His master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD caused all that he did to succeed in his hands. So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had. Seduction. Vampires. Romance. Sounds like an Anne Rice movie. Drained is far from being just that… As a matter of fact, the movie is smart and alluring which makes this movie excellent. The film is exceedingly captivating. The character Rhea is fascinating and mysterious, and Madalina played the role extremely well. Romanticism will bite you in the neck! No pun intended, it's the truth because you cannot have romance without vampires. The elements are there, and Madalina broke them down in this interview. It was wonderful to speak to Madalina about her character in this not so typical movie about vampires. Although she was born less than a stones throw away outside Transylvania, she is the perfect rendition of a female vampire who is the predator, but who also has a tiny trickle of humanity within her. I highly recommend watching this movie if you want to get away from the usual, boring, repeated vampire plot. The tone and pace in this film is what you are looking for if you need to watch something different and Madalina delivers. Welcome back to the next edition of Black Hoodie Alchemy! Continuing with last week's theme, we are analyzing another book by the controversial author Robert Greene, known for his works like The 48 Laws of Power, The 50th Law (co-authored with 50 Cent), and the topic of discussion today: The Art of Seduction. And with Valentine's Day just a couple weeks away from the time of release, it seems like as good a time as any for a wildcard episode such as this!(This is a sociological and literary analysis, I am not trying to be a pick-up artist and I am not trying to position myself as any kind of authority on these topics, whether it be casual dating or romance. )Perhaps even more controversial than the 48 Laws, this book operates on an equally cynical premise that everyone is self-interested and just looking to one-up each other. It details 9 seducer-archetypes as well as the many stages of tactical seduction, backed up with analysis of historical figures such as Cleopatra, Princess Diana, JFK, James Dean, David Bowie, Marilyn Monroe and many more. Reading this with the mindset of general psychology and sociology instead of manipulation and power-dynamics is useful, and it wouldn't be too difficult if not for the persistent usage of words like "prey" and "victim". With this book originally being published in 2001, I seriously doubt that this provocateur shock-value language would be used so flippantly if it were written today (as I do think it is meant as shock-value, building off of the 48 Laws of Power). But that said, I don't endorse or condone the language or mindset espoused in this book, and instead I have a good laugh at all the crude language while also trying to extrapolate any useful psychological and sociological context possible from it. I do think this book is interesting and worth reading, but it will only be useful to the critically-thinking adult that is not looking to take anything at face value. Banned in most prisons! That feels like a point in the book's favor, but I'm not entirely sure I can articulate why. The Daily Laws: 366 Meditations on Power, Seduction, Mastery, Strategy, and Human Nature By: Robert Greene Published: 2021 464 Pages Briefly, what is this book about? A "page a day" book collecting bits of wisdom from Robert Greene's other books (Laws of Power, Art of Seduction, Strategies of War, etc.) What's the author's angle? As a general matter Greene is something of a Machiavellian figure, he's going to tell it like it is, and give you the tools you really need to succeed in life. Or at least that's his claim. I generally find his approach to be refreshing, but there are also moments when I would say he takes things too far and dispenses advice that's counterproductive.  Who should read this book? If you're one of the small number of people who likes to have a page of the day book as a way of marking the time from January 1 to December 31, this is an average entry in this very niche genre. But as the genre is not particularly large, any example might be welcome. If you've never done a page a day book I would probably start with Tolstoy's A Calendar of Wisdom. I thought it was quite good. Also, there's an argument to be made for it being the first such book chronologically. (It's the earliest example of a devotional book that wasn't rigidly sectarian.) Finally, it was banned by the Soviets, which immediately gives it ten extra points in my book.  Specific thoughts: Some good advice, some okay advice and a few pieces of actively bad advice
