Episode 357 features author Rob Weir, who discusses his book 7 Swings at 7: Mickey Mantle — Legend and Victim of American Culture and takes us behind the myth of one of baseball's most iconic figures. We also revisit our memorable interview with barbecue legends Moe Cason and Bob Trudnak. Rob Weir holds a PhD in American social history and is a retired University of Massachusetts Amherst professor.  He is the author of the book, 7 Swings at 7: Mickey Mantle - Legend and Victim of American Culture.  Weir's lifelong fascination with Mantle began when he was five years old. That personal connection, combined with his academic training, provides the foundation for 7 Swings at 7 and his exploration of why Mickey Mantle continues to fascinate generations of baseball fans. Mickey Mantle remains one of the most fascinating and complicated figures in baseball history. He was a Yankees superstar, a three-time MVP, a seven-time World Series champion, and one of the most celebrated athletes of the 1950s and 1960s. But behind the legendary home runs, incredible speed, and larger-than-life image was a man whose life was shaped by injuries, expectations, personal struggles, and the enormous cultural forces surrounding him. Moe Cason AKA Big Moe is an award winning pitmaster who has toiled for many years creating his well respected brand, Moe Cason Barbeque and his instantly recognizable, Big Moe persona.  Moe is a television personality, cookbook author, and a Navy veteran.  He has been featured in national television segments, including Steve Harvey's and Harry Connick Jr.'s talk shows and had his own segment on NatGeo's World of Flavor.  For more information on Big Moe Cason and to purchase his products go to  https://moecasonbbq.com/ Bob Trudnak has loved barbecue since the age of seven, when his dad placed him "in charge" of putting charcoal in the grill and from that day forward he was hooked.  In 1999, Bob helped co-found the company, BBQ Guru.  He is an award winning competive pitmaster.  Beyond competitions, he is a renowned judge and instructor, having hosted hundreds of in-person and virtual barbecue classes.  He is the creator of BBQ Bob's Sauces and BobbyT's Pizza Products.  His latest accomplishment is winning season seven of BBQ Brawl on the Food Network to become the Master of 'Cue.  For more information on Bob Trudnak go to https://bobtrudnakbbq.com/ We recommend you go to Rogue Cookers website, https://roguecookers.com/ for award-winning rubs, Chef Ray Sheehan's website, https://www.raysheehan.com/ for award-winning saucess, rubs, and cookbooks, Baseball BBQ, https://baseballbbq.com for special grilling tools and accessories, Magnechef https://magnechef.com/ for excellent and unique barbecue gloves,  Mantis BBQ, https://mantisbbq.com/ to purchase their outstanding sauces with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Kidney Project, and for exceptional sauces, Elda's Kitchen https://eldaskitchen.com/ To team up against prostate cancer go to https://fansforthecure.org/ for Fans for the Cure, and to subscribe to Bill Chuck's newsletter, Billy-Ball go to  https://billchuck.substack.com/    We conclude the show with the song, Baseball Always Brings You Home from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. This is a bit of a unique episode - not your usual "how to build a culture of experimentation" type episode. And you shouldn't skip this episode because 'it's not experimentation so i don't care' - this episode is SUPER important for anyone in an individual contributor role to hear her wisdom. Mallory "Take the Mantle" Randall is a seasoned veteran who's gone through all of the different stages in her career. And she's learned super valuable career growth things, moving from individual contributor, to managing a small team, to managing MANY teams as VP. So many CROs and experimentation people fixate too much on their program, they don't realize there are people outside of the organization with different goals, trying to accomplish different things. This is why her POV is so important. We got into:- When you start your job, understanding your peers is just as important (if not more important) than actually getting your program off the ground- Peers need you to push back - understanding HOW to push back, thoughtfully (and respectfully) is key. And picking and choosing your battles will help you grow in your career and get more things done- There are limitations to 'being right' - just because you're right, doesn't mean people will listen to you. Hard to believe that we're already about a quarter of the way through season 6 - feels like we've only just started. To commemorate this occasion, I'm joined by Kara Talve. Kara has been the principal composer of The Simpsons for the last few years, serves as the principal composer at Bleeding Fingers Music (the Hans Zimmer-founded composer collective), and has scored projects like Prehistoric Planet (and the upcoming Harry Potter series). In fact, we spend much of our conversation talking about Prehistoric Planet, for which she received her fifth Emmy nomination just a few hours before we conducted this interview. Prehistoric Planet gave us plenty to cover: the constantly changing styles and genres (in part due to the ever-changing locations and "characters" of the show), building unique instruments, driving the story due to minimal character or narrative, and more. The instrument side of things was particularly interesting to me. A lot of the time it feels like a gimmick that perhaps has a connection with the film but doesn't actually noticeable change the sound of the score. But then you get something like the terror tone, an instrument based off of the fossilized larynx and trachea of Llallawavis scagliai, creating an otherworldly evil sound. To make this and other instruments, they consulted with paleontologists to get measurements, frequencies, and other aspects related to these creatures. Kara even mentions that using bone in percussion gives a resonance you don't normally find, which reminded me of the use of a deer skull as percussion in Agalloch's seminal album The Mantle. Kara's score for the first two seasons of Prehistoric Planet, and much of her other music, is available on all major platforms while the show itself is available on Apple TV. However, for unknown reasons the score for season 3 remains unreleased (and Kara makes a call for its release during the interview). You can find out more about Kara on her website.

