On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I sit down with Dr. John Gildea—a pioneering researcher on gut health, soil and healing. Our conversation goes deeper than science, tracing Dr. Gildea's unlikely journey from the lab at the University of Virginia to becoming an integral voice in the movement to restore health through soil-based nutrition. Dr. Gildea shares how his partnership with Dr. Zach Bush set him on the path to groundbreaking discoveries in gut health. Together, we discuss the debilitating personal battle I faced with gut issues for over a decade, and how his research and soil-derived formula became the catalyst for my healing—a story echoed by countless others. Throughout the episode, we unpack the science behind gut barriers, explain how environmental toxins like glyphosate disrupt our health, and reveal why reconnecting to nature's intelligence can help the body heal itself from the inside out. Dr. Gildea demystifies the complex processes at play, explaining the pivotal role of NRF2 and the remarkable results he's witnessed firsthand—even in the most challenging cases. Whether you're struggling with chronic gut issues, curious about the root causes of inflammation, or seeking hope for true health, this conversation is a testament to breakthrough science and the power of nature's solutions. Can transcendence still make philosophical sense after modernity? John Vervaeke speaks with philosopher William Desmond about Platonism as a living tradition, the meaning of strong transcendence, and Desmond's philosophy of the metaxu: the between. The conversation builds from John's proposal that relevance realization and transjectivity are philosophically grounded in Desmond's ontological account of the between. John begins by distinguishing modern psychological accounts of transcendence from the ancient and Platonic sense of strong transcendence. In this stronger sense, transcendence is not merely a better state of mind. It discloses truths that are otherwise unavailable and changes the knower's relation to reality. That claim challenges modern assumptions about flat ontology, the buffered self, representational cognition, and the fact-value split. Desmond responds through Plato. He presents Plato not as a dry theorist of two worlds, but as a philosophical artist of the between: a thinker of mimesis, eros, mania, dialogue, singularity, and participatory transformation. Plato's dialogues are not ornamental containers for arguments; their drama, characters, and dialogical movement are part of the philosophy itself. The later conversation opens into deep memory, imagination, eternity, possibility, God, Daoism, intercultural philosophy, pilgrimage, and the life-world. Desmond and Vervaeke converge on the need to move beyond the view from nowhere and return philosophy to transformative practice, embodied dwelling, and a richer contact with the sources of intelligibility. Key Insights Strong transcendence has epistemological and ontological significance, not only psychological benefit. The metaxu, or between, names a porous relation before, beneath, between, and beyond modern dichotomies. Modernity's fact-value split risks producing default atheism or default nihilism. Participatory knowing offers an alternative to treating cognition as internal representation of an external world. Plato's dialogical form is integral to his philosophy; the drama cannot simply be stripped away to extract arguments. Mimesis involves relation between image and original without collapsing their difference. Eros and mania point to two directions of transcendence: from below upward and from above downward. Deep memory is a source of imagination and ontological depth, not merely storage of past facts. Possibility should not be reduced to logical possibility; living possibility points toward enabling power. Pilgrimage and theoria are linked: philosophical transformation requires being on the way, not merely observing from nowhere. Episode Title Underdogz of Sports Media Episode Summary In this Brand Retro Vault Series ("Lost Episode"), Mike Brevik sits down with Dave Behar, founder of ION Network, to explore how the world of sports media is evolving far beyond traditional leagues and broadcast models. Dave shares how ION Network is building a multi-platform ecosystem designed to support emerging sports leagues, niche athletic communities, and content creators who are often overlooked by mainstream media. By combining localized media channels, digital platforms, and brand partnerships, ION is creating new opportunities for sports organizations to grow their audiences and monetize their content. Throughout the conversation, Mike and Dave discuss the importance of brand alignment, authentic audience engagement, and why understanding the "ingredients" of a brand's identity is essential when building long-term partnerships. They also explore the evolving role of AI, digital platforms, and social media in modern media distribution—and why authenticity and integrity remain critical in an increasingly automated world. This episode offers a behind-the-scenes look at the future of sports media, where local communities, niche audiences, and authentic storytelling are becoming just as powerful as the major leagues themselves.
