We are going to discuss the major events that happened this year, many of which we've already forgotten about as the next extreme event or news cycle chaos hit. We'll go through the major extreme weather events across the world and the impact on communities, we'll talk politics as we're nearly a year into the Trump Presidency and well, it's been a rollercoaster in its own right, we will discuss the economy, AI, social media, and a whole lot more! Our final guest for the year is Simone Heng. An award-winning author, Certified Speaking Professional, and Board Member for the Foundation for Social Connection, Simone helps organisations embed connection to drive performance, productivity and retention, and in the world of rapid AI advancement, her message is more important than ever. She first published the ‘Secret Pandemic: The Search for Connection in a Lonely World', which was re-worked into ‘Let's Talk About Loneliness” and published by Hay House Publishing in 2023. This book has gone on to win six awards, including a silver Nautilus book award, and suffice to say, we're delighted she is joining us. Not only is this another show you can't miss, it's also our last for 2025, so come and get your yearly recap, because it's certainly been a big year in the news on many levels. The Sh*t Show: update from the UK national emergency briefing

Send us a textOn 27th November, ten of the UK's leading experts briefed an invite-only audience of 1,250+ politicians and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media about the implications of the planetary crisis on health, food, national security and the economy. Organizers said the climate and nature crisis is a multi-pronged emergency that will impact all aspects of British life, from national security to food security. Speakers presented the latest evidence, clarifying what is at stake, and outlined actionable solutions. Our guest was in attendance, reporting on the event, and she is going to share her biggest take-aways.  So, we will spend our first hour focussed on this (which is relevant globally), and then it'll be time to get into the news. Following on from last week, the extreme weather catastrophe across Asia finally received the global attention it deserved as the magnitude of the disaster became apparent – and we still don't know final numbers – while in Japan, a disturbing move has the world on edge, so we'll dig into what that's all about. In other news, in the US we have a war criminal without a war, Thames Water is being sued as more people become sick due to pollution, nine million birds are dead due to Bird Flu (future pandemic?), the Ukraine peace plan went awry maybe, the ocean is about to release a massive heat “burp” so what does that mean (?), and more will be discussed as the news never stops. Our very special guest is Monica Piccinini, a freelance journalist focused on environmental, health and human rights issues. She is also a recent award winner, clinching The Sustainability, Environmental Achievement, and Leadership (SEAL) Award – which recognizes her work for top-notch investigative reporting! Monica covers the world, but one area she works tirelessly to cover are issues surrounding the Amazon rainforest, where she exposes the state and corporations' that are destroying it, their human rights violations against its indigenous peoples, and how this crucial ecosystem is central to the survival of us and the planet. Originally from Brazil but based in the UK, Monica covers issues from around the world, so we are absolutely thrilled she is joining us this week. Another show you can't miss, where you'll not only get a front row seat to the UK's national emergency briefing, but also our unique insights into all the other news blaring across our screens every day. Don't miss out, Friday 5th December 2025, 7am UK, 8am EU, 11am UAE, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 6pm AEST. We are guest-free this week, which provides an opportunity to dig deeper into some of the topics we've been covering this season, and the biggest focus is on money… well, the economy more broadly. We always discuss the economy in relation to what's happening in the news, going as deep as we can, because we know it's the wider implications of what's going on that really matter when it comes to the economy – debt, climate impacts, and more. It's a conversation requiring nuance, something we seem allergic to these days. We'll talk about Cop30 and the lack of funding promised to developing countries, along with why it's never going to happen. The UK had a new budget announced this week, and no one is excited about it, so what is happening? Crypto has been falling apart and the global economy has been on the edge of collapse for months – what's really going on? Is it more than the AI bubble? We'll also talk about other big issues in the news, like the flood devastation happening right now in Southeast Asia, with Vietnam expecting Typhoon Verbena to strike this Friday, after already suffering three extreme flooding events in three weeks. Hundreds are dead across the region, with millions displaced, and more rain is expected. Why is it so extreme? Well according to experts, two major climate systems - La Niña and a negative Indian Ocean Dipole - have combined, supercharging rainfall across the region. We are going to talk about food security, the growing health and financial impacts of heat extremes, why poorer nations keep investing in coal and industries that kill their people, and Australia is firmly entering its hot season with record seasonal temperatures. We'll ponder if peace will happen in Ukraine after Russia wrote the plan (?), delve more into the big picture on AI, and of course, a show wouldn't be a show without discussing US political shenanigans. Whatever is happening in the world that matters, we'll be sure to cover it. Come and join us, so you can get caught up on the news that matters, this Friday 28th November 2025, 7am UK, 8am EU, 11am UAE, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 6pm AEST. Send us a textCassowaries stole the cheese and the show, but the real suspense came from a 37-degree towing day that finally put our LandCruiser 300 to the test. We headed to a tiny tropical gem—Ettie Bay—where rainforest brushes the sand, nippers train under the red and yellow, and a