, a top anti-poverty group reported in January. Oxfam International, in its latest assessment of global inequality timed for an annual gathering of elites in Switzerland, also predicts at least five trillionaires will crop up over the next decade—a year after forecasting that one would appear over that span. The sharp-edged report came as the World Economic Forum in January hosted some 3,000 people including business executives, government and civic group leaders, academics, and others at its annual meeting in Davos. “It's not about one specific individual. It's the economic system that we have created where the billionaires are now pretty much being able to shape economic policies, social policies, which eventually gives them more and more profit,” said Amitabh Behar, executive director of Oxfam International. Oxfam said billionaire wealth grew by $2 trillion last year, or roughly $5.7 billion a day, three times faster than in 2023. The number of billionaires rose by 204 to 2,769, and the 10 richest men saw their wealth rise nearly $100 million a day on average, it said. Citing World Bank data, the group pointed to lingering poverty, saying the number of people living on less than $6.85 per day has “barely changed” since 1990. Oxfam used Forbes' Real-Time Billionaire List as of end-November for data on the ultra-rich. Despite the growing gap between the über-rich and the poor, the annual Davos confab that formally began on January 20 appeared set to focus this year as much as ever on making money and doing deals, with strongman leaders on the rise in some Western countries and progressive causes like diversity and climate change waning in the business world. The continued rise of artificial intelligence as a tool for businesses to reap greater efficiencies was a central theme in Davos again this year, despite worries in many sectors that it could upend many white-collar jobs and displace workers in an array of industries. In a revealing discussion on political strategy, Matt Lewis interviews Joe Jacobson, the founder of Progress Action Fund, a Democratic Super PAC that champions the provocative motto, "When Republicans go low, we go lower." Jacobson advocates for Democrats adopting a more aggressive, relatable communication style, akin to Donald Trump's, to resonate with everyday Americans. Key insights from the podcast include Jacobson's critique of the Democratic Party's past reliance on civility and moral high ground, which he argues has been less effective in the current political climate. He emphasizes the need for Democrats to "show" rather than "tell" through impactful advertising that directly illustrates policy impacts on personal lives, like privacy in reproductive rights. The conversation delves into the importance of pop culture and media presence, suggesting Democrats should leverage platforms like podcasts and UFC events to reach demographics outside the typical liberal media bubble. Jacobson also discusses the upcoming DNC chair race, highlighting candidates like Ken Martin and Ben Wikler, and the need for a chair who can galvanize the party with fresh, bold messaging strategies.Read Jacobson's latest column for The Hill, The new DNC chair needs to act more like Donald Trump," here: https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/5103438-democrats-average-american-disconnect/ Support "Matt Lewis & The News" at Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mattlewis Follow Matt Lewis & Cut Through the Noise: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MattLewisDC Twitter: https://twitter.com/mattklewis Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mattklewis/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVhSMpjOzydlnxm5TDcYn0A – Who is Matt Lewis? – Matt K. In episode 266 of Arteetude, Detlef Schlich and AI co-host Sophia explore the psychological and historical parallels between chain letters, meme coins like $Trump and $Melania, and the evolution of human behaviour. They examine how these systems exploit our need for belonging, trust, and hope, and how figures like Trump and Melania have weaponized these patterns to create hype-driven chaos. This episode invites listeners to rethink the patterns they perpetuate and question what drives our attraction to such systems.
Israel's deep state is right now being exposed like never before, right at the top, the Supreme Court. THEME – Why People Like Trump So Much; Trump Begins; Biden Pardons; Hostage Deal Follow-Up; Musk by Barak Lurie
Donald Trump has wasted no time in his first days as president of the United States in signing executive orders to enforce mass deportations, gender laws and American expansionism. And within this new Republican omnicause, support for Israel has become a mainstay. In the inauguration, Rabbi Ari Berman delivered a presidential blessing that took a swipe at college campuses and advocated for releasing the remaining Israeli hostages. In Trump's first week, he reversed sanctions on Israeli settlers in the West Bank and is getting credit for the ceasefire deal that was struck before he took office. But then he also pardoned the Jan. 6 rioters—including blatant antisemites—and there's the whole Elon Musk maybe-Nazi-salute thing. To break down the first week of Trump's second presidency, we're joined by Gil Troy, an American presidential historian, former CJN columnist and author of the new book, To Resist the Academic Intifada: Letters to My Students on Defending the Zionist Dream. After Trump talk, they turn to the future of political movements in Israel and the shifting identity of the left in a post-ceasefire world. AP Washington correspondent Sagar Meghani reports President Biden is doing some second-guessing as he highlights his administration's economic achievements.
