An episode hypothesizing taking a look at the SCP universe and how it could be applied to the Tau.
One way or another you eventually have to acknowledge the mecha element that the Tau have been leaning toward since their beginning. We cover the three storey tall, first big mecha for the Tau, the Riptide along with its two variants and Calmsword's own assertion that the Riptide's most powerful weapon might actually be one that you don't immediatly see on the unit. This is an episode that got away from me and I apologize, I've been trying to get back into the saddle and I went off the rails. There will be a follow up bonus episode that covers the different patterns of XV-8 that will follow this one. Check out the Fist of Mont'ka painting competition! Please be sure to support and join on the Discord for the many events we're hosting this Sept'ember!
Kicking of Sept'ember with some thoughts on Canonicity and how we as a community can come together when there's a shortage of Lore. Calmsword also talks a little bit about the Exodite that was. Fist of Mont'ka competition: https://fistofmontka.gumroad.com/l/jwntvj
NOTE: Since the broadcast of this episode you can now find the Shape's and Neoteric Miniatures available here: https://printedwargames.com/partner/neoteric-miniatures/ Another exciting creator and 3d Print artist explores a new mecha range that you can use in your proxies on the tabletop or just for something cool on your workbench. His name has been coming up a lot as of late and one of the more common questions that comes up is "Why the hate?". To be clear, it's our hope that everyone enjoys the Warhammer 40,000 hobby and by no means are we advocating that anyone not read the many books and short stories written by Phil Kelly. But, since there are so many contradictions, it's probably good that we address what the hubbub is about. Here is the Reddit post in question: https://www.reddit.com/r/Tau40K/comments/12uqzom/do_you_like_the_direction_that_phil_kelly_is/ Transcripts Now Provided on the Discord: https://discord.gg/K7pRQWWdvG

Sometimes you just want to sit around and yab about all things Tau and where we're going with this Arks of Omen Farsight business. A little bit of a random episode but with it we are happy to announce that the Tau 40.000 Discord community is launching its very own blog called the Tau NewsCaste! https://taunewscaste.blogspot.com/ Here we'll be doing community articles as well as followups on the PodCaste episodes, tacticas, insights into lore as well as painting and converting approaches and just about anything that has to do with Tau. Give it a follow!
A new season! It's been a bit but it looks like things are warming up again on the lore front with releases for Wrath and Glory covering our favorite xenos. This episode was inspired by conversations about how Tau view the state of affairs in the different ages (Spheres of expansion).
We have a discussion regarding what would happen if the Tau were actually invaded by the Imperium. Enjoy this bonus episode.
Always a complicated subject but let's begin to tackle how the Kelly and the rest of the Tau lore don't really work. We also look at the past and the confusing nature of how Kelly goes back and forth between concepts like Vash'ya or how everyone is named Kais. This is not a bash, it is trying to understand how we, as a community, can introduce all the lore to newcomers and explain how you have to work a little harder because it's not a single straight line but two parallel ones. Some reading material to early Kelly writing: https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Por%27la_Vior%27la_Kais%27uam You're always welcome to join the conversation on the Tau discord: https://discord.gg/K7pRQWWdvG
An exciting new episode about some of the speculation around the new Kroot details we're getting out of the Kasrkin book by Edoardo Albert (very lite on Tau stuff if you're looking) as well as the kill team release.
Our own The1stMusket reviews the codex and Calmsword reads (despite frog in his throat). We go over the lore implications now that it's in our hands and how it relates to the Tau. There might be some repeats as we lost this episode due to a power outage. Enjoy! https://discord.gg/K7pRQWWdvG
Redrix takes us on a journey through the history of the Tau Battlesuit having freshly returned from tourney. He discusses the process of new technologies and how they are given to heroes of the Commonwealth like Shadowsun and Longstrike (yes, Longstrike has a battlesuit). A fascinating discussion kicks off with a lot of speculation about 30min in. Enjoy! And if you ever want to jump in, remember to join our discord: https://discord.gg/K7pRQWWdvG
Welcome to Season 3 of Pod Caste! Our newest episode is also a return to more regular uploads. We'll go over a history of who the Squats and the Demiurg were and a little speculation on what the Votann might be. The Tau 40.000 discord has grown exponentially. ADDENDUM: This sometimes happens... But I totally forgot the Cyclic Ion Blaster. Since the recording of this episode, "Commander Darkfrost" from our community on Discord helped me remember. Thank you Darkfrost! This is a recovered episode after the quality of the larger discussion got nixxed (we're still working on how to fix it). We discuss the origins of some of the Tau's most foundational tech; Gravitic and railgun technology and how it evolved over the different spheres. We'll also talk about Ion tech and its origins and plasma/pulse weaponry which is hypothesized to be a derivative of gravitic tech. This is going to be a multi-parter as well since the original conversation lasted a whopping 3 hours. So sit back, and enjoy. Tau Pulse technology understanding amongst many in the community: https://www.eastern-empire.com/tau-fiction-pulse-weapon-theory/ And the white dwarf that much of this technology was fist mentioned was WD262 Join us here on discord: https://discord.gg/WbQ9s7PX8N
A new and exciting year brings us to the topic of Tau warcrimes (or, a normal 'wednesday' for the rest of the 40k factions) here's some events that you can succinctly point at and say "see, they're as bad as ___". Discord Community Link https://discord.gg/WbQ9s7PX8N
A shorter episode in which we explore some of the client and member species of the Commonwealth. Remember to follow and add and if you'd ever like to join the fantastic community at Tau 40.000: https://discord.gg/ywhSyjZd
Calmsword tries... and mostly fails, at being spooky this halloween when he talks about how the Greater Good has the possibility of bringing the entire Imperium to its knees!
