Today's guest is Austin Jochum. Austin Jochum is the founder of Jochum Strength, a former All-Conference safety turned performance coach known for playful, movement-rich training. He blends strength, speed, and adaptability to help athletes build real-world capability and enjoy the process. So often, coaches inadvertently play by the formal “rules” of coaching, through substantial instruction, within smaller boxes of training. Gameplay and sport itself are the ultimate example of task-based stimulation, chaos, and problem-solving, and the more we learn from it, the more effective our training can become. In this episode, Austin Jochum and I explore how coaching transforms when you trade rigid cues for play, stimulus, and athlete-driven learning. We dig into why intent and novelty matter, how to “win the day” without chasing constant PRs, and the power of environments that let athletes self-organize. Austin speaks on his recent dive into improving his Olympic lifting, and subsequent improvement in explosive athletic power, along with the masculine and feminine nature of the snatch and clean and jerk, respectively. Finally, Austin also breaks down the JST Olympics—his team-based approach that's exploding motivation, competition, and performance in the gym. Add low-level grappling or tagging games to build instinctive reaction. Favor tasks where athletes solve problems on their own rather than through constant cueing. Let athletes “feel” leverage, pressure, and timing instead of explaining it. 14:30 – Build constraints that shape behavior instead of commanding technique Austin's “maze” concept uses environment and rules to funnel athletes into better movement patterns. Use boundaries, footwork boxes, or timing rules to nudge athletes into desired solutions. Ask “what would make the athlete naturally move better?” instead of “how do I cue it?” Encourage unpredictable tasks that force athletes to explore and adapt. 22:40 – Exploration outperforms instruction for long-term development Austin finds that athletes learn faster when they discover solutions. Give them space to experiment before layering instruction. Adjust one variable at a time and let athletes reorganize around it. Use questions (“What did you feel? What would you try next?”) to guide reflection. 31:18 – Games expand movement bandwidth Austin uses play-based drills to build coordination, elasticity, and adaptability. Rotate games: tag, dodgeball variations, reactive pursuit, to challenge perception-action loops. Use small-sided tasks to increase decision density without overthinking. Keep the focus on fun: fun increases intent and frees up movement quality. 38:01 – Use wrestling-inspired drills for strength without rigidity Wrestling movements gave Austin strong connective tissue without bulky lifting. Use partner-resistance tasks for whole-body strength and tension awareness. Build isometrics out of wrestling positions for joint integrity. Allow controlled chaos; body contact builds stabilizing capacity. 45:10 – Heavy rope work for rhythm, sequencing, and tissue tolerance Austin relies on heavy rope patterns for global coordination. Use ropes to sync hands, feet, hips, and breath. Program flowing, continuous patterns to teach timing and smooth force transfer. Start with simple rhythms, then build patterns that cross midline. 52:46 – Culture and community determine training success Austin emphasizes hiring people who share curiosity and a growth mindset. Build environments where coaches model exploration, not perfection. Encourage shared training, shared learning, and open dialogue. Make the gym a place where athletes feel safe to try new things. 1:01:37 – Encourage imitation and athlete-led learning Austin sees imitation as a primary learning driver. Let athletes watch each other and imitate good movers. Create partner structures where athletes observe and mirror. Limit over-coaching so imitation can self-organize movement. 1:10:55 – Use recovery tools to teach regulation, not toughness Cold exposure and breathing work are about awareness and control. Focus on downregulation, not chasing extreme discomfort. Teach athletes how to relax under stress through controlled exposures. Keep recovery practices consistent and simple. 1:18:42 – Breathing for awareness and movement refinement Austin uses breath as a sensory anchor for better movement feel. Teach nasal breathing during warmups to increase internal awareness. Pair breath with movement tasks to improve timing and relaxation. Explore slow breathing to reduce unnecessary tension. 1:24:52 – Rhythm and tempo drive better movement than force Austin believes rhythm is the “glue” of athleticism. Use music, metronomes, or rhythmic cues to build flow. Train movements at different tempos to expand adaptability. Emphasize smoothness over force output when teaching skills. 