Wiz RECOMMENDS Star Trek Beyond Whereas the 2009 Reboot and Star Trek Into Darkness made characters one of it's key focuses, Star Trek Beyond decides on a more comfortable, if not safe, route in storytelling. Star Trek Beyond feels much more like a popcorn action flick where the characters and their developments are simple and thin. They basically feel more like The Next Generation movies: the depth was in previous stories, this is just them on a new adventure. Now, in this instance I was already familiar with the characters, so enjoying these characters wasn't anywhere near as hard. But it feels like a huge step back when you get to know characters like Kirk and Spock in this iteration. But since this is a popcorn movie, that means no other characters get added depth to make them feel more fleshed out. They are as they were in the previous two films. This also is doubly true with the companion Jaylah, played by Sofia Boutella and the villain Krall, played in heavy makeup by Idris Elba. Neither character is interesting in anyway, but they also don't exactly hurt the film...they are just there to move the plot along. But as a popcorn movie, Star Trek Beyond is solid. Action sequences are fun with some good visuals. Set pieces are well done enough to keep the viewer entertained. But the planet the film is based on (a planet I can't even bother to remember the name of) is also not that interesting and just feels like a slab of rocks and non-descript mountains. Finally, the film goes on a little too long for its own good. At about two hours, you'd think that it's the right amount of time for a Star Trek film since many of them hit that mark or even higher. But the lack of character development and growth just means it meanders into more exposition to get into action sequences. If I'm being honest, Star Trek Beyond is a fine enough time to kill two hours. But compared to the reboot and Into Darkness, it's a marked step down when it comes to characters and story.

Dave Fielding's gritty, no-holds-barred memoir is not just a tale of covert operations and daring takedowns of the planet's most notorious terrorists in the hostile terrains of Iraq and Syria. It's a raw, unflinching look at the man behind the mission—whose personal life crumbed even as he fought against the darkness both without and within. Fielding's story is a harrowing journey through the underbelly of mental anguish, where the specter of suicide loomed large, and the battle was not just in surviving the external threats but confronting the demons that whispered from the shadows of his mind.  Find out more at https://still-toking-with.pinecast.co Send us your feedback online: https://pinecast.com/feedback/still-toking-with/f02829d3-4a96-48eb-bd79-b49d116866ee

Paramount+ va faire le bonheur des Trekkies avec l'intégrale des films Star Trek et des séries exclusives à la plateforme. S'intéresser à Star Trek, c'est avant tout revenir dans les années 60, bien avant Star Wars. Star Trek: The Original Series débarque en 1966 !

J.J. Abrams' successful yet like-it-or-hate-it plotting is on display in the flashy yet cliche take on the original Star Trek formula. What should truly happen in the upcoming fourth film? Why is the 2009 film rather funny yet empty on interesting antagonists? Why does Into Darkness bring on the brutal action and gritty character add-ons yet feels like it must go back to familiar mirror universe tactics? Why is Beyond just a soul-sucking car commercial with an annoying runtime and nothing memorable whatsoever? All that and how without these non-philosophical films, we'd be without any NEW Star Trek content!     MAIN LINKS: LinkTree: https://linktr.ee/JURSPodcast Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/JackedUpReviewShow/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/JackedUpReview Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jacked_up_podcast/ SHOW LINKS: YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCIyMawFPgvOpOUhKcQo4eQQ iHeartRadio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/269-the-jacked-up-review-show-59422651/ Podbean: https://jackedupreviewshow.podbean.com Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7Eg8w0DNympD6SQXSj1X3M Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-jacked-up-review-show-podcast/id1494236218 RadioPublic: https://radiopublic.com/the-jacked-up-review-show-We4VjE Overcast: https://overcast.fm/itunes1494236218/the-jacked-up-review-show-podcast Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/?feed=aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy9hNDYyOTdjL3BvZGNhc3QvcnNz Anchor: https://anchor.fm/s/a46297c/podcast/rss PocketCasts: https://pca.st/0ncd5qp4 CastBox: https://castbox.fm/channel/The-Jacked-Up-Review-Show-Podcast-id2591222