The recent surge of Christianity has been heavily influenced by vocal Catholics, or at least those who give them the platforms to speak. This includes Candace Owens, Tucker, Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Nick Fuentes, etc. It has also been influenced by is Israel propaganda in making a link between Jesus and the modern state of Israel. The First Amendment guarantees religious freedom from both restriction and force. It applies to atheists as much as it applies to Islam and general Christianity, including Catholicism. The question is, are Christians in general willing to allow their faith to be mocked because of Jewish propaganda; are Christians willing to allow Catholics to be targeted by people like Douglas Wilson, and Pete Hegseth, in the name of the defeating antisemitism or religious competition? The same goes for free speech. Are we willing to tolerate mockery and restriction of both religion and speech for the benefit of one group or another? Are we really unable to see that lowering a group from the position of superiority that they placed themselves in, and treating them not with special privileges but with blind equality, is not hateful or antisemitic? On the other hand, are we really unable to see that people who elevate themselves over others in these ways are really anything but human. Ion their attempt to appear morally and spiritually superior, they belittle the rest of humanity, proving that they are not superior or equal; they are inferior because they are a threat to civilization and the law which holds it together. When it's acceptable to condemn one group and not another with speech, then we do not live in a free society. When Carrie President Prejean Boller, a Catholic, can be fired from the Religious Liberty Commission for expressing her religious views, we do not have religious freedom.*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. ¿Me querrá decir algo?

Traffic congestion isn't just a daily annoyance; it's a multi-billion dollar drain on the global economy. In this episode, we explore a concrete, real-world application of quantum computing that aims to solve this problem today. Tal David, Co-founder and CEO of Quantum Art, joins host Konstantinos Karagiannis to discuss the company's major new partnership with Ayalon Highways in Israel. Tal breaks down how they are moving beyond theoretical simulations to use quantum algorithms for synchronizing traffic lights and managing flow in metropolitan areas, potentially reducing commute times and optimizing city planning in ways classical computers simply can't handle. Beyond the use case, Tal takes us under the hood of Quantum Art's unique trapped-ion architecture. Unlike competitors that rely on physically shuttling ions, Quantum Art utilizes optical tweezers and massive multi-qubit gates to perform operations on dozens of qubits at once, drastically improving speed and fidelity. We also dive into their aggressive roadmap, which includes a 50-qubit system launching soon, a 1,000-qubit "Perspective" system targeted for 2027, and how they are leveraging NVIDIA technology to power the hybrid future of quantum-classical processing. Welcome back to the EUVC Podcast — where we go deep with the people shaping European venture.Today, David sits down with Kristaps Ronis, Partner at ION Pacific, a global secondaries investor (HQ in LA, presence in Europe & Asia) focused on Series B+ tech and a specialty that's getting hotter by the month: structured secondaries.Kristaps runs ION Pacific's European practice and has been with the firm since inception (2015). In this episode, he unpacks why DPI is king, why traditional “sell-the-shares” secondaries often fall short, and how structured deals can deliver liquidity without selling or signaling — all while preserving control and upside for GPs.Whether you're a GP under LP pressure, an LP looking for distributions, or a founder trying to understand what's happening around your cap table, this one's for you. Here's what's covered:00:55 – Who is ION Pacific? Global secondaries focused on B/C/D with a European practice led by Kristaps.02:36 – What they do: Liquidity for venture via structured & traditional secondaries.04:01 – Kristaps' path: Latvia → Peking University → Hong Kong banking → co-founding ION Pacific.06:05 – What are structured secondaries (in one line).07:35 – Three big learnings in venture: lack of financial innovation, complex cap tables = silent killer, DPI is king.10:48 – Early vs. later stage instruments — why complexity hits hard post-Series B.17:16 – Why secondaries now (esp. in Europe): DPI pressure, awareness, more dedicated players.21:09 – Continuation vehicles in Europe: “2025 is the year of the EU CV.”23:31 – Where structured deals fit: liquidity without selling, pricing gaps, zero market signaling.26:20 – “What's the catch?” Educating LPs on partial upfront + future upside.28:05 – Advice for GPs & LPs: how to open the liquidity conversation.29:53 – Solving the bid–ask spread: structure beats headline discounts.31:27 – Co-investing: where others join (and where they don't).32:26 – The market gap: too big for small PE secondaries, too small for mega funds — ION's sweet spot.35:55 – Timing: don't start in year 11 of a 10+2 fund; think 6–9 months ahead.36:58 – Seller mistakes: timing, portfolio prep, governance blockers, LP comms.40:23 – Good news for emerging managers: relationships can reopen info rights.43:37 – Kristaps' bookshelf: The One Thing, Getting to Neutral, Buy Back Your Time.45:23 – How to reach Kristaps: LinkedIn + email; open to being a sounding board.