Are you feeling exhausted, defeated, or like you're just trying to survive the darkness in the world? Discover how to unlock the true empowerment of the Holy Spirit to break strongholds and bring real change to your life, workplace, and community. In this powerful message, Elliott Warren reveals that God wants to do more than just comfort you—He wants to empower you. Drawing from the passing of Elijah's mantle to Elisha and the explosive growth of the early church, this sermon challenges the modern mindset of merely waiting for heaven. Instead, it equips you with a bold "Kingdom Vision" to pray "Thy kingdom come" not as a passive wish, but as an aggressive prayer of spiritual warfare to displace the enemy.  Whether you are facing resistance in your personal life, your family, or your career, you will learn how to shift from playing defense to actively taking territory. Just as the Apostle Paul experienced breakthrough, an earthquake, and prison doors opening in Macedonia after persistent spiritual warfare, you too can step into the authority needed to see chains fall and lives transformed. [Central Heating & Air Ad] Dave Young: Welcome to the Empire Builders Podcast. Dave Young here alongside Stephen Semple. And we’re talking about empires, big businesses, big enterprises that have gone global, have gone ballistic and become huge, huge names. And Stephen whispered in my ear that we’re going to be talking about Yoo-hoo. Stephen Semple: Yoo-hoo. Dave Young: Not yahoo. Stephen Semple: Yoo-hoo. Dave Young: I thought he was just trying to get my attention when he said it. But no, Yoo-hoo. It’s a soft drink, right? Is it like the predecessor of Mountain Dew? Is it related? Stephen Semple: Somewhat. Somewhat but it’s a- Dave Young: I kind of remember drinking a bottle of Yoo-hoo when I was a kid. Stephen Semple: It’s a chocolate drink though. Dave Young: Oh, it’s the chocolate thing. Yeah, yeah. No, I don’t think I’ve ever drank a bottle of that. Stephen Semple: Yeah. Well, and the reason why it’s kind of a predecessor to a bunch of things is that it really was the first in the made to drink category. It actually invented that category of made to drink type. Dave Young: Made to drink as opposed to a soda fountain where you’re mixing the syrup and the soda at the point of consumption. Stephen Semple: Correct. Or an orange juice where you mix the concentrate. It was sort of, again, one of the very first made. Today it’s part of Keurig. And as we- Dave Young: Is it really? Stephen Semple: Yeah. It’s part of Keurig today. Yeah. Dave Young: I don’t know why that doesn’t seem to fit what I think of- Stephen Semple: Well, Keurig owns a bunch of things now, like their Dr. Pepper and there’s a number of things in the Keurig world today. Dave Young: I’m not keeping up with the… Pretty soon they’re all going to be owned by one company. Stephen Semple: Well, you’re not keeping up with the mergers and acquisitions? Dave Young: No, not at all. Try to hide from it. What are you going to do? Stephen Semple: Because Keurig doesn’t break out the sales, the estimates are somewhere between 100 million and 300 million in sales through Yoo-hoo. But what we do know is it’s a pretty big deal to be part of that group now. Now it was started by Natale Olivieri in 1928 and he sold it to Max Geller, who was an advertising executive in the early 1960s for a million bucks. But a million bucks in the 1960s was good money, right? Dave Young: Probably good retirement for the guy in the ’60s. Stephen Semple: And that’s basically what he did. He retired, moved to Florida, and didn’t work again. Natale’s an Italian immigrant and he’s a soda shop owner in New Jersey. Dave Young: That makes sense. That tracks. Stephen Semple: Yeah. And he’s making his own bottle of fruit sodas, but he’s struggling to differentiate from Orange Crush and Nehi. Dave Young: Okay. Stephen Semple: And his drinks are called True Fruit and he uses these high quality ingredients and they’re sold in these take-home bottles, which was unusual at the time. But what he noticed is a lot of people, he was losing a lot of business to the chocolate drinks sold at the soda fountain across the street. Dave Young: Okay. Stephen Semple: Because remember, soda fountains is where we used to go and get all sorts of things like milkshakes. Right? Dave Young: Yeah. But he was doing bottled drinks and take them home. Stephen Semple: Bottled fruit drinks. Dave Young: Fruit drinks. Stephen Semple: Yeah. Bottled fruit drink. Dave Young: Okay. Not sodas. Stephen Semple: Yeah. Not sodas. But he also looked around, he saw there was no pre-bottled chocolate milk on the market. Dave Young: Okay. Yeah. Stephen Semple: So he had this idea, what if I could