In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, today we will be looking at chapter 15, where the Apostle Paul begins to close this amazing letter with personal notes to specific people in Rome. As he does so, Paul exposes his heart for the body of Christ and gives his perspective on life and service. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 15, verse 17, and tells us the importance of “Getting the Right Perspective.”
Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we started looking at chapter 15 where the Apostle Paul summarizes his teaching by saying that Jesus Himself is to be our example of how to live this Christian life. Just as Christ did, we are to focus our actions on pleasing others, rather than ourselves … even to the point of surrendering our own rights in service to one another. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 15, verse 3, and tells us more about why “Our Example is Christ.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we now come to chapter 15 where the Apostle Paul summarizes his teaching in Romans by saying that Jesus Himself is to be our example of how to live this Christian life, not other believers. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 15, verse 1, and tells us why, always, “Our Example is Christ.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at chapter 14 where the Apostle Paul assures us that fellow believers will have differing opinions on how to live the Christian life. And knowing that, except for fundamental doctrines of our faith, Paul encourages us to give each other grace and latitude when it comes to those differences. But how far do we take that? Should we limit our own freedoms in Christ just to please other Christians? Let’s join Pastor Brian now and find out as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 14, verse 16, and tells us more about how to achieve Christian “Unity Despite Differences.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at chapter 14 where the Apostle Paul tells Christians to expect differences of opinions amongst fellow believers and how to treat each other when those differences become apparent. For one thing, Paul said we should determine not to be a source of stumbling to others by giving our brothers and sisters in Christ the latitude to believe as they do about non-essential matters of faith; in other words, we should encourage others in their faith, rather than debate them about small issues. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 14, verse 13, and tells us more about how to achieve Christian “Unity Despite Differences.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at chapter 14 where the Apostle Paul tells Christians to expect fellow believers to have differing opinions on how to live the Christian life. Knowing that, today, we’ll hear Paul tell us what we should do with that expectation to help us truly experience the unity of the Spirit, even amongst all of our differences. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 14, verse 13, and tells us how to achieve Christian “Unity Despite Differences.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at the beginning of chapter 14 where the Apostle Paul acknowledges that believers, united in faith in Jesus Christ, often have differing opinions on how to live the Christian life. However, as we’ll hear today, what we choose to do or not to do, usually isn’t the issue. What matters is the motive behind your action … or inaction, as the case may be. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 14, verse 4, and tells us how to achieve Christian “Unity Despite Differences.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we now come to chapter 14 where the Apostle Paul acknowledges that believers, united in faith in Jesus Christ, will often have differing opinions, even on spiritual matters. How should we handle those situations when we disagree with fellow Christians on how we are to live our lives as believers? Which differences really matter? Let’s join Pastor Brian now and find out as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 14, verse 1, and tells us how to achieve “Unity Despite Differences.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at a passage in chapter 13 where the Apostle Paul tells Christians to “owe no one anything except to love one another.” As we’ll hear today, Paul added a note of urgency to that call; in other words, love one another with the love of Christ … and do it now, without delay. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 13, verse 10, and tells us more about “How to Love Your Neighbor.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we come to a passage in chapter 13 where the Apostle Paul tells Christians to “owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.” As we’ll hear, that love is supposed to be like Jesus love for us … how do we do that? Let’s join Pastor Brian and find out as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 13, verse 8, and tells us “How to Love Your Neighbor.”
Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we started looking at chapter 13 where the Apostle Paul teaches Christians how, as citizens of heaven, we are to respond to earth’s governments. Last time we heard about the principle that earthly governments are raised up and torn down by God Himself; for that reason, Christians should be the best citizens. What’s the purpose behind submitting to governing authorities and how are we to put that into practice? Let’s join Pastor Brian now and find out as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 13, verse 3, and tells us more about “Heaven’s Citizens and Earth’s Governments.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we now come to chapter 13 where we find the clearest, most specific teaching in the New Testament about a Christian’s responsibility to the governing authorities. Are we subject only to the fair laws and benevolent rulers? Let’s join Pastor Brian now and find out as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 13, verse 1, and tells us about “Heaven’s Citizens and Earth’s Governments.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at a passage where the Apostle Paul teaches Christians to love one another with God’s agape love, and describes how that love looks in the life of a believer. Last time we heard Paul tell us to “bless those who persecute you.” As we’ll hear today, we’re also to “weep with those who weep” … and keep our opinions of ourselves in check. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 12, verse 15, and together we take “Another Look at Love.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at a passage where the Apostle Paul teaches Christians to love one another with God’s agape love, and describes how that love looks in the life of a believer. As we’ll hear, loving others is not always an easy thing to do, but absolutely necessary and possible with the help of God Himself. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 12, verse 14, and together we take “Another Look at Love.”
Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we began looking at a passage where the Apostle Paul teaches believers to love one another with God’s agape love, describing it as a sincere love that is completely without hypocrisy. Today we’ll hear that God’s love is also a devoted and fervent love, filled with genuine compassion for others. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 12, verse 10, and tells us more about the “The Look of Love.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we come now to a passage where the Apostle Paul teaches believers to sincerely love one another, without hypocrisy. While that may not be difficult with many, even most fellow Christians … how do we do that with people who, for whatever reason, rub us the wrong way? Let’s join Pastor Brian now and find out as he continues our study, picking it up at Romans chapter 12, verse 9, and tells us about the “The Look of Love.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at the early part of chapter 12 where the Apostle Paul teaches how important it is to renew our minds, including not only how we think of ourselves, but also how we think about fellow believers. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he continues our study, picking it up at Romans chapter 12, verse 4, and tells us about the importance of “Renewed Thinking.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at the early part of chapter 12 where the Apostle Paul teaches how important renewing our minds is to the process of surrendering our lives to God. As we continue on today, we’ll hear that a “renewed mind” includes forming a view of ourselves that is completely opposite of the world’s view. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he continues our study, picking it up at Romans chapter 12, verse 3, and tells us about the importance of “Renewed Thinking.”
Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we started looking at chapter 12, verse 2, where the Apostle Paul exhorts Christians to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” As we have heard, the first step in that process is to simply stop “being conformed to this world.”And, as we’ll hear today, the result of that is the joy of proving out what God’s good and perfect will is for our lives. How do we do that? Let’s join Pastor Brian now and find out as he continues our study of Romans chapter 12, verse 2, and explains why “Your Mind Matters.”

In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at the very beginning of chapter 12 where the Apostle Paul exhorts Christians to “present your bodies a living sacrifice” to God. As we’ll hear today, part of that surrender involves what Paul calls “the renewing of your mind.” Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 12, verse 2, and explains why “Your Mind Matters.”
Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we began looking at the first verse of chapter 12 where the Apostle Paul says, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” As we have heard, this verse beautifully explains what the ultimate act of worship for a Christian is to be ... the unreserved surrender of your heart and soul to Jesus. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he continues our study of Romans chapter 12, verse 1, and tells us more about “The Supreme Act of Worship.”

In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at chapter 11 where the Apostle Paul takes time to vindicate God's faithfulness both to His Word and to His people Israel. Last time, we heard that there will be a future glorious restoration of the Jewish people, as a nation, to their God through faith in Jesus Christ ... but, not until something else happens first. What is that? The "fullness of the Gentiles must come in," which will happen when the last Gentile who will receives Jesus as Lord and Savior, and the body of Christ is complete. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 11, verse 26, and continues to ask the question: “What About the Jews?”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at chapter 11 where the Apostle Paul takes time to vindicate God's faithfulness both to His Word and to His people Israel with three points. First we heard that God hasn't completely rejected His chosen people, as evidenced by the remnant of Jews who have accepted and continue to receive Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Secondly, we heard that their rejection as a people and nation is only temporary. Today, we'll take a look at Paul's third point, that there will be a future glorious restoration of the Jewish people, as a nation, to their God through faith in Jesus Christ. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 11, verse 25, and continues to ask the question: “What About the Jews?”
Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we started looking at chapter 11 where the Apostle Paul takes time to vindicate God's faithfulness both to His Word and to His people, Israel, with three points. So far, we've heard that one evidence that God hasn't completely rejected His chosen people is that some Jews were being saved in Paul's day, just as a remnant of Jews have continued to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior ever since. Today, we'll hear the second point, that their rejection as a people and nation is only temporary. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 11, verse 11, and continues to ask the question: “What About the Jews?”

So far in our study of chapter 10 of the Book of Romans, we’ve heard that every believer has a vital role in sharing the simple, yet life-changing truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ with non-believers. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 10, verse 16, and tells us more about our “Call to Witness.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, in chapter 10 the Apostle Paul has been making it clear that the gospel of Jesus Christ is a simple message that is simple to receive, and that God is involved in every step of the process. Now Paul goes on to tell us about how that gospel message is to be shared. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 10, verse 14, and gives us “A Call to Witness.”
In chapter 9 of our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, the Apostle Paul made it clear that if you believe in Jesus Christ for salvation, it means that God chose you … you didn’t choose Him. Even so, as we heard last time when we started looking at chapter 10, Paul goes on to explains that we are not senseless pawns in the operation of our own salvation. We each have an important part to play. So far we’ve heard what our part does NOT include … and that includes a religious fervency that is based on adherence to rules and traditions. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 10, verse 3, and tells us more about what “Doing Our Part” means when it comes to salvation … and what doing our part is not.
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we come now to chapter 10 where the Apostle Paul emphasizes the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by first using the nation of Israel as an example of missing the mark, of having a misguided zeal for traditions rather than a sincere and saving heart for God. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 10, verse 1, and tells us what “Doing Our Part” means when it comes to salvation … and what doing our part is not.
Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we started looking at chapter 9 where the Apostle Paul deals head on with a teaching that has long been debated by Christians, and that is the doctrine of predestination versus election. In other words, does God alone choose those whom He will save? Or do people choose to believe or not believe, regardless of God’s choice? Last time, Pastor Brian reminded is that God is still being faithful to His Word today, particularly in regard to Israel, who as a people, have largely turned away from God by rejecting His Son; clearly, God has is not done with Israel. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 9, verse 14, and encourages us to “Let God Be God.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we come now to chapter 9 where the Apostle Paul deals head on with a teaching that has long been debated by Christians, and that is the doctrine of predestination versus election. Let’s join Pastor Brian now and find out as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 9, verse 1, and encourages us to “Let God Be God.”
Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we began to look at the last part of chapter 8, where we are told in verse 31 that “if God is for us,” no one can successfully come against us. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 31, and tells us three more reasons why that is unquestionably true for “The Conquering Christian.”

Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we started to look at one of the most encouraging passages in the entire Bible, Romans 8:28, where we are told that, for God’s children, all things work together for good. So far, Pastor Brian has told us the first of four comforting truths that he sees in that declaration, and that first truth is that God has made a promise concerning His children in that passage, and it is to be claimed and not ignored! Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 28, and tells us three more comforting truths about the fact that whatever happens to born-again believers in Jesus, “It’s All for Good.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we now come to one of the most encouraging passages in the entire Bible, Romans 8:28, where we are told that, for God’s children, all things work together for good. How can that be when things happen in life that can in no wise be classified as “good”? Let’s join Pastor Brian now and find out as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 28, and assures us that whatever may happen in a born-again Christian’s life, “It’s All for Good.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we are in chapter 8 where Paul has been telling us that, in addition to the joy involved with walking by the Spirit, born-again believers can expect something else as part and parcel of life as a Christian: suffering. Really? Yes! Even so, Paul offers three words of encouragement in the midst of suffering. Last time we heard about the first one, that we have incomparable glory waiting for us just ahead! Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 19, and gives us two more words of encouragement about experiencing both the “Agony and the Ecstasy” of the Spirit-Filled life.
