This week on the podcast we talk about leprosy and how we approach those who are suffering from health issues. This is a huge issue right now, how do we care for others? The instructions of the Old Testament were not to exclude people from being served with love, Jesus fulfilled the law and he served the lepers and healed them. Sometimes we take rules that "protect us" and block the self sacrificing service that we are called to live. Be not afraid
This week's podcast we discuss King David's desire to give to the Lord. The desire to give to the Lord is good. This interaction with King David and the Lord shows us that the Lord wants to give us more than we can imagine when we desire to give of ourselves for His glory. This culminates in the great fiat of Mary. Her desire to be the handmaid of the Lord is returned in her role as Mother of the Savior and the Queen of Heaven.
This week on the podcast we talk about how Isaiah called for the proclamation of the "good news" in earnest. In his time and in the fulfillment of Christ, we are to proclaim the Gospel of our Salvation. St Peter reminds us that the judgement is coming, we need to be prepared because we do not know when. Each generation has had signs to encourage us to turn to Christ before it is too late. Christ desires for all to repent, and we should be praying for that to fulfill the desires of God. Fr Ian announced that we have a new platform for Catholics to converse outside of the normal Social Media sphere. HealthyMinds is a community platform you can join and it functions similar to social media but without the ads and the drama. We are hosting an Advent Meditations Group on that platform that contains daily meditations on the Mass readings and a very short video for more understanding and ideas to contemplate. Come join us! https://healthyminds.webflow.io
This week on the podcast we talk about how God gave power and authority to King Cyrus, even though he was a Gentile. Through Cyrus the Isrealites were able to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. God was able to use Cyrus as a tool, even though he was not the tool that was preferred or expected. In our lives it is good to contemplate how God is using imperfect people, maybe even strange authority, to bring about His will.
This week we talk about the raw reality that the Prophet Jeremiah expresses in the reading. Being a faithful servant to the Lord is extremely difficult. It always has been. We won't always understand what God is doing, when we are confused we might even try to go against His will. Discernment and prayer for God's will even in confusion is necessary
This week on the Podcast we talk about the authority given to flawed humans by God. How abusing that Authority will bring punishment upon yourself and the people you lead. The other side is to remember the humanity of the authority, and understand the requirement to charitably follow the lead. As long as that lead is not sinful. God has a plan in the midst of corruption.
In the readings this week we encounter the Prophet Jeremiah and his inner battle. He is tempted to denounce the Lord, he is also being watched by his friends for any misstep to trap him in. These inner temptations of Jeremiah are the real temptations of our culture at the moment. We are reminded in that moment to trust in the Lord. Jesus in the Gospel says to "Fear no one." We are called to live in the midst of the chaos in the trust of Christ.
We are being tested during this time of crisis. God is looking to see if you remember that He provides for you. He will guide you and provide for you. We are being allowed to feel the hunger for the Body and Blood of Christ, how are we to respond to the invitation back to Mass? This is a time of conversion, healing, and trust.
Our world is in chaos, and we are in need of hope. Conversion of heart to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and reception of the Sacraments and living a moral life is the only way forward. What a controversial statement. We believe that Christ is the Way. Christ told us Himself, He is the Way. When will we start actually living the Gospel? When we live the Gospel we will love God and love neighbour. Chaos cannot thrive in a relationship of virtue in love. Each of us needs to grow in continuous conversion and renewal of heart. Then we will see the change that we long for.
This week on the podcast we talk about the Gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit and how we can identify and use them during this difficult time. We also talk about the Peace Christ gives us in the upper room to anticipate all of these gifts and be ableto work as one. We are called to live in the peace of Christ, and from this place of peace the gifts we are given can bear fruit.--
Welcome back to the podcast! Congratulations to Alanna for finishing her Masters! Our topic this week is leadership, and how we can find the points needed from the scriptures this week. We have to understand that there are multiple levels of leadership like the apostles found out and ordained the Deacons. We talk about the reality if being connected in Christ, even when we are at home and the grace from the Mass still reaches us. And we talk about how important it is to believe that we can do great things through the grace of Christ.
During this time of COVID19 we have to be careful with our fear. The cure cannot be worse than the disease. How do you develop strategies to live a healthy balanced life in the midst of the shutdown. Monastic rule is so important to learn in this time. We are to KNOW that Christ is the LORD.#Lent #LentCOVID19 #Catholic
This week on the podcast we talk about how Moses was able to be real with God. He prayed in a way that showed his frustration with the people of Israel. The people knew what they needed but they didn't ask God for it. In the Gospel we talk about the woman at the well, who didn't know to ask Christ for water, but he revealed what she needed and she asked. The Lord is so gentle with us when we are receptive to His mercy. He reveals the well in our hearts that is the spring of water welling up to eternal life.
On this second Sunday in lent we talk about aversion to climbing the mountain. When we make it to the top, we also don't want to leave. We don't like the cross, nor do we like the climb of exercising virtue to get up the mountain. We are to go as the Lord directs us, as Abram did when he leaves his father and follows the Lord. If the Lord is calling you, GO! Obedience to the Lord comes up a lot especially in Lent.
