ROBERT GREENBLATT is one of television's most prolific executives and producers, with a career spanning broadcast television, cable, streaming, and the Broadway stage. As Chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment until 2020, he ran HBO, TNT, and oversaw the launch of HBO Max which — as Max — now has over 100 million subscribers.  As Chairman of NBC Entertainment from 2011 to 2018, he brought NBC back to #1 after a decade in last place with acclaimed series such as The Voice, the Chicago trilogy, This Is Us, The Blacklist, Smash, Superstore, and The Good Place. His passion for theatre resulted in reviving the lost art of live musicals on television and NBC became the proud home of The Sound of Music Live! (seen by 20 million people), Peter Pan Live!, The Wiz Live!, Hairspray Live!, the Emmy-winning Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert!, and Annie Live! (for which he was also executive producer). Greenblatt is a Peabody and Golden Globe-winning producer in television with credits that range broadly from The Gilded Age and Six Feet Under to The Hughleys, American Family, and Elvis. He is also a prolific Broadway producer and the recipient of four Tony Awards and two Oliviers. He is currently lead producer with Neil Meron and Steven Spielberg of the musical adaptation of Smash, which will debut on Broadway in April, 2025. Prior to NBC, Greenblatt was President of Showtime Networks from 2003 to 2010 engineering a significant renaissance of that cable network with a string of hits such as Weeds, Dexter, Shameless, Nurse Jackie, Californication, This American Life, and The Tudors. He began his career at Fox Broadcasting where he is responsible for indelible shows that included Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, The X-Files, Party of Five, Ally McBeal, King of the Hill, and The Sopranos, a pilot he developed that eventually found its way to HBO.  Learn more about your ad choices. Connor and Dylan are joined by Tony Award nominee Ephraim Sykes (Our Town, Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations). It's officially fall, y'all, and we're chatting with Ephraim, one of the stars from the new Broadway production of Our Town, to kick off the season. But first: a conversation about NBC's Smash, and its upcoming Broadway adaptation. Gagged! Ephraim reflects on his time dancing on Smash, his entire love of the arts beginning with his talent for dance, as well as his inspirations and influences. We cover all things Our Town - from the glorious cast, co-starring with Zoey Deutch, their trip to Peterborough, New Hampshire, and why the themes of the play are timeless. The twins get the scoop on Ephraim's Hamilton experience from early workshops all the way to Broadway, the NYCC production of Pal Joey, and starring with Ariana Grande in Hairspray Live on NBC. Ephraim was an original Newsie, made his Broadway debut in The Little Mermaid, and was nominated for a Tony AND Grammy for Ain't Too Proud. It wouldn't be DRAMA without covering the culture, including Industry, The Perfect Couple, and the Kendrick Lamar/Drake beef. Dennis is joined via Zoom by actor-singer-dancer-influencer Garrett Clayton to discuss his new cabaret show Hero To Villain, which hits LA on September 19 and Palm Springs on September 21st. Garrett talks about the journey of the show, which takes the audience from Garrett's good guy role in Disney's Teen Beach Movie to his more recent stage work, playing villains in shows like It: The Musical and Excorcistic. He also talks about ditching his wholesome Disney image to play real life gay porn star Brent Corrigan in the 2016 film King Cobra opposite Christian Slater, James Franco and Alicia Silverstone (who actually ended up officiating Garrett's wedding.) Garrett also talks about moving to LA with nothing but a dream and a borrowed mattress, getting a job at the LA cafe Crave (where he met his husband Blake) and having his wedding covered by People magazine. Other topics include: wanting to model himself after Sutton Foster in Thoroughly Modern Millie, the pressure to stay closeted he felt from his former reps, finally coming out in an Instagram post, having to  leave the man he was in love with at home when he went to industry parties, developing a huge social media presence during the pandemic that has since turned into a lucrative side-business, the rush of playing Corny Collins in Hairspray Live! with Martin Short and Jennifer Hudson and leaving the rep who told him he needed to stay closeted because, "Nobody wants to fuck the gay guy, they want to shop with him."