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we are in chapter 8 where Paul has talking about living lives that are led by the Holy Spirit, and encouraging us about our relationship with God as His dearly loved children. In the midst of that, Paul goes on to tell us another ingredient of leading a Spirit-filled life: suffering. Really? Yes! Expect it. And, yes, by encouraged by it. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 18, and tells us about “The Agony and the Ecstasy” of living the Spirit-Filled life.
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, Paul has been giving us four evidences to affirm to us that we are sons of God, adopted by Him. So far, we have heard that God’s kids will be led by the Holy Spirit, and started to hear about the “spirit of adoption” that born-again believers are given, the one that makes us cry out to our Heavenly Father as “Abba” or “Daddy,” filled with love and affection. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 16, and gives more evidences to reveal “Who Are the Sons of God?”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, Paul has been giving us four evidences to affirm that we are sons of God, adopted by Him. Last time, we heard about the first affirmation, that God’s kids will be led by the Holy Spirit, no question about it. Today we’ll hear about the inner affirmation that born-again believers have that Paul calls the “spirit of adoption,” the sense that we are God’s own beloved children. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 15, and helps us answer the question: “Who Are the Sons of God?”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, Paul has been comparing what it’s like to walk according to the flesh versus trusting God to lead our lives completely. When we do surrender our wills to Jesus, Paul says that we will definitely be led by the Spirit in our daily walk. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 14, and tells us three ways that the Spirit leads us.
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, Paul has been comparing what it’s like to walk according to the flesh versus trusting God to lead our lives completely. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 14, and tells us about the first of those four things: being “Led By the Spirit.”
Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we started looking at a passage in chapter 8 where the Apostle Paul compares two radically different lifestyles, one governed by the flesh and worldly desires and the other led by the Spirit of God. So far we’ve heard that being carnally minded leads to a life of compromise and even destruction. Today we’ll also hear about the completely different outcome that is a result of keeping our minds set on the things of God. Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 6, and tells us about the "The Flesh Versus the Spirit."
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we now come to a point in chapter 8 where the Apostle Paul lays out two radically different lifestyles, one governed by the flesh and worldly desires and the other led by the Spirit of God. I’ll bet you can guess which lifestyle Paul said Christians should adopt! Last time, in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we began looking at chapter 8, where the Apostle Paul said, right at the outset that even though Christians do daily struggle with sin, there is now "no condemnation from God" when we fail. How can that be? Let’s join Pastor Brian now and find out as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 2, and tells us why there is "Now No Condemnation."
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we now come to chapter 8, one of the most encouraging chapters in the Bible for Christians. In chapter 7, the Apostle Paul had just laid out the struggle with sin that every Christian wrestles with; here in chapter 8, Paul tells believers in Jesus that, despite our daily battle with our flesh, "There is now no condemnation from God." Could any truth be more liberating that that? Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 8, verse 1, and tells us why there is "Now No Condemnation."
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at chapter 7 where the Apostle Paul examines the relationship between the Law of God and Christians. Today we’ll hear Paul answer the two-fold question every believer asks themselves at one time or another, “Why do I still sin? And, why don’t I do the things I know I should and truly want to do?” Let’s join Pastor Brian now as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 7, verse 15, and continues to look at the relationship between “You and God’s Law.”
In our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Romans, we have been looking at the beginning of chapter 7 where the Apostle Paul examines the relationship between the Law of God and believers in Jesus Christ. We have heard that, as Christians, we are no longer under the law, but set free from it by grace. Knowing that, what good is the law to born-again believers then? Let’s join Pastor Brian now and find out as he picks up our study at Romans chapter 7, verse 7, and continues to look at the relationship between “You and God’s Law.”
