HEY GUYS DJ Qualls and Kelly Blackheart are back, hungover and unfiltered on Locked and Probably Loaded — trading ridiculous bar stories, late-night TV confessions, and candid takes on religion, politics, and friendship. They break down a mysterious (and too-dark) horror binge, trade laughs about spilled tall-boys and karaoke in Tarzana, and debate public transit, retirement anxiety, and how much real money it would take to solve hunger and healthcare in America. Expect sharp humor, real talk, and the kinds of off-the-cuff observations only DJ & Kelly deliver. In the second half they riff on lucid dreams and dream-people, awkward trivia-night encounters with veterans, nightclub tab horror stories, Patreon plugs, and even a frank (and very comedic) check-in on DJ's sexual overactivity and sore penis situation. Subscribe for goofy storytelling, pop-culture riffs, listener voicemail playbacks, and info on live happy hours — this episode mixes belly laughs with bite-sized political outrage and heartfelt friendship moments. In this episode of Growth on the Rocks, I sit down with celebrity stylist and costume designer Darshan Gress — a 25+ year industry veteran who has styled talent for Project Runway, Top Chef, and Netflix hits like Sugar Rush and Nailed It!, plus MTV's VMAs and major ad campaigns. She knows firsthand how powerful clothing can be as a tool for transformation. But this conversation goes way beyond fashion. We dig into how to audit your closet without the overwhelm, how to rediscover your personal style when life has pulled you in every direction, and why so many high-achieving women are walking around in clothes that no longer reflect who they've become. Darshan breaks down the art of dressing authentically — not for trends or other people's expectations — but as a real expression of your identity and your next level. To work with Darshan visit: https://www.darshangress.com/info?utm_source=ig&utm_medium=social&utm_content=link_in_bio&fbclid=PAZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQMMjU2MjgxMDQwNTU4AAGn--5685xhWUlgIaZcyFwTxaZwB9fOqNtWhqfA2febbct3k-ermHkmsr887-8_aem_MZi_g5RPPubllrkXVZUIGQ
If you're following me on Instagram, you may have noticed me sharing posts about Barterloo bartering app - community powered and community building, sharing strengths and caring for each other. I'm talking with the founder, Kelly Dempsey. I learned about her when she was a guest on another New England podcaster, Molly Amatangelo's Local Treads podcast. Barterloo is just a few weeks away from launch, and it's so exciting!Kelly has quite a story - she ran a thrift store previously, and also was a contestant on Project Runway! This is part of her bio: "fashion designer, upcycler, and content creator with a passion for secondhand fashion and sustainability." She's been working toward this app her whole life; at 10 years old she would visit the local thrift shop and upcycle clothes to fit in at school - ten years old!I'm so excited for Barterloo to launch - I've already created my profile, and cannot wait to see how I can contribute to my new community when I move. I'm so grateful that Kelly has taken on creating this app!Check out Barterloo here: https://join.barterloo.com/Barterloo is on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/barterloo/Kelly's own Instagram is here: https://www.instagram.com/_kellydempsey_/Send me a message!Support the showLike this episode? It's a jam-packed show this week on BEHIND THE LENS with two fantastic films and two equally fantastic filmmakers, both of whom are enthusiastic, energetic, and excited about filmmaking. You'll be hearing from writer/director CINQUE LEE in the second half of the show, talking about his new film, the survival thriller LAST RIDE. But first up is my exclusive interview with writer/director NASTASYA POPOV, going in-depth about her narrative feature directorial film, the oh-so-funny fashion and family comedy IDIOTKA. In this sharp, irreverent comedy, a disgraced fashion designer with a dangerously low credit score, Margarita, enters a reality show (a la Project Runway) with a six-figure cash prize that would save her babushka's West Hollywood apartment. But as the competition intensifies, the show's slick producer Nicol pushes her to spin her family's struggle into spectacle, forcing Margarita to decide whether to play along or take control of her own narrative, one unhinged look at a time. Written and directed by Nastasya Popov, IDIOTKA stars Anna Baryshnikov, Camila Mendes, Julia Fox, Benito Skinner, Saweetie, Owen Thiele, Galina Jovovich, Mark Ivanir, Nerses Stamos, and Ilia Volok. Now we go from the fun of comedy to the fear, tension, and friendship that we find in the survival thriller LAST RIDE from writer/director CINQUE LEE. LAST RIDE is set in the winter of 1982, where three 12-year-old American boys find themselves stranded in a cable car with a dead body, suspended midair in the mountains of Norway during a rare celestial planetary alignment. Ironically, we just had a 6-planet planetary alignment on Saturday night. Written and directed by CINQUE LEE (and yes, he is Spike's brother), LAST RIDE stars Roman Griffin Davis (JO JO RABBIT, THE LONG WALK, GREENLAND 2), Felix Jamieson (GAME OF THRONES), Charlie Price (THE GREAT), and Kristofer Hivju. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