make a shelf-stable chocolate drink that customers could have anywhere, anytime? All that sort of stuff, unprecedented idea, right? Dave Young: Sounds like a million-dollar idea. Stephen Semple: Yeah. It turned out to be, but there were some challenges along the way. The first challenge is people don’t have refrigeration. It’s not widespread. Milk spoils. Dave Young: Put some milk in a bottle and yeah, that seems problematic. Stephen Semple: Yeah. So how do you create a milk-like experience and taste without milk? That’s kind of challenge number one. So he experiments with a bunch of different things, and he comes across this whole idea of a milk protein and this dairy byproduct that he put together that suddenly created this milky flavor with lower fat and better freshness, had more shelf life. But despite that this was now whey-based, it was still not really and truly a shelf stable product. It was better than milk, but it was not yet what was needed. Dave Young: Got you. Stephen Semple: And in fact, he was working so hard on this that he started to kind of almost ignore his soda business and that actually began to falter. And he reached the point where frankly he almost gave up. Dave Young: Wow. Okay. Stephen Semple: So he’s at the end of his rope, he’s almost given up, and he got actually inspired one day when he was home and he watched his wife canning fruit using the hot fill method. Dave Young: Okay. Stephen Semple: Now what the hot fill method is, you heat the bottle interior and the liquid to just over 200 degrees Fahrenheit. I think it’s like 214 or something like that. And then seal it while it’s hot, which basically prevents bacterial contamination. Dave Young: The end result is when it cools, there’s a vacuum that’s formed and- Stephen Semple: There’s a vacuum that formed and also all the bacteria was killed. Dave Young: Yeah. Stephen Semple: Or a good chunk of it, enough of it that now the product is quite shelf stable. So he applied this to his drink and now he’s able to produce a shelf stable drink that’s smooth, cocoa flavored, dessert-like, sweet, all the things that he’s looking for. But he also realizes he has another problem. He can’t call it True Fruit. Dave Young: It’s chocolate fruit. Stephen Semple: Because that would be kind of confusing. Dave Young: My favorite chocolate fruit. Stephen Semple: Yeah. Kind of a confusing name for chocolate drink. So he decides to call it Yoo-hoo. And Yoo-hoo was inspired by a line in the song called the Indian Love Call. And literally the Indian Love Call, Yoo-hoo. Right? Dave Young: Okay. Stephen Semple: You can actually go back and listen to this old song. He heard the song and he said, “That’s what I’m going to call the drink.” MUSIC: Back in our days of happy childhood, Yoohoo means please come out and play I was so bashful in the wild-wood Now I am bolder, I wrote and told her You’ll hear me calling Yoohoo, ‘Neath your window some sweet day You’ll hear me calling Yoohoo, Yoohoo, Then you’ll know I’m home to stay When I hear your cheery answer, It will make my dreams come true Because I know that Yoohoo Means I love you Stephen Semple: Now here’s the part that I know, Dave, you would love about this. People were skeptic because it gave no clues to the product. Yoo-hoo doesn’t say chocolate. Dave Young: Yoo-hoo, try it. Stephen Semple: It doesn’t say drink. It doesn’t say any of those things. All it is different and memorable. Dave Young: Yeah. I think that’s great. And honestly, stealing a line from a song, not the worst idea. Stephen Semple: Yeah. Yeah. Dave Young: Especially if it’s in the popular vernacular. Stephen Semple: It was at the time. It was at the time. And the thing I loved about it is, Dave, how often do we talk about where people are trying to name things right on the money and it’s uninspiring and uninteresting and not memorable? Here’s a guy who I guess in a former life you were him because you called it Yoo-hoo. Dave Young: Yoo-hoo. I would’ve called something else Yoo-hoo, but he already did it. So no, I like that. And I think it just never became huge enough brand. