Members of the Yurok Tribe told California lawmakers that state's first year using an alert system specifically for missing Native people is making a difference. The Feather Alert system issues public messages similar to the widely used the Amber Alert process. Yurok officials say the new alerts are widely used by tribal members and other Native residents, increasing the chances of finding people who go missing. The California effort is one of the tools in the constant battle against human trafficking that disproportionately affects Native Americans and other people of color. Her mom and dad traveled with the ice shows of that era and moved from town to town 11 months out of the year. When she was 2, they put her in a show and she performed with her family in Holiday on Ice and Ice Follies as a featured performer until the age of 15. Later, she did a show in Europe with Peggy Fleming where she met choreographer Bob Paul and he went on to choreograph the skating numbers for the 70's Donny and Marie Show. They needed Skater/ Dancers and he was hired. 4 years on that show and when it was over, Debbie switched into TV production. Produced Casey Kasem's Americas Top Ten TV Show for 5 years among other shows like Portrait of a Legend and others. Debbie had her son and decided to change jobs so that she would have more time with her son…. That's how stage managing happened. Soon she was doing all the big shows like the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys as the token female. It gave me time off to raise her son and it clicked. She did every live special, award show, live tv dramas like Fail Safe with Clooney, ER live, West Wing Live and On Golden Pond live with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. It it was live, I did it and became the only woman Lead Stage Manager to do live Variety tv in LA. I eventually did American Idol the first 15 seasons on Fox as the lead stage manager. Debbie is now semi retired but do occasional shows that I want to do. I use my talents to help with activism in LA and DC for Womens March. My kids are 28 and 38. My son was on Broadway in Jersey Boys and my daughter is a therapist. I'm also a new grandma to a 6 month old. And back living in LA after a 4 year Park City adventure and commuting for work in LA.

Guest Bio: A kinky, poly, cancer-warrior, activist and sexuality educator with a Master's of Education in Human Sexuality from Widener University, Ericka Hart has taught sexuality education for elementary aged youth to adults across New York City for over 10 years, including serving as a Peace Corps HIV/AIDS volunteer in Ethiopia from 2008-2010. Diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer in May 2014 at the age of 28, she realized that neither her identity as a queer black femme, nor her sex life as a survivor, was featured prominently in her treatment. She decided to do something about it: going topless (and viral) in public, bearing her double mastectomy scars to end the lack of black, brown LGBTQIA+ representations and visibility in breast cancer awareness. Dismantling the ways that systemic patriarchy and anti-black standards of beauty affect our everyday lives, Ericka is shifting ingrained cultural modes and attitudes on chronic illness and posits visibility as vital to any radically inclusive movement toward equity. But it is her work on the medical industrial complex that forces us to see our institutions and systems of care as complicit in the perpetuation of illness in marginalized communities; unabashedly centering and sentient such that queer, trans black, brown and femme voices aren't lost among the drone of scholarly research less skilled than Hart in bringing academia to the places it refuses to go. Audiences around the world admire Ericka for her ability to challenge anti-blackness everywhere it rears its head–from the front pages of magazines, fashion week runways to the lectern. She is committed to empowering students to make a difference in the world and with each other, opening up robust discourse that connects sexual health and wellness to the systemic issues at the root of social injustice, helping students at over 20 colleges and universities across the country this past year alone discover actionable steps to confront those issues powerfully. In honor of the MLK holiday, THOTM is highlighting Dr. Kyra Greene, Executive Director of the Center on Policy Initiatives. She was selected as a civil rights speaker for the San Diego Women's March 2020. THOTM has been documenting the organizing of SDWM, and had the honor of talking with Dr. Greene in the weeks leading up to the march.