modest fish and chip shop serves Spanish mackerel good enough to plan lunch around. It's the kind of place that feels untouched: tight beachfront sites, a fenced playground in view of your awning, and day visitors swinging in hammocks between the palms. It's also the kind of place that demands respect—stinger nets, seasonal jellyfish, croc sightings, and cassowaries that will happily admire their reflection in your shiny 4WD.Between swims and sunset patrols, we built our favourite warm-weather ritual: Facos. Think soft tortillas, crisp salsa, pickled heat, and a burst of local mango folded around fresh crumbed Spanish Mackerel. Stocking up at a roadside stall outside Innisfail turned lunch into a celebration of pineapple-sweet air and sticky mango fingers. It's fast, fresh, kid-friendly, and exactly what beach camping calls for after a morning of sand and salt. Then we turned to the data everyone keeps asking for. After six months and nearly 20,000 kilometres towing a 3.6-tonne family bunk van, we share temps, gearing, and upgrades that matter. With Just Autos tuning onboard, a ScanGauge watching coolant and transmission temps (and a plan to add EGT), we saw 85–87°C on regular days, 92–94°C in the heat, and 102°C on steep climbs in a lower gear—no alarms, no fade, no drama. Seventh gear for a 1:1 ratio keeps the transmission happy; dropping gears on hills manages load and heat. We also cover weight balance, stability, and the importance of booking services ahead with trusted partners like Cutler Diesel Performance in Townsville. All of this ties back to a simple truth: choose curiosity over comfort. Wild places reward the prepared traveller, good food elevates simple nights, and real-world data beats internet hot takes every time. If you're weighing up the Geelong Caravan and Adventure Leisure Fest, we explain why a $15 ticket can be the most efficient way to compare rigs, tech, and trends in one hit.Love the show? The tech broligarchy is getting a lot of attention, as is AI and the potential of a massive bubble. Tech industry insiders are calling BS on the promises executives are saying AI will deliver, while the financial market responds to every word its leaders utter. So, what is it? Is the promise real? Is it a hype cycle on steroids? We are going to dig into this, with an industry veteran who has seen it ALL across a career spanning more than three decades. We'll also discuss job losses and where we went wrong with DEI, but also where we can get it right. It's a looking back AND looking forward discussion on an industry shaping our world today. Then it's onto the news, and boy, it's been a blow-your-hair-back kind of time, hasn't it? The important thing is to focus on what really matters in all the noise, and that's what we try to do on this show. We'll talk about Cop30 so far, as well as some recent climate and humanitarian reports, the global economy because the news cycle around this is bonkers too (luckily we have David and Richard to make sense of it), possible peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, MBS in Washington, the US's chaotic news cycle, and everything else that's going on that matters, as well as what doesn't matter, which is important too. We are thrilled to welcome Stanimira Koleva as our special guest this week. A seasoned C-level technology executive with more than three decades of leadership experience at companies including Microsoft, Cisco, HERE Technologies, Sage, and Citrix, her career has spanned the globe, from Bulgaria to Singapore, London to Dubai, and everything in between. Stanimira has built businesses and transformed organizations while developing deep cultural intelligence and understanding of global markets. Today, she channels this extensive experience through RASK Tech, providing interim leadership and strategic advisory services to organizations navigating critical transitions, while also pursuing her passion for building communities and sharing insights from her global investment and business experiences. We are all looking forward to hearing Stanimira's wisdom, so do join us, and get caught up on the news while you're at it, this Friday 21st November 2025, 7am UK, 8am EU, 11am UAE, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 6pm AEST. Send us a textA tropical creek you can actually drink from, a camp kitchen by the water, and paddocks lined with rambutan and mangosteen trees—Paradise Camps lived up to its name and then some. We set up under the palms, met the hosts who made it feel like home, and used this Hipcamp haven as a launchpad for Babinda's best: the legendary bakery, a small but rich community museum, and short drives to Josephine Falls and the dramatic, cautionary beauty of Babinda Boulders. No crocs in the creek, just cold, clear water that wakes you up and reminds you why Far North Queensland is a bucket-list region.Between swims and bakery runs, we opened a bigger conversation: should towing large caravans in Australia require a licence or endorsement? With more people on the road and heavier rigs than ever, the accident data is moving in the wrong direction. We break down the pros and cons—safety gains, clearer standards, insurer incentives versus added costs, complexity, and the risk of red tape. Our view leans toward education first: short, practical towing courses that demystify weights, turning geometry, braking distances, and tyre management. Know your GVM, GCM, and tow ball weight. Get weighed in combination. Slow down. These habits build confidence and save lives, whether you're cruising the Bruce Highway or easing down a slim cane-field road.We also talk family on the move. Jasper picked up the Barefoot Investor kids' book again and it clicked—goals, saving, and small business ideas to fund the bigger dreams we won't buy for him. Pair that with the daily lessons of full-time travel and you get a practical education that most classrooms never touch: money sense, planning, and reading the road for real. If you love the idea of a hipcamp that blends paradise with easy access to hikes, swims, and classic country-town eats, this one should top your list.If this story brightened your day or made you rethink how you tow, tap follow, share it with a mate, and leave a quick review. Your note helps other travellers find safer roads and better campsites across Australia.

