There is no preparing for devastating, life altering news. Alex and Kevin Morrissey could never prepare for the words, "I'm so sorry" and the news that would come regarding their son David. No one can prepare you for stillbirth. Alex is candid in the pain and devastation of what happens when you lose a baby and your arms leave a hospital empty. Alex's pain has fueled her to be a champion of those without a voice, and is the ultimate story of survival in wake of utter devastation. Part 1 is a walk through the pain of losing a baby and finding life and purpose in the years that would follow. In Alex's own words: “What I would say to my grieving self in those first years: It's not a betrayal of him or of his life to look for joy and to let that joy back in to your heart. You don't have to be crying in anguish for him to have mattered, for your love for him to be real.”
As I watched everyone post about back to school, it made me think about all the fear I had as my boys went through their senior year and off to college. I share the lies I was telling myself and the fear I had. Guess what? You're more than just “their mom.”