You're highly capable. So why does your next move feel so unclear? For senior leaders at a career inflection point — whether navigating a layoff, a values misalignment, or a long-overdue pivot — the problem is rarely a lack of skill. It's a lack of perspective. In this episode, executive coach and strategic advisor Karen Kunkel Young joins host Lori Adams-Brown to talk about what high-performing leaders consistently miss when they're standing at a crossroads — and what it actually takes to move forward with clarity, agency, and intention. In this conversation, you'll discover: Why the habits and communication styles that made you successful may now be holding you back — and how to see that shift before it costs you How to reclaim ownership of your career narrative, especially when external forces (layoffs, leadership changes, industry shifts) have made you feel like a passenger The critical transition from expert executor to strategic leader — and why skipping the mindset shift is a lose-lose for everyone How to advocate powerfully for your impact without it feeling like bragging — including the storytelling framework that connects your achievements to business outcomes A practical approach to fear in high-stakes transitions: how to name it, feel it, and use it as a launchpad rather than a brake About Karen Kunkel Young: Karen Kunkel Young is an executive coach and strategic advisor known as "the telescope in the room" — helping senior leaders step back far enough to see the blind spots, shifting influence, and hidden opportunities their current vantage point obscures. With nearly 30 years of experience as a global media showrunner (including Project Runway and Tim Gunn's Guide to Style), Karen brings a master storyteller's precision to leadership transitions, executive presence, and career pivots. Judson enjoys his first planned hookup of 2026 and realizes he may be becoming demisexual. Brian explores his newfound versatility and finds much personal satisfaction. The Hookup of the Week tells the story of an encounter that is both very hot and very wet, and leads to Judson teaching Brian a piece of sexual vocabulary. They are then joined by fashion designer and sometime Son to Judson's Daddy, Timothy Westbrook. After sharing behind-the-scenes secrets of his time on the 12th season of “Project Runway,” Timothy discusses his mission to design from a place without shame and how it inspires his very special collection, TL Brooke Bridal. He provides his unique perspective on rituals and ceremonies, and talks about how he works with clients of all gender expressions to create pieces that personify and celebrate their entire being. Timothy then reveals how he found his way to Dads and Daddies through a hookup story Judson shared on the pod three months ago, and dives deep into the fulfillment he finds in blindfolding himself during sex, his talent for being a good boy, how he protects himself when hooking up with strangers and his aspirations to a porn career. He also talks about his experience living life as a sexual person with a stoma and ostomy bag after his large intestine was removed due to ulcerative colitis. In closing, Timothy joins Brian and Judson in responding to a Go Ask Your Dad question from a listener who is confused and frustrated about an abusive hookup he suffered that returns to his thoughts when he's masturbating. College trustees consider more than just the monetary policies of universities. And former Brown University trustee Lauren Zalaznick is out with a new book that aims to humanize these often secretive roles with letters of reflection by Brown board members going back more than 100 years, some of them during other turbulent times in U.S. history. She brings the sensibility from her career as a television executive, when she led the Bravo network as it created The Real Housewives franchise and hits like Project Runway and Top Chef. In this week's Big Takeaway, Joe and Lauri record immediately after the episode airs to share their gut reactions, first impressions, and hot takes on the Red Carpet Mashups design challenge. From questionable judging to awkward apologies and a one-sided lip sync, there's a lot to unpack—even if the challenge itself didn't offer much narrative momentum. Joe and Lauri break down the Red Carpet Mashups challenge and agree that, overall, it was a difficult category with very few truly successful looks. Vita Von T. Starr is widely