1:30:48 – Stay curious and evolve your practice Austin's philosophy centers around lifelong learning. Revisit old drills with new perspectives. Explore different disciplines (dance, wrestling, martial arts). Let your own training experiment inform your coaching. Quotes from Austin Jochum “Wrestling taught me to solve problems in real time. You can't fake instinct in that environment.” “When you build the right constraint, you don't have to coach as much. The environment does the teaching.” “Exploration gives athletes ownership. They learn the lesson at a deeper level.” “Games create bandwidth. The more options you give the athlete, the more adaptable they become.” “Wrestling positions gave me strength that the weight room couldn't.” “Ropes taught me rhythm and timing. They connect the whole body.” “Culture is the system. If the environment is right, the training takes care of itself.” “I want athletes to imitate great movement, not memorize cues.” “Cold exposure isn't toughness. It's learning how to regulate yourself under stress.” “Breathing is awareness. It gives you access to better movement.” “Rhythm is the missing piece in performance. Smooth beats strong.” “The more curious I am, the better my athletes get.” About Austin Jochum Austin Jochum is the founder of Jochum Strength, a performance coach known for blending old-school grit with modern movement science. A former University of St. Thomas football player and All-Conference safety, Austin built his philosophy around “training the human first,” emphasizing play, adaptability, and athletic expression over rigid templates. His coaching blends strength, speed, breathwork, and movement variability, creating athletes who are not just powerful—but resilient and skillful in chaotic environments. Through his in-person gym in Minnesota, online programs, and the Jochum Strength Podcast, Austin has become a leading voice in community-driven athletic development, helping athletes and everyday movers reconnect with their bodies, build real-world ability, and enjoy the process.

Late 90's and early 2000's R&B carried a kind of love and passion that wrapped its fans in emotion the moment the first note hit. It made people feel wanted, cherished, and deeply desired. This was an era where men weren't afraid to pour their hearts into a melody—singing openly about devotion, intimacy, and the lengths they'd go to for the women they loved. Often called “baby-making music,” 90's R&B became a blueprint for romance, teaching men how to court a woman with tenderness, intention, and respect. Smooth harmonies, slow grooves, and heartfelt lyrics defined what many still call the Golden Era of R&B—a time when music didn't just sound good, it felt good, reminding everyone what real love was supposed to feel like.R&B Royalty presented by:DJ Mike Nick's .... Send us your feedback In this episode, Partner Tom Maasland and Senior Solicitor Abbey James from our Technology team unpack Transitional Services Agreements (TSAs), a critical yet often overlooked component of business transitions, offering both legal and practical insights to help navigate them with confidence.[00:50] Tom and Abbey discuss the fundamentals of TSAs, explaining what they are, the services they typically cover, and how they help buyers “keep the lights on” and maintain business continuity during the transition to full operational independence after a purchase.[02:08] Abbey and Tom explore what should be included (and excluded) in a TSA, noting that these decisions largely depend on the complexity of the business being sold and the extent to which its IT systems are intertwined[04:14] They canvas the key features of TSAs and highlight some common legal pitfalls. Tom emphasises that TSAs are not profit-making arrangements, so fees are typically structured as fixed or cost-plus. Abbey adds that buyers should also manage expectations around service delivery, noting that TSAs are designed to ensure continuity, rather than service excellence.[07:12] They discuss termination, liability, and governance emphasising the need for clear exit plans, fair liability caps, and thought-out governance structures. Tom notes that defining IP ownership and licensing during the TSA is critical to avoid disputes, especially when shared technology is involved.[09:08] Tom considers the tech entanglement risks, explaining how today's cloud based, and subscription-based software models impose significant licensing restrictions that can delay transitions and inflate costs. He notes that reviewing licence terms and divestment rights early is essential to avoid costly surprises.[10:26] They round out the episode sharing their top tips for building a successful TSA, starting with engaging early, well before the sale and purchase agreement is signed. They highlight the importance of clearly defining the scope, identifying third-party and staffing risks, managing data safely through technical (not just contractual) measures, and planning ahead for stranded assets. Information in this episode is accurate as at the date of recording, 24 October 2025. A great marketing engine doesn't run in a straight line. It spins, gathers speed, and builds momentum with every turn. That's the lesson of the flywheel, a framework that transforms scattered marketing efforts into a self-sustaining system of growth. In this episode, we explore how to turn that theory into reality with Nataly Kelly, Chief Marketing Officer at Zappi.Together, we unpack what B2B marketers can learn from building circular strategies that connect brand to demand, removing friction where it matters most, and compounding small wins into unstoppable momentum.About our guest, Nataly KellyNataly Kelly is CMO at Zappi. She has over 20 years of experience leading remote and global teams, and previously served 7 years as VP at HubSpot. She is a frequent contributor to Harvard Business Review, a published author of four books, keynote speaker on marketing, growth, and international expansion, and an award-winning leader. She has been named among the Top 50 CMOs on LinkedIn, as Marketing Executive of the Year, in the 40 under 40, and one of the Top 25 Content Marketers in Enterprise Software, as well as among the