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen it in a store. Stephen Semple: Well- Dave Young: But I could just not be looking for it either. Stephen Semple: There was a time it did get big versus everybody else, so we’ll talk a little bit about that next. So it’s 1928 Olivieri starts basically selling the world first shelf stable bottled chocolate drink. Now, why do we call it chocolate drink? Dave Young: Stay tuned. We’re going to wrap up this story and tell you how to apply this lesson to your business right after this. [Using Stories To Sell] Dave Young: Let’s pick up our story where we left off and trust me, you haven’t missed a thing. Stephen Semple: Now, why do we call it chocolate drink? Because the FDA required it to be called chocolate drink because it contained no milk. Dave Young: Got you. So was that whey or milk proteins, the stuff in it? Stephen Semple: So that’s why they couldn’t call it chocolate milk. Yeah, it’s milk proteins and whey. So basically the FDA said, “You can’t call it chocolate milk because it’s not milk.” So it’s called a chocolate drink. Dave Young: So he invented… What he did is he invented the protein shake. Stephen Semple: Basically. Yeah. I guess I hadn’t thought about it that way, but yeah, basically. Yeah. Dave Young: CrossFit didn’t exist back then. Stephen Semple: It did. Dave Young: So there was no real market for crookie shakes. Stephen Semple: Yeah. That was called… They had a different name for it back then. It was called work. Dave Young: How do those people get away with calling that other one muscle milk? Stephen Semple: I don’t. Dave Young: I don’t know. I’m chasing a rabbit into the woods. Let’s get back to Yoo-hoo. Stephen Semple: Okay. So Yoo-hoo becomes a local hit. It’s pretty popular in New Jersey, then moves into Pennsylvania. Consumers like it. Restaurants start carrying it, starts getting onto grocery store shelves because people love the durability of it. And really again, this whole idea is the product created this new category. Ready to drink chocolate that’s shelf stable. Now through the Great Depression and into the 1950s, he scaled production. He got to the stage where they were pretty big. He got to the stage where they were manufacturing 250 bottles a minute. Dave Young: Wow, okay. Yeah. Stephen Semple: In the facility in New Jersey and in South Carolina, the facility in South Carolina, they were doing 300,000 cases a year. Dave Young: Okay. Stephen Semple: So pretty big. Dave Young: It’s a lot of Yoo-hoo. Stephen Semple: Pretty big. And basically one of the things that he did to make it popular, because what he knew was he was competing against Nestle and Hershey’s because they very quickly came out with things like that. So in 1955, comes up with this marketing idea because he’s now facing this competition. He’s no longer the only game in town. So he has this chance meeting with Yogi Berra. As we know, Yogi Berra was the winner of two American League MVPs. He was a five-time consecutive World Series champion, right? Pretty popular guy. Dave Young: Mm-hmm. And famous for his weird slip-ups with language. It was just these Yogi Berra-isms. Stephen Semple: Yeah, Yogi Berra-isms. Dave Young: Yeah. Stephen Semple: One of my favorite ones is no one goes to the mall any longer because it’s too busy. Dave Young: Yeah. Oh, that restaurant used to be really popular till everybody started going there. Stephen Semple: Exactly, exactly. Or my favorite one of his is deja vu all over again. Dave Young: Uh-huh. Yeah. So Yogi Berra becomes their spokesman? Stephen Semple: Yeah. And he actually created an endorsement deal that was innovative for the time, but has now been done a lot because he didn’t have a lot of money to give Yogi Berra. So what he gave Yogi Berra was stock options. Dave Young: All right. Stephen Semple: And that led to endorsements also from Mickey Mantle and Whitney Ford. So he’s got Whitney Ford, Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra. And basically they start branding it the drink of champions. Dave Young: Okay. That’s cute. Stephen Semple: Right. Dave Young: Yeah. Stephen Semple: Predated the breakfast of champions, right? Dave Young: Yeah. That’s right. Stephen Semple: The drink of champions. But could do it because he had these people who were champions endorsing- Dave Young: They were champions. Yeah. Stephen Semple: … endorsing the product. So it’s the early 1960s and Olivieri has this opportunity to sell to Max Geller for a million bucks, which would be roughly like 10 million today, retires at Florida. Soon afterwards, now Max was a smart guy because soon afterwards they do a distribution deal with Pepsi. Dave Young: There you go. Yep. Stephen Semple: And then later Yoo-hoo would be acquired by Keurig. And at the time that the acquisition with Keurig happened, they were doing a hundred million bottles a year of Yoo-hoo. So still 100 million bottles a year is nothing to sneeze out. Dave Young: With my mouth, you’d think I’d stumble across one now and then. Stephen Semple: Yeah. And I’ve always just sort of thought maybe it’s not in Canada. I’ve not stumbled across it but- Dave Young: I think when I look at it and I think about the name and I don’t know the Indian song, so it just feels like a child’s drink. Stephen Semple: Yeah. Maybe. Maybe. Dave Young: Yeah. Stephen Semple: But I thought it was pretty cool from the standpoint of here he is and he’s seeing this thing happen and decides to invent this thing that no one has done before, which is this shelf stable chocolate drink and then decided to do this really fun name and then had this opportunity for the endorsement deal and didn’t go, “Oh, I can’t endorse Yogi Berra. I have no money.” Dave Young: Yeah. Yeah. Stephen Semple: Instead looked at it and went, “Well, wait a minute. If he endorses it and we do well, the stock price will go up, so why don’t I give him stock options?” Dave Young: So Yogi and Mickey and Whitey Ford, they did okay too. Stephen Semple: Yeah. I’m sure they did just fine. And that became a standard for endorsements going forward where celebrities much more, instead of taking the cash, would have royalties or shares in companies or things along that lines, which not only made endorsements more lucrative, but also opened the door for smaller businesses to be able to do it. Dave Young: Yeah. You see it all the time. Even movie stars are like, “Don’t pay me as much, but give me a percentage of profits.” Stephen Semple: Yeah. Dave Young: Yeah. Stephen Semple: And from what I was able to gather, the Yogi Berra was literally, if not the first endorsement done that way, one of the very first endorsements done that way, which really showed innovative thinking because it would be easy to get caught in the, “I can’t afford it” rather than, “Huh, what’s an alternative solution to this problem?” Dave Young: So next time you’re on the Wizard Academy Campus, I think you should bring a couple of bottles of Yoo-hoo and we’ll sip some Yoo-hoo. I don’t know, is it a breakfast drink or is that an afternoon… Because I would for sure make a cocktail out of it. Stephen Semple: Well, then it’s afternoon. Dave Young: I bet it tastes really good with Kahlúa or creme de cocoa. Stephen Semple: I’m sure. You know what? With Kahlúa, it’d be great, I think. Dave Young: Yeah. I think so. I think this is worth exploring is what I’m saying. Stephen Semple: You know what? I think we owe it to the world- Dave Young: We owe it to our audience to- Stephen Semple: … to do a little bit of experimentation on this to determine what is the best way to drink Yoo-hoo. Dave Young: Uh-huh. It can’t just be straight off the shelf because that’s just not how science works. Stephen Semple: It’s not. Well, and if we’re going to do science, we got to do a couple of different iterations. Dave Young: Sure. I mean, is it a whiskey drink? If so, is it an Irish whiskey drink? I feel like that might be good. Stephen Semple: Yeah. Yeah. We’ll give them Baileys, this Irish whiskey. I’m going to say it’s probably more of the Irish whiskey side. Dave Young: That’s probably where it’s headed. All right. Well, I’m looking forward to it now, my first taste of Yoo-hoo. Stephen Semple: We’re taking it from a shelf stable drink to a making us instable drink. Dave Young: When I say my first drink of Yoo-hoo, it makes me sound like that’s a word that you would use to bleep something else out. Right? I hit him right in the yoo-hoo. Oh, what a fun story. I hope he had a wonderful retirement in Florida and I’m looking forward to- Stephen Semple: I’m sure he did. I’m sure he did. Dave Young: … looking forward to raising a glass of Yoo-hoo next time we’re in the same room, Stephen. Stephen Semple: All right. Awesome. Thanks. Okay. Thanks, David. When the whirlwind took Elijah up into heaven, Elisha didn't just inherit a cloak—he inherited a double portion of a heavy prophetic mantle. If your life currently feels like a series of dry brooks, empty oil jars, or overwhelming spiritual battles, Elisha's ministry provides the exact roadmap to help you find the living water. Summary: In this episode, we deep dive into the masterclass of faith found in 2 Kings 1–13. We move from the final, fiery testimonies of Elijah to the intimate, life-giving miracles of Elisha, tracking how God continues to validate and empower His chosen servants across generations. Passing the Mantle: We break down the beautiful, unwavering loyalty of Elisha to Elijah and what it truly means to receive a "double portion" of spiritual power through humility and close proximity. The Widow's Oil and the Shunammite's Son: We analyze the biology of these miracles, where God takes the tiny resources we have available—a single pot of oil or a small chamber—and multiplies them to preserve life. The Healing of Naaman: We dissect the pride of the Syrian captain who wanted a spectacular display but was commanded to wash seven times in a muddy river. Discover why small, simple things are the hardest for the natural man to accept. Eyes to See: When the Syrian