Looks like Trump will get away with all the crimes. Driving a nail into the coffin of our democracy, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith gave up on justice and dismissed charges against Don-the-Con. Trumpkin Boris Epshteyn might have sought financial gain from his influence on President Poopy Pants. A third woman from Texas died because of a barbaric GOP abortion ban. The ICC issued a warrant for Netanyahu for war crimes. The racist white Karen who shot her neighbor through her front door got 25 years in prison. A youth pastor from Duluth Minnesota was sentenced to 13 years for sexual abuse charges and a West Virginia pastor was arrested for child abuse. Boebert E. Lee has been working Cameo. The New York Times did a critical piece on RFK a little too late to matter.
Look deeply into the eyes of many of the team surrounding Donald Trump and you might find the same hollow and exhausted looks ubiquitous on the faces of talent managers, agents and executives. You see, that's because the past and future president is a lot like an insane director or temperamental movie star. And it's why this industry is the one best equipped to advise that one. At a heated board meeting in Dolton, Illinois, Mayor Tiffany Henyard's pick for police chief, Ronnie Burge Sr., was rejected by trustees, continuing a contentious battle over local leadership. Despite the rejection, Burge can serve in a temporary capacity for up to 30 days. Trustees voiced concerns over depleted village funds, revealing that basic supplies, like printer paper, are unaffordable, and voted to return luxury SUVs leased for Henyard's use, costing over $374,000. Henyard, however, promised to veto this decision. Adding to the tension, a former Henyard aide publicly accused Trustee Andrew Holmes of misconduct during a taxpayer-funded Las Vegas trip, although no charges were filed. Undeterred, Henyard declared she would win reelection “in a landslide,” comparing herself to former President Trump. The meeting concluded with promises of a future town hall, leaving the community questioning Dolton's leadership direction.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: 4:05pm- Over the weekend, Kamala Harris did several interviews with friendly outlets—including a bizarre interview with the dating/sex podcast “Call Her Daddy.” But will these types of appearances appease her critics? Not likely. On Sunday, Politico's Playbook argued that Harris is “still largely avoiding the media.” They continue: “Most of these are not the types of interviews that are going to press her on issues she may not want to talk about, even as voters want more specifics from Harris. Instead, expect most of these sit-downs to be a continuation of the ‘vibes' campaign Harris has perfected.” You can read Politico's Playbook here: https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2024/10/06/harris-messaging-bonanza-begins-00182623 4:20pm- While appearing on Meet the Press, NBC News National Political Correspondent Steve Kornacki revealed that Donald Trump is poised to earn a significant portion of the Latino vote in Pennsylvania in 2024. He explains: "Reading, Pennsylvania is 70% Latino. It was overwhelmingly Democratic in 2020—Joe Biden won by 45 points. But look, that's down almost 20 points from 2012. Hazelton, Pennsylvania is more than 60% Hispanic. In 2012, Democrats won it narrowly—it's now a double-digit Trump place. Allentown has come down 10 points in its margin for Democrats." 4:30pm- The Truth About Amber Thurman's Death. Nicholas Tomaino of The Wall Street Journal investigates the death of 28-year-old Amber Thurman in Georgia—a tragic death Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have falsely blamed on restrictive Georgia abortion laws. Tomaino finds: The law, which Gov. Brian Kemp signed in 2019 and a state judge in Atlanta enjoined last week, defines abortion as an act intended to ‘cause the death of an unborn child' when a “detectable human heartbeat” is present. Thurman's unborn children were, it seems, already dead. Even if they hadn't been, however, the law allows for immediate treatment ‘when a physician determines, in reasonable medical judgment, that a medical emergency exists' or that the ‘pregnancy is medically futile.' Contrary to Ms. Harris's claim, no abortion statute in the country requires doctors to ‘wait until the patient is at death's door' to intervene…Medicare's rating of Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, where Thurman died, gives it two out of five stars and reports that only 41% of patients with severe sepsis or septic shock received appropriate care.' (The national average is 61%.).” He concludes that the Harris-Walz campaign “grossly ignores the facts, stokes needless fear among vulnerable women and medical professionals alike, and exploits a young woman who tragically died.” You can read the full article here: https://www.wsj.com/opinion/the-truth-about-amber-thurmans-death-abortion-procedure-state-laws-healthcare-f302e4f9?mod=opinion_lead_pos7
