Many people get stuck on their healing journey. They feel lost and confused. They've spent years in therapy, tried meditation, read all the books but still feel like they're just surviving instead of truly living. This is way more common than we would like to believe, and quite discouraging for those dealing with stress, burnout, or old emotional wounds. Even when you know you're safe, your body might still feel like it's in danger.  That's because healing isn't just about mindset, it's about your nervous system. And most healing methods skip the steps your body actually needs to feel safe at the nervous system level. In this episode, Dr. Aimie explains why one often gets stuck and what the nervous system really needs to move from overwhelm and a functional freeze into calm aliveness. You'll learn how the body experiences a trauma, why it holds on even for years after, and the step-by-step roadmap to give it what it needs to engage its own healing mechanisms. You'll learn more on: [1:46] Why many people avoid connecting with their body and stay “in their head” [4:05] How to tell if you're disconnected from your body [5:48] What happens in your body during a trauma response (and how it can get stuck) [8:48] Why just telling yourself “you're safe” doesn't make your body believe it [12:49] The hidden equation your nervous system uses to decide if you're still in danger [15:49] The surprising trait that can block healing   [18:16] Common signs you're in shutdown mode [21:51] The 3 major roadblocks that can slow down healing [22:52] Why you need cycles of stress and rest to heal [27:36] The 3-phase healing roadmap [29:32] How emotional healing works just like physical healing—and why skipping steps keeps you stuck Whether you're working on your own healing or helping others, this episode gives you the missing piece to understand what's really going on in the body and how to finally move forward.   Helpful Links Related To This Episode: Steps to Identify and Heal Trauma - A Roadmap for Healing - Find out what trauma is, how to recognize it, and get simple steps to help you heal in this 23-page guide. With years of experience both personally and professionally in addressing chronic skin conditions like psoriasis, Robyn unpacks the emotional, physical, and psychological journey clients often face when they begin functional healing protocols. From the initial optimism to the inevitable challenges—including the frustrating “Valley of Despair”—Robyn outlines the five emotional stages most clients experience and explains why staying consistent through the ups and downs is essential for long-term success. If you've ever felt discouraged by a lack of results despite “doing everything right,” this episode will help you reframe your expectations, recognize signs of deeper healing, and stay focused on the big picture. If you're ready to move beyond temporary fixes and start a healing process that's grounded in strategy, data, and expert support, visit The Clear Skin Lab to learn more. What happens when a woman who's lived like a "caged bird" for 25 years suddenly finds herself free? For Linda Magoon, freedom meant climbing mountains—specifically, all 48 of New Hampshire's 4,000-foot peaks. After decades in a controlling marriage where asking permission was the norm and independence was punished with silent treatments and anger, Linda reached what she calls her "tipping point" in her mid-50s. With the help of a crisis counselor, she realized she was experiencing domestic violence, even without physical abuse. Six months later, she was divorced and facing the terrifying prospect of creating a life entirely her own. That's when Linda rediscovered hiking. What started as a simple eight-mile solo trek became transformative medicine for her soul. Each summit conquered represented another step toward reclaiming her voice and identity. "The accomplishment of hiking a summit was in itself healing," she shares. Combined with a life-coaching program that introduced her to vision boards, affirmations, and the radical idea that it's okay to want things for yourself, Linda's mountain odyssey became the framework for her rebirth. The journey wasn't without challenges. Linda had to learn crucial distinctions between fear ("that small voice telling you you're not good enough") and instinct ("when your head, heart, and gut align"). She navigated solo hiking safety, extreme weather, and even the public shame when her ex-husband was later arrested for serious crimes. Through it all, the mountains offered perspective and healing.Today, Linda has transformed her experience into her book "Live Free and Hike: Finding Grace on 48 Summits" and recently embraced retirement with solo RV adventures. Her story reminds us that healing doesn't always come through traditional therapy—sometimes it arrives one step, one summit, one moment of freedom at a time.Want to hear more inspiring stories of transformation through travel? Your story has power—but only if you take the time to own it. Dr. Michelle Robin reflects on the decade since her life-altering bike accident, sharing how the real healing happened not just in her body, but in her mindset, her purpose, and her ability to receive. This part of the journey is about slowing down, listening deeper, and choosing to see the experience as something that happened for her, not to her. With honesty and heart, she invites us to ask better questions, embrace our own medicine, and build rhythms of well-being that support us when life shifts unexpectedly. Key Takeaways: Writing your wellness story can reveal patterns, healing gaps, and insights that support future growth. Empathy deepens when you've personally experienced pain, and that shift can transform how you show up for others. Learning to receive—help, support, love—is a skill that strengthens your ability to heal. Comparing your gifts to others only dims your light; your unique “medicine” is exactly what the world needs. Hope is the missing ingredient in many wellness journeys—find it, cultivate it, and protect it.   