Humdaddy History - General history for all ages

In this everyday hero episode of Humdaddy History, a man named Jacob Riis will be the focus.  As a journalist living in New York City in the late 1800’s, Riis will shed light on the deplorable living conditions many immigrants suffered in while trying to make new lives in a new country.  Riis, himself an immigrant to America in 1870, is a person with a true rags to riches story and a great example of how America offers the opportunity for people to do great things.

Episode 14 of Humdaddy History is all about the Underground Railroad.  A popular topic in today’s America, the Underground Railroad had nothing to do with a railroad and want literally underground.  This show highlights the efforts of a few of the heroes of the Underground Railroad and connects the impact that the Underground Railroad had in continuing to drive the United States apart ahead of the Civil War.

This week’s episode of Humdaddy History focuses on the little known (in America) efforts of an everyday hero named Vitold Piletzski (Witold Pilecki).  This man fought for his entire adult life to try and achieve and keep Poland’s independence.  He is also probably the only person in World War Two that volunteered to go to Auschwitz!  You do not want to miss out on this incredible story!   

In this Pre-Civil War episode of Humdaddy History, the Compromise of 1850 is unpacked.  Focusing on the efforts of senators Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, John Calhoun, William Seward and new star Stephen Douglas, this episode will reveal what deals were made to help the United States stay united.  This is a massively important Pre-Civil War topic that demonstrates how quickly the country was growing apart.

In this everyday hero episode we will take a look at a woman who lived an incredible life, Elizabeth Keckley.  Born into slavery, she worked her way to freedom and even into the White House as modiste for Mary Lincoln.  You do not want to miss out on this amazing true story of a hero that has very recently risen to prominence.

In this episode of Humdaddy History’s continuing series on events that helped lead the United States into a Civil War, the Humdaddy will discuss the Texas Revolution, the Annexation of Texas and the Mexican American War.  Each step with its complexities combined to bring a major acquisition of land to the United States and the issue of slavery back into the forefront of many people’s minds moving forward.  So catch a little Texas history, some bad pronunciation and even a quick little tune in this episode!

In episode 8 of Humdaddy History, our heroic host will take a quick look at slavery, racism and abolitionists in the Pre Civil War era of United States History.  This is always a difficult topic to take on but these topics can’t be left out of any important discussion of American History.

Episode 7 of Humdaddy History is the second in the everyday hero series. The hero spotlight for this episode is on Civil Rights leader, activist and entrepreneur Lincoln Ragsdale. Ragsdale helped fight segregation practices in Phoenix, AZ in the 1950s and 1960s, and was also a member of the well esteemed Tuskegee Airmen.  I was amazed to learn all I could about this hero from my home state and I hope you enjoy it too!

In this episode of the Humdaddy History podcast, we will dive in to another one of the causes of the U.S. Civil War. The Missouri Compromise is one of the first major actions of Congress aimed at dealing with the issue of slavery in America. Even though compromise was reached, the U.S. showed yet again that power and unity between states was a more important issue than human rights.

Episode 5 is an introduction of a new Everyday Hero concept for Humdaddy History. Every other week will feature a person that can be considered an everyday hero. Today's episode will celebrate the bravery of James McCloughan the United States' latest winner of the Medal of Honor.  McCloughan served a tour of duty during the Vietnam War as a combat medic after being drafted into the United States Army in August of 1968.  His story is one that shows true courage under fire and he exemplifies the bravery of the men of Charlie Company at the battle of Nui Yon Hill on May 13-15, 1969.

In episode 4 of Humdaddy History, the Humdaddy will unpack the history and existence of the 3/5 Compromise. Then he will attempt to connect how the actions taken to create that compromise led to similar actions eventually causing the Civil War.

In episode 3 of Humdaddy History, our host describes his own experience on the day of the terrible 9/11/01 attacks. There will also be a rundown of numbers and facts as we look back upon one of the most tragic days in American history.
