Thomas Jefferson's 1802 letter to the Danbury Baptists—better known for its reference to a “wall of separation” between church and state—was little remembered until Chief Justice Morrison Waite revived it in Reynolds v. United States (1879). With the help of historian George Bancroft, Waite transformed Jefferson's passing metaphor into a constitutional principle, despite Jefferson's limited… The post Legal Spirits 071: Jefferson, Wine, and the Wall of Separation appeared first on LAW AND RELIGION FORUM.

MATER LIVE Interview with Lorelei Vashti-Waite by Ralph Barba
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects higher than average growth in accounting and finance positions in the coming decade. In fact, over 715,000 openings are predicted in the business and finance sphere between now and 2031. With such strong growth (and earning potential), it's no wonder educators want to prepare students for jobs in accounting and finance. In this episode, we sat down with two accounting educators: Ashley Faulkner and David Waite. Ashley is a teacher at Triton High School in North Carolina, where she is a strong certification advocate. Over the past 11 years, Ashley has earned more than 40 certifications—and helped her students earn more than 1,150 individual certifications. She has also served as an FBLA adviser and as the North Carolina Southeast Region advisor. Outside her teaching career, Ashley is the chief financial officer for Simple Web Solutions, Inc., EM Audio, Inc., and Butler Faulkner Enterprise, and she is the mother of two active children. David began his career as an auditor and was one of the rare humans who genuinely enjoyed it. After earning his CPA, he spent 15 years in public and private accounting before discovering his passion for teaching. An unexpected opportunity to teach accounting in Hawaii led him to academia, where he now focuses on bridging the gap between theory and practice. His teaching philosophy is simple: motivate students to prepare before class, engage actively during class, and tackle real-world challenges after class. Drawing from his industry experience, David strives to bring accounting to life for his students and future professionals. We talk with Ashley and David about the skills accounting and finance professionals need and how to teach these skills in the classroom. Plus, we dive into connecting with local businesses for students' internship and job opportunities. And last, but not least, how certification empowers students along the way. Learn more about Intuit certification here. Connect with educators like Ashley and David in our CERTIFIED Educator Community here. Get all the CERTIFIED Educator's Conference details here.

The relationship between science and religion has long been a heated debate and is becoming an ever more popular topic. The scientific capacity to manipulate and change humans and their environment through genetic engineering, life extension, and AI is going to take a huge leap forward in the twenty-first century, provoking endless debates around humans “playing God”. But what do we mean by this? Asking this question is surprisingly hard work. Attempts to 'essentialise' science, let alone religion, quickly run into trouble. Where are the boundaries? Whose definition of science is definitive? Which concept of religious is the authoritative one? Ultimately, neither “science” nor “religion” can be pinned down to one single meaning or definition. Rather, they encompass a family of definitions that relate to one another in a complex web of shifting ways. Drawing on extensive research with over a hundred leading thinkers in the UK — including Martin Rees, Brian Cox, Susan Greenfield, A.C. Grayling, Ray Tallis, Linda Woodhead, Steve Bruce, Adam Rutherford, Robin Dunbar, Francesca Stavrakopoulou, and Iain McGilchrist — The Landscapes of Science and Religion takes the much-needed step of asking what science and religion actually are, before turning to the familiar question of how they relate to one another. Building on this, by paying particular attention to those who sense some form of conflict here, Spencer and Waite explore where the perceived conflict really lies. What exactly are people disagreeing about when they disagree about science and religion, and what, if anything, can we do to improve that disagreement and bring about a fruitful dialogue between these two important human endeavours. Nicholas Spencer is Senior Fellow at Theos, a Fellow of the International Society for Science and Religion and a Visiting Research Fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is the author of a number of books including Darwin and God, The Evolution of the West and Atheists. He has presented a BBC Radio 4 series on The Secret History of Science and Religion, and has written for the Guardian, Telegraph, Independent, New Statesman, Prospect and more. He lives in London. Let there be Light - The American Israelite Newspaper Podcast
This week, Ted welcomes guest Chandler Waite, Director of the JCRC, to the podcast to read and discuss the latest edition of the American Israelite.
Meg Waite Clayton discusses her novel, Typewriter Beach.
What if Persephone's abduction wasn't just a tragedy, but the beginning of her empowerment? Storyteller and dream witch Libby Rose Waite weaves a spellbinding retelling of the Persephone myth that challenges everything we thought we knew about this ancient tale. Rather than focusing solely on Demeter's grief, we witness Persephone's transformation from a silenced princess to the powerful Queen of the Underworld. The story begins with Persephone trapped between her mother's suffocating love and Olympian expectations, unable to express her creative gifts. When Apollo plays his lyre, she's told not to share her music. When the Muses recite poetry, she's instructed to keep her verses hidden. This painful fifth house experience—being told your creativity isn't worthy—resonates deeply with our modern struggles. As we descend with Persephone into Hades' realm, something unexpected unfolds. Rather than remaining a victim, she begins to transform the underworld itself—decorating with flowers from Asphodel's fields, arranging stones from Sisyphus's boulder, creating beauty in darkness. In this hidden place, unseen by the judging eyes of Olympus, Persephone discovers her authentic voice and power. This revelatory episode explores the astrological tension between the fifth house (creative expression) and eleventh house (societal expectations), illuminating how our most profound self-discovery often happens in the places we least expect. Libby and Chris share personal stories of ritual, grief, and honoring the underworld journey, reminding us that sometimes we must descend to truly find ourselves. As we witness Persephone finally taking her throne beside Hades, we understand that her annual cycle of descent and return isn't just about seasons—it's about embracing all aspects of ourselves, blanketing even our darkest journeys with love, and finding sovereignty in unlikely realms.*this write up was generated by Buzzsprout's AITo find out more about Libby's work go here. My guest today is Daniel Waite Penny, a journalist and cultural critic whose recent work investigates the connection between masculinity and the climate crisis. He's the creator of NonToxic, a podcast exploring men and sustainability, and co-creator of Carbon Bros, an investigative series made in collaboration with Drilled. Here's an overview of the series:You've heard it from cable news pundits, Democratic strategists, and your favorite YouTuber: young men swung the last U.S. election for Trump. Understanding what's driving “the manosphere” and how to reach the young men in its grips is on everyone's mind right now, but we're zooming in on a different corner of it: the intersection between male grievance culture and climate denial. Why are men less likely than women to believe in climate change, or take personal or political actions against it? What does their reluctance to deal with the climate crisis have to do with men's shift to the right in general? And what can be done to reverse it?Daniel and I first connected years ago when he interviewed me about the mythopoetic men's movement. In our conversation today , we return to the themes of men, meaning, and the cultural forces shaping our times. We trace the strategic targeting of men by fossil fuel interests, the rise of the manosphere, and the appeal of dominance-based narratives offered by figures like Trump and Tate. The Mythic Masculine is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. We ask why so many men resist climate action, and how the deeper hunger for belonging, nobility, and story has been misdirected. We explore the absence of an inspiring masculine vision within progressive politics, and what might be possible if men were invited into a role of protection and stewardship.Would love to hear your comments below! For men who wish to join me in-person, I have one more Awakening the Wild Erotic weekend Aug 22-24 on Vancouver Island. Otherwise, men from all over the world can take the Deep Masculine journey.ADDITIONAL EPISODES: This is a public episode.
