Has God given up? Abandoned His people? Lost control of the story? Romans 11 answers with a resounding no. This week we see three movements in God's unfinished work: His grace preserving a remnant when all seemed lost, His mercy expanding to include the nations, and His wisdom so vast and unsearchable that the only right response is worship. God hasn't dropped the thread. He never has. From him and through him and to him are all things—and that changes everything about how we trust Him with ours.

Paul loves Israel dearly, and wants them to know that Jesus is, in fact, their promised Messiah. In preaching about putting the law to death, he doesn't want to communicate that Israel has somehow been forgotten or rejected in the process. While not all of Israel will be saved, there will be a remnant chosen by grace. Paul turns to address the Gentiles of Rome directly to show them how important Israel is to their salvation. If you are a Gentile Christian, you are a wild branch grafted into someone else's tree. But what of the original covenant? God has not abandoned His people. Though many have fallen away, he kept a remnant by grace, and Paul himself is the proof. But what does Paul mean when he says, "all Israel will be saved"? For in that case, God's grace would not be what it really is, free and undeserved. There is enough love to go around to everyone, Jew and Gentile alike. And that love goes beyond anything we could ever imagine or hope for. Oh, how great are God's wisdom and riches and knowledge. Oh, how impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways. But it is what it is. And what it is is awesome, undeserved grace given to all. So let's trust Him. It's about what he has done for us. It's about Him. So let's live in him and live in the light of his boundless mercy and grace even today. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love.