army surrounds Elisha and his servant, we see the ultimate contrast between physical sight and spiritual vision. Learn how to look past the visible opposition to see the mountains filled with horses and chariots of fire. The Power of Elisha's Bones: We conclude with the bizarre and beautiful final miracle of Elisha, where even his dead bones have the power to resurrect a man, proving that our covenant connections to the prophets outlive mortality itself. Call-to-Action:Are you standing at the edge of your own "Jordan River," wondering if the power that was with the giants of the past is still available to you today? The story of Elisha taking up the mantle of Elijah after a season of apprenticeship is a beautiful depiction of the relationship between a mentor and a mentee—a relationship that both the spiritually young and the spiritually old need. Outside of the home, the most important relationship for developing a strong faith that a young Christian can have is for them to get to know older Christians and live life with them. Similarly, the most effective way to pass your faith and passion for the mission of God onto the next generation, as an older Christian, is to get to know the young ones around you.

The sermon challenges believers to move beyond mere forgiveness toward a life empowered by the Holy Spirit through total surrender. Drawing from Luke 3 and the biblical account of Elisha, the message illustrates how yielding personal comfort and possessions opens the door for divine authority and purpose. A personal testimony about giving away a new coat demonstrates that small acts of obedience can trigger significant spiritual breakthroughs. The central call is to abandon self-reliance and worldly attachments to embrace God's pathway for impactful service. Ultimately, true Christian living requires a permanent inward change that allows God's power to flow through surrendered vessels.

James 5:16-18 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. SERMON NOTES I. The Burden of Legacy The Coca-Cola Lesson: In 1985, "New Coke" failed because customers felt betrayed by the loss of something familiar and trustworthy, even though the new flavor was "better". Defining the Mantle: To "take up the mantle" means to assume the role and responsibility of a predecessor and say, "I will carry on what they began". Succession is Hard: It is almost impossible to follow a "GOAT" (Greatest of All Time) because you are constantly compared to their legacy. II. The Pitfall of Talent: Churchill vs. Eden Winston Churchill: A legendary leader who rallied Britain against "monstrous tyranny" with bold determination and grit. Anthony Eden: A "polished diplomat" and Churchill's right-hand man who seemed perfect on paper but failed his first test (the Suez Canal crisis) and resigned in disgrace. Insight: It isn't easy to take up the mantle. III. The Source of Power: Elijah vs. Elisha Dark Days: King Ahab and Jezebel led Israel into extreme evil, murdering God's prophets and worshipping idols. Elijah's Fire: Elijah single-handedly confronted 450 prophets of Baal, and God answered with fire from heaven to prove He was the true God. The Big Truth: Elisha was called to follow this legend, but James 5:17 reminds us Elijah was "a man just like us". The power came from God's presence, not Elijah's ability. IV. Taking Up the Mantle Today The Current Call: In modern days of darkness and challenge, we are called to be the church. The First Passing: Successful legacy requires mentorship. Elijah didn't just leave; he invited Elisha to walk with him and learn from his presence for years. The Ultimate Strength: We take up the mantle by trusting the Spirit of Jesus, who conquered death and lives in us.   Discussion Questions The "Familiarity" Factor: Why do you think people react so strongly to change (like the "New Coke" example)? In your own life, when has it been difficult to let go of the "familiar" to embrace something new? The Pressure of Success: What makes it so hard to live up to a previous legacy? The "Just Like Us" Reality: James 5:17 says Elijah was "a man just like us." How does it change your view of your own faith to know that Elijah's miracles were about God's power rather than Elijah's special abilities? Practical Mentorship: The sermon mentioned a "first passing" of the mantle where Elijah gave Elisha his presence. What does it look like practically for different generations in our church to spend time together and share their walks with the Lord? Looking at the "Faith Hall of Fame" (Hebrews 11), many faced extreme hardships. Which "dark days" in our world today feel most overwhelming to you, and how does the promise that "He who lives in you is greater" give you courage?