This week on the Podcast we talk about temptations. Specifically the first temptation of Adam and Eve and the temptations of Christ in the desert. Most of our sins fall into the three categories of sin, our base passions, our vanity and our pride. We discuss fasting and finding the sweet spot of suffering where growth is possible. In our temptations they will look like the gifts that God has given us, the other trees were good for food and beautiful to look at, the lack of obedience and taking something that has not been offered is where we go wrong.
This week we talk about how to respond to division in the Church. Do not let others action drag you into sin. Focus on contemplation, be prepared even for distractions, so you will not be disturbed in those moments. When you have control over your own passions and emotions you can have a positive effect on those around you without being controlling. Be holy as the LORD is holy, then you will be able to love your neighbor as yourself.#Catholicpodcast #Catholic #SundayReadings
This weeks podcast we talk about the "proto" beatitudes of Isaiah. How we are called to serve and feed the poor. We are called to purge ourselves of our maliciousness and serve the poor, then we will be light in the darkness. In the second reading we talk about the power of the gospel on its own, no matter our weakness. In the gospel we talk about how we are called to be salt, and we are called to be light.
This week we talk a lot about the people you will find in the church. Those who withstand the refiners fire that is parish life, who wait on the Lord. In the second reading we talk about how Christ suffered and we can find Him in our sufferings. After the Gospel we talk about how there are labels that are self placed or placed by others in the Church and we need to see through them to the actual person and be able to love the person. We can, and are commanded to, love people that we don't agree with. There is a lot of healing to do in Church culture and serving, others who we disagree with will go a long way towards that healing.
This week we talk about the hope that can be found in desolation. When we are dealing with the mundane and the everyday-ness of life we can tend to lose our drive and excitement in our mission. When we have patience in the desolation and seek to be in a continuous state of grace we can be fruitful even through our times of desolation. Christ is the light and we are called to bear Him to the nations.
This week we talk about The prophesy of Isaiah that can be looked at in three different ways. First and foremost, Christ is the fulfillment of this prophesy. Second, St John the Baptist is God's servant and draws the people out into the wilderness seeking repentance and restoration. Third we are also called to be the light to the nations and to bring salvation to the ends of the earth. Again we discuss the need for us to decrease so Christ can increase in our lives. We talk a lot about how we arent always the hero of our own story, we are sometimes a supporting actor. The roles that we play in teamwork most likely are supporting roles and it is a place to have joy in humility.
This week on the Podcast we talk about the prophecy of the baptism and the fulfilment in Christ. We really go into our response to holiness. In maturity we are able to rejoice in the gifts of others, not tear them down in jealousy or envy. We talk about how John recognised his role and questioned his worthiness to complete it. It was allowed for the fulfilment of scripture. We also talk about attitudes in which we question God in our confusion or misunderstanding, John does not fall into the same sin as his father.
After a few weeks with technical issues, we are back! We have actual bingo cards being created to play during the show. If you have common words or phrases you think we should have on the cards let us know, and if you want a bingo card, email us at Liturgylive@gmail.com. This week we talk about many different topics. It all comes down to the signs given to us and obedience to God's commands. We are all called to perfection and not to be afraid of the plans God has for us. St Joseph hears the commands and follows them, St Paul calls for us to receive the grace given to call others to the obedience of faith.
This week on the podcast we talk about the spiritual leadership of David. How David waited for so long, already anointed, and still mourned the death of King Saul even though they were enemies. This really spoke to us about holding the office in respect even if we know that the leadership is not perfect. The anointed of God still should be respected and mourned. It is a perspective that is lacking in today's culture. In the second reading we talk about how Paul points out Christ as the king of everything created, the levels of angels that are bad and good are subject to Him. We discuss the paradox of Christ's Justice and Mercy and how we should hold them together. We also focus on the correct interpretation of what Mercy really is verses the illusion of compassion. In the Gospel we talk about contemplating the sufferings of Christ and how they are the beatific vision.
This week on the Podcast we continue to talk about the last things. In the first reading we talk about Prophet Malachi and how his book condemns the offensive defiled sacrifices made in the temple since the return from exile. Malachi prophesies the destruction of the evil ones. In the second reading we talk about how St Paul exhorts us to work hard even if we think it is the end times. We need to keep from the idleness that brings about sin. In the Gospel we talk about the destruction of the temple in 70AD and how we are all called to be prepared for the end times in our day as well. Jesus tells us not to be terrified and persevere in order to save our lives, our spiritual lives.
This week on the podcast, we talk about the hope of the coming Resurrection through Christ. The first reading shows the seven sons suffering for their faith in front of their mother, who encouraged them to stand firm. Their witness, belief in the resurrection of the dead, and a life to come is an example of courageous faith. The blood of the Martyr is the seed of the church. We then go into talking about thinking in a meta context, and how to go about contemplation healthily. We talk about how a deeper reflection of the right way and wrong way to contemplate is needed.