Send us a textPlanning a Tropical North Queensland escape that actually delivers on wonder, value, and ease? We've mapped a five-stop itinerary that blends wild rainforest, oceanfront camping, family-friendly resort energy, and a bucket-list day on the Great Barrier Reef. From a humble farm stay near cane fields to a manicured palm-lined village with a world-class pier, we share what to book, what it costs, and how to make every hour count. We kick off at Newell Beach Farm Stay, a low-cost, pet friendly gem minutes from a classic palm-framed shoreline and an easy launch point for the Daintree. Think boardwalks, butterflies, cassowary sightings at a safe distance, and simple treats like Daintree Ice Cream. Then it's Ellis Beach, where you can camp on the sand and drive the spectacular Captain Cook Highway to Hook-A-Barra for accessible, catch-and-release barramundi thrills that work for newcomers and keen anglers alike. If “set and forget” is your style, Cairns Coconut brings resort-level fun to a caravan park: pools, splash zones, mini golf, movies, and more, with tour bookings at reception. For a quieter reset, Creek's Edge Park at Mossman offers minimal sites, a clear-swimming creek, friendly hosts, and a true jungle trek to a private waterfall that feels like a secret chapter in your travel story. We wrap at NRMA Palm Cove Holiday Park—big sites, a fresh resort pool, and that iconic foreshore—then head offshore with Reef Magic to Moore Reef. Expect five hours on the outer reef, semi-submersible views, guided snorkelling, all gear provided, and marine biologists who turn curiosity into new favourites. We've also included a practical RV summer checklist so your aircon, fridge ventilation, batteries, tyres, and spare keys are ready before peak holiday chaos. Fewer breakdowns mean more reef time, more rainforest hush, and more chances to watch the kids light up when the fish hits the line.Love the journey and want more like this? Follow the show, share it with a mate planning a Queensland road trip, and leave a quick review so others can find us. What's your must-do in Tropical North Queensland? We are in a time of great uncertainty. Multiple crises are getting our attention – from geopolitics to war to the climate emergency to mental health and more – so how do we develop the inner resilience to cope? How do we reinvent ourselves when the world around us feels so unstable? And what holds us back from speaking our truth authentically and powerfully? We are going to discuss this and a whole lot more, through the lens of a forthcoming book - The Red Silk Dress - with its central message of courage and adaptation.Of course, the news is never boring, and we expect to spend a significant chunk of time on the BBC crisis looking at it from every angle, the latest shenanigans in the US, updates from Cop30, as well as the extreme weather events around the world this week, which include a record-breaking cold snap in the US. We're seeing terrorism back on the streets in India and Pakistan, war and ecocide is starting to get the attention it deserves, and we'll cover whatever else happens between now and then.  We are absolutely delighted to welcome Natalie Turner as our special guest this week. Natalie is an international keynote speaker, innovation strategist, award-winning author, and inventor of The Six ‘I's® of Innovation - a purpose-centred framework used worldwide to help people and organisations build cultures of creativity and change. Her mission is to awaken human creativity and lead change that matters. Natalie is the author of Yes, You Can Innovate (Pearson) and the forthcoming novel The Red Silk Dress, a sensual, emotionally charged story of longing, courage, and transformation set between Cambodia, Malaysia, and Paris. Her recent TEDx Talk in Marvila, Lisbon, explores Purpose-Centred Innovation and what it means to stay human in an age of disruption and AI.We are all looking forward to listening to Natalie, so do join us, and get caught up on the news while you're at it, this Friday 14th November 2025, 7am UK, 8am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 6pm AEST. The Sh*t Show: beyond the gates, community engagement in education

Education is a force for good that lifts societies out of poverty, yet education systems are failing around the world, especially in wealthy, democratic countries. One area showing real impact - not just on students, but on the communities schools serve - is effective community engagement programs. These programs succeed not only because of what students are doing - charity, social justice, service, or community engagement - but when they inspire students to become lifelong champions of social justice and community engagement. What does a successful model look like? How does it work in action? What difference is it making? How could our global education system benefit from this approach? You'll learn this and a whole lot more. After that, it's time for the news, and there's a lot going on as usual. The US has seen a legitimate “Blue Wave” across the country which has created a media feeding frenzy, the same region in the Philippines devastated by an earthquake recently has now been flattened by Typhoon Kalmaegi, with a new Super Typhoon brewing behind it. Right now Vietnam is in the typhoon's path after it intensified again, and Thailand is expecting torrential rainfall over the weekend from the storm too. Beyond extreme weather events, we had a walk-out from Miss Universe over disrespectful comments, the saga of the British Royals continues, and we'll know by Friday if Elon Musk gets his $1 trillion pay package. There's a lot more going on, but that's a flavour from the week so far.    