In this episode of Six Weeks to Fitness, I am joined by Antoine Bhutan, out of Atlanta, Georgia.  Antoine is the creator of Veganbando, “a source of inspiration for better lifestyle choices.” Veganbando was created in 2017, to document Antoine's plant-based journey. Antoine had been advised to eliminate dairy from his diet to help alleviate his severe seasonal allergy symptoms and this recommendation proved very effective. After witnessing the power of holistic healing, the quest for a healthier, more-proactive lifestyle began. Over the years, Veganbando has grown into a unique space where health-conscious, high-vibrational individuals celebrate good vibes and spiritual abundance to the sounds of high-vibrational music of the diaspora. Antoine grew up in New York City but would spend most of his summers either in Trinidad or Barbados, but it was in Trinidad where most of his family would grow their own vegetables and that is where he picked up most of his healthy lifestyle habits. During the interview, Antoine will share his story on the positive impact the vegan lifestyle has had on his life.  The vegan meals displayed on Antoine's @veganbando Instagram page are meals of his own creation and most impressive. If you ever thought about trying the vegan lifestyle, just visit Antoine's Instagram page, listen to this interview, and you will be hooked.

Ph.D., professor, vegan, wife, dog mama, animal advocate and punk rocker only begins to describe Lisa Barca. As the lead singer of Scarlet Rescue, an all-vegan punk rock band, Lisa can be found raising awareness about the vegan philosophy whether at the front of a room full of college students, caring for rescued pigs at a sanctuary or on the stage at a punk rock concert. Lisa's passion for writing songs and singing has spanned decades. She played in bands in Boston and New Haven on the East Coast. But her music was put on the back shelf when she attended graduate school and entered a career of academia. Currently, Lisa is a professor at Arizona State University, in the Honors College. Her passion for music was reignited in 2017 after watching a documentary about animal agriculture specific to calves being stripped away from their mothers shortly after being born. Turning Point Even though she had been vegetarian for years, the film woke Lisa up to the incredible exploitation of the female reproductive system, the separation of families and depraved violence within the dairy and egg industries. “I went vegan on the spot, and never looked back. That's when I started playing music again in earnest and started writing songs about becoming vegan,” Lisa reflected. Soon after, Scarlet Rescue released their album Animals and Other People. Songs include their most popular song, Barbecue Protest which tells the story of how may feel when invited to gatherings where others minimize the fact they are vegan. A unique aspect of the band is all members are vegan. http://www.scarletrescue.com

Ahead of COP26, the most important climate conference of our times, I called out to listeners to ask me whatever is on their mind, or in the hearts, about the climate crisis we are living through. My new producer Cassie (lives in Melbourne, interests include rock trivia, the beach and tea) chose some of your questions and played them to me cold. Me (interests include climate trivia!), well, I did my best to answer them based on my slightly obsessed layperson's knowledge and opinions. What is COP? What can I do to make a difference? How do I vote climate? It was pretty rapid-fire, but I promised to include back-up links and references here in the show notes. There are a few…knock yourselves out! Austin K. Sanderson moved to NYC in 1998 to attend New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Design and Production Department. After graduating with his Masters degree in set and costume design, he spent the next twenty-two years working as a designer in the American theater. In 2008 he was introduced to Jivamukti Yoga in a yoga class at a local neighborhood gym in Jersey City New Jersey. As he continued to take Jivamukti classes both locally and at the Jivamukti Yoga School NYC. Austin wanted to learn more about yoga and share with others his life changing experience brought about while practicing the Jivamukti Yoga Method. In 2011, Austin attended the Jivamukti 300+ hour teacher training program at the Omega Institute. In 2012, he continued his studies and completed his 800-hour Jivamukti Teacher Certification at The Jivamukti Yoga School NYC. In 2013, Austin and his partner Bob opened a 3000 square foot Jivamukti Yoga Center in downtown Jersey City, two blocks away from where he took his first Jivamukti yoga class. Austin is extremely grateful to his teachers, Sharon Gannon and David Life. Austin views Gannon and Life as his upa-guru, a teacher who points you in the right direction. Without them Austin would have never had a full understanding of why veganism is so crucial to a yoga practice. While Austin ran the Jivamukti Center in Jersey City he continued to seek deeper teachings outside the Jivamukti method, ones that would offer a deeper understanding of the ancient teaching of yoga from its roots. It was at this point that Shri Yogishri Sudarshan Kannan came into Austin's life as a teacher and Sat-Guru. In 2020, Austin founded the Urban Sadhu Yoga Method, “a method of applying ancient yogic wisdom in a contemporary context.” He and his partner Bob are the co-owners of Urban Sadhu Yoga Shala, formally Jivamukti Yoga Center Jersey City. Austin is also if the co-founder and co-producer of Yoga Fest Jersey City, a free public yoga, music and vegan food festival held in the heart of downtown Jersey City NJ during the summer equinox.
