Kirk to stop the villain Tolian Soran from destroying a planetary system in his attempt to return to an extra-dimensional realm known as the Nexus. Generations was conceived as a transition from the original cast of the Star Trek films to the cast of The Next Generation. After developing several film ideas concurrently, the producers chose a script written by Ronald D. Moore and Brannon Braga. Production began while the final season of the television series was being made. The director was David Carson, who previously directed episodes of the television series; photography was by franchise newcomer John A. Alonzo. Filming took place on the Paramount Studios lots, and on location in Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, and Lone Pine, California. The film's climax was revised and reshot following poor reception from test audiences. The film uses a mix of traditional optical effects alongside computer-generated imagery and was scored by regular Star Trek composer Dennis McCarthy. Star Trek Generations was released in the United States on November 18, 1994. The series explores Khan Noonien Singh during the nearly 20 years that he is stranded on the planet Ceti Alpha V between the events of the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Space Seed" (1967) and Meyer's film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982). Naveen Andrews stars as Khan, with Wrenn Schmidt, Sonya Cassidy, George Takei, and Tim Russ also starring. Work on the project, which originated as a three-episode television miniseries written by Meyer, was first revealed in June 2017. That version did not move forward due to the cost of producing such a short series. Kurtzman revealed plans to expand the Star Trek Universe into scripted podcasts in May 2022, and Meyer announced Star Trek: Khan – Ceti Alpha V that September. In November 2023, the series was being expanded from Meyer's three-episode plan. Voice recording was completed by the end of February 2025, when the main cast and crew were announced along with the shortened title Star Trek: Khan. Additional casting and the series' framing story were revealed in July, with Takei and Russ announced to be reprising their roles from previous Star Trek media. Star Trek: Khan premiered on all major podcast streaming platforms on September 8, 2025. The crew learn that the unique combination of DNA inside Batel matches the biology of the Beholder statue that guards the prison. To open the doorway without M'Benga and Gamble, the crew devise a plan to simultaneously fire on it from the Enterprise and the Farragut; Spock performs a mind meld with James Kirk so the two can perfectly sync their actions. Pike and Batel enter the prison and confront Gamble, who destroys the Beholder and frees the other Vezda. Using her emerging power, Batel creates an illusion in which she and Pike live a full and happy life together. She then traps all the Vezda in the prison and becomes the Beholder. At the same time, the Enterprise must soon rendezvous with the Constellation,[c] so Uhura lies about some data to get Pike to take the ship through the wormhole in search of Ortegas. Ortegas and the Gorn ignite the moon's atmosphere, signaling the Enterprise, but La'An kills the Gorn, mistaking her for an enemy. A Metron appears to Ortegas, explaining that they had brought the two together to see if peace between humans and Gorn was possible.