And we're back! The DISCOVERY hiatus continues, as does our series of watchalongs. We continue with the 2013 follow-up to Star Trek entitled Star Trek: Into Darkness. Kirk et al are hoping to start their five-year mission when, because of his flaunting of the rules, Kirk's command of the Enterprise is revoked and Spock (who dropped dime on him) is transferred to another ship. How will Kirk become the captain we know he can be? How can he and Spock have the friendship we know they must have? And what part does Admiral Pike play in all of it? [Spoiler Alert: he dies.]   Is this a strange, kelvin-timeline rehashing of Wrath of Khan? yes. Is it slightly disorganized and a little too long? yes and yes. but does Akie still get misty eyed when Kirk is dying and Spock is talking to him through the glass?! yes, yes, a thousand times yes!    that and other affirmations await you, dear listeners, as we watch and comment upon all things Into Darkness-esque. Klingons and hovercraft fights and, rarest of all, Spock-tears! All that and, also, Akie's heavy breathing when he gets too involved in the movie.

Join Becca, Dave, Chris and guest Charlie as look this instalment and wonder if Into Darkness is now written out of existence, do we need to see the Enterprise get destroyed again, is it still cool to like The Beasty Boys and what is Simon Pegg's obsession with the word “lassy”? What exactly transpired still isn't known. (How Dachau Concentration Camp Guards Got Their Comeuppance) *** When someone in her town was ill, Bertha was to first to pick up her medical bag and rush to the scene to try and help the sickly individual. It never failed though – shortly after her visit, Bertha's patients would pass away. (The Horrible Bertha Gifford) *** The Chicago Water Tower is one of the oldest buildings in the Windy City. Is it also one of the most haunted? (Chicago's Haunted Water Tower) *** A bell ringing team in England is plagued by phantom footsteps. (The Phantom Footsteps That Haunt Our Church) *** The crate was picked up and delivered to the docks. It was scheduled to leave for New Orleans that afternoon, but inclement weather kept the boat and crew in port for a week. That's when sailors began complaining of a foul odor coming from the hold. (The Corpse In The Shipping Crate) *** In the already exceedingly odd history of mysterious encounters with unexplained entities, there are sometimes some that stand out as particularly bizarre, to the point of being almost ludicrous. And I'll share a few. (Absurd Entities) *** Just because you're working in a busy office in the middle of the day doesn't mean you can't be disturbed by the paranormal. (The Haunted Office) A restaurant owner sees a man standing outside in the rain – but none of his employees can see the man. (No Entry!) *** Surrounded by sunny beaches, lush palm trees, and warm sand… and still one man is terrorized by an entity. (I Think My Hotel Room is Haunted) *** If you plan on staying at a strange hotel, be sure it wasn't built on a sacred burial ground. (The Ancients Walk at Night) *** Just because your family doesn't know of a death taking place in your house in the past, doesn't mean there wasn't one. (A Visitation From The Great Beyond) *** A girl babysits a group of children, but feels she's not the only one awake in the house. (The Other Babysitters) *** A man is pelted with candy by an unseen entity. (The Poltergeist Who Won't Leave Us… Ever) *** Can a house be haunted by… a smell? (A Ghostly Smell) *** A man checks in to a hotel he had no idea was haunted – yet the hotel staff knew. (The Crying Ghost of Galveston) *** A girl's dorm room becomes haunted on her last day at school… but upon arriving home, she discovers the phantom has followed her. Tonight, we continue our examination of mainstream media's misleading coverage of the Syrian War on its 10th anniversary, as it continues to rage on. We feature the words of former VA State Senator Richard Black, a retired Colonel who served in uniform for 32 years who flew 269 combat missions in Viet Nam as a Marine helicopter pilot. Black shares in a 6/21/2021 speech at the Schiller Institute, concerns of US foreign policy, detailing why he is "appalled at the indecency of US aggression towards Syria" and stressed that the US is implicated in helping and empowering terrorist organization in Syria. The Republican former lawmaker is a legal expert and twice visited Syria and Assad in April 2016 and Sept of 2018, making him