My life as one of the first women pilots in Africa in the 80’s and 90’s. The ups and downs of existing in a mans world, and my determination to make a difference.
Let me just say that it's great to be back. It has been almost 2 months since my last episode, work and personal commitments kept me busy. It was also a time for some reflection. Looking back on your past is an interesting but sometimes complex task. I think I almost overwhelmed myself with the content of my aviation career, as well as re-living the highs and lows of a life past. But no matter, I am back, with the next installment. In this episodeI learn the outcome of the Twin Otter crash in Abuja and why it happened, new customers come on board as we launch our new services, and our new charter jet finally arrives in Lagos.PrintMyTops

Is loyalty to my company an insurmountable stumbling block to leaving? Whilst all that is happening in my head, I spend my weekends at the Lagos Flying Club, going back to basics.

IN 2019, having just run a PB in the Cambridge Half Marathon, Suze was pretty shocked to discover she, in fact, had advanced stage 3 bowel cancer. She was only 36, fit and healthy, forced to re-evaluate her life in an instant. In an attempt to organise her own feelings and stop other people facing the same dilemma, she began writing about her experiences, first for True Stories Live and then in her very own Blog ‘Let’s talk about poo’.During treatment, Suze found that her continued commitment to fitness and exercise had a positive impact on the severity of her chemo side effects and has since added ‘encouraging other cancer patients to exercise through treatment’, to her list of aims for the blog and Instagram account, alongside getting people talking openly about poo.https://www.letstalkaboutpoo.com/

She’s a mum, artist and jack of all trades. When she’s not working, she likes to spend time with her daughter in their mini zoo and sketch when she gets the chance. Faye has three passions in life, nature, anything prehistoric and Tina Turner. Her art reflects her enthusiasm for these subjects and when she’s not working on pet commissions, she likes to create her own style of colour pencil artwork and the occasional watercolour or ceramic piece. Faye was diagnosed at 34 with autism (Asperger’s) and the late diagnosis has transformed her life. She grew up feeling like she was an alien, she never fit into the norm or to those around her, but she now understands that she’s simply from another planet! As an advocate for young girls with autism, she feels that too many slip under the radar or are misdiagnosed and therefore do not get the support they require. Faye’s new moto and one she tries to live by is ‘BE YOUR trueSELF’

In this episode, training continues at the Lagos Flying Club, and I fall out with some private members who know better than I do, when it comes to training pilots, even though they have no instructor qualifications. My secondment comes to an end, and I elect to return to Bristow’s even though I am offered a permanent job with Mobil Oil and I address the peer pressure which is resulting in stressful situations off duty.
