Ep. 393: Jordan Cronk on Cannes 2026: Directors' Fortnight Preview, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, Nagi Notes, Butterfly Jam, plus Play-Doc retro + Jeonju Welcome to The Last Thing I Saw, with your host, Nicolas Rapold. For the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, I'm very happy to start the big show with Jordan Cronk, critic and programmer. We discussed a few films from the first big day of programming: Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (directed by Jane Schoenbrun, starring Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder), Nagi Notes (Koji Fukada), and Butterfly Jam (Kantemir Balagov, starring Barry Keoghan, Riley Keough, Harry Messing). But I was also treated to a preview of Directors' Fortnight, the Cannes showcase where Cronk is also a program advisor, and which this year includes films by Radu Jude, Alain Cavalier, Dominga Sotomayor, Lisandro Alonso, longtime Apichatpong Weerasethakul collaborato Sompot Chidgasornpongse, and Bruno Dumont. But that's not all! Cronk also shares his visits to two festivals just before Cannes: Play-Doc in Galicia, where he saw a very intriguing retrospective, Spain, and the Jeonju International Film Festival in Jeonju, South Korea. It’s a public holiday Monday for some, but because we love you, we’re not leaving you high and dry. We’ve picked a conversation straight from the Outlouders Facebook group that had everyone unpacking their own family dynamics: the dreaded – or in some cases beloved – family group chat. Holly, Clare and Em are diving into a dilemma from an Outlouder who has implemented a ‘new regime’ called The Sunday Roast. The rules? Every Sunday, every family member must text their weekly highs and lows along with three photos. No explanations needed, but follow-up questions are mandatory. So, is this a beautiful way to keep the family connected, or an administrative nightmare that makes you want to tap out? Plus, we have some bonus reccos and things we can't stop thinking about including micro-holidays, ‘Monthly 10s’ by Julianna Salguero and Nagi’s Miso Eggplant recipe. You’re welcome.
Simon is BACK! And what a welcome return. Yumi and Simon discuss what it was like to have comedian Jennifer Wong onboard as guest host, and Yumi has some tips about what to order - and what NOT to order - when going out for Yum Cha.And if you want to make Gai Lan (Chinese Broccoli) at home? Here's Nagi's recipe. And to do it at home?1 Bunch of Gai Lan. If you can't get this vegetable, try it with broccolini, it's very good!Trim the woody ends off the green vegetable. Wash well. If any of the stems are especially thick, slice down their length.Place the gai lan in a steamer basket or plunge into a big pot of boiling water. Cook for about 5 minutes but test to make sure it's to your liking. You want it not too chewy and raw, but you definitely don't want to overcook it either. In this case I would get sexy with a timer to really make sure.Meanwhile, gently heat 4tbs oyster sauce with 2-3tbs water. Add a teaspoon of vegetable oil and 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil IF YOU CAN BE BOTHERED. Toss the cooked vegetable through the sauce but try not to make it a messy jumble: at yum cha it's all neatly laid out facing the same way and halved. Enjoy! Hosted on Acast. What has truly transformed endoscopy over the past decades? In this first part of a two-part conversation, host Egle Dieninyte sits down with Professor Nageshwar Reddy, one of the most influential pioneers in modern therapeutic endoscopy, to reflect on how the field has evolved — and where it is heading next. From the transition from rigid to fibreoptic endoscopy, to the introduction of video systems that reshaped team dynamics in the endoscopy suite, Professor Reddy explains why some of the most powerful innovations were not necessarily the most glamorous ones. The discussion also explores: • Disposable scopes and environmental responsibility • Antibiotic resistance and global practice differences • The role of passion and compassion in medicine • Regenerative endoscopy and stem cell applications • The story behind the “Nagi stent” Beyond technology, this episode offers a personal perspective on success, mentorship, and what it truly means to be a good endoscopist.