Women Worth Watching. What B2B Companies Can Learn From the Flywheel:Marketing is a flywheel, not a funnel. Marketers love funnels because they're measurable, but Nataly reminds us that the best marketing is circular, not linear. She says, “So often we have thought of marketing as like a linear funnel. But the flywheel's really where you turn the funnel on the side and then connect the top to the bottom.” In her model, brand, demand, land, and expand all feed each other in an ongoing loop. Marketing shouldn't be about one campaign that ends. It's about creating continuous energy that connects awareness to advocacy.Friction kills momentum. Velocity doesn't come from spending more, it comes from removing what slows you down. Nataly explains, “A general rule of thumb I've always used is the closer you get to someone's wallet, the more important it is to remove friction…. Every touchpoint is a chance to delight a customer.” In B2B marketing, the same rule applies: every confusing process, clunky message, or slow response is a brake on your flywheel. Smooth the path, and speed will follow.Small improvements compound into unstoppable growth. Marketers often look for a big splash, but Nataly says momentum comes from micro progress. Nataly asks, “What are the small things we can do to create uplift today and momentum today?... And those things add up.” Each small optimization—an improved touchpoint, a clearer message, a faster follow-up—removes friction and accelerates the flywheel. Consistency, not chaos, creates compounding power.Quote“Your brand voice is really how you decide to communicate with your customer. And that is not just what we typically consider marketing communications. It touches every part of the customer experience.”Time Stamps[00:55] Meet Nataly Kelly, Chief Marketing Officer at Zappi[01:09] Why Flywheels?[05:16] Role of Chief Marketing Officer at Zappi[07:30] What are Flywheels?[20:52] Understanding Market Dynamics and Customer Segmentation[22:11] Building and Maintaining a Flywheel Strategy[26:11] Content Marketing Success Stories[33:51] Leveraging LinkedIn for Effective Content Distribution[39:22] Final Thoughts and TakeawaysLinksConnect with Nataly on LinkedInLearn more about ZappiAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. The result is pure signature Muchacho: hypnotic yet explosive, smooth yet charged with tension. It's the kind of set that lures you in slowly, then takes complete control — a fitting soundtrack for late nights, deep emotions, and moments that linger long after the final note fades. Cheers! 3. Launch Mechanics, Primitive Technology, and Trans Lunar Injection. Bob Zimmerman discusses how Apollo 8 launched on December 21, 1968, the first day of its window, following a smooth ride on the powerful Saturn 5 rocket. Engineers had mitigated the "pogo" vibration effects that plagued earlier test flights. After one Earth orbit to verify systems, they performed the Trans Lunar Injection (TLI), firing the upper stage Saturn engines to accelerate toward the moon. This moment marked the first time humans were visibly leaving Earth orbit, an experience Jim Lovell described as the Earth shrinking rapidly, like the exit of a tunnel. The Apollo capsule's onboard computer system was highly primitive, inferior to a simple digital watch calculator. Astronauts had to manually enter long strings of numbers dictated by ground control to execute maneuvers, although Borman maintained the use of a manual override for absolute precision. 1966 APOLLO 1
If you thought SEO was complicated…meet its AI-powered cousin. In this episode, Carly and Joe break down the buzzword that dominated INBOUND, AEO (AI Engine Optimization), and explain what it actually means for solopreneurs. Spoiler: it's not about gaming algorithms or chasing clicks. It's about making sure your voice, ideas, and frameworks show up when AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google Gemini answer your audience's questions. You'll learn:What AEO really is (and what it isn't)The small tweaks that help your content stand out in AI search resultsWhy clarity > cleverness in your copyAnd why human connection still beats machine optimization every timeIf you've ever wondered how to future-proof your visibility without losing your authenticity, this one's for you.FAQs From The EpisodeWhat's the difference between SEO and AEO, and do I really need both? SEO helps search engines (like Google) find you. AEO helps AI engines (like ChatGPT or Perplexity) understand and surface your content. While SEO is still valuable, AEO focuses more on structure, clarity, and credibility signals that make AI choose you as the source when answering questions. You don't need to overhaul everything. Just start optimizing for both audiences: humans and machines.I'm a coach/consultant/service provider. Does AEO even matter for me? For most solopreneurs, relationships and referrals still drive the majority of business. But AEO is a long-term play. If someone asks an AI tool, “Who's the best productivity coach for solopreneurs?” or “What's the SMOOTH method?”—you want your name, content, or frameworks to appear. It's not urgent, but it's smart to start now so you're discoverable later. What's one simple AEO tweak I can make today? Add an FAQ section (like this!) to your website or blog posts. AI scrapes well-structured Q&A content, and it's one of the easiest ways to signal authority. Bonus tip: use clear, direct language over clever wording. AI prioritizes clarity, and so do readers.