agreed to be the correct winner, benefiting from cohesive materials and a strong final presentation. Mixed reactions to the rest of the top queens, with skepticism around why certain looks were rewarded despite poor fit or lack of femininity. A larger discussion emerges around body shape, padding, and “female illusion”, sparked by Discord's runway presentation. Joe questions whether some queens are being rewarded more for effort and complexity than for how the final look actually reads on the body. The bottom placement sparks debate, with Lauri questioning whether the right queens were chosen to lip sync. A conspiracy theory emerges around Briar Blush's fainting incident, with speculation about production motivations and storyline timing. Kenya Pleaser decisively wins the lip sync, though Joe wonders whether she revealed too many tricks too early in the season. Both hosts ultimately agree that, taken as a whole, Briar Blush's elimination makes sense based on track record and performance. Joe and Lauri discuss the fallout between Mia Starr and Briar Blush, focusing on apologies, forgiveness, and emotional timing. Joe reflects on the idea that no one is owed forgiveness, and that apologies don't always require immediate acceptance. Observations that the cast dynamics feel tense and performative, with Lauri suggesting the queens don't genuinely like one another. Continued concern over Athena's edit, with comparisons to a classic “Jan-style” mental breakdown arc. Strong reactions to Law Roach's judging style, including comparisons to past behavior on Project Runway. Lauri calls out what she sees as unnecessary sensitivity from the judging panel, while also crediting Law Roach for correcting Michelle Visage on footwear accuracy. Joe notes how judging moments may have been edited to support Briar Blush's elimination narrative. Joe questions whether design challenges inherently lack strong storytelling compared to performance episodes. Lauri's big takeaway: the queens are polite, but not particularly bonded. Joe's big takeaway centers on conflict resolution, apologies, and emotional maturity—both inside and outside the Werk Room. This week we're bringing you a series of five episodes we always point to when people ask what Second Act Stories is all about. These "Unbelievable All-Stars" all have one thing in common: they exemplify what we're looking for in an incredible Second Act Story. Whether you're a longtime listener or brand new to the show, these episodes bring together the stories that best capture the heart of the podcast: bold choices, hard-earned wisdom, and journeys that continue to surprise and inspire. Since his junior year in high school, Chris Donovan has been sketching women's shoes. It's been his quiet obsession for the past 30+ years. At the age of 50, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. And he knew it was time to leave his safe job at the phone company to pursue his lifelong dream. "I need to follow this. I need to find out why I have this passion for shoes." Based on the recommendation of European shoe designer Aki Choklat, he was accepted to Polimoda, one of the best fashion design institutes in the world. He enrolled in an accelerated masters program and packed his bags for Florence, Italy. And while his first few months were difficult, he ended up graduating at the top of his class. Since our initial interview with Chris in October 2018, he has figured out how to turn his amazing designs into an actual product. Take it from Tim Gunn of Project Runway: "It's like nothing you've ever seen before." For more examples of Chris' amazing designs, visit www.ChrisDonovanFootwear.com. ******* If you enjoy Second Act Stories, please leave us a review here. We may read your review on a future episode! Our conversation with Brian Vickers, Lead Music Supervisor at Walt Disney Studios, is both inspiring and insightful as he shares how an early passion for music evolved into an extraordinary career.Brian has worked on a ton of projects like Project Runway, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Khloé & Lamar, Kourtney & Kim Take New York, The Real World and Bad Girls Club, including trailer campaigns for Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Black Panther and The Incredibles 2, to name a few.If you've ever found yourself obsessed with a movie soundtrack or a perfectly placed song over a scene, this is the episode for you. Brian takes us on a journey as to how he, as a Howard University grad from Birmingham, Alabama, ended up moving to Los Angeles in 2008, right before the writers' strike and how the industry's pivot to reality TV steered his early career. We talk about how the Bernie Mac Show was the series that opened his eyes to music supervision, his thoughts on AI in the music industry and what he wants aspiring creatives interested in sync to know about being 'sync friendly.'