This is a big one. We talk about Tau relationships, Tau sexuality and how the Tau raise their children. Using what little available books on the subject, it quickly becomes hypothetical but it makes for a very interesting show. Please caution, we do talk about topics that are highly opinionated and can be divisive. We try to be respectful and open, but please, if this subject isn't your cup of tea- come back soon. Enjoy! And please join us on the Tau 40.000 Discord: https://discord.gg/ADBY2uHr And now on Facebook where we'll have articles and reposts of cool stuff in the community: https://www.facebook.com/Pod-Caste-102056038869909
Genestealers are hyper predators in the universe of Warhammer 40,000 but they have trouble infiltrating Tau communities. We go over Genestealers (with a newbie mistake on my part- I confused the generations of infected- my bad!) and their infection cycle as well as how the Tau have successfully countered it while hypothesizing how they might actually be completely out of their league as the Tyranids adapt. Enjoy! And please join us on the Tau 40.000 Discord: https://discord.gg/ADBY2uHr And now on Facebook where we'll have articles and reposts of cool stuff in the community: https://www.facebook.com/Pod-Caste-102056038869909
A fascinating episode where our in-house biologist, Redrix, takes a look at evolutionary tracks and possibilities. This is a perfect example of how we want to continue with Podcaste and Project Tau. Enjoy a listen! Join our affiliated Discord: https://discord.gg/ut8ZbCW7
Welcome to season 2! We'll be trying something new this season with half an episode for lore as well as hypotheticals. For this one we talk about Drones and Artificial Intelligence within Tau society and how it could differ from human or eldar equivalents. Perhaps this new AI will form a unique bond with the Tau, going in the opposite direction of most other Sci Fi and rebel. Join us as we discuss. And remember, if you would ever like to join us, please come to the Tau 40.000 server: https://discord.gg/N5SQrEzd
This is our first season in the bag! Thank you so much for listening and supporting. We're all very excited to kick off the episodes that will cover Commander Shadowsun. Much like Farsight, we delve deep into old lore and try to see how it aligns with new lore. It is our hope... well, it's Calmsword's hope, that you fall in love with this unique and special character of the Warhammer 40k universe as much as he has. Additionally, we would like to officially invite you to our new affiliated Discord Server: Tau 40.000 https://discord.gg/GnJjmMw4 Where we have regular lore discussions and share our love for the hobby every Saturday at 12PM Eastern Time.
It was inevitable... We tackle the canonical consistencies and hypothetical circumstances that would be required to have Tau Space Marines. It starts off a little hectic, but, we're all friends. Enjoy! Artwork attributed to: ukitakumuki https://www.deviantart.com/ukitakumuki/art/Hammerhead-Down-40K-315545763?moodonly=1
In this mini-episode, Kain our host, discusses the tricky problem with Tau faster then light travel. With an empire in a stellar cloud about 300 lights years in diameter and the vastness of the Damocles Gulf to the corward side of their Commonwealth, they need faster then light travel to have a realistic chance of existing in 40k. In the beginning there was the Gravitic "Ether" Drive in which the Tau would 'skip' across the warp. This allowed them a 1/3 speed of an optimal operating Imperial drive (without the perils of the warp aspect and entirely reliable, unlike human's own warp engine). Then there was a retcon where they were given close-to-lightspeed capabilities. Finally, they're opening wormholes to new parts of the Galaxy. We'll do our best to straighten it out for you. Enjoy!
This is a debate style episode where our community at Tau 40.000, https://discord.gg/4fyJjsPX, discuss Farsight and our opinions on the big red commander. Enjoy!
