Vegan Cheesecake is all about great vegan food and The Golden Girls. Join David Huffman of Bitchy Vegan Homo and Vegan Vicki of Urban Sweetness as they talk about the food and TV show they love.
This is the moment Vicki has been waiting for. This week we discuss her favorite episode of The Golden Girls of all time, "The Actor" (ep. 14, s. 2), in which Blanche, Dorothy and Rose all fall for the star of their local theatre's latest production. He's the kind of man who really melts Rose's Häagen-Dazs, makes Dorothy giddy as a school girl and makes Blanch stuff her bra. Dave and Vicki also talk about vegan ice cream, a mutual love of caramel and some vegan seafood items.
Dorothy's ex-husband, deadbeat Stan, is back and wearing out his welcome in "The Stan Who Came To Dinner" (ep. 13, s. 2) on this week's episode of The Golden Girls. Dave and Vicki go in to everything from people moaning in recovery to Rihanna songs along the way as well as vegan ribs and cookies.
The legendary Nancy Walker stars as Sophia's surprise birthday present in "Sisters" (e. 12, s. 2) of The Golden Girls. Dave has a lot to say about Walker and Vicki tries not to say too much about her cousins who have "donkey butts." Dave also goes into why he thinks his alter ego name is more than fitting and defends his "bitchy" moniker and Vicki is somehow doing her hair the entire time during the recording. She's got talent!
Dave and Vicki don't have much Christmas spirit for this episode of The Golden Girls but duty calls and they will take it on anyway. In "'Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas" (e. 12, s. 2), the Girls are trying to make their way to their respective homes for the holiday but are foiled at every turn. Somehow Dave and Vicki end up discussing bad movies, the cost of VCR's in the 1980's and whether or not it's a good idea to give money to someone that isn't playing an accordion.
Dave and Vicki are back together recording at a safe social distance as they discuss "Love, Rose" (e. 10, s. 2) of The Golden Girls. Before they get to talking about Rose's fictional, romantic pen pal, Isaac Newton, they have other important topics to tackle. Such as... Dave's public meltdown. Vicki's surprising love of not very PC classic films and her new obsession with Be Leaf vegan shrimp.
Blanche is quickly jealous of Dorothy when she starts to work at the museum in "Joust Between Friends" (e. 9, s. 2) of The Golden Girls. Dave and Vicki ponder important issues brought up in the episode such as proper care of underwear and the joys of pet ownership. They also chat about vegan cheesy goodness and other culinary triumphs of late like deep fried Oreos.
Dorothy, Blanche and Rose find out that the hotel they's booked for their Caribbean getaway is a dumped in this week's episode "Vacation" (e. 8, s. 2). Dave and Vicki recall their own worst hotel experiences as well as discuss vegan sushi and the fine line between underwear being sexy and ridiculous.
The Golden Girls have more family visiting to drive the plot on this week's episode, "A Family Affair." Dorothy's son and Rose's daughter wind up in bed together while Blanche recovers from a bad back. Dave and Vicki discuss their love of the word floozy and favorite vegan breakfasts and other things they've been cooking on lockdown. (note: please forgive the lesser quality audio as quarantine has disrupted our recording schedule)
Big Daddy is back and he's got a much younger fiancé with him in this week's episode, "Big Daddy's Little Lady" (s 2, e 6), of The Golden Girls. Dave and Vicki discuss what they've been eating while sheltering in place. For Dave, that included almost an entire cake while Vicki's been practicing making tortillas.
Dorothy's lesbian friend, Jean, from college comes to visit in "Isn't it Romantic" (ep. 5, s. 2) of The Golden Girls and it's one of Dave and Vicki's favorite episodes! We also cover important issues like vegan ice cream sundaes, shoulder pads, lame April Fool's Day jokes and private photos not always being so private...
"It's a Miserable Life" is not only the way many of us are feeling now but it's also the name of The Golden Girls episode Dave and Vicki discuss on this week's Vegan Cheesecake. Rose tells their mean neighbor Frieda Claxton to drop dead and she takes it literally leaving the girls to take care of her funeral. Mean neighbors, nice lesbians, Menudo, vegan food and the importance of having bail money are just a few topics that get addressed along the way.
Known deadbeat, Stan, is back and expects his ex-wife Dorothy to console him when he loses his business in this week's episode "Take Him He's Mine" (ep. 3, s. 2) of The Golden Girls. Dave also admits that he's the type of person who isn't above ruining some kid's lemonade stand.

We are onto season 2 of The Golden Girls as we discuss "The End of the Curse" and Dave spends more time discussing periods than most men ever do. Vicki and Dave also come dangerously close to discussing serious issues in clear violation of this silly podcast's mission statement.
Poor Rose. Dave and Vicki aren't here to slut-shame Lucy though, mainly because they are too busy talking about cruelty-free mouse catching, check-out line weirdos and Dave's vegan pancake obsession.
