Polish soldier, Witold Pilecki was imprisoned in Auschwitz on 22 September 1940. Pilecki undertook the mission to infiltrate the camp in order to create a conspiracy network there, organize communications, send reliable data about German crimes in the camp, and possibly prepare the camp's prisoners for a possible fight. In April 1943, Witold Pilecki escaped with two fellow inmates. He wrote reports in which he described the camp terror and the tragic fate of the prisoners, as well as the progressive development of the extermination of the Jewish people in Auschwitz. Dr. Adam Cyra, the author of his biography, talks about the life, work, and tragic death of Witold Pilecki.

Do Auschwitz trafiło ponad 140 tysięcy Polaków, którzy zostali w obozie zarejestrowani, z czego połowa tu zginęła. Podcast powstał w ramach projektu Kolegium Europy Wschodniej im. There's been growing recognition in mainstream Western culture that psychedelics have a role as potential tools in personal healing and mental health. Research studies investigating the use of psychedelics in mental health treatment have rapidly increased, and many of us have questions. What does the protocol for psychedelic-assisted therapy look like? What is the difference between psilocybin, MDMA, and ayahuasca? What are the risks and benefits of psychedelics as a treatment for anxiety, PTSD, and terminal illness? Today's episode answers all of these questions and more! About Dr. Brian PileckiBrian Pilecki, Ph.D.: Dr. Brian Pilecki is a clinical psychologist at https://portlandpsychotherapy.com/ (Portland Psychotherapy) that specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders, trauma and PTSD, and psychedelic-assisted therapy. Brian practices from an orientation based in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and has extensive experience in the areas of mindfulness and meditation that he incorporates into therapy with clients. At Portland Psychotherapy, Brian is an active researcher and a study therapist on a clinical trial investigating the use of MDMA-assisted therapy for the treatment of social anxiety disorder and understanding processes of change in psychedelic therapy. He is a consultant and instructor for Fluence Training and co-chairperson for the Psychedelic Special Interest Group of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science. He also co-hosts a podcast called Altered States of Context about the intersection of psychedelics and psychotherapy. Key TakeawaysPsychedelics have a lot of attention in the media right now, but the research on them dates back to the 50s and 60s The primary psychedelics being researched for mental health concerns are psilocybin, MDMA, and ketamine. These substances are mostly safe, but there are risk factors Many people are interested in psychedelic experiences for personal growth and healing, but the current legal situation around psychedelics makes this difficult to do safely and effectively. Psychedelic-assisted therapy is time intensive and involves more than just taking a substance. Integration sessions help clients maintain the impact of their psychedelic experience. Psychedelics may be acting in part by increasing psychological flexibility, making ACT a particularly good match for psychedelic-assisted therapy Research into psychedelics for anxiety and terminal illness is promising There are cultural concerns when researching psychedelics including cultural appropriation, high cost, and the need for more diversity in research studies Relevant Resources Mentionedhttps://drdianahill.com/extras/ (Download Your Daily Practice for Episode 29 Here) Watch the YouTube video showing personal accounts with psychedelic-assisted therapy https://portlandpsychotherapy.com/resources/psychedelics-psychedelic-assisted-therapy-information-resources/ (Learn more about Psychedelic Assisted Therapy Here) Learn More about https://portlandpsychotherapy.com/brian-pilecki-ph-d/ (Dr. Brian Pilecki) https://drdianahill.com/events/ (Join Diana at an upcoming events) https://drdianahill.com/reset-and-restore-retreat/ (Reserve your spot with Diana for Retreat in Costa Rica in 2023)! Welcome to episode 21 of the Steed Cycles podcast. Today we're chatting with Tristan Olk and Scott Pilecki - Tristan and Scott are some of the original Steed Cycles staff from way back in the day when we were just earning our reputation for what we are today. They saw first-hand the shop change from a small business to one of BC's premier bike shops. Say what you want about California being the birthplace of mountain biking, but we'd argue that North Shore had a significant hand in the start of 'real' mountain biking. There are few other places in the world with such a high concentration of pro riders, industry professionals, bike companies and amazing trails. It's not uncommon to bump into a pro mountain biker on any given ride out here and Scott and Tristan remember the days when those guys weren't on anyone's radar as the sport was growing.A lot has changed since those days and it's fun to reminisce about those times. The North Shore has long been a global stage for the world's best riders and bikes, and even those of use that haven't lived here for that long remember the heyday of Cove Bikes, Banshee, Rocky mountain etc. and the ebb and flow of the bike industry. It's fun to hear about the local perspective and there's a lot we can learn about the local bike scene history from the ramblings of these guys, as well as some silly North Shore stories about #Philannel, The Dumpsters and Gaber. If you're a part of the North Shore mountain bike scene there's a ton of laughs in here, and even if you're not it makes for an entertaining listen!More than anything else, Scott and Tristan paint a picture of the cameraderie that is Steed Cycles. Some things don't change and the people that work in bike shops always have one thing in common, and that's a love for bikes. We're lucky to always attract great people to the team here and one thing that hasn't changed is that we always have great times together. Whether or not you know Scott and Tristan, it's worth taking the time to sit back and listen to some classic North Shore and Steed Cycles stories. Enjoy!
