#84 3D-Printed Meat & Lab-Grown Flesh: The Future of Food or Ultra-Processed Nightmare?

The Keto Vegan

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 4, 2025 15:08

Welcome back to The Keto Vegan Podcast! In this episode, we're diving into the sci-fi world of 3D-printed plant-based meat and lab-grown meat. Is this the future of sustainable food, or are we just creating ultra-processed Frankenfoods? In This Episode, You'll Discover: What 3D-printed food actually is (spoiler: it's not made with a regular inkjet printer, but that would be hilarious). The companies already selling 3D-printed vegan meats—yes, you can eat 3D-printed salmon! How lab-grown meat is made (hint: no animals are slaughtered, but animal cells are involved). The ethical debate—should vegans eat lab-grown meat? Why customisable macros in printed food could be a keto dream. The potential downsides—hello, ultra-processed food concerns! Best Moments "These food printers are becoming more readily available, and lots of restaurants are using them for their menus." "This is the amazing thing about 3D-printed food. You can add the nutrients that you want to make them more nutrient-dense." "Lab-grown meat is not publicly available yet, but they reckon in two years' time, we will be able to purchase it as they develop the methods." "Would you eat 3D-printed plant meats? And would you eat, when it's available, lab-grown meat?" #3DPrintedMeat #LabGrownMeat #KetoVegan #SustainableFood #PlantBasedMeat #VeganKeto #FutureOfFood #MeatAlternatives #EthicalEating #UltraProcessedFood Resources & Links: Read the original article: Vegan Food & Living: 3D-Printed Meat - Frankenfood or the Future? https://www.veganfoodandliving.com/features/3d-printed-plant-based-meats-frankenfoods-or-answer-to-ending-animal-suffering/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwY2xjawJOjy1leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHRFnhpzhZLB-Q1OmN63jZKLewBCg-XpjOmAFsl07KTQ-1eHm6S7_Qpkrzg_aem_OstLL6SAb7yayJRI0eKeqg#Echobox=1742471085 https://youtu.be/fQuooLTU2qs https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/articles/3d_printed_food https://vegfaqs.com/lab-grown-meat-companies/ 3D Printed Plant Meats: https://altfarm.co/ https://www.steakholderfoods.com/ https://www.novameat.com/products   Final Thought: Would you eat 3D-printed plant-based meat? Fast forward to today and she is now Alyssa Wilen, a mother, happily married to her husband Andrew, and for a number of years they have been operating a cooking school here in Charlotte (where we all live) called Alyssa's Kitchen. Along the way I found out that Alyssa was not a vegetarian when she was the chef at Fern, but adapted her skills to that cuisine because, well, she could. It's that kind of artisanal spirit that propelled her and Andrew to tackle the daunting task of opening a cooking school for home cooks, then navigating through the pandemic to survive, and ultimately growing an important and beloved local business. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: 5:05pm- During a Wednesday press conference, Mayor Eric Adams announced that the New York Police Department (NYPD) arrested an estimated 300 protesters at Columbia University's campus on Tuesday night. While speaking with Sean Hannity on Fox News, former President Donald Trump called on the Biden Administration to vocally condemn the anti-Israel protests taking place. 5:20pm- Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a campaign rally from Waukesha, Wisconsin. While speaking he proclaimed, “Joe Biden's economic plan is to make China rich and America poor. My economic plan is to make America richer than ever before!” A clip from the rally went viral on social media after Trump hilariously discussed vegan food. 5:25pm- Luke Rosiak of The Daily Wire writes: “In the court proceedings involving whether Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis hired her boyfriend to try the president of the United States for a crime—and lied about it—one piece of sworn testimony was particularly dramatic. Her father, John Floyd III, testified to the court in February that his daughter was ‘forced' to move after she was first elected. ‘After she was sworn in on January 1, 2021, on or about the third of February at probably 5, 5:30 a.m. in the morning,' Floyd explained, ‘there were people outside her house cursing and yelling...Fortunately, the neighbors called the police and disbanded the group.' But in response to a public records request by The Daily Wire, the City of South Fulton Police Department said it had no record of any of those incidents.” You can read the full story here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/police-say-they-have-no-records-to-support-claim-that-mob-of-racist-whites-surrounded-fani-willis-home 5:45pm- A social media vampire (what?) has gone viral for calling President Joe Biden “un-American” after he signed legislation that could ultimately ban TikTok.

What comes to mind when you hear the words “vegan food.” For many of us, it's burlap clothing and plates made of cardboard, but Steven Salm is out to change that. Steven founded Planta, a vegan restaurant that transcends every boundary placed on that genre of food. The branding, the buildout, and the culinary program all speak to what it is: one of the most compelling restaurant concepts in the last 20 years–even for carnivores. In our conversation today, we unpack the strategy he developed and executed to bring veganism into the mainstream on a national level.