Our exciting conclusion to the research done into Commander Farsight (definitely not going to be the last). Something to consider as you listen: Each must find their own way. If those in our heartland had witnessed the savageries of the void as have we they would know this. The hand of each of the starfarers is turned against the other; none will join their strength together just to see their ancient enemies prosper. Neither should we. - attributed, 765.M41
Welcome! This is a new type of episode that we're generating by tackling singular topics for a quick informative session that can be listened to in between our longer discussions. For this one, we discuss what a Sept is (since there's a little confusion even canonically). We draw from the following sources: -Battlefleet Gothic: Armada -The Eye of Terror Worldwide Campaign booklet -Codex Tau -Codex Tau Empire (4th Edition)
We're very excited to bring up Farsight with the group. Calmsword started off extremely skeptical of the big red Shas'O and, by the end of this series, he kind of becomes my favorite in terms of the narrative created over the last twenty years. In this episode we discuss his early years, and, what lead him to be chosen to launch the reclamation for the Commonwealth after the Damocles Crusade. Enjoy!
The Imperial Crusade pulls back from Dal'yth, forced into a rare ceasefire with an alien race. Farsight rises to prominence, leading the largest reclamation force the Empire has ever mustered while Gue'vesa flood into the Septs. It's a great episode to start warming up to more 'modern' Tau. We also discuss this article about Gue'vesa from their creator, Andy Hoare: http://web.archive.org/web/20080420071331/http://uk.games-workshop.com/tau/tau-auxiliaries/ Enjoy!
We're in the midst of figuring out how best to record people on three different continents and apparently we sound like we were all huffing helium. So this is the new version- with suitably deep baritone voices for the participants. We tackle the Second Sphere and its conclusion during the Damocles Crusade, also called the "Lithesh War", and setup that fan favorite Shas'O Farsight Shovah for the next episode for his reclamation of those worlds lost to the Imperials. Enjoy!
This is a longer one so, perfect for getting some painting done. This week we get start getting into more detailed historical events for the Tau. From the chaotic and volatile age of war known as the Mont'au and those early formative years where the Tau coalesced into a vibrant nation state that took to the stars, to those first wars against the Orks and the Nicassar. The Tau, with the guidance of the Ethereals, realize their place in the universe; as unifiers. Perhaps this is hubris, or the audacity of hope, or the natural psychological conclusion for a race that seems to have begun their evolution as ungulate plains dwellers, either way, these are the golden years for the Tau. Enjoy!
Welcome to our first official episode! We're going to dive into who the Tau are, what they're early history might have been like and have a general discussion after Calmsword gives a Ted Talk (Tau Talk) style introduction. This pod cast is in no way affiliated with Games Workshop and is the work of a community of enthusiasts who have come together to celebrate their love of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Enjoy!
Still finding our stride, but we've figured out some of the recording issues and we'll have a more organized discussion. Calmsword will introduce topics and information which guests will respond to and speculate on. This is the final test! We're all looking forward to Episode 1 In the discussion we cover a few things you can see here: Excerpt form Broken Sword about the Nagi: https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/8110dt/book_excerptbroken_sword_tau_interrogators/ Loxatl: https://www.google.com/search?q=loxatl+40k&sxsrf=ALeKk025_Nlub-roDFvHyuBgRy8klM9dEw:1617345917670&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjk4JqH-97vAhWRcc0KHeSICfQQ_AUoAnoECAEQBA&biw=1412&bih=730#imgrc=CtRhJ-n6YFbjXM Tarrellians https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Tarellians Correction: Calmsword stated "We are the Nagi which none can stand against" this is actually: "whom none can defy" He grew up with a lot of Dune and Star Wars, what can we say.
The following is the final test before Pod Caste takes off. This is a recounting of the conversation that took place on the Tau 40.000 Discord server. Unfortunately the original files were corrupted. I discuss the Vespid, Nicassar and humanity within the Tau empire, using my notes taken from the conversation and expanding on it with canonical lore as well as some hypotheticals.
This is a test that was made on March 13th 2021. We discuss general aspects of the Tau including their place of origin, a little bit about the Enclaves and the aftermath of the Damocles Gulf. During the discussion we mention a Farsight Quote which is my favorite: Each must find their own way. If those in our heartland had witnessed the savageries of the void as have we they would know this. The hand of each of the starfarers is turned against the other; none will join their strength together just to see their ancient enemies prosper. Neither should we. - attributed, 765.M41
Shas'Ui Kamino Re'lay brought up a fascinating What if? To our What if? Episode about Shadowsun. Calmsword muses about what could have been and what if Aun'va, that old dog, had been right all along. Hope you enjoy this supplemental episode. Additionally, we're trying something new by asking listeners for $1 a month to access previous episodes. The new ones will be free but as we continue it'll shift over to the subscription. Proceeds will go to maintaining equipment and websites. Thanks!
What If? Is always a great scenario to play with and as we continue forward with Tau lore we'd like to examine what would happen if Shadowsun had taken Farsight's place during the Reclamation after the first Damocles Gulf Crusade. This scenario happened after some intense back and forth on Discord, which as ever, you are invited to: https://discord.gg/K7pRQWWdvG Hope you can join the conversation there!
