The question of “why am I here?” has been on humanity’s mind for millennia - and God has always answered it. Our struggle is with the humility it requires to accept the answer. The reason for why God made us lies in his desires - not needs.
This is the final part of our 3-part series on prayer. It's important to move from knowing about something to actually practicing & applying it. The same goes for all we've learned on prayer. Application of God's truth is what changes us - not just knowing it. We also had handouts that are available for aiding in your application in your life.
We MUST realize in our life the amazingness of our God. He ALWAYS deserves our worship and awe. But He is also ready to work in each of our lives individually. Are you ready? Do you have an open & honest relationship with God in prayer?
One morning years ago I went to water my garden and when I turned the hose on nothing came out but a dribble. I had nothing to give to the thirsty plants. I had to go to the source and unclog things. Just like the garden, our vertical flow in our prayer life is the most important part – it’s the purpose of prayer! We have nothing unless we have our vertical relationship right.
Fear, anxiousness, doubt, worry, depression, and other words we all love. This QnA Sunday dives in and starts to dismantle these issues in our lives.
So much to cover & so little time. 1 Corinthians has been as if we were reading the history books of the American church – yet it was not us. Humans have a tendency to take what God has made and use it incorrectly. Today we take a quick blast through 1 Corinthians and hit some key points from our study the last few months.
What motivates you? What makes you want to get up in the morning? What drives you to go out and experience all the day has for you? Sometimes we would answer that as “nothing”. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t motivated – it means we have different motivations. Today we talk about wrong motivators – we’re all motivated, it’s what motivates us that will change the world or have us withering into nothingness.
Driving something "like we stole it" implies recklessness, or lack of care. We STOP playing church when we realize that God has gifted is this life and we owe Him everything. The message from our God has always been to not worry about the this life – just use it to to HIS glory & the best of our ability. We need to drive it like HE stole it.
The validity of the bible & being afraid of God are topics that are discussed all over the world in private & public conversations. Is there a logical or rational way to find the answer? Is it all up to our own experiences and opinions? Or is there an answer in all the arguing?
The phrase “drive it like you stole it” means we treat something like it’s not ours and we have no consequences for the damage or destruction it experiences. For humanity, and even more specific – Christianity, that’s opposite of what we’re called to do. We called to live our lives as if someone else of great importance owns them. We are called to “drive it like HE stole it”. That would mean we drive it like HE says and how HE designed it. When we follow the Manufacturers guidelines we get the most out of the product.
Trying to get a group of people with differing ideas, passions, gifts, weaknesses and opinions to go in the same direction is DIFFICULT. The world has a simple way to describe it – it’s like herding cats. When it comes to the church & gathering together, sometimes we don’t take this advice seriously. The church isn’t a place for our pet projects or ideas to be worked out – the church is a place to serve others & in so doing, glorify God.
Have you ever started talking to someone then their eyes just glaze over? They haven’t heard a word you said and you said great stuff! It was important and powerful! Sometimes what is a blessing to me personally I think is ok to do all the time and I get consumed with myself and my benefts– but that’s not what God saved us unto. God saved us SO THAT we can be unifed with our family in humanity to HIS family in Spirit.
Have you ever been hit with a huge list of questions and you just aren’t sure where to start? Well that’s what happened at Rise this month! We had 8+ questions just from our riseKIDS ministry! We will be discussing everything from Mary, pregnancy, God’s birth, will-based love and much more!
When something is the greatest – there’s no room for another in it’s place or you devalue “the greatest”. Joy is something that is ALL consuming. Our level of joy will affect every area of our life and if we don’t have the greatest joy in us,motivating us, empowering us – we devalue the greatest joy.
Life is certainly not rainbows, unicorns, &i lollipops. It’s more often storms, stampedes, and stale food. But if God made us to have a need for joy – what do we do? Can we really have joy in everything?
Why does joy matter? Can’t I just float through life, enjoy the good times and endure the bad times? Why do we need to talk about joy and happy and all that? We were made to have joy – IN GOD is where it’s found. Joy is a choice –our will has to say yes to God in our life and no to our way.
We all struggle with joy. In fact, we might have given up on the fact that God wants us to have joy. Our main purpose in life is joy, but in what? Our joy’s foundation will determine if it’s unending or like the waves of the sea – up and down.
Today we discuss two topics that are surprisingly related – faith & hearing. Have you ever doubted your own faith? What about the faith of another? How can we reach those that we see are under CLEARLY false teachers or teachings? Then, how can I really know I am hearing God? How do I really know it’s Him and not someone else?
The original thing, the old school ways, are always called on to show how things REALLY should be done. If you want to know how to do something in it’s purest form, researching the original way is a great start. What about love? Is there a true form of love? Is there an original love?
Have you ever tried to imitate someone? You start out thinking about how they look, act, and respond to life. Then, you start to think, “what would they do?”. But being the same is not what God has called us to do. We are NOT all the same. We do NOT all have the same abilities to live life. But, we all need each other because our strengths work together to make a powerful hell-crushing movement that Christ said is unstoppable. Let’s do this – but frst, I need you to be different.
How many times has someone shared with you THEIR view of the Holy Spirit? They said the word “tongues” or used a phrase that didn’t make sense. Are there times where you felt completely confused about this “Spirit” and why it’s such a big deal – join the team! We all have the same issue Paul was wanting to help, which is why he starts with, “I don’t want you to be ignorant about spiritual things”
QnA Sunday time again – this week, it’s one topic, but a heavy one: forgiveness. What in your life are you holding onto because it was so evil, so horrible that you can’t let go? What in your past has shaped you today – but negatively? What “issues” do you have today because of what someone did yesterday? Christ died to free us with His UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. When we choose to not forgive, this cuts off our God’s love and makes us God...
