As broadcast October 9, 2023 with plenty of good vibes in tow for the festival hangover. Tonight, in our final edition of the Busking World Cup Special Series, we welcomed two very talented artists to the studio for a heavy dose of folk, classics, and just downright sunshine as one of the best ongoing events in Gwangju wraps its 2nd edition. First hour we welcomed Pompey native folk singer Sam Brothers to the show, who not only is the spitting image of David Bowie and Mick Jagger's long-rumored love child, but also took us on a journey of influences across a variety of eras and styles. For our final busking guests of the week, we welcomed Steph and Georgie Fisher, who are the Sydney-born Berlin-based duo that comprise Sissos. Much like their own places of connection in this world, they showcased some of their friends from both places, and talked about the duality of family and artistry in a fascinating and exceedingly funny interview to wrap the week properly.#feelthegravityBusking World Cup 2023 Special #62023.10.09Tracklist (st:rt) Part 1 with Sam Brothers (00:00)Sam Brothers – Still I'm Here, As AlwaysColter Wall – The Devil Wears A Suite and Tie (Original 16 Brewery Sessions)Sonny Terry – Key To The Highway (Live at Sugar Hill)Devendra Banhart – Now That I KnowVan Morrison – Star of the County DownJoanna Newsom – Easy Part 2 (37:56)Sam Brothers – Gwangju Busking World Cup App VideoBob Dylan – On More Cup of CoffeeJoni Mitchell – CaliforniaJeff Buckley – GracePlanxty – As I Roved Out Part 3 with Sissos (69:08)Sissos – You Can't Have BothJessie Monk – Gets Me DownStu Larsen – Lost in a HazeJoe Mungovan – Soaking Up The SunshineSonny Casey – A Thousand Setting SunsMichael Brinkworth – Good Old Feeling Part 4 (1:43:10)Sissos – Leave My Dreams for MeFirst Aid Kit – My Silver LiningLucas Laufen – WeatheringJulia Jacklin – ComfortJudy Blank – KaraokePaul Kelly – To Her Door

This week on the Road Trip Playlists Podcast we talk with indie royalty and the Australian band Boy & Bear. Host Thomas Darro is joined by Tim Hart (Drums) and Dave Symes (Bass) on this episode of the podcast. Thomas shares with Tim that he was the first concert that he saw when he moved to New York City and he opened as a solo act for friend of the show Stu Larsen and the special night it was. Boy & Bear have topped the ARIA charts, their debut album 'Moonfire' went double platinum, and it all happened very fast, they talk about if the band was prepared for the success it had. We also talk about health issues with lead vocalist Dave Hoskings preventing the band from playing together and what that period of uncertainty was like as friends and bandmates. They talk a bit about their newest single 'State of Flight' and an upcoming album that will be released. It is a really fun interview and we hope you enjoy it. Thank you for listening as always. This week's episode of The Road Trip Playlists podcast is a special one. Stu Larsen is an incredible singer-songwriter from Australia, and he is also the first concert that I ever was assigned to write about. I moved to New York City with no plan and somehow got a shot at music journalism, and the first concert I ever reviewed was a special one all because of Stu Larsen. It was a pleasure to share this story with him. We also talk about his amazing travels, he has been traveling for the last 15 years and has some amazing stories. We discuss how he ultimately took the leap to pursue music, Passenger producing his album 'Vagabond' and their friendship, as well as what happens when you get back together with the person you wrote a breakup album about. This episode was a joy for me and I hope it is for you as well. Thanks for listening. www.roadtripplaylists.com --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Stu Larsen is an Aussie singer/songwriter with a wild streak of wanderlust and a knack for tastefully marrying narrative and melody. Emerging in 2014 with the aptly named Vagabond, his congenial folk-pop is both exploratory and inclusive, a love letter to the power of music and travel. Christian and Stu really get into this one and have an incredibly engaging conversation about life and music. Episode Website: https://tinyurl.com/46StuLarsen
On this weeks episode I sat down and spoke to Jed Appleton a talented musician who was Born in Wamoon NSW, a small country village in the middle of nowhere, Jed began writing music and performing in and out of churches since the age of 8. At 12, his family packed up & relocated to Tasmania, after what he describes as “being on the run for several years.” Throughout my chat with Jed we spoke about the ups and downs of his music career, sharing the stage with other amazing artists such as Passenger, Matt Corby, Stu Larsen, & many more, his childhood, dealing with bipolar disorder and so much more! Jed's amazing mindset and the way he approaches each challenge he faces head-on both as a musician and personally is something i was truly amazed by! I hope you enjoy hearing Jed's amazing story as much as I did! If this is your first time listing to the podcast I'd just like to say a massive thank you for checking it out!