You can change your money story and build wealth. –Kaila Pilecki More money and more ease … isn't that what we all want? I'm really excited to talk with Kaila Pilecki of My Aligned Purpose about money mindset and systems. If both of those make you groan, you definitely need this conversation. Many of us equate money with freedom … but sometimes growing money can feel restrictive. We talk about how to make restrictions around money feel better. We also explore a more expansive approach that recognizes the value behind spending for growth. Choosing the approach that works with your own nature is essential. Systems are another thing that can feel restrictive. I fought against planning and systems for a long time before realizing the freedom they can bring. Whether it's systems around your money or attracting new clients or any other part of your life, systems can bring more ease — and they don't have to be a big deal to create. We talk about: Money mindset and changing your money story (making money won't make you a horrible person) The easy way to set up a system — start with what you already do Creating an amazing customer experience to make it easier to make money Understanding whether you are wired to start or finish things — and how to partner with somebody to make things happen Setting yourself up for success by getting clear and realistic about how long things actually take Delegating — and really letting go of somethings — so that you can focus BIO Kaila Pilecki is a Certified Executive Coach and co-founder of My Aligned Purpose, a coaching and learning company for ambitious women entrepreneurs. She has over a decade of experience, working in leadership and fundraising roles with non-profit organizations, where she raised millions of dollars to facilitate social change. An entrepreneur through and through, Kaila has established and operated multiple businesses including her coaching practice, managing real estate, painting houses and creating artisanal, cultured butter. Kaila specializes in creating effective, profit driven business systems that take the guesswork out of growing and scaling your business. One place to start with changing your mindset around money is to ask yourself: Where am I currently spending money? Where do I want to be spending money? What could I do to shift where I spend my money for better alignment? DOCUMENT A SYSTEM. We think of setting up systems as a big project. Start with what you already do. Document each step. Pay attention to how long each step takes. Schedule things. What parts of the system do you hate doing? Delegate or (if possible) delete. What parts don't run smoothly? You can tweak your system once you have it set up. THINK LIKE A CLIENT. How can you make it easier for people to work with you? Take some time to visit websites of other people in your field. ACT in Perspective - A prosocial podcast using behavioral science to address human suffering
Nathan Gates, MS, LPC, and Brian Pilecki, Ph.D, discuss the benefits of psychedelics in the therapeutic process, particularly with the psychological flexibility of ACT and other process-based therapy models. We discuss the history of psychedelics, the major key players, the fears which led to government control in the late 60s and beyond, the underground psychedelic culture, and the recent resurgence of legitimate research of the past 20 years. We discuss the exponentially growing peer reviewed research that's leading the way to treat depression, social anxiety, PTSD, the fears of those with terminal illnesses. We are just scratching the surface of the transformative power of psychedelics when used correctly with psychological flexibility processes of behavior change. There's an incredible amount of work left to do, but the evidence clearly shows the potential benefits that far exceed what psychotherapy and psychotropic medications could ever do alone. Watch, enjoy, subscribe and leave a comment! Thanks!

