Matthew (he/him) and Jo (she/they) head to the “Homefront” and find “Paradise Lost”. We embrace the introduction of Joseph Sisko, we question Admiral Leyton's plan to take over Earth and we get back into our “critiquing the Federation/Starfleet as settler colonialists” bag as we analyze what this episode is saying about land, who claims it and how it is “protected.” Also we talk about 9/11 a surprising amount. Matthew asks if you can catch an STD in a holoprogram and Jo rants about exploding consoles on starships. As always, be prepared that spoilers may be lurking around every corner just like Garak on Empok Nor.Subscribe for weekly recaps of Star Trek Deep Space Nine, follow us online at @TerokNoir on Twitter for silly memes and polls and contact us by e-mail at teroknoirpod@gmail.com

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Homefront Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 10: Homefront Part 1. We head to earth where we find some growing paranoia over the changelings. We meet Admiral Leyton (also known as Admiral Falcon Crest) played by Robert Foxworth from Sisko's past. Will this admiral be another disappointment to the rank? Count on it! We also finally meet Grandpa Joe in person, played by the familiar face of Brock Peters. San Diego artist and big DS9 fan Attiba Royster joins us for this two-parter. Check out Attiba's artwork here and listen to his pop culture podcast Teebs and Kid Phoenix Vs. Homefront In this episode, the crew heads back to earth to help Starfleet understand the Dominion threat. Odo comes along to provide some expert advice and Jake comes along to hang out with Grandpa Joe and Nog! Sisko ends up with the crappy job of shoring up security at Starfleet while everyone freaks out about the changelings. Meanwhile, Grandpa Joe is hiding some health issues and complaining about his rights. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Please listen to some of our favorite episodes like Duet, The Visitor or Heart of Stone and check out the previous episode, Our Man Bashir. Next time... Besides wondering whether he could man his ship in time to return to sea Hornblower had other worries because his wife Maria was with him in his lodgings. She was tearful and told him that he might become a parent again. He felt guilty as he was just getting over the shock of the news that Lady Barbara Wellsley over whom he had nearly made a fool of himself aboard the Lydia, had just married Admiral Leyton a man under whom Hornblower was now serving. When what Captain Sisko thought was a changeling takeover turns out to be a Federation power grab, it's somehow even more difficult than before to know who his friends are. But when Admiral Leyton's coup d'état breaks down like a Coupe DeVille, his plans to pave over paradise are jeopardized for good. Can you wear a com badge to the brig? Are guile and paradise mutually exclusive? What is “The Greatest Gen Promise”? It's the episode that reaches through the brood!

The Pensky Podcast: Star Trek: Deep Space 9

Admiral Leyton reveals his true intentions and Sisko is revealed to be a Changeling... maybe? "Paradise Lost" is the conclusion of the story that started in "Homefront" and it has a lot of the usual second-hour issues in Star Trek episodes. While Homefront had a lot of thematic weight to the narrative, Paradise Lost is in the unfortunate position of trying to wrap everything up with a neat bow. Clay joins me to discuss the generic bad guy, cramming everyone onto the Defiant, and how good ideas can save bad episodes! Are you looking for older episodes? Red Squad. Cadet Training Squadron 47, as it is formally known, is an elite group at Starfleet Academy that receives special treatment, and thus is the object of desire for many Cadets. They played a pivotal role in Admiral Leyton's attempted coup on Earth in "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost," and they operated a Defiant-class starship behind enemy lines in "Valiant." Along the way they raised a number of questions about the wisdom of Starfleet Academy establishing and nurturing a group that saw itself as above the rules. In this episode of The Orb, hosts Christopher Jones and Matthew Rushing discuss Red Squad, its role in education at the Academy, its seductive nature, the dangers it could pose to the stability of Starfleet, and how it was used in storytelling.   Send us your feedback! Literary Treks: A Star Trek Books and Comics Podcast

Slings and Arrows: The Oppressor’s Wrong. In 2007 Pocket Books decided to honor the 20th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation with a six-part eBook series that bridged the gap between the destruction of the Enterprise-D in Generations and the next time we saw the crew on the big screen in First Contact. Penned by J. Steven York, Christina F. York, Phaedra M. Weldon, William Leisner, Terri Osborne, Robert Greenberger, and Keith R.A. DeCandido, these novellas tell the story of the Enterprise-E’s shakedown cruise. In this episode of Literary Treks hosts Matthew Rushing and Christopher Jones discuss the second book in the Slings and Arrows series, The Oppressor’s Wrong, which adds to the DS9 episodes “Homefront” and “Paradise Lost” by shedding light on what was happening aboard the Enterprise-E during those events. As it turns out, Admiral Leyton’s plans for a coup d’état extended far beyond Earth and involved treachery worthy of a four-star badmiral. In our news segment we learn that IDW does indeed plan to make John Byrne’s photo comic an ongoing series, and we review the fourth issue of the Khan comic series that fills in the back story from Into Darkness.