one of the most credible voices of the counter dominant narrative that former Secretary of State John Kerry promoted in his half dozen or so major misrepresentations he defiantly argued and defended during his 9/3/13 congressional testimony. Black's speech content was in alignment with Root Claim.org findings, described below, which they argue "are a result of what we believe to be the most impressive independent open-source investigation in history". What follows is a wide-ranging critique by Richard Black & Pedro Gatos of the dominant narrative we have been taughtto believe about Syria its leader Assad and the war that has raged since 2011. We share the most recent findings of root claim.org regarding the 8/21/13 Sarin gas attack in Syria that was blamed on President Assad with complete certainty. Root claim.org seeks to do what we at Bringing light Into Darkness does each week, namely, to separate out the political distortion of facts and conjecture around important events and get to the root of the matter by laying out both sides of opposing viewpoints and examining the veracity of claims that support each position. Root Claim .org did precisely that regarding the 2013 Sarin gas attack in Damascus Syria and as recently as 6/18/21 updated their findings claiming with 96.4% certainty that it was not the Assadgovernment but the US supported opposition that executed the horrific gas attack. We should all be concerned that the false narrative that Kerry and President Obama and his administration loudly promoted and has remained the accepted truth by US majority public opinion has been disproven. We invite you to juxtapose the ‘image making' created by mainstream media and our government claims, to the documented contradictions BLID brings to you each week for your considerations.

Rock N Roll as the First Draft Of HistoryWe begin in the midwest college town of Kent, Ohio, in the late spring of 1970. We'll meet three future rockers--students at Kent State University, barely out of their teens--who will be changed forever by what they witness. We'll check in on Motown, where the fluffy pop “Sound of Young America” is still alive, but there's a big change coming, a movement towards a tougher, more topical sound. We'll foreshadow that just a little--lots more to come in a later chapter. Rock N Roll is now Rock, and it is mainstreamed now, big and getting bigger. It set out to subvert the dominant paradigm, now it is the dominant paradigm. It can be downright paradoxical at times; defined by its own contradictions. We come back to the campus for the shattering events of May 4th. They inspire a unique musical response, something we really haven't seen since then.  Written by Richard Evans and Christian SwainHosted and Produced by Christian SwainSound Design by Jerry DanielsenVoice Actors Holly Cantos as the voice of the Kent State Official History Dr. Stephen Arnoff as the voice of Prof. Charles Reich James O'Laughlin as the voice of Jimmy McDonaugh Eric Nash as the voice of Kevin C. On the April 16 2019 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor in chief Peter Sciretta is joined by managing editor Jacob Hall and Senior writer Ben Pearson to talk about the latest Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker news. We'll also discuss Peter's theory based on one shot from the trailer. And we'll answer your mailbag questions about the final chapter of the Skywalker saga. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it). Opening Banter: Before we get into the news, Ben gives us his reaction to the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer.   In The News: Peter: JJ Abrams Explains The Title of ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker', George Lucas' Involvement And Palpatine's Return Ben: ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' Ending Changed During Production, Kathleen Kennedy Talks About the “Blueprint” to Bring Palpatine Back, and More Peter: John Boyega Hints At What We Can Expect From ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' Ben: J.J. Abrams On Rey's Parents: “There's More to the Story” in ‘The Rise of Skywalker' Peter: Is This Spaceship the Key to Unlocking the Biggest Secret of ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker'? In The Mailbag: Talmerian writes in “Am I the only one who saw the opening scene with Ray as some sort of training exercise? There's just a feeling or look that indicates to me she is trying something new and testing herself.   