A Polish avant-garde film dating from before World War II has been found in the German federal archives. The movie, called ‘Europa', was made by surrealists Stefan and Franciszka Themerson and is a critique of the rise of Nazism in germany at the beginning of the 1930s. During the war the film was thought to have been destroyed, but one copy has been unearthed in Berlin and is to get its world premier at the London Film Festival later this month. Host John Beauchamp talks to Wojciech Kozłowski, Director of the Pilecki Institute, which was instrumental behind the film's unearthing. “Witold Pilecki” voluntarily was captured by Nazi's during WWII with the intention of infiltrating Auschwitz (THE major deathcamp of the Holocaust) in order to collect intelligence, form an internal resistance among prisoners, then escape and report his findings to Poland, and subsequently to the rest of the world. - At the time, it was unclear what atrocities were taking place in Nazi concentration camps. Rumors were present, but the true extent of systematic killing of humans was not known. - Witold Pilecki was responsible for bringing many of these heinous acts to light in his writings, “Witold's Report”. - Pilecki spent 2.5 years in Auschwitz (VOLUNTARILY!) to complete his mission and suffered greatly. He fought in a major battle almost RIGHT after escaping Auschwitz, then was brutally tortured for treason by puppet governments, and finally executed. Throughout all of this he exemplified bravery, valour, truth, and resolve. - This is a story of a model human being. A true hero. - Herein, we discuss an under-reported yet stunning story of Witold Pilecki and his struggles during WWII. This guy is a beast, it would behoove of us to learn from his actions. One person can truly make a massive difference. - What say you?

This guy is badass. He started a spy network within Auschwitz. He also escaped after he volunteered to go into Auschwitz. He may have been a little crazy not that i think about it.
Today’s guest is Nik Pilecki, a cinematographer based out of Ontario Canada. As he’ll say in the interview, he’s an open book. And that book is packed with awesome lighting, camera work, and practical tips for progressing your film career. Some of my favorite examples of Nik's work include his music video work for “first prescription”, Plain White: Brigade, his SFA firemen ad, and the short film Inhale. In this interview, we talk about Nik’s crazy journey into the film world and you’ll SEE why he has an EYE for lighting and executes his camera work with surgical precision. And yes those jokes are as CORNEA-s they come. We talk about cameras, lights, real actionable tips to meet other talented filmmakers, the best hamburger chain known to man, and how passion projects can take you to the next level of work. I really admire Nik and I’m so thankful he agreed to come on the show. I would recommend taking notes on what he says because I really believe if you do what he says, you will progress faster in the film industry wherever you are.
Witold Pilecki, a resistance fighter in the Polish underground, was sent on a mission of great danger and crucial importance to the fight against the Nazis. Witold was tasked with the infiltration of a new camp, that there was scant intelligence on. That camp was Auschwitz. What Witold found there continues to be remembered today for its unimaginable horror, but at the time Witold's reports from inside the camp fell on deaf ears.Pilecki's time in the camp was documented by Jack Fairweather in his book - The Volunteer. Jack tells Witold's story here.Additional audio licensed by the Imperial War Museum.
This week Molly and Sam discuss Witold Pilecki, an unsung heroes of World War II whose legacy was buried by Soviet Russia. Like many of the heroes of the Warsaw Uprising, nearly no one in the Anglosphere has ever heard of Witold Pilecki, a deeply Catholic member of the Polish resistance. However, his heroism is inspiring far beyond his actions during the largest single act of Polish resistance to the Nazi regime. When we speak of resistance against the Nazis by occupied nations, we speak almost exclusively of the French and sometimes of the Dutch. Rarely mentioned are the Poles, despite the fact that they had a functioning government in exile coordinating with an underground government on the ground with its own military arm, the Polish Home Army. As part of his duties in the Polish Home Army, Pilecki volunteered for service as a prisoner in Auschwitz so that he could gather intelligence. This made him one of the first people to report on Nazi atrocities during World War II. Unfortunately, like many others, he picked the wrong side of the coin in Eastern Europe, backing the liberal-democratic government of Poland against the Communist government backed in Moscow. This meant that much of his heroism was unknown until the 1990s, after the fall of Communism and the release of documents that had been suppressed by the Communists for decades. Stories of bravery and selflessness will always rise through the fire.