Streaming News 39:41: Whatever the Kodansha-Disney deal was supposed to mean, Justin at least doesn’t know since the newest Ghost in the Shell anime will be streamed on Prime this summer; Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc will stream on Crunchyroll this Spring but Justin of course will make this about Demon Slayer; And not surprisingly, things don’t get cheaper, they get more expensive so Crunchyroll upping the subscription price for all tiers is not a shock. 44:43: GKIDS acquired the North American theatrical rights to Shōji Kawamori’s original animation film Labyrinth and it will be in theaters for two days in May; The 76th Berlin International Film Festival is screening a 4K restoration of Ninja Scroll; and Oceanveil continues branching out from what they’re usually known for, and now has Haigakura & Scum’s Wish on their service. Main Topic: Winter Anime 2026 First Impressions 48:04: Justin and Helen discuss a very packed Winter Anime season, which means you should find a lot to like, whether it’s sequels (Frieren S2, Jujutsu Kaisen S3) to thoughtful and dense shows (Journal With Witch) or hilarious romcoms (Tamon's B-Side, You and I Are Polar Opposites). Just don’t do what Justin’s doing and watch objectively bad anime because you liked the original source (Roll Over and Die at 53:03, Tune in to the Midnight Heart at 1:07:47). Weird News 1:57:24: The year of reviving old material continues, as now Chie Shinohara’s Red River is getting an anime adaptation, so once again Justin implores everyone to let their dreams be dreams and put out in the universe what you want to become an anime! 2:03:51: You wouldn’t think a collaboration between artists would generate any controversy, but if it involves China and My Hero Academia, then yes, there will be controversy; if you like spicy foods and Hatsune Miku, Thailand’s got something for you; And finally, Mamoru Oshii has too much time on his hands since he’s logged way too many hours on Fallout, why would he share this with anyone (meanwhile Justin reveals how many hours he’s logged into Fire Emblem: Three Houses) If there’s anything you’d like to share, please feel free to reach out to us on Twitter (@TheOASG) or comment below with your thoughts! Much like the Crunchyroll anime Ruri Rocks, this episode of Syndicated with Lesley and Ben, is an excuse to talk about rocks, minerals and crystals. We're joined by Héctor González to ask a critical question. Can an anime be educational, beautiful and fan service? Yeah, of course it can. Are you kidding? We covered the first episode, My First Mineral Hunt. Ruri Tanigawa becomes fixated on a crystal necklace in a boutique store. After a failed attempt to get her mother to forward her the money to purchase it, Ruri ventures forth into the forests to find some natural crystals and minerals on her own. The adventure doesn't go her way until she meets Nagi Arato, a graduate student with significantly more experience in locating the gems that Ruri is obsessed with. Together they're able to find some garnets and Nagi's insight into minerals cements Ruri's new interest. Syndicated with Lesley and Ben is a twice monthly podcast about television, genre and storytelling in which your hosts watch one episode of a new show and explore the history of television one episode at a time. From family room sitcoms to space exploration shows, reality TV to procedurals and game shows, we're going to cover it all and give you the context you need to understand the wonderful world of television and the stories we love. Our current season is International TV. Our Logo is by Terra Bosart, the theme song is by Mandra Sigma and the show is edited by Jay Gagnon.

Australian cookbook author Nagi Maehashi promises her caramel slice recipe actually works. That the caramel won't be runny and that it won't crack or ooze when cut. She shared the recipe on her widely popular website RecipeTin Eats several years ago, and then last year noticed a recipe with uncanny similarities in a bestselling book by Brisbane bakery owner Brooke Bellamy. Bellamy has denied allegations that she plagiarised Maehashi's recipe, saying she has been making caramel slice herself since 2016. Lifestyle editor Alyx Gorman speaks to Nour Haydar about the recipe plagiarism allegations that have caused a stir in the cookbook world
There's a copyright stoush over caramel slice and Jeremy and Julia have thoughts. Can you own a recipe? And is "Julia Baird's caramel slice" also just "Nagi's Caramel slice"?And you might have noticed an election on the weekend, it was hard to miss. Labor won in a landslide, so how does the Coalition rebuild and how many women will be involved? JEREMY'S PICKhttps://interestingengineering.com/culture/2000-year-old-rice-brought-to-lifeJULIA'S PICKhttps://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/may/04/swedens-great-moose-migration-live-stream-ends-after-478-hours-viewing
Our thoughts on the Labor party win, Greens result and Liberal defeat. Coverage of the 2025 Met Gala and explanation of this years politically charged theme. Nagi vs Brooki caramel slice recipe debate intensifies. Erin Patterson, charged for murder after feeding her in-laws death cap mushrooms in 2023 is now on trial.
Did something big happen on the weekend? Well, yes, you could say that. Ah, but do you mean the historic election result that no-one saw coming? Prince Harry’s remarkably angry interview? Or, perhaps, the online food fight between Nagi Maehashi of Recipe Tin Eats fame and Brooke Bellamy of Brooki's Bakery? SO. MUCH. TO. CHOOSE. FROM. Welcome, Outlouders to this packed Monday episode of Mamamia Out Loud where Mia, Jessie and Holly debrief on all the news (and yeah, scurrilous gossip), anyone could ever wish for. PS. The viral scandal taking the internet by storm - cook Nagi Maehashi vs influencer/baker Brooke Bellamy. Allegations have been thrown around that Brooki has copied Nagi's recipe straight from her cook book and the internet has gone wild. Both have posted about the whole situation but no one is admitting fault. Intern Pete launched a PeterFiles to get to the bottom of it all - calling chefs and lawyers alike. Welcome back to the studio. This is My Day of Play, where you're taken into the real events and actions of how it happens long before the process of editing or cleaning up. The original purpose of these episodes was to give my broadcasting students something to edit, to practice with and to call their own. Then I realized that you are just as important. Share the reality of how it really went. We begin things with a very famous chef Nagi Maehashi who is hugely popular because of the website Recipe Tin Eats. There's a new book that's adding excitement to cooking its titled Delicious Tonight. Then we'll wrap things up Dr. Partha Nandi who hosts a global show that pulls in millions of viewers. Why? It's about healing your gut. This is My Day of Play. Completely unedited in the way of meeting the wizard behind the curtain.