Connect with Dr. Michelle and Bayleigh at: https://smallchangesbigshifts.com hello@smallchangesbigshifts.com https://www.linkedin.com/company/smallchangesbigshifts https://www.facebook.com/SmallChangesBigShifts https://www.instagram.com/smallchangesbigshiftsco   Thanks for listening! After enduring childhood trauma, a near-fatal car accident at 20, and years of chronic stress, he found himself battling fatigue, digestive issues, anxiety, and persistent health struggles. Conventional medicine offered little relief, pushing him to seek answers beyond symptom management. This led him to explore functional nutrition, exercise, detox, biohacking, and circadian health—all of which played a role in his healing. However, the real breakthrough came when he discovered the nervous system's role in health and how unresolved trauma can manifest as chronic illness.Today, Mitch blends cutting-edge science with ancient wisdom to guide his clients through a holistic approach to healing. His methodology integrates nervous system regulation, mindset work, and somatic practices with foundational health principles—nutrition, movement, detox, and circadian rhythm—to help people not just manage symptoms but become their own medicine. Today's guest shares her story of postpartum psychosis, including the contributing factors, navigating the healthcare system, the overall lack of understanding of PMADs, and the preventative actions she took for her second pregnancy. She shares how her experience propelled her to take considerable steps to help and support others. Nancy Di Nuzzo, a mother of two, is an accountant-turned-postpartum doula. She is the founder of Anamav Postnatal Care, an agency providing comprehensive postpartum care in the Greater Toronto area. Their services include doula support, lactation support, psychotherapy, and sleep coaching. Nancy was inspired to create Anamav after her own traumatic postpartum experiences. As a perinatal mental health advocate, she is fiercely determined to support new parents and families to help fill the gaps in our healthcare system.  Show Highlights: Nancy's first pregnancy experience with her daughter, born in 2020: In summary, sleep deprivation led to the first postpartum psychotic episode and subsequent hospitalization. The labor and delivery and the first five days postpartum, when everything changed for Nancy Feeling the intensity of hyperdrive and an overwhelming need for perfection Hallucinations (not threatening or violent) and a break from reality that prompted a call to 911 A shocking twist: The ER records showed suspected postpartum psychosis, but they still discharged Nancy and prescribed sleeping pills; she ended up back there three days later. Cultural stigma and family interference that did not help Nancy Nancy's misdiagnosis from the psychiatrist: A bipolar disorder that required lifelong medication The first night in the hospital and the traumatic events that still haunt Nancy's memories Reconnecting with her daughter after a week-long stay in the hospital Preparing for a second pregnancy with preventative measures–and finding a very different birth and postpartum experience in 2023 Nancy's perspective on what SHOULD have happened during her first pregnancy and how we can do better in the area of awareness The facts: Every postpartum journey is different; problems can happen with a first, second, or third pregnancy—or with none at all.  Anamav Postnatal and how they work to help others Resources: Connect with Nancy Di Nuzzo and Anamav Postnatal: Website and Instagram Call the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-TLC-MAMA or visit cdph.ca.gov Please find resources in English and Spanish at Postpartum Support International, or by phone or text at 1-800-944-4773. With honesty and grace, she shares how building a foundation of wellness long before the accident became the anchor that supported her healing. This isn't just a story about recovery—it's a powerful reminder to know who you are outside your role, to listen when your body speaks, and to surround yourself with a community that lifts you when you can't stand on your own. Key Takeaways: Consistent wellness habits before a crisis can dramatically influence your ability to heal and recover. SuzAnne Taylor is a silversmith and artist whose journey into jewelry began as an act of survival. After serving as a combat medic in Iraq, she returned home carrying invisible wounds and found herself struggling to reconnect with everyday life. It was during a stay at a VA hospital that her psychiatrist encouraged her to find a hobby—something to do with her hands, something to focus her energy. That simple suggestion opened a door.A beginner's chainmail class led to her first bracelet, and something clicked. The rhythm, the repetition, the quiet demand for presence—each small step helped anchor her in the here and now. Over time, and with the support of a kind and generous mentor, SuzAnne began to build a new life through her work at the bench. Her work, especially her Tuff Gurlz line, honors the imperfect and the scarred, not only in the stones she chooses, but in the stories they represent—stories of survival, strength, and grace. This episode is a beautiful reminder that art often finds us when we need it most—and that making with our hands can bring us back home to ourselves. In this deeply personal and tender episode of the Deep Rooted Healing podcast, I share the story of discovering I had Hashimoto's—an autoimmune thyroid condition that marked the beginning of a powerful and unexpected healing journey. When I was first diagnosed, my lab results were the worst my doctor had seen. I was told I would need to be on thyroid medication for the rest of my life. And for many years, I followed that path, doing my best to manage my symptoms while carrying the weight of that prognosis. But over time—and through a series of quiet, intuitive nudges—I began to explore alternative healing practices. Reiki became a doorway into a different kind of relationship with my body, my voice, and my energy. I started to understand how much I had been holding in my throat: the unspoken words, the suppressed emotions, the fear of being too much or not enough. I began to heal not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually.Eventually, I made the decision to wean off the medication and trust in the healing journey I was walking. And now, 1.5 years later, my most recent labs show that my thyroid levels are normal and healthy—a shift that both humbles and amazes me.In this episode, I explore:The symptoms and diagnosis of Hashimoto's—and what the labs revealedLiving with the belief that I would always need medicationWhat led me to explore Reiki and other holistic healing practicesDeep work with the throat chakra and the emotional wounds held thereHealing my relationship with self-expression and reclaiming my voiceHow energy work and inner listening supported physical transformationThe miracle of my body's ability to heal, in its own sacred timeThis episode is an offering for anyone walking the path of chronic illness, emotional suppression, or self-discovery. It's a reminder that healing isn't linear, but it is possible—and that your voice, your truth, and your energy hold incredible wisdom.Mentioned in this episode:Reiki and intuitive healingThroat chakra workInner child connectionHealing through expression and voiceLab work and medical shifts over timeThank you for listening and being here with me.
