In this must-hear episode, we break down what biblical repentance really is, what it's not, and why asking for forgiveness is worthless if your life doesn't change. Welcome back to The Women in the Arena Podcast! Today's episode is special for so many reasons — it marks our very first book club edition, featuring a conversation with Lena Andrews, author of Valiant Women. In this powerful book, Lena brings to life the incredible and often overlooked stories of American women who served during World War II, highlighting their courage, resilience, and critical roles in the war effort.Over the past month, a group of our listeners read along, and thanks to Lena's generosity, many of you received donated copies of Valiant Women and submitted thoughtful questions that helped shape today's conversation.Lena came to our community through a former guest — a perfect example of the authentic connections being built here at Iron Butterfly Media. With her background as an intelligence analyst, paired with her research and storytelling of women veterans, Lena's work reflects everything we stand for. She's a passionate writer doing the essential work of preserving these stories — work that feels more important now than ever.A huge thank you to everyone who followed along as this episode came together. I had so much fun collaborating with Lena — I could have easily spent hours more talking with her about her research process and the inspiration behind this book. She is truly a remarkable woman. We hope this is just the first of many book club episodes, creating even more ways to connect, engage, and grow this incredible community. As always, be sure to like, follow, and subscribe on your favorite podcast platforms and social media so you don't miss what's coming next!
Welcome back to the program. Let's go to the WRD talk line. We talked to James in Greenville. James, welcome, my friend. How are you? Hey, Jay. Hey, Charlie. Hey, bud. First time caller, man. First time caller, you get the bell. Alright. What's up? Hey, man. I got some gout information for you. Okay. Hi, man. You wanna stay on some allopurinol from your doctor, and you wanna drink plenty of water. Yeah. If you'd look at uric acid, you'd be good. I had to give it shrimp for a while. I got all that. I can eat shrimp again. I oh, I sat down and I ate a pound of shrimp. You gotta drink plenty of water. Oh my gosh. Water. Water. Water. I appreciate it, man. Thank you, James. It was excruciating. I looked it up. I said it was only 450 calories. I said that's got to be PhD approved. That's got to be 450 calories for a pound of shrimp. Sat down, ate it all by myself. Ankle just just crunched. It just went and I was like, oh, no. What have I done? So but thank you for the, for the advice. I appreciate it. I so president Trump goes over there, bombs Iran, and I all these people losing their minds. I had do you really want me to, JJ? Do you really want me to? I I I don't know about that. I don't know. Should I play it? I don't know. Let me think. Let me think. I don't know. Should I play it? Let me just weigh this for just a second. I don't know. Okay. Here we go. Hi. There you go. Vince Vance and the Valiant's, which, by the way, if you've never heard Vince Vance and the Valiant's Christmas album, that's really great. It really is good. Interesting story about Vince Vance. Go look that up. He had he was in a custody battle with his ex wife, and it was, it was fascinating to watch. Anyway, there you go. There's Vince Vance and the Valiant bomb around. So every I had a caller had a caller that said, here's what we should do, and I think that might be right. What president Trump should have come out and done was he should have said, ladies and gentlemen, we're sick and tired of the Ayatollah's treatment of the LGBTQ community. So we're gonna bomb Iran starting tomorrow, and everybody would've been, oh, I love this man. He is standing up for the LGBTQ community. We love him. He's so wonderful, and everybody would have been on his side. Everybody would have done it. Oh, he's so he's pro LGBTQ. There you go. But now we got even people like Marjorie Taylor Greene, you know, losing her mind over this thing. And I'm kinda wondering about the future of MAGA. I really am. If these people are so willing to turn their backs on Donald Trump so quickly And not only that, some of this blatant antisemitism that's going on with a lot of these folks is pretty concerning as well. So president Trump goes over there, and he bombs Iran. He wasn't the first person to say something about Iran's nuclear program. He wasn't the first. Many have said it. Wanna hear? Here we go. The United States is clear. We will not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon. If I'm the president, we will attack Iran. Whatever stage of development they might be in their nuclear weapons program in the next ten years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them. That's a terrible thing to say, but those people who run Iran need to understand that. Make no mistake. A nuclear armed Iran is not a challenge that can be contained. It would threaten the elimination of Israel, the security of Gulf nations, and the stability of the global economy. It risks triggering a nuclear arms race in the region and the unraveling of the Non Proliferation Treaty. That's why a coalition of countries is holding the Iranian government accountable. And that's why The United States will do what we must to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. As long as I'm president of The United States, Iran will not get a nuclear weapon. I've made that clear when I came into office. And look, I mean, Iran has American bl ...