Our education champion is Heidi Oxley-Whitnell, who is all about enabling students - through experiential learning and community engagement - to make a difference. Heidi has been the CAS (creativity, activity, service) and Experiential Learning Coordinator at UWC Thailand for nearly 10 years and is a regular award winner for her work. Loved by students and the whole community in Phuket, Heidi is a passionate force for good in a world that needs such role models. Heidi is part of CASConnected, which aims to supports CAS coordinators globally through professional development and mentorship, helping educators design programmes that move beyond checklists to building authentic and sustainable relationships with their communities. We are all looking forward to speaking with Heidi, so do join us, and get caught up on the news while you're at it, this Friday 7th November 2025, 7am UK, 8am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 6pm AEST. The FitMIND FitBODY Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 29, 2025 126:17

Guest: Duc Do – AI expert, entrepreneur, author, and ultra-runner with a penchant for the “boring” and a training schedule that defies all conventional wisdom. Get Ready For: A wildly inspiring, deeply honest, and surprisingly hilarious conversation that proves there's no single “right” way to be a runner. Duc's story is a masterclass in resilience, creativity, and finding your own path. Why You'll Love This Episode: The Ultimate Underdog Story: Duc grew up in Vietnam and India, plagued by chronic illness from overuse of antibiotics. He was the kid who finished dead last in school runs, huffing and puffing while the girls passed him. Fast forward to today, and he's tackling 200-mile races like Delirious West. How? You'll have to listen! The “Cunning Plan” (a.k.a. The Anti-Training Plan): Forget 6am track sessions and weekly mileage logs. Duc's secret weapon? Running just once a week. That's right. He's a self-proclaimed “specialist at tapering” and has built an incredible ultra-running career on a single, long Sunday run. His philosophy: make it work for your crazy life, not the other way around. Embrace the Boring (Seriously): Duc didn't choose running because he loved it; he chose it because he feared and found it utterly boring. His logic? If something is that unappealing, it must be exactly what he needed to break his cycle of illness. Spoiler alert: it worked. Running as Radical Honesty & Meditation: For Duc, ultra-running isn't about medals or bragging rights. It's a “privileged playground” to practice mindfulness and be brutally honest with yourself. When you're 100 miles in, there's no facade left—just you, your breath, and your footsteps. He shares how this practice bleeds into everyday life. The Power of the DNF: In a world obsessed with finishing, Duc offers a refreshing perspective. He finds deep satisfaction in his Did Not Finishes (DNFs) because the races that cause them are often the most fascinating and transformative. It's not about the result; it's about the raw, unfiltered experience. Tips from the Maverick: For Motivation: Sign up for races! Duc calls them “valid excuses” to get out the door and commit. The financial investment and the start line are powerful motivators. For Mental Toughness: When your mind starts to wander (especially when you're tired or in pain), gently bring it back to the basics: your breath, your footsteps, or the simple rhythm of your movement. Counting or focusing on colours can help. For Race Strategy (His Way): Don't fight your need for sleep in ultras. Duc, a self-described “big sleeper,” prioritises 1.5-2 hour chunks of quality sleep over micro-naps during 200-milers. Find what works for your body. For Injury Prevention (Maybe): Being a slow runner might be his secret. Duc credits his lack of serious injuries to not pushing for speed, which puts less strain on the body. He's also transitioning more to trails for their softer impact and muscle variety. The Golden Rule: “There's a million ways [to run ultras], and there are a lot of ways that I have not even thought of just yet.” Your path is yours alone. Experiment and find what feels right. Duc's Next Big Adventures: He's eyeing the gruelling Volstead 500K in the US (because it sounds “boring as hell”) and is determined to conquer the Tour de Trails after two DNFs. His cunning plans for these are already in the works! Connect with Duc: Duc's  LinkTree (all his links) - https://linktr.ee/ducdo

