In this week's episode, Dr Louise Newson is joined by Ferne McCann, TV personality, reality star, entrepreneur, and co-founder of the wellness app Shoorah. Ferne first rose to fame on The Only Way Is Essex and has since appeared on shows like I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Dancing on Ice. Ferne talks candidly about the hormonal changes she experienced during and after pregnancy, and how breathwork learned through hypnobirthing helped her stay calm and manage stress during childbirth. She also opens up about how pushing herself beyond her comfort zone - whether learning to skate for Dancing on Ice or taking part in Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, has strengthened her resilience and confidence. She reflects on the value of embracing challenges and aims to inspire curiosity and courage in her daughters while continuing to embrace these qualities herself. Their conversation then turns to perimenopause, with Louise explaining how fluctuating hormones after pregnancy can affect mood and wellbeing. The episode closes with Ferne sharing her three take-home tips, plans for an exciting new podcast, Every Cloud, and other upcoming projects. We hope you're loving the new series! August is the time of year that families take that last fling and perhaps go to the mountains before school starts. It is often a quiet time of reflection, a time to reflect on many happy summertime activities. At a quiet moment, I discovered some beautiful thoughts by an unknown author that I'd like to share with my loyal readers of the Warm Thoughts column."In this special moment in life...think freely, practice patience, smile often, savor special moments, make new friends, rediscover old ones. Tell those you love that you do. Feel deeply, forget trouble, forgive an enemy. Hope, grow, be happy and joyful. Count your blessings. Observe miracles, let them happen. Discard worry, give, give in, trust enough to take. Pick some flowers, share them. Keep a promise. Look for rainbows, gaze at the stars. See beauty everywhere. Work Hard, be wise, try to understand. Take time for people, make time for yourself. Laugh heartily, spread joy. Take a chance, reach out, let someone in. Try something new. Slow down, be soft sometimes. Believe in yourself. Trust others. See a sunrise, listen to rain. Reminisce, cry when you need to, trust life. Have faith, enjoy wonder, comfort a friend. Have good ideas. Make mistakes, learn from them. Celebrate life." Deploy Friday: hot topics for cloud technologists and developers
“97 Things Every Cloud Engineer Should Know” is a book of collected wisdom by cloud engineering experts. Our two guests today, Michelle Brenner and Dan Moore, both contributed chapters, and we speak with them about the book and the state of cloud engineering in 2021.What is cloud engineering? With most companies having at least part of their infrastructure in the cloud, some form of cloud engineering knowledge is necessary. Dan says, “I would say that a cloud engineer is someone who works in the cloud — public or private. Most people are cloud engineers nowadays, whether they want to be or not.”Michelle expands on this definition. “A cloud engineer is anyone who wants their application not on their computer and more widely available. Whether it's at a company internally or externally for the whole world to try, it's just kind of getting it out there and being more widely accessible.”Gain an edge with managed services Dan and Michelle are big proponents of managed services, that is outsourcing tasks to people who know how to solve a given problem better than you do. They acknowledge that it's a trade-off, but the reduced time-to-market and mental load can make it worthwhile.Dan says, “It's just so exciting to me, as a developer, to be able to let something that was previously a highly specialized job be taken care of by these specialists. I just don't have to worry about certain aspects and I can focus on building things that I only I could build.”Become a better engineerDan and Michelle come from different backgrounds and levels of experience, but they both have great advice for engineers. Try to have a:15-minute rule (or 30) — Both Dan and Michelle have a time limit when it comes to solving problems, and after it expires, seek help from someone else.Beginner's mindset — Learning how other people approach a problem can expand your perspective. A goal in mind — With so much technology out there, it's easy to get overwhelmed, especially as a newbie. To avoid this, Michelle suggests always having a specific goal in mind. Increased communication — “Communication is so much more important to becoming a better developer, programmer, or software engineer than I thought it was when I was just starting out,” says Dan.Get your copy of 97 Things Every Cloud Engineer Should Know to learn more about modern cloud engineering from the experts.Platform.shLearn more about us.Get started with a free trial.Have a question? When you're deciding what to wear in the morning, or on the viability of some activity for the weekend, you'll likely turn to a weather app to see what the forecast holds. My guest today would suggest supplementing that habit with another: actually going outside, looking at the sky and feeling the air in order to engage in an ancient and satisfying practice and build a more intimate relationship with the weather and the world around you. His name is Tristan Gooley and he's a master outdoorsman, expert natural navigator, and global adventurer, as well as the author of The Secret World of Weather: How to Read Signs in Every Cloud, Breeze, Hill, Street, Plant, Animal, and Dewdrop. Tristan and I begin our conversation with how modern meteorological science is incredibly useful, but has also disconnected us from the weather signs right in front of our faces, as well as the different microclimates that can exist even on two different sides of a tree. We then do a quick review of some of the basic scientific/meteorological principles that underlie understanding the weather, before turning to the concrete, research-backed, field-tested, signs you can observe in your environment to predict the weather, like the shape and height of clouds, and why you should check those clouds from lunchtime onward. We discuss whether there's truth to the old saying, "red sky at night, sailors' delight; red sky in morning, sailors take warning," and what changes in plants and the behavior of animals can tell you about the coming forecast, We end our conversation with how to get started today with predicting the weather using natural signs. Get the show notes at aom.is/weather. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
We turn to the TV meteorologist for the forecast, but if you miss the news you might try listening to the crickets or observing the birds. Explorer Tristan Gooley joins host Krys Boyd to talk about the subtle — and not so subtle — signs nature gives us to interpret the wind, rain, snow and sun. His book is called “The Secret World of Weather: How to Read Signs in Every Cloud, Breeze, Hill, Street, Plant, Animal, and Dewdrop.”
Tristan Gooley discusses ‘The Secret World of Weather: How to Read Signs in Every Cloud, Breeze, Hill, Street, Plant, Animal, and Dewdrop (The Experiment, May 25), a fascinating account of the many signs in nature that can help us understand and predict our local weather. Then our editors offer their reading recommendations for the week, with books by Julie Flett, S.K. Ali, and Alexandra Andrews.

