In this episode, Courtney shares her struggles with her body image and how for a huge part or her life she felt shame, guilt and self blame. She talks about how she didn't fit society's standard of the ideal body type and that even after she lost weight and felt better aesthetically, much of her time was consumed with thoughts about how to keep the weight off. Courtney also talks about how when she started to work on her mindset around diet culture and body positivity things changed.Courtney McCarthy is the CEO & Founder of Loyobo FIT, a virtual community dedicated to helping women to ditch diet culture, find joy in movement, and to finally figure out how to love their body. Courtney's own journey with health and struggles around body image & weight loss inspired her to become an ACE Certified Fitness Professional. She learned the hard way how broken our views are towards women's bodies and how the formula the fitness industry presents as "the answer" keeps us stuck in a cycle of shame, guilt and self-blame. Her mission is to prove that there is another way, to help women step out of the struggle and into self-love! She teaches women how to ditch diet culture, how to heal their relationship with food and movement, and how to take the stress out of self-care. She wants you to see that you are MORE than a body and have the power to define health for yourself.Find Courtney's website hereFollow Courtney on InstagramFollow Candace on Instagram

Megan Crabbe, author of Body Positive Power joins me. In our conversation, we address how difficult real body positivity work can be -- issues of privilege, intersectionality, diversity, and the idea that barely sitting outside “the norm” of weight and beauty is not enough to create necessary change in our culture. Megan says we must watch out for the “trolls,” give compassion to people still entrenched in diet culture, and keep doing this work because it’s helping people. Megan Crabbe, creator of the @bodyposipanda Instagram movement and author of the new book Body Positive Power, joins us this week to talk about why we need to ensure the most marginalized among us are included in body positivity, how we can root out healthism in body-positive communities, how diet culture promotes disordered eating, her experience in eating disorder treatment, the need to expand our view of mental health and holistic wellness, exploring perfectionism and all-or-nothing-thinking, and so much more! YOU GUYS, this episode is
Today I'm talking to body positive yoga teacher and writer, Lily Silverton about the myths surrounding what a 'yoga body' should look like and how the narrow version of yoga, stemming from the beauty myth and propagated by diet culture, fails to make room for for people who deviate from this oppressive norm. We also talk about the concept of Ahimsa and how Lily interprets this to mean making her classes a safe, body positive space for her students. Lastly we talk about how owning your own privilege doesn't mean you can't be body positive, but it does mean that you can be critical of how diet culture has co-opted this term and how it suppresses the voices of already marginalised people. It's about holding ourselves accountable & fighting for diversity & representation of ALL bodies, not just the ones that are already visible, not just the ones we find pretty. We also talk about how, like all social change, fighting for true body positivity, equality, and diversity is slow and we are only at the beginning and how conversations like these are necessary to chip away at the status quo. Lastly, Lily shares some of her favourite bopo yoga accounts to follow. This feels like a heavy conversation in a lot of way - probably because checking our privilege feels uncomfortable, but I hope we can all learn from this. I by no means am suggesting I'm close to perfect in how we talk about these issues, but I want to learn alongside you guys, and use this podcast to learn and grow together ✌️ Show Sponsor: Symprove probiotics are offering Don’t Salt My Game listeners a 12 week supply for £120, so just a tenner a week, saving yourself almost 40 quid!