In today’s Perspectives Pastors Podcast, Rev. Trudy and Rev. Brittany kick off a new multi-episode discussion that looks closely at our faith, asking “what good is it?” – connecting truths and experiences from Biblical times to the high running emotions, anxiety, and suspicion that many are feeling today. Up first, the female pastors look at faith through the lens of fear by turning to Matthew 10:23-27, a passage where Jesus sends off his disciples to spread his teachings, warning them that they will be met with hostility and resistance but all they need to take with them is their faith in God. It’s a bold call that is hard for us to embrace and understand. But, as the reverends discuss, it’s necessary today if we are going to live out God’s command to carry out justice. Through their Bible study and discussion, they debate whether the disciples were more courageous than we are today, explain the concept of holy courage, address the fears that we face today, and ultimately ask: How do we act when life gets tough? You can keep the conversation going by joining our weekly in-person Convergence discussion group or heading over to our Patreon channel to discuss the following questions with others: Does fear motivate you to retreat or to take action? Does faith motivate you to overcome your fear? How and Why? Has following Jesus caused a sword to sever some relationships? What emotion is evoked when you hear “take up the cross”? Our Patreon community is open to all – no matter where you align in your spiritual beliefs. It’s free to join and connect over the weekly episode questions. There are also two additional membership levels that allow you to unlock additional content. Check it out at https://www.patreon.com/fumcsd!

This one's a conversation with Runeslinger, aka Anthony from the Casting Shadows blog, podcast, and Youtube channel. He hails from South Korea and, having just enjoyed a week off work, I was able to cue up some chats with him. This conversation continues from Episode 6, The Story Divide, and delves deeper into the history of the emergence of a perception that roleplaying games are about storytelling as opposed to being about, well, something else. The approach was to dig out several texts - both in book form off our shelves and PDF format digitally - and examine those oft overlooked sections entitled something like, “What are roleplaying games?”Texts referenced include: Original Dungeons & Dragons (1974), Basic Role-Playing (1980), RuneQuest (1978), Stormbringer (1985 et al), Traveller (1977 & 1981), AD&D 1e Player's Handbook (1978), Cypher System Rulebook (2019), Your Best Game Ever (2019), Tales of the Valiant (2024), D&D 3rd Edition (2000), Vampire: The Masquerade (1991 et al), Apocalypse World (2010)... and a few others too.Big thanks again to Anthony, aka Runeslinger, for sharing this conversation. It's posted by us both in hope and with fear... the hope being that the community will find it useful.Game on!Casting Shadows: castingshadowsblog.com/New blog --> The Accidental "Lie" in RPGs:https://castingshadowsblog.com/?p=13470Roleplay Rescue Details:Voice Message:speakpipe.com/roleplayrescuePatreon:patreon.com/rpgrescue Email:roleplayrescue@pm.meBlogroleplayrescue.com Bluesky Social:https://bsky.app/profile/ubiquitousrat.bsky.socialMeWe:https://mewe.com/p/roleplayrescueLogo and artwork by MJ Hiblen:https://www.patreon.com/MJHiblenART/ Hosted on Acast. Today's conversation with Turing Award-winning computer scientist LESLIE VALIANT explores a question I find myself returning to over and over again – What makes us human? What unique abilities have allowed homo sapiens to succeed, flourish, and dominate – knowing it's not our size, strength, or speed. His new book, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EDUCABLE: A NEW THEORY ON HUMAN UNIQUENESS, has added timeliness, as we confront a crisis of social mistrust as well as the threats and promise of AI.Valiant-03-31-2025 Transcript