The last ones collected were dehydrated. Works like a champ. Acorn saw one in the woods today but is was as dark as a pine cone, "Let is seed out for next year." Blind Hog needed to mow the yard, but the mower front wheels won't be delivered until Monday. Massey Ferguson and brush hog to the rescue. Acorn also used the push mower and string trimmer. Have to say, it looks not half bad.Blind Hog and Acorn has "interesting times" with car buying on Monday. 90 minutes of joy on the way home and then a deer stopped the happy campers.Heifer born this week, grass is growing, goslings and chicks co-mingling. Blind Hog and Acorn are still here, so all is good.

The old saying "every cloud has a silver lining" was never truer... An accountant and techie found themselves both out of work together while on the trip of a lifetime Here's what happened next In our interview with Greg and Fiona Scott, authors of Living A Laptop Lifestyle they share how a bombshell from Fiona's boss dropped on them in Bangkok on the last day of their vacation led to their journey into entrepreneurship and the world of the internet... one from which they don't ever figure on retiring from If you've ever dreamed of Living A Laptop Lifestyle and following a passion for working from anywhere then check out their story and listen to the golden nuggets https://vimeo.com/436015981 We forgot to ask them about working together but we recall in their book Fiona wondering whether despite being married for twenty-three years and travelled extensively together at the time of writing whether they would be able to work together... Well the proof of the pudding is definitely there to see as they have gone from strength to strength, fulfilled their dream of living and working together, travelling the world and running a business... And they qualify for our 50+ Entrepreneurs Club :-) We're blessed to have them as friends, travel companions and ski buddies and proof that anyone no matter their age or experience can overcome those challenges in life and make a success of the outcome They overcame the 'wild west' and cowboys of the internet (their description) to uncover a business model that helps others to reclaim their lives and find their true financial worth through making money online What took them many months of research, trial and error, persistence and perseverance means they are able to offer their clients the shortcuts to achieving their dreams They know like us that what makes them happy won't necessarily make another person happy but what they can do is give you a road map to your own adventure doing what makes you tick We loved reading their book and we know you will too : Living A Laptop Lifestyle It's a story but it's also a guide and as our good friend and mentor Daniel Priestley author of Key Person Of Influence says of the opportunity now presented to each and every one one us "I believe we're now living in an entrepreneur revolution. If you have a computer, a phone, and a passion, you're already standing on a mountain of value..." Enjoy listening and/or watching our interview with Greg and Fiona If you haven't yet downloaded our free book Living The Retirement Lifestyle - Your Secret To Living The Dream Lifestyle you can grab your copy here It's packed with ideas and a calculator so you can be better prepared for your retirement and take action now. Until next time...