You'll learn how schemas (like abandonment, emotional deprivation, defectiveness/shame, subjugation, approval-seeking and unrelenting standards) quietly shape attraction, tolerance, and your choices and what it looks like to shift from fear-driven decisions to wise, Healthy Adult decisions. What You'll LearnWhy “I want love” is not neediness and why there's no shame in wanting a partner, the goal is a good partner.5 fears that keep you stuck (and the schemas beneath them):“What if I can't change?” → defectiveness, hopelessness; how willingness and skills create traction.“What if I'm behind everyone else?” → inner critic, comparison traps; using the paradoxical theory of change (accept where you are to move forward).“I've tried before and it didn't work.” → learned helplessness; why the right framework goes deeper than tips.“Maybe I'm not meant to find love.” → self-fulfilling prophecy; moving from fate to agency and changing actions that drive outcomes.“There's no one for me / no one could love me as I am.” → defectiveness/shame; how this belief warps dating behaviour and tolerance for crumbs.Rewriting your Love Template: bringing unconscious maps into the light, strengthening your Healthy Adult, and re-parenting vulnerable parts so they're not making dating decisions.A hopeful reframe: your beliefs are learned, not destiny and learned beliefs can be unlearned.Key Ideas & TakeawaysLimiting beliefs are echoes of the past, not predictions of your future.Compare yourself only to your own trajectory, not to others. No relationship is a waste if you extract the learning.Real change is skills + practice: noticing triggers, choosing different responses, and getting out earlier when needed. You already have an innate wisdom, schema work helps you hear it again.Who This Episode Is ForWomen who want a healthy, emotionally available relationship and are ready to stop repeating patterns with unavailable or narcissistic partners.Resources & Next StepsJoin Love Wisely (12-week transformational group coaching) - doors close Wed 17 September (midnight AEST). Fantastic Four: First Steps Is this, the 4th attempt at bringing the Marvel Universe's "First Family" to the big screen actually as fantastic as it purports to be? Well, we have finally settled on a look and feel that best suits the classic super hero squad: and it's '60s Retro-futurism all the way for one and all!!! It's a whole new universe of Marvel stories starring Omni-daddy Pedro Pascal, serving C&%t Vanessa Kirby, Joseph "i'm on fire!" Quinn and Ebon Moss Bacharach (or baccarat as Quinny thinks he's called) as the truly Fantastic Four! In this film we kick of Marvel's Phase 6 and usher in a new style and direction of storytelling, but is it actually good?  Listen in and find out! These fantastic four reviewers are here for this one, so it's all hands on deck as we hit this faster than light! https://youtu.be/ZkJszcpuQwQ A huge shout-out to the fantastic flexible friends and their robot helpers who join in with our moderated live-chat during the Twitch stream, each Tuesday night at 7:30pm AEST. Are you embracing Ageing or pushing back against the inevitable? My guest today is Jane Duncan Rogers who feels that aging should be viewed in a ‘whacky' way and with positivity, gratitude and acceptance. Jane shares her thoughts on her Substack account which you can subscribe to below.Jane is warm and encouraging and I could have chatted to her for hours. I'm definitely having Jane back in future episodes. In this episode we discuss:* Jane's story, a widow at 54 which led to writing books and finding unexpected love again* Mindset is the key - The 4 pillars of ageing * End of life planning - an important task but which many of us put off because it is a confronting issueWatch the VideoMeet JaneJane Duncan Rogers, an award-winning author, coach, and thought leader, was trained personally by Louise L. Hay in 1990. Jane was the first to bring Louise's transformative work to the UK and Europe, and wrote her first book in 1997. From running 6 small businesses in the wellbeing field since 1992, she is now a champion for conscious ageing. Through writing Embracing Ageing on Substack, she encourages everyone to welcome the last third of their lives wackily and well. She sees ageing not as a decline, but as a time for deeper wisdom, intentional living and a dollop of quirkiness, and she supports others to do the same. Jane says: “The journey of ageing well is much richer when it is walked alongside joy, juiciness and gratitude for simply being alive, no matter what”.Jane's books: https://www.janeduncanrogers.com/booksFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/jane.duncanrogers/Would you like to try something new?
