Text Us Your Feedback! (Likes, Dislikes, Guest/Conversation Recommendations). In this special Movember kickoff episode, Boysen Hodgson sits down with senior researcher Brian Heilman to unpack The Real Face of Men's Health—Movember's most ambitious report to date. They dive into why men's health is a social issue, not just a personal one, and why caregiving, connection, and mental health are central to building a better future for men and the people who love them.Brian shares surprising—and sobering—data on life expectancy, the loneliness epidemic, caregiving burdens, and suicide rates across racial and geographic lines. Together, they explore what the data tells us about modern masculinity and how men can break free from outdated norms to live longer, healthier, and more connected lives. This episode is an urgent call to action for men to show up—not just for themselves, but for the people who need them. This week, author and ADHD coach Dr Tamara Rosier joins Sam and Katie to explore one of the most overlooked aspects of ADHD- emotional regulation- and why it's so often misunderstood, especially in men.As part of Movember and Men's Mental Health Month, they discuss why so many men with ADHD struggle to recognise and express emotions, how that can lead to anger, burnout and shame, and what it really means to live in “hyper” or “hypo” arousal. Dr Rosier explains the neuroscience behind these emotional extremes and shares practical tools for widening your “window of tolerance”- from body check-ins to sensory grounding and even “run-crying”.Sam opens up about his own experiences of suppressing feelings, self-criticism and learning to sit with discomfort rather than explode, while Katie reflects on how generations of men have been taught to hide vulnerability. This is a conversation about understanding what's really going on beneath the surface and why learning to manage your emotions isn't weakness, but one of the bravest and most transformative parts of ADHD self-awareness.New episodes of You're Wrong About ADHD are available every Wednesday and Friday. CLICK HEREWho we areBlock Club Chicago is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit news organization dedicated to delivering reliable, relevant and nonpartisan coverage of Chicago's diverse neighborhoods. We believe all neighborhoods deserve to be covered in a meaningful way.We amplify positive stories, cover development and local school council meetings and serve as watchdogs in neighborhoods often ostracized by traditional news media.Ground-level coverageOur neighborhood-based reporters don't parachute in once to cover a story. They are in the neighborhoods they cover every day building relationships over time with neighbors. We believe this ground-level approach not only builds community but leads to a more accurate portrayal of a neighborhood.Stories that matter to you — every daySince our launch five years ago, we've published more than 25,000 stories from the neighborhoods, covered hundreds of community meetings and send daily and neighborhood newsletters to more than 130,000 Chicagoans. We've built this loyalty by proving to folks we are not only covering their neighborhoods, we are a part of them. Some of us have internalized the national media's narrative of a broken Chicago. We aim to change that by celebrating our neighborhoods and chronicling the resilience of the people who fight every day to make Chicago a better place for all.

Ep34 Show notesWhen Andrew Robinson set out to jump into a freezing New Zealand lake every day for 100 days, he wasn't chasing followers, he was chasing connection. The project became Tough Yarns, a movement blending physical challenge, vulnerability, and men's mental health. In this conversation, Andrew and Stretch unpack how discomfort builds character, why we struggle to ask for help, and how conversation itself can save lives. They explore the science of suffering, rites of passage, and Andrew's next mission: a 5,500 km solo ride across New Zealand for Movember. You'll leave this episode reminded that doing hard things isn't about proving toughness, it's about discovering truth, purpose, and connection.Andrew's Website: https://toughyarns.com/Andrew's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/toughyarns/Andrew's YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@toughyarnsAndrew's Movember Donations: https://nz.movember.com/mospace/15361970Join The Midlife Mavericks Skool Community: https://www.skool.com/midlife-maverick/about Key TakeawaysDiscomfort builds connection. Doing something hard — like cold water plunges — lowers defenses and opens space for honesty.Courage starts with curiosity. Asking deeper questions, even of strangers, creates real human connection.Men need modern rites of passage. Without structured transitions, many men stay stuck in the “warrior” phase and burn out.Vulnerability is leadership. Sharing your story first gives others permission to do the same.Ask and listen. Not everyone needs fixing — sometimes they just need space to be heard.Service creates meaning. Andrew's 5,500 km Movember ride proves that personal challenge can drive collective change.Chapters:00:00 Introduction to Andrew Robinson's Journey03:28 The Power of Physical Challenges06:32 Exploring Mental Health Through Physicality09:31 Personal Reflections on Family and Growth12:27 Lessons Learned from Challenges15:33 The 100-Day Cold Lake Challenge18:41 Engaging Strangers and Building Connections21:36 The Impact of Vulnerability and Trust23:45 Self-Discovery Through Challenges27:40 The Importance of Vulnerability30:35 Rites of Passage and Masculinity36:09 Transitioning from Physical to Emotional Challenges41:21 The Journey of a 5,500 km Bike Ride47:20 Breaking Down Communication Barriers48:09 The Journey of Self-Discovery49:33 Transforming Sales into Genuine Communication50:25 The Impact of Social Media on Mental Health Conversations51:58 The Power of Group Dynamics in Conversations52:50 The Connection Between Physical Movement and Emotional Well-being55:17 Creating Safe Spaces for Vulnerability57:11 The Importance of Listening in Relationships01:00:48 Navigating Difficult Conversations01:02:07 Understanding Others' Struggles01:05:07 Setting Boundaries in Conversations01:09:09 Future Aspirations and Community Engagement01:11:23 Introduction to Tough Yarns and Movember Ride

53% of American men are now dying before the age of 75—and that trend is getting worse.  Clinical psychologist Zac Seidler, Director of Men's Health Research at Movember, joins Offline to delve into how men misconstrue wellness in an increasingly digital world. Zac's work exposes how male influencers, podcasters, and cultural and political figures are shaping young men's views on masculinity, their relationships, and their overall health and wellbeing. But first! Jon opens up about teaching his own sons about strength and pride, and the myriad ways someone like George Retes is a better role model than the second most powerful elected official in the United States. For a closed-captioned version of this episode, click here.