Harvest Replay Technology Helps Specialty Crop Growers Improve Labor Efficiency

As labor costs continue to rise and farm margins remain under pressure, specialty crop growers are increasingly turning to technology to improve efficiency. One company believes artificial intelligence and farm data can help growers make better decisions every day through a unique audio-based reporting system. Steve Mantle, founder of Innovate Ag, recently discussed the company's Harvest Replay platform during an interview on AgNet News Hour. The technology is designed to help growers better understand labor performance, operational efficiency, and production trends by transforming farm data into easy-to-consume daily audio reports. Mantle launched Innovate Ag seven years ago after leaving the technology sector and recognizing opportunities to bring data-driven decision-making tools to agriculture. The company now works with hundreds of farms across the United States, Latin America, and Europe, with a particular focus on labor-intensive specialty crops. According to Mantle, labor remains the largest expense for many specialty crop operations. Harvest Replay helps growers identify inefficiencies by analyzing payroll, harvest, and operational data to highlight areas where productivity can be improved. The platform generates customized daily podcasts tailored to different levels of a farming operation. Leadership teams receive economic and financial insights, farm managers receive operational recommendations, and crew leaders can access practical field-level information. Reports can also be delivered in Spanish to better serve workforce needs. “Harvest Replay is basically a daily podcast that growers listen to that talks about what happened on the farm yesterday and what's happening the day and week ahead,” Mantle explained. The audio summaries can identify issues such as underperforming blocks, labor deployment inefficiencies, and productivity trends. By reviewing historical and real-time data, growers can make adjustments that may improve profitability and optimize workforce allocation. Mantle said the system requires minimal setup and can integrate with existing payroll and farm management platforms. Once connected, the platform automatically analyzes incoming data and generates daily reports without requiring additional data entry from growers. To encourage adoption, Innovate Ag is offering pilot programs aimed at helping growers evaluate the technology before committing to a broader rollout. The company says participating growers can identify operational “leaky buckets” that may be reducing profitability and labor efficiency. Beyond labor management, Mantle believes artificial intelligence will continue playing a larger role in agriculture as growers face increasing challenges from weather variability, rising input costs, regulatory pressures, and workforce shortages. Technologies that help simplify decision-making could become valuable tools for producers trying to remain competitive. As specialty crop operations continue looking for ways to improve efficiency, platforms like Harvest Replay represent one example of how AI and automation are beginning to reshape day-to-day farm management.

The Horror Avengers debate the film's strange legacy, its relationship to the beloved TV series, Joss Whedon's original intentions, Paul Reubens' unforgettable death scene, and whether Cinematic Nostalgia Disorder (CND) may be clouding everyone's judgment! And finally, Jay and Spawn of the Dead close out the episode with a surprisingly enthusiastic Final Cut review of The Butterfly Effect (2004), discovered in a nearly abandoned Walgreens DVD bargain bin like the physical-media treasure hunters they truly are. In this episode of Leaders in Living Rooms, Sean Morgan sits down with Jim Burgen to explore how senior leaders can cultivate vision, develop future leaders, and steward seasons of growth with intentionality and humility. Jim shares the story behind Flatirons Church's “Be Free” faith initiative, a movement focused on establishing outposts of freedom, investing in leadership development, and engaging deeply in anti-trafficking efforts locally and globally. The conversation highlights the importance of resisting manufactured momentum, listening for God's direction, and building structures that empower others while protecting the leader's spiritual and emotional health. Jim also challenges pastors to create pathways for calling the next generation into ministry and to embrace both the weight and privilege of the mantle of leadership. Welcome to Episode 159 of the Leaders in Living Rooms Podcast with Sean Morgan.