Exploring COVID-19, Business & Women's Leadership, Janet Riopel joins us in The Inner Circle. It seems like we're living in our modern version of WW2; evidently, the COVID-19 crisis is very different but way maybe worse. The impact in the global economy has been astronomical in just a few weeks. Is there a silver lining? We need perspective on this and my guest today certainly provides it! She is the President and CEO of the EDMONTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. She has deep roots in our community and considerable experience in managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects. She is also the inspiring mom of two children and four amazing grandchildren. I have the utmost respect for this women, and I'm honored to call her my friend. Let's dive in. What You'll Hear in This Episode: 7:26 - We start with Janet's thoughts about the COVID-19 crisis. "Overwhelmed" was how she described it. Beginning with the pre-factors and how the crisis slowly grew. 10:33 - Janet answers from her business perspective, "How bad is COVID-19 hurting businesses around the world?". 13:25 - She also talks about which businesses are "immune" to the crisis, who are doing "fine" and which are just hanging by a thread. 16:46 - We discuss what other things could businesses do to survive, plus Janet shared fantastic advice and opportunities to take. Additionally, what will be the impact on stay-in-home businesses. 21:01 - If someone lost their job, and decided to follow a passion or dream - Is this the right moment? Janet gives us her point of view. 24:57 - She further answers another frightening question... "How bad is this (COVID-19 crisis) going to get?" 28:15 - Janet gives us a glimpse of how she entered the business world and how she was able to climb so quickly. 31:20 - She also talks about Women's Leadership and "seeing herself as a woman in business." The challenges, the value of being a female, the skillset and things she did to set herself apart. 40:07 - There are a lot of mistakes women make when looking for leadership roles or climbing the ladder. Janet provides us with exceptional advice, and what is the worst thing to do. 49:50 - Finally, Janet shares with us the #1 thing that she has learned throughout all these years. Quotes: "It seems like this pandemic is very similar to those times right now." "They are trying really hard to maintain some sense of stability or control and calm, in a very chaotic atmosphere." "Nobody thinks this is going to happen." "Businesses are just looking for help." "You spend a lot of time with the people you work with, those people are your family, and you wanna make sure that they are whole." "Take advantage --of the free knowledge-- of that, if there's some time to sit back and think, it's a luxury." "Look at these times as times that you have to be very conscious of how you conduct yourself and what you do, to try to give back to your community. It will matter to you." "I would just run right after it ...I could jump in that hole, and somehow someone would reach out." "Women often have to do the job well before they are recognized for doing the job." "Get involved in clubs cause they make everything more meaningful for you." "If this is my last career stop, ...I'll tell you I really feel like I made a difference in this world." As human activity and emissions continue to change the types of particles in the air, there is consequently a change in the particles that act as cloud precursors in our atmosphere. Some of these precursors generally create liquid clouds, or cloud droplets, and others create ice crystals, or frozen clouds. So why do these changes matter? Liquid clouds play an important role in offsetting a lot of the warming affects caused by greenhouse gases, whereas frozen clouds actually warm the planet. In other words, the way our activities change the air subsequently changes the clouds, which in turn affects global climate. In this episode, Ryan Sullivan, Ph.D., joins us to discuss the relationship of cloud chemistry and climate change. Click play to hear more. Sullivan is an atmospheric chemist, associate professor in chemistry and in mechanical engineering, and associate director of the Institute for Green Science at Carnegie Mellon University. Keep an eye out in a month or two for his website to launch. We have all heard the phrase 'every cloud has a silver lining' representing an attitude of finding the positive in any situation—no matter how challenging it might be. It’s more than just believing that good things are to come—it’s an understanding that every negative is actually a positive, depending on how you choose to perceive it. @iamrebeccanealewww.rebeccaneale.com.au

In every one of life’s trials, we have the opportunity to view everything that happens through the lens of a belief in a sovereign and loving God, or through our own human perspective. No matter what particular issue scares you or worries you the most, the challenge is the same: how to trust God and effectively receive His supernatural peace and contentment in any type of hardship or struggle. Temptations are Satan’s counterfeits of God’s promises. But in either case — temptation or promise — we don’t experience the ultimate outcome until we’ve actually committed the act.

The fact they are both from Australia has nothing to do with how Alix Nardella, our guest today, feels for Mr. Black. Her first love may have been whisky but now she only has eyes for this smooth and sexy coffee liqueur. Download the audio Born in 2012, Mr. Black is the love child of Tom Baker and Philip Moore. After tinkering for nine months, they came upon the perfect combination of coffee beans to produce their sublime elixir, immediately winning a gold medal from London International Wine and Spirits that year. Alix has been winning awards as well, coming second in The Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind competition before joining Mr. Black. After traveling the world, lucky for us, she settled in London and is set on teaching us all that there is more to a coffee drink than the White Russian and the Espresso Martini. (no matter how good they both are!) She even converted me to the wonders of the Negroni, which I am not a big fan of, after making me one of her creations, simply called the Coffee Negroni, which she made for me at Every Cloud in Hackney. Check her out here on our YouTube channel: Mixology in a Minute Next week, we travel back in time to the Roaring Twenties, when London’s Theatre District was the place to be. In Genesis chap.9 God made an everlasting covenant with Noah and all future generations. How exciting it still is to see a rainbow!