First Resonance provides factory orchestration and coordination software for scaling hardware companies. Founded by SpaceX veterans in 2019, the company focused on filling the gap between legacy manufacturing systems and the needs of emerging hard tech startups. In a recent episode of Category Visionaries, we sat down with Karan Talati, CEO & Co-Founder of First Resonance, to learn about the company's journey building Ion—their manufacturing operations platform—and how they're enabling companies scaling from R&D prototypes to production manufacturing across aerospace, defense, nuclear energy, and advanced manufacturing. Topics Discussed: Karan's time at SpaceX during hypergrowth (employee 2,000 to 6,000+) and the transition from single rocket design to production operations Why First Resonance walked away from pursuing legacy aerospace and defense giants The failed PLG experiment and pivot to enterprise sales with product analytics for expansion How the "new space" pattern is repeating in nuclear energy and other hard tech verticals Market expansion from aerospace into nuclear energy over the past three to four years Advanced manufacturing technology convergence enabling electric aviation (battery density, composite manufacturing, 3D printing) AI's role in breaking down knowledge silos between mechanical, electrical, and software engineering Defense contractor security requirements: CMMC, FedRamp, and NIST 800-171 Brand strategy targeting the new manufacturing workforce versus the retiring old guard GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Kill upmarket plans when your core segment outpaces them: First Resonance planned to move from scale-ups to traditional defense and aviation giants. They didn't execute. Karan found that staying with scaling startups delivered faster growth and higher ROI than "long sales cycles" with customers "averse to modern technology." The lesson isn't about patience with enterprise—it's about recognizing when your initial segment is expanding faster than you can capture it. If your TAM is growing 40%+ annually from customer expansion alone, moving upmarket is a distraction. Test PLG fast, kill it faster in multi-stakeholder environments: First Resonance ran a PLG experiment and "quickly learned it does not" work in manufacturing. The buying process involves "centralized, coordinated, orchestrated, many decision makers, many influencers." But they kept the instrumentation. They use "product utilization and usage and engagement" data to "package subsequent value" for renewals and expansion. The tactical move: instrument your product like PLG, sell like enterprise, and use analytics to drive net dollar retention during annual renewals. Treat cloud service provider status as a wedge, not overhead: As a cloud service provider to defense contractors, First Resonance maintains compliance with CMMC, FedRamp, and NIST 800-171. Rather than viewing this as cost center, Karan noted "regulations are getting easier, not harder" and that this is "a benefit to innovators." For B2B founders selling to regulated industries: invest in compliance infrastructure early, monitor regulatory roadmaps (like FedRamp 20x), and position compliance as competitive moat when competitors can't move as quickly. Pattern match your wedge vertical to adjacent disruption: First Resonance saw their aerospace playbook repeat in nuclear energy "literally in the last three, four years." The pattern: legacy incumbents "too big to fail" but "so large and inertial, so hard to move, that startups are going to have to come in and close that gap." When one vertical shows this pattern, adjacent industries with similar incumbent dynamics are expansion candidates. The key signal: former SpaceX/Tesla talent founding companies in that vertical. Design brand for the incoming generation, not the incumbent buyer: With the old guard "rapidly retiring" and manufacturing becoming "cool," First Resonance built a brand with "bold colors and straight lines" that "combines cybernetic systems with inspiration from the Matrix." Karan explicitly rejected softer design trends: "throw all that out." For technical products in industries with demographic shifts, design for the 30-year-old engineer who will champion your tool, not the 55-year-old executive who signs the contract. Deepen rather than proliferate when customers expand physically: First Resonance doesn't worry about logo count because their customers are "scaling in terms of factory square footage and the number of teams." Their expansion motion: "observe product analytics and customer signals and package subsequent value" for upselling during renewals. The tactic works because aerospace and energy have "a tailwind of decades." For infrastructure software with usage tied to physical operations: if customers are adding factories or production lines, you don't need new logos—you need seat expansion and module attach. // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co // Don't Miss: New Podcast Series — How I Hire Senior GTM leaders share the tactical hiring frameworks they use to build winning revenue teams. Ion Feldman, CTO at Rightway, has learned to love one thing about scaling a company from a kitchen table to nearly 1,000 employees: his job completely changes every six months. In this episode, Ion shares what it means to lead engineering when the role refuses to stay still—from writing code in the early days to building product, security, and data teams, and now shaping AI infrastructure. He explains how to stay hands-on without micromanaging, why he deliberately works himself out of roles by hiring people better than him, and how to preserve startup urgency inside a heavily regulated industry. If you've