This week we really dive deep into the beginning of the first reading. How the whole universe is a grain from the balance. How small we are in the relation to everything, yet how much God loves each and every one of us. We talk about thinking about God and thinking about thinking about God. We get a little meta. It goes into the experience of how to pray and how to slow down and think about life and how to make choices. In the second reading we talk about the warning from St Paul not to despair over those who cry out that the second coming is near. Do not be shaken, tend to the battle that is before you and do not sin. We didn't make it to the gospel this week, we spent our time on the first readings.
This week on the podcast we talk about the struggles of moving through the spiritual levels. One of the temptations of conquering your sins is to become judgmental of the process of others. We talk about having to be very aware of what is hurting us in sin to be able to fight it. How do we walk the line of proclaiming God's work in our lives and also not becoming prideful in that work. We talk about how hard it is to share successes with friends, but it is easy to find friends who will join us to complain about our struggles.
This week on the podcast we talk about the necessity of both the active and contemplative life. Moses holds his hands up for the success of those fighting the troops of Amelek, there are 2 groups in this situation, the contemplative prayer needed for success and the active fighters also needed for the same success. We talk about personal experience with prayer. In the second reading we talk about how we are charged with the mission to proclaim the gospel, teach and encourage those around us, which is only possible when we are connected to God with perseverance in prayer. In the Gospel we talk about how the unjust judge knew that he was breaking the great commandments, but was able to conclude that he should be good to the widow due to her perseverance. How much more will God who loves us perfectly, hear us and respond to our persistent prayer.
This week on the podcast we talk about the O word, yes the word that sends some into a fit of rage. Obedience. Our culture is a culture of disobedience, it is expected and sometimes even revered as some sort of secular virtue. This weeks readings go into having to be obedient to the Word in order to be healed, and then return in thanksgiving in order to be saved. Christ has the ability to heal us, but we have to be faithful and not walk away from Him in our restored state.
This week on the podcast we talk about the need for increase of faith. In the first reading we hear the cry of the Prophet Habakkuk that is also echoed in Psalm 13. This cry is followed by the response of the Lord to be patient and have hope for the coming fulfilment. In the second reading we talk about the gifts given through the Sacrament of Holy Orders of power, love, and self control. In the Gospel we talk about the request for the increase of faith and the requirements of service that will come with that increase.
This week on the podcast we talk about needing to be present to the poor. In the first reading we talk about how the Prophet Amos was talking about the leaders in the temple were abusing the items meant for serving God and set aside for His worship. It shows that they are unable to see the sign of the times because they will go into exile first. In the second reading we talk about how St Paul gives us the goals to strive for in a mirror image from the sins of the first reading. We should be striving for sanctification. In the Gospel we talk about serving the poor and being able to actually see the poor around us while being in such a comfortable culture. There is different ways to serve and love those who are in poverty and we should be seeking those out in our lives.
This week on the podcast we talk about God's forgiveness and his rejoicing at our return to Him. In the first reading we revisit the story of Moses coming down the mountain and finding the people worshipping the golden calf. He reminds God of his promise to the Patriarchs to deliver them to the land that was promised. We talk about the hierarchy of sins, and how our culture would have a different one than the biblical understanding of the worst sins. In the second reading we talk about St Paul's witness in his own ministry and weaknesses that Christ could be strong in. We talk about His patience in our growth. Fr Ian goes in to deep territory when he talks about how different older priests treat younger priest, especially when they are perceived as rigid or conservative. In the Gospel we talk about the three parables of the lost sheep, the coin, and the prodigal son. At the end of the conversation Alanna makes the connection that the younger son is the sheep, and the older son is the coin. They were both lost, but the older son was lost in the house.
In this weeks podcast we talk about Humility and the connection with generosity. In the first reading we talk about the need to be humble in order to find mercy with God, and the almsgiving that atones for sins. In the second reading, Alanna says Sion but she means Sinai. We are able to approach God in the new covenant in a way that was not possible in the old covenant. We talk about how uncomfortable it is that God humbles himself so much in the Eucharist, especially allowing himself to be abused in the reception of Himself unworthily. We talk about the power of Christ in the Eucharist no matter the setting you receive Him in. In the Gospel we talk about striving towards a positive goal, humility and generosity for the service of God but also for the future in the resurrection.
This week on the podcast we talk about Isaiah sharing with the tribe of Judah what their mission is in exile. While veiled, they are being sent to all the ends of the earth to share their faith and prepare the way so that the Gentiles can recognise Christ when he comes. In the second reading we talk about being disciplined in the faith in order to persevere. In the Gospel we talk about how we will only be strong enough to enter the narrow gate if we are disciplined in the faith and against sin.
This week on the podcast we talk about leadership that is inconsistent in their decision making. The king showed no real backbone and changed his actions based on who was causing problems for him. This is not what real leadership looks like, we are called to look at this and recognize the failings of weak leaders. In the second reading we talk about needing to be strong in the faith, no waffling and leadership weakness will endure the race. In the Gospel we talk about how we are divided in accepting the peace of Christ, not by countries, but in extremely intimate relationships. We are even at times divided in our own selves between "who I was" and "who I am" after a conversion or a vocation adjustment. Integrating the love and peace of Christ fully into yourself is needed for the next phase of growth in the spiritual life.