Great episode!” Declan from Toronto writes in “Hey Peter here is a possible theory of how the Emperor has made his return. This is pulling from both the expanded universe and canon. Remember that Darth Sidious (Emperor) was the apprentice of Darth Plagueis, a sith Lord that was so powerful and knowledgeable in the dark side that he could influence midi-chlorians to create life and also keep people from dying. In the expanded universe Darth Sidious learned all of Darth Plagueis' powers and when he had nothing left to learned he killed Plagueis as was the way of the rule of two. In canon you recall in Revenge of the Sith the scene where Palpatine told Anakin about the story of Darth Plagueis and his power. So it's not too far fetch to consider that the Emperor used this power to save himself at the end of Return of the Jedi...just a thought. P.S. Sorry Chris, I have a feeling this will not make you feel any better about the movie.” Cade L writes in: “1) The planet in the SW:IX trailer could be Yavin? the site of the first Death-star destruction and some Jedi Temples and such (according to some EU Legends). Maybe they're after a holocron?     2) Is Endor the moon or the planet? -- I just watched ROTJ again, and I'm pretty sure Vader and the Emperor refer to the planet where the shield generator is and where the ewoks are as "Endor"...I think the moon itself is called "Endor." and although the Ewok Adventure movies are not canon (at least I think they are not) - there are desert scenes in those films...so the mysterious trailer planet could be Endor  Also....let's give some love to the Ewok movies eh? 3) If Palpatine is a force ghost, that would negate the moral tale within ROTS. That film seems to indicate that the dark side cannot produce immortality, but can only prolong physical life (ugly, hateful, sickly life). Whereas, Qui-Gon discovers that there is immorality with the lightside...through ghost-hood? I think that is an important thematic idea as it further cements the tragic irony of Anakin's turn= in seeking immortality for those he loves through the dark side, he brings them death. Whereas by letting go of life and turning to the light side, one can achieve an "immortality" within the force. Assuming JJ cares about that distinction, I would assume Palpatine is alive physically in IX    4) All in all = it would have been nice to have very little Original Trilogy throw-backs in this new trilogy. As it is, Rey, Finn and co. are not going to be given their own story -- their trilogy ends just as their story is really beginning. Having the original characters play so prominently in the new story does a disservice to the new characters. Anyway, Abrams and Kennedy were not brave enough to do this trilogy without massive fan service. JJ tends to do that anyway (look at Into Darkness). Oh well. I look forward to Palpatine anyway…” All the other stuff you need to know: You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today's show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes. /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. Today we take a version excursion and hear some great renditions of some classic songs. We begin with a smoldering "Dazed and Confused" from Hannah Williams & The Affirmations, and then weave our way through more classic rock staples including a soulful take on "Midnight Rider" from Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, a super charged instrumental "Purple Haze" from The Link Quartet, and a powerful "Cumberland Blues" by Charles Bradley & The Menehan Street Band. From there the grooves continue with more familiar favorites like "Let's Dance" and "Night Fever" which, along with a few other nuggets lead us to the Ramsey Lewis Trio for their jazzy version of the War classic "Slippin' Into Darkness" while The Dynamics and their extra funky "Move On Up" bring us back full circle to the classic rock realm for War and their version of "A Day In The Life". 1. [School of Movies 2016] This second foray into New Star Trek is hard to get a balanced view on. Those who liked the 2009 reboot found a movie of similar energy and vibrancy but with more flaws, those who hated the new continuity had more of the same to rage about, especially as it turned out to be a not-so-secret remake of Wrath of Khan. Into Darkness reviewed well with an 86% freshness rating but when people talk about it, usually it's in a negative context.  Alex starts off with a monologue that compares the strengths of both new and old films. This is followed by some lengthy discussion on where they went wrong from everybody else.  Guests: Kaoru Negisa of Sequentially Yours Brendan Agnew of Cinapse Joe Simpson of Anfield Index Movie Night Aaron LaCluyze of Card Advantage