Former war correspondent and author Jack Fairweather joins Tim to talk about the one man who elected to volunteer to be taken prisoner to fight the Nazis from inside of Auschwitz during World War II. Jack tells Tim why the world is only learning more about Witold Pilecki now, and how his story of bravery, heroics and the ultimate sacrifice almost was lost to history. Pilecki took on one of the most daunting tasks anyone would take in the war. https://traffic.libsyn.com/shapingopinion/The_Volunteer_auphonic.mp3 Think about this for a second. He's the only known voluntary inmate of Auschwitz. He spent spent two and a half years as a member of the Resistance, gathering intelligence from German army during World War II from inside the concentration camp. Now, let that sink in. Witold Pilecki was a member of the Polish army, and on September 19th 1940, he intentionally allowed himself to be arrested by the Nazis. After that he was detained with roughly 1,800 Polish political prisoners, and then he was taken to Auschwitz, where he would be imprisoned for the next two and a half years. To his captors, he was nothing more than Prisoner 4859. Click here to buy book via Amazon Here's what happened. Pilecki, a Catholic, had already served in the Polish Army and married a local school teacher named Maria before the hostilities started. They had two children. He ran the family farm, painted and wrote poetry and lived a quiet life. In 1939, he was called back to military service when the Nazis invaded Poland. Poland was quickly defeated and became occupied by the German army. After that, Pilecki found his way to Warsaw to serve as part of the underground resistance against the Nazis. Not long after that, in August of 1940, the Nazis had taken prisoner a group of Polish political opponents and transported them to Auschwitz. It didn't take long before the families of those prisoners were notified of their deaths. The Polish underground suspected murder, but needed more information. That was when he volunteered to investigate from the inside. After two and a half years, he would escape and write a 100-page report on life inside the Auschwitz death camp. The Mission In October 1940, Pilecki successfully sent out his first report with a released inmate. It reached the Polish Government-in-exile in March 1941, who passed it onto the Allies. At the time of Pilecki's internment, Auschwitz was a concentration camp intended to hold predominantly political prisoners from Poland. He witnessed the changing demographic and horrifying treatment of each persecuted group. His reports described the early experiments conducted on Soviet prisoners of war, who were murdered with poisonous gas. This laid the foundations for the mass-murder of many Jews in the purpose-built gas chambers and crematoria. He described the pain suffered by other prisoners undergoing experiments against their will; many died from their injuries. Pilecki over time met fellow members of the Polish underground and began to create a secret organization inside Auschwitz. The organization ran at great risk. They built a radio transmitter from smuggled parts. Through this transmitter, he reported on conditions inside the camp, and he told of the number of deaths. At some point he had to stop communicating for risk of being discovered. Witold Pilecki Escapes Pilecki escaped Auschwitz in April 1943. He decided to escape this time because key members of his organization were sent to other concentration camps. He felt he would get transferred, too. He and two others only had one night to carry out their plan. They knew if they failed, they'd be hung in a public execution. They removed the bolts from a heavy door while the guards' backs were turned. All three traveled about 100 miles over one week on foot to reach safety. Episode 22 a little late but that's because Chips and Jaybor had to accommodate the Prima Donna that is the man, the myth, the Mad Dog... Hunter Thomas from Wests Rugby Club. Coming up on 30 years of club footy at Wests, Hunter offers a personal insight into what Stan "The Pole" Pilecki meant to Wests and the greater rugby community, ahead of Wests Old Dogs Day this weekend (the first since Big Stan's passing late last year). The lads discuss the recent QLD Reds awards (aptly named after The Big Man himself), the Super Rugby Finals and of course, all the action in QLD Premier Rugby, as things heat up with only 1 round left before finals. We don't know about you but our pants are chaffing the hell out of us... Let's get stuck in!
This week’s episode of Humdaddy History focuses on the little known (in America) efforts of an everyday hero named Vitold Piletzski (Witold Pilecki). This man fought for his entire adult life to try and achieve and keep Poland’s independence. He is also probably the only person in World War Two that volunteered to go to Auschwitz! You do not want to miss out on this incredible story!
In September 1940 Polish army captain Witold Pilecki volunteered to be imprisoned at Auschwitz. His reports first alerted the Allies to the horrors at the camp and helped to warn the world that a holocaust was taking place. In this episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll follow Pilecki into the camp, hear his reports of the atrocities he witnessed, and learn why his name isn't better known today. We'll also meet the elusive Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus and puzzle over how hitting a target could save thousands of lives.