Think of the poorest place you can. Picture the hunger, starvation, desperation, and pain. Now, picture a buffet set in the middle of the throngs of people. But there’s something sick happening – the buffet is being eaten by extremely overweight people and the area is sealed off by glass walls. How could they?! How heartless! This picture is sadly one of the “church” in many places. We feast on truth or fun or ease while the souls of others around us starve and pass away.
Our creator has designed everything and His design is PERFECT. He put a power in place that give us protection, accountability, and empowerment to live life how He designed. What is this power called?
This is our 5th Sunday event, Family Integrated QnA Service. We have kids & adults ask questions live and then we answer them!
Our lives are full of options to find pleasure. There are so many good things out there that are legal and fun for us – but does that mean its still a God thing for us? Does it mean that just because I am ok with it – that’s the best for me and my life in the great commission? If God asked you to remove something in your life, what thing would you say no, maybe, or hesitate?
Standing in town looking at a far off mountain, it appears beautiful but not very daunting. Stand at the base of it and you may just get back in your car. Why? Because you’re so close to it you see the details of it’s size, strength, and struggles. But what about God? Does he still make you stop and think at how amazing and powerful He is? If not, maybe you’re just not close enough to Him and forget how amazing He really is.
Sometimes we lose sight of our real mission in life. We start to focus on the things that make us feel like we are in control or that make us feel comfortable. God has always spoken to His people a message that we AREN’T in control and that we AREN’T going to be comfortable all the time – so what is life really about?
Sometimes taking what we deserve misses the bigger point and goal of life. Our job isn’t to be standing in line to get our rights met but to be on our face before God doing all He’s asked of us. Today we study when rights are wrong...
We can sometimes make our preferences or personal convictions into something that determines our value in front of people and God. Today we tackle two questions thatare centered in that arena: Soul Sleep & Singing
“It’s my right! I’ll do what I want to!” We all understand those statements, we have even said them. But what does that really cost? Are we willing to lose a friend over them? Are we willing to taint the gospel because of them? We wouldn’t say yes but we do with our actions. This isn’t new and today we study in 1 Corinthians how the rights of some were putting the souls of others in danger.
Some personalities can complicate EVERYTHING.Making pancakes can become a chore rather than simple breakfast with them. We can do that with our walk with Christ – we make it so complex and try to “do Christianity” rather than just be.
While we often see the world abuse sex - sadly, inthe name of "holiness" the church has abused sex also. Today's teaching is titled, "Sexual Misconduct" and we will wale through God's view of sex and what place it should taee in our lives as people of faith.
Christianity has been under attack since Jesus established it. Even His teachings of belief-based righteousness were attacked – even though He’s been teaching since time began. Often times we seen historical movements that try to return us to our roots and get us thinking about our past. While they remind us of much, theirs a temptation to think that our past defines our future – it doesn’t. If we forget this and get into a lifestyle that guilts us into faith we get weary. Today’s QnA Sunday tackles just these 2 things – law-keeping & weary faith.
We all go through seasons of anxiety, worry, panic, and many other forms of fear and concern that consumes our mind. Is there a cure? Is there a way out? YES! Today's message will be about just this - curing & protecting from these things in our lives.
Have you ever had trouble connecting with a person or a group of people? Sometimes that comes from just not getting along, but other times it’s our own concerns or fears that keep us from connecting & committing to that group.Today we will wrap up “What is Rise Chapel” and discuss WHO Rise Chapel is and what connecting looks like.
When someone doesn’t know why they do something it’s easy to distract them with other ideas or thoughts. They get led around by emotions and feelings rather than a mission and vision. Today we talk about the WHY of Rise Chapel. What are we all about?
This is Part 1 of this break from 1 Corinthians. Thefirst message is titled - “what is church”? Well, Church is NOT a meeting on Sunday but a people on a mission with eternal consequences. Also, we must remember, that the Church is made of people but it’s built on and held together by Jesus
When we are in the middle of a messy, loud, terrifying storm, we all will struggle with doubt, fear, faith, and many other emotions. The key to any season of life (storm or calm) is always in whom we seek out for purpose. When we seek out the wrong things or person we will ALWAYS be disappointed. Is there a place or person we can center our life on that guarantees to NEVER disappoint?
Please Welcome Guest Speaker, Randy Newcomb
Please welcome guest speaker, Doug Wever.
If you’ve listened to the teachings at Rise Chapel for any period of time, you’ve heard the phrase, “the bible is not written TO us but FOR us” That statement forces the student of the scriptures to seek out more than just a personal, feel-good quote but to dig out what is really in the verses being studied. Today’s question prompts that method to be discussed. Want to get more out of your bible today? Check out this QnA Sunday!
Sex. For too long the church has avoided this topic because of how sex has been misused and abused. The fact is, not talking about God’s design and stance on sex is misuse and abuse! Today at Rise Chapel – let’s talk about SEX.
Making #1 great again should be our daily goal. Sometimes we falsely try to removed the concept of “looking out for #1” in our lives. We can’t! God designed us this way and the solution is to make sure #1 is always Him. But how? What are the repercussions of not? What drives our God should drive us...
It’s terrifying to think about times when our own country has taken down one of our own because of misidentifcation. It’s no less scary to think of misidentifcation in times of panic or fear. The best way to prevent that is to havea goal and purpose that is beyond our own. Left to our own devices we (humans) will always look out for #1 – that won’t change. But we can change who/what #1 is...
This month’s QnA Sunday is powerful – we talk about a very often confusing topic related to prayer & Jesus. Then we jump right into the validity of other denominations and religions. An exciting time discussing some great questions!
