The start of 2020, was hands down one of the hardest starts to a year for my struggle with my mental health, was a massive challenge but a challenge I am glad I not only had to face but one that I was able to bounce back from! I hope that listening to these episodes have helped you in some way or another in finding it normal to talk about your feelings and some of the challenges you are or have faced throughout your life. Stay ChatTY works to promote positive mental health and prevent suicide by normalising conversations about mental health and encouraging people to seek help when they need it. Mitch has played a major role around educating on only Tasmania's but several others around the country of the importance of checking in on not only your mates but most importantly yourself. Mitch along with his staff at SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY have held over 600 talks around mental health and suicide prevention within schools, sporting clubs and business big or small around the country! As Mitch explains throughout our chat SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY wasn't an organisation he wishes he ever had to make but at the same time is extremely proud of how far it has come! Mitch and I spoke about the unfortunate passing of his brother, finding his purpose in life, the ups and downs that come with creating a charity and so much more!     On this weeks episode, I was lucky enough to sit down with former AFL player Shaun Edwards! Edwards was drafted by Greater Western Sydney in 2011, where he played his debut year in the NEAFL (North East Australian Football League) before the club moved into the AFL in 2012. Shaun would go on to play over 20 games between the Giants and Bombers before being delisted and picked back up by the Sydney Swans ahead of the 2017 AFL season.  Unfortunately, Shaun was unable to play any games for the Swans, however, as Edwards mentions throughout our chat playing football at that stage was the last thing on his mind. Edwards and I spoke about the ups and downs of his AFL career, his current work with House of Darwin, growing up in the Northern Territory and so much more hope you enjoy!     Affectionately known as Lakeisha ‘Lucky' Patterson, the 20-year-old has already represented her country at the Paralympics, Commonwealth Games, World Para Swimming Championships and the Pan Pacific Para Championships. After watching the 2012 London Para Olympics ‘lucky' made the bold statement to her mum that in four years she would not only be at the 2016 Rio Olympics but would win gold! ‘Lucky' went on to smash that goal by not only winning gold but also breaking the world record in both the 400m freestyle and the Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay. ‘Lucky' and I spoke about growing up with a disability, her rise to becoming a world champion, struggles, triumphs and so much more!     Reuben William is a former professional Australian rules footballer who was drafted by the Brisbane Lions in the 2016 rookie draft Reuben and his family migrated to Australia in 2002 when William was four, and he hasn't looked back.     Tremendous agility, pace, panache, and aerial prowess combined to make Sydney Swans great Michael O'Laughlin one of the most exciting players to ever play the game! Michael proved his doubters wrong when he was drafted in 1995 to the Sydney Swans with pick 40 but as he mentions throughout our chat, Sydney wasn't where he really wanted to go. ‘Micky O' would go on to have an incredible career with the Swans boasting an incredible resume. 303 AFL games, 521 AFL goals, two All Australian selections (1997 & 2000), 2005 premiership, 1998 Swans Best & Fairest and 2015 Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee just to name a few of his amazing accomplishments. O'Laughlin retired after the 2009 season as one of the most decorated and beloved players in the AFL. Michael and I spoke about his journey to the AFL, life, struggles, triumphs and so much more!     Was awesome to be able to sit down a have a chat to another good mate, Sam Siggins, this week. - Sam was drafted with pick 62 by the Crows in 2012, unfortunately dealing with mental health and several injury setbacks Sam was unable to play an AFL game which would later force him to make the move back to Tasmanian at the end of 2015!