Barry and Abigail discuss Rockin' From the Grave and sample Pumpkin Shandy from Penn Brewery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (in collaboration with Soergel Orchards in Wexford, Pennsylvania), Jack from Urban Artifact in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Mind Over Matter from Magnify Brewing Company in Fairfield, New Jersey. We have gone zero episodes without mentioning the White Album or Abigail's personal White Album, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Both Black Magic Woman and a cover of The Devil Went Down to Georgia by Steve Ouimette appear on GHIII: LoR, but Abigail was mistaken about (Don't Fear) The Reaper's inclusion; in fact, Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll is the Blue Öyster Cult representation on GHIII: LoR, and (Don't Fear) The Reaper is actually on Rock Band, which Abigail has played, but the Hummels have never owned.Listen to our exploration of The Munsters Theme's many different iterations in last year's Halloween episode, New Belgium Halloween (New Wave Halloween & New Belgium Brewing)! Today, we also listened to the version with lyrics and briefly discussed Far Out Munsters, the episode where the Munsters rent their home to a Beatles-inspired rock group.Edgar Winter's justification of naming his song Frankenstein because of its “monster-like, lumbering beat” reminded Abigail of Flight of the Cosmic Hippo by Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.Watch the music video for Addams Groove by MC Hammer.Barry educated Abigail about the famous “More Cowbell” sketch from SNL, which centers around the studio recording of (Don't Fear) The Reaper! In looking deeper into the fun fact from Carlo's Corner about salt killing yeast, we stumbled upon this article on the history and science of Goses written by the brewmaster of Anderson Valley Brewing Company in Boonville, California, a brewery known for their Goses. Per the article, some Goses from the early 20th century had between 130 and 280 ppm of salt. Anderson Valley typically adds about 800 ppm of salt - but only after fermentation. It is thought that as little as 100-150 ppm of salt can cause osmotic stress to the yeast and therefore decrease fermentation rates, but the salt concentration required to completely inhibit fermentation or cause death for the yeast are much higher than humans would tolerate as palatable in a beverage.Santana's Black Magic Woman is a mash-up cover of Black Magic Woman by Fleetwood Mac and Gypsy Queen by Gábor Szabó. Abigail would much rather listen to Smooth (feat. Rob Thomas). While Abigail believes Johnny clearly won the fiddle battle in The Devil Went Down to Georgia, John Oliver strongly disagrees. Watch the boss battle against the devil from GHIII: LoR.We previously discussed the word “pompatous” (found in Clap For the Wolfman by The Guess Who) during our discussion of Steve Miller Band's The Joker in our episode Cans (k.d.lang and Cigar City Brewing).Read more about Paracelsus and the absolutely nauseatingly eye-rollingly annoying reason he took the name Paracelsus.Barry made Abigail play a little bit of Grandmaster Dee's Haunted Scratch, the original B-side to Freaks Come Out at Night by Whodini.Twilight Zone by Golden Earring was inspired by The Bourne Identity novel, and you may be able to tell this from the music video. The other song from two-hit wonder Golden Earring you may have heard of would be Radar Love.(Ghost) Riders in the Sky is a cover originally written and performed by Stan Jones. Prior to The Outlaws' version, Johnny Cash's version was the most well-known.Up next… Brothers in Arms by Dire StraitsJingles are by our friend Pete Coe.Visit Anosmia Awareness for more information on Barry's condition.Follow Barry or Abigail on Untappd to see what we're drinking when we're not on mic!Leave us a rating or a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify!Facebook | Instagram | Bluesky | YouTube | Substack | Website | Email us | Virtual Jukebox | Beer Media Group