ever wondered how CTOs balance technical depth with business strategy while keeping their team fast and focused, this conversation delivers.Key TakeawaysTreat change as part of the job.Ion's leadership mindset centers on adapting to wherever the company needs him most—product, security, data, or AI. He views change as an opportunity to grow, not a disruption to avoid.Hire yourself out of the role.He dives deep into an area, builds it from scratch, then brings in experts who can take it to the next level. Once the right leadership is in place, he steps back completely and lets them own it.Hands-on time creates credibility.Ion makes sure every leader spends time building. Each quarter, his team takes a week off from meetings and Slack to focus on creating something new. It keeps them close to the work and sharp as technical leaders.AI adoption needs clarity and focus.Rightway avoids vague “use AI” goals by targeting clear use cases like unit test generation and onboarding to codebases. Sharing examples and results drives faster adoption than leaving teams to figure it out alone.Fail fast and move forward.Ion builds space for experimentation but expects quick recognition of failure. The goal is not to avoid mistakes but to learn, pivot, and evolve faster.Timestamped Highlights[02:10] The zero to one mindset – Why Ion thrives on constant reinvention and the satisfaction of building new functions from the ground up.[06:41] Three pillars of AI strategy – How Rightway is transforming work through AI enablement, applied projects, and bold experiments.[08:26] Delegating by design – How going deep before handing off creates clarity and trust across teams.[15:42] Skills that matter later – Ion reflects on learning public speaking and business fluency after years of technical focus.[17:48] Creating space for risk – How to give your team agency to take on big challenges and fail fast without fear.[21:22] Preparing successors – Why the best leaders hire people who will replace them and rethink everything they built. What Stuck With Us"I don't know, maybe I just get bored easily. I think a lot of people could view it as a burden and they want to stay in their lane of expertise, but I see it as an opportunity to learn and change things up."Pro Tips for Tech LeadersTake a week each quarter to build something with zero meetings or Slack. It reconnects you and your team with what you actually love about engineering.Wait to hire senior leadership until the need is undeniable. The role becomes meaningful, and you'll attract higher caliber talent.Give your engineers specific AI examples and let them experiment from there. Adoption follows clarity, not mandates.
Berly and LA tackle Supernatural Season 8, Episode 21: "The Great Escapist" - where Dean FINALLY says those magic words: "We should have brought Kevin to the bunker." Berly screamed at her television in vindication.Kevin's trapped in Crowley's elaborate illusion on a fake houseboat with demon imposters pretending to be Sam and Dean. When his "if you're watching this, I'm dead" video arrives, the hosts are devastated but thrilled Kevin outsmarted the demons - they were "too polite" and didn't use the secret knock.Meanwhile, Cas evades Naomi's angels by hopping between identical Biggerson's restaurants nationwide. His logic: to an immortal being, all Biggersons look the same. The hosts loved this clever escape strategy and the city-hopping montage. Naomi sends "cutie patootie" angel Ion to stop him, resulting in a Biggerson's massacre with horrifically burned-out eye sockets.Sam's deteriorating badly - can't shoot straight, keeps passing out, looks terrible. But he recognizes a symbol from Stanford leading them to a Colorado casino hotel where they find Metatron (Curtis Armstrong, not Megatron). The scribe of God has been reading stories for millennia, completely oblivious to heaven's chaos. The big twist: Crowley shoots Cas and retrieves the angel tablet by rooting around inside his gut - Cas hid it in his body like The Fifth Element! Ion turns out to be a double agent before Cas kills him by shoving the angel blade bullet in his eye.Metatron saves Kevin from Crowley, reveals the third trial is "curing a demon," and the episode ends with bloody Cas appearing in the road asking for help. The hosts loved seeing Kevin cleaned up and confident, appreciated the Biggerson's escape logic, and were satisfied with finally getting answers about the trials."What you brought to this earth, all the mayhem, the murder, just the raw, wild invention of God's naked apes. It was mind-blowing."Sources:https://supernatural.fandom.com/wiki/Pac-Man_Fever https://www.gaia.com/article/who-is-archangel-metatronSend us your review!Support the showTHANK YOU FOR LISTENING!Please rate and review Denim-Wrapped Nightmares wherever you get your podcasts! My guest today is Ion Stoica, professor of computer science at UC Berkeley and the co-founder of Conviva, Databricks, and Anyscale. Over the last two decades, Ion's research labs - the AMP Lab, the RISE Lab, and now the Sky Computing Lab - have seeded a generation of category-defining companies. Ion has the unique ability to turn non-consensus ideas into durable businesses. He applied machine learning to video optimization with Conviva before AI became mainstream. He scaled Apache Spark into a $60B platform with Databricks. And now, with Anyscale, he's betting on Ray as the foundation for distributed AI workloads. In this episode, we dig into both sides of Ion's work: how to build world-class research labs, and how to turn research into real companies. His clarity of thought makes the future feel legible, and his track record suggests he's very often right. Hope you enjoy the conversation!