Stu Larsen is a talented musician, known for songs like San Francisco and Thirteen Sad Farewells. He's also no stranger to sharing the stage with other amazing artists, like Ed Sheeran, The Once and Passenger (you may have seen that little YouTube hit Passenger - Let Her Go that's been watched more than 2.5 billion times). I approached Stu Larsen about doing this interview after one of his shows in Toronto. It was the 2nd time I'd seen him perform and I was so blown away by the experience that I knew I needed to have him on the podcast to find out what makes him, him. I sat in silence after we recorded this episode and reflected on what I had learned about his life as an artist and world traveler. He truly is the sort of person that makes you stop and take a deep breath. His love of creating music and capturing the world around him is so pure, as is the joy he gets out of simply being alive. I urge you to listen to every album by Stu Larsen and every word of this conversation. There is beauty and honesty in what he has to say and his perspective on life just may change your own. As a shy kid from Bowenville, Queensland, the odds were stacked up against Stu to become a world touring singer-songwriter. After playing covers and working at a bank for 3 years, he packed up his car and traveled around Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Working double duty as a tour manager and artist led him … Continue reading "Stu Larsen"
His second album "Resolute" is a travelogue of his wanderlust, relating the places he’s been to his romantic relationships.
You’re going to remember Adam Burrows. As a songwriter and performer of singular accomplishment, Burrows’ warm and witty observations explore the beautiful landscapes found just beyond familiar horizons. Unpretentious and conversational, he offers songs that reflect his small town upbringing, celebrating the simplest of everyday moments in the words of characters that remain with you like old friends. As a gifted storyteller who’s practiced his rhythm, Adam delivers these narratives with percussive finger-picking and melodies that can haunt your idle moments for days. There’s just something honest, fresh, and unique about Adam’s style that resonates. Respected Nashville DJ, Wells Adams says, “Adam Burrows is one of the best lyricists in this town, which is saying a lot in Music City, USA. I have lost count of the number of times I have featured him on my radio show and I’m itching to spin more of his records. He has played our showcases (Lightning 100) and left audience members and fellow musicians alike in awe. This guy is the real deal.” Adam’s formative years in his native Ohio prepared him to make a move to Nashville, and in the decade that’s since passed, the evidence has shown that it’s where he ought to be. He’s been spotlighted for his exceptional work at respected venues across the region, been nominated in annual song writing competitions, and maintained an honored presence on radio programmers’ playlists, in Nashville and distant airwaves elsewhere. He’s not one to hunker down in one spot, though— Burrows has toured the United States and Canada, and ranged as far as Sicily, Ireland, and Germany at the invitation of grateful audiences and other artists who admire his work. Internationally-known, Australian artist, Stu Larsen writes, “When Mike (Passenger) and I were on the road in North America last year, a guy came up to me after a show in Washington D.C. and gave me three of his road trip CDs which he thought we might like. We fell in love with one of them in particular, an album called Tall Tales by Adam Burrows. It quickly became a favourite and I’ve had a number of these tracks stuck in my head over the last six months. In fact, I loved these songs so much that I got in touch with Adam to tell him how much I loved his work and I ended up inviting him to tour with me through North America. I love how this world connects people.” Adam has played at respected venues and festivals such as Musikfest, BMI’s 8 Off 8th, YouBloom LA, Bluebird Cafe, Musicians Corner, and Music City Roots. He was nominated for the Deli Nashville’s Best of 2012 Poll for Emerging Artists and was a Top eight finalist in Lightning 100’s 2013 Music City Mayhem contest. Last year Adam recorded a Daytrotter Session, was selected for an official showcase at Folk Alliance International, was chosen as a finalist in the South Florida Folk Festival’s songwriting competition, toured on the Song and Whispers Songwriter’s circuit in Germany, and had his song “Right” featured as a top-ten song of the week in Alternate Root Magazine. Following up his three previous albums, Tall Tales, Never One for Silence, and Forward, he is currently working on a fourth album, and perfecting his newer material in live performances as often as possible.