JAM Joe and Michelle's Dance Podcast

Hey Jam Fam!  We are excited to share today's episode with you, featuring Phil LaDuca!  We know you know the name for being the shoe maker to the stars, but there is so much more to his story.  Thank you Phil for honesty and carving out time for us! Most recognize the name LaDuca as the pinnacle of dance shoes, but before shoes, there was Phil LaDuca, the performer, who went from classical ballet and contemporary dance, onto Broadway as a song and dance man, to ‘hoofing' with the biggest stars onstage, offstage and the big screen. Phil began his early stage career singing in rock bands in Chicago before switching gears to a dance career studying classical ballet with the premier ballet masters, Bentley Stone and Walter Camryn (actually performing in the ballet Romeo and Juliet with the legendary Rudolf Nureyev).  jazz with Lou Conte founder of Hubbard Street Dance Company, and contemporary with the Joel Hall Dancers.  On Broadway he appeared in “Brigadoon” for Agnes DeMille  (alongside Jerry Mitchell), the “Pirates of Penzance” , and was the original understudy for the Gene Kelly role in “Singin' In the Rain” for Twyla Tharp. Phil toured in “Camelot” along with staring on tour in the lead role, of Bill Snipson in “Me and My Girl”.   While in New York Phil first performed with American Dance Machine under the legendary Lee Theodore, working with such greats as Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, Ona White, Danny Daniels, Patricia Birch, Anne Reinking, Wayne Cilento and Chita Rivera.Fulfilling another creative side, Phil created the international acclaimed LaDuca Shoes, crowned the “Shoemaker to the Shoes”; designing shoes for the likes of Katy Perry, Meryl Streep, Taylor Swift, Emma Thompson, Hugh Jackman, Catherine Zeta Jones, Lea Salonga, Pink, Shania Twain, Penelope Cruz, Selena Gomez , Christina Aguilera, Harry Connick Jr. and most of the shows on Broadway and tour; Moulin Rouge, The Music Man, Wicked, Book of Mormon, Frozen, Some Like It Hot, The Cher Musical, Bandstand, An American in Paris, Kinky Boots, Matilda, Pippin, Sister Act, Annie, Anastasia, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, Aladdin; TV – Fosse/Verdon, Hairspray Live, So You Think You Can Dance, SMASH; Movies – The Eternals, The Prom, The Greatest Showman, La La Land, Chicago, Burlesque, NINE, Mamma Mia, Julie/Julia, Hail Caesar, working with such stars as Meryl Streep, Catherine Zeta Jones, Liza Minnelli, Cher, Arianna Grande, Antonio Banderas, Bette Midler, Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Hudson, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Judith Dench, Glen Close, Reba McIntire, Sarah Paulson and Tatum Channing to name a few.Along with being the first, “Shoe commentator' for Miss America in 2015, Phil is most proud of being bestowed a Drama Desk Award 2017 for, “Proving that character comes from the ground up, the designer's innovative flexible dance ensures that hoofers on any stage remain on point”.Mr. LaDuca continues to design but still finds time to teach Master Theatre Jazz Dance classes. “I believe in not only giving back to this great community of dance, but I also feel obligated to ‘pass the baton' to future generations, all the knowledge I was gifted by the greats who taught and influenced me to achieve my goals and dreams”.Thank you for listening Jam Fam! Why I'll Never Make It - An Actor’s Journey

The life of an actor is often a cross between a seesaw and a rollercoaster. Sometimes it's as simple as an up or down choice between opportunities and trying to find the balance in our life and work. While other times we're just along for the ride (especially when it comes to auditions and callbacks), going in ways we can't control and just doing our best to make the best choices in the moment. And today's guest reminds us how unpredictable that rollercoaster be and that finding balance can oftentimes be difficult.  Ricky Schroeder has been dancing since he was 3 years old and has gone on to do a variety of projects from musicals like Kinky Boots and Hairspray Live to television shows including The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Pose. Now, his name may sound similar to another actor from Silver Spoons and NYPD Blue, but on Twitter he's quick to point out he's not that Ricky Schroder. In fact, he's been working to make his mark as more than just a dancer but rather an all around performer in the areas of acting, singing, and even improv. So this conversation with Ricky will be slightly different from other episodes as it highlights a journey common to all actors, one of hopeful expectation as well disappointing missed opportunities.  The shows we discuss in this episode:  Kinky Boots Once Upon a One More Time (Britney Spears musical) Muriel's Wedding (musical) The Last O.G. (starring Tracy Morgan) POSE (starring Billy Porter) Younger (starring Sutton Foster) Broadway 4D Bye Bye Birdie Live The Last Five Years - available to monthly supporters...become one today :)   Learn more about WINMI Podcast at whyillnevermakeit.com  Please consider a monthly subscription to WINMI and get Bonus Episodes as well OR if you'd rather, you can make a one-time donation to help offset the production costs of this podcast. Whichever way you choose, your support is so very much appreciated!     Career Transition for Dancers Ricky spoke about expanding his own artistic work and efforts beyond dancing because of his love of acting and singing and wanting to be seen as more than just a dancer. While this rings true of many dancers looking to open up more creative and career opportunities for themselves, some are looking beyond dance for other reasons. That's where Career Transition for Dancers (and the Entertainment Community Fund) steps in.  Maybe you're a professional dancer dealing with a career-threatening injury or illness and aren't sure what to do next. Perhaps you feel burnt out in your dance career, wondering if there's anything else you could do for work. You're possibly thinking of starting a family or are simply looking for more financial stability but don't know where to start. Whatever your situation, the Career Transition For Dancers program offers career counseling, educational scholarships and panel discussions to assist you in navigating these choices and expanding new opportunities for your next chapter.      Final Five with Ricky Schroeder  After this main conversation, Ricky sat down to answer the five final questions. Among several topics, he shares why "making it" is an elusive concept and how social media can put undue pressure on some performers. Read it all on the WINMI Blog. THE LETTER MEN is based on the real love letters written by Gordon Bowsher to his sweetheart, Gilbert Bradley. Their love letters were exchanged between the years of 1938 and 1941 but were uncovered in 2017. Life as a homosexual at that time was incredibly difficult, gay activity was a court-martial offence, jail sentences for so-called "gross indecency" were common, and much of society strongly disapproved of same-sex relationships. Using the actual text of the letters, THE LETTER MEN transports us directly into the places of the letters and their hearts, battlefields, air raid shelters, and lost, golden moments.