In a world driven by fast-fashion, mass production, and shifts in retail shopping habits, the fashion industry has faced its fair share of challenges lately-particularly for entrepreneurs and small businesses.rnrnYet, Valerie May?n has remained committed to sustainability and the art of hand-crafted garments that fit everybody and every body. Valerie is the Latinx female powerhouse behind Yellowcake Shop Fashion, where her unapologetic approach to representation and empowerment through fashion has earned her multiple accolades, including Crain's Cleveland Woman of Note, Notable Latino Leaders, and the Cleveland Arts Prize, among others.rnrnValerie grew from humble beginnings as a student at the Cleveland Institute of Arts and an Etsy shop owner before gaining international recognition through Project Runway (Season 8 and All-Stars Season 5). She ultimately scaled Yellowcake from zero to six figures, without external support. Her entrepreneurial journey is filled with real-world lessons on creativity, integrity, and a lived experience on how Northeast Ohio can better support entrepreneurs.
Adaptive fashion matters. It's about dignity, confidence, creativity, and ensuring people with MS feel seen and supported. In this episode, we share our experiences as runway models at the 2nd Annual MS Focus on Fashion event in Fort Lauderdale, hosted by the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. We take you behind the scenes of a memorable weekend that went from accessible travel challenges to celebrating adaptive style. We get real about the realities of traveling with mobility devices, including navigating airports, finding accessible transportation, and the extra planning that goes into every trip. We also highlight the bright spots, including Delta Airlines' support and white-glove treatment of Jennifer's power wheelchair and the warm community at the event. Ah yes, the main event, where Jennifer models a custom hand-painted jacket by Project Runway runner-up Nancy Bolt Barringer, and Dan walks the runway in adaptive magnetic jeans and a button-down shirt from MagnaReady and a stylish cane from Fashionable Canes. Padma Lakshmi is unquestionably a woman of taste. As a host of the beloved food-competition series “Top Chef” and the star of the culinary docuseries “Taste the Nation,” she's spent nearly two decades artfully conveying—and critiquing—flavors and aromas for an audience. Before that, she was a fashion writer and model, cultivating her own sense of what's worth wearing and seeing. And she isn't done evolving: she's recently begun performing standup comedy, an art form with a notoriously steep learning curve. In a live taping at The New Yorker Festival, Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry, and Alexandra Schwartz talk with Lakshmi about the difference between discernment and pickiness, how travel has expanded her taste, and her approach to rendering judgement on TV. “I see my job as helping,” Lakshmi says. “I see my job as being the person in the kitchen who's saying, ‘Does this need a little salt?' ”Read, watch, and listen with the critics:“Top Chef” (2006—)“Taste the Nation” (2020-23)“RuPaul's Drag Race” (2009—)“American Idol” (2002—)“Project Runway” (2004—)“Padma's All American,” by Padma Lakshmi“Padma Lakshmi Walks Into a Bar,” by Helen Rosner (The New Yorker)“Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” (The New Yorker)Dijon's “Baby”“Frankenstein” (2025)New episodes drop every Thursday.