Rare artifacts within the vast archives of the Library of Congress (LOC) represent a shift in how our region's history is fundamentally understood. Moving beyond traditional nationalist timelines, Arab World specialist in the African and Middle East division at the LOC, Dr. Muhannad Salhi, explores the transition of diverse items in the library's "Near East" collection, from 3000-year-old economic receipts to unique cultural fragments, into autonomous objects of study that define a global narrative. Reclaiming these stories serves as a resistance against regional erasure and the invisibility often felt in the global cultural landscape.   0:00 Introduction 1:52 The "Near East" Section: Geographic and Linguistic Scope 3:02 The Library's Path 4:46 Overview of the Arabic Collection 5:20 The Library's Oldest Items 7:06 Digitization Efforts and Copyright Restrictions 9:10 The Purpose of the Library of Congress 13:24 Regional Context and Cultural Insight 16:00 A Public Resource and Supporting Global Scholarship 18:36 Overseas Offices and Book Dealers 19:17 A Typical Week with Rare Materials and Scholarly Research 22:11 The Oldest Piece of Islamic object in the Americas 25:00 Calligraphy Styles: From Kufi to South Asian and Persian Aesthetics 27:03 The Chinese Quran: A Unique Intersection of Cultures 28:03 The Dalail al-Khayrat and Mantle of the Prophet 31:55 Manuscripts from Gambia 33:24 Arabic Translations of Greek Medicine 35:45 A Unique Work on Petroleum 36:54 Astronomy and Astrology 39:53 Mapping the Region 44:42 Archiving Historic Newspapers and Pop Culture 48:42 Early Arabic Printing 52:10 The Jefferson Quran: Myth vs. Reality in Pop Culture 57:00 Arab-American Literature: Ameen Rihani's The Book of Khalid 58:20 Iraq's Most Wanted Deck of Cards 01:00:22 A Lost Letter from West Africa 01:02:15 Photography Archives 01:03:33 The Items That Got Away 01:06:08 What Policymakers Should Understand About the Region   Muhannad Salhi is the Arab World Specialist in the African and Middle Eastern Division at the Library of Congress, where he covers the Arab world, North Africa, and Islam. In theory this looked like it could end up being an end of season decider for a Champions League place next season, but whilst Liverpool have crawled towards completing the job Chelsea have lost 6 in a row in the Premier League and have parted ways with a manager along the way. On Clash of the Correspondents James is joined by Liverpool fan Dan Lord and Chelsea fan Gary Mantle to discuss an underwhelming period for both clubs. Should Arne Slot stay in the job at The Reds, despite several disappointing displays this campaign? There's soon to be a farewell to Andy Robertson and Mo Salah and concerns about Alexander Isak's continued injury problems. Chelsea are on a horrendous run, Liam Rosenior is gone and the fans are protesting against those running the operations. Could they salvage this season with European qualification and an FA Cup Final victory? Plus, all the key FPL discussion, including whether assets from both clubs should be binned or invested in, featuring the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Dominik Szoboszlai, Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer. The Chopping Block: Defi United's “Bailout,” MegaETH's KPI Vesting, and Prediction Market Chaos

Is the era of protocol bailouts upon us? The Chopping Block crew and MegaETH's Shuyao Kong debate Defi United's community-funded rescue, the KPI vesting experiment shaking up token launches, whether DeFi yields truly underprice risk, and the first major PolyMarket insider trading bust—all delivered with the usual insider banter you won't hear anywhere else. Welcome to The Chopping Block — where crypto insiders Haseeb Qureshi, Tom Schmidt, Tarun Chitra, and Robert Leshner chop it up about the latest in crypto. This week, the squad is joined by MegaETH co-founder Shuyao Kong, fresh off their headline-making KPI-gated token launch. First, we dive into the whirlwind that is Defi United: a who's-who of Ethereum OGs and protocols pledging hundreds of millions to fill bailout holes from the massive KelpDAO hack—voluntarily. Are we witnessing a new age of protocol do-gooder vibes or just kicking the moral hazard can down the road?  Then, we tear into the “are DeFi yields way too low” debate, prodded by Tom Dunleavy's viral thread—should degens really be earning more for taking protocol risk, or are the markets just as weird as they seem? Shuyao gives us an under-the-hood look at MegaETH's radical KPI vesting mechanics, why they made the token vesting play risky pre-TGE, and whether dynamic tokenomics could be the industry's way forward (with plenty of banter about airdrop farming and governance theater along the way).  Finally, we spin through the saga of PolyMarket's big DOJ insider trading bust: is “insider info” a feature or a bug in prediction markets? All that, history lessons, cynicism, and more—let's get into it.
