Podcast discute o nono episódio da quarta temporada de DS9 O post Balde do Odo #83 Our Man Bashir apareceu primeiro em Trek Brasilis - A fonte definitiva de Star Trek (Jornada nas Estrelas) em português.
This week on Trek Geeks, Bill and Dan are donning their tuxedos (metaphorically, of course) and ordering their martinis "shaken, not stirred" as they dive into the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine classic, Our Man Bashir! Join us for a lively discussion of this holosuite caper that combines Star Trek's charm with a healthy dose of spy genre flair. But wait—there's more! The guys simply can't help themselves, so prepare for an avalanche of references to James Bond, Austin Powers, Our Man Flint, and even Matt Helm. From Sean Connery's suave moves to Mike Myers' groovy antics, nothing is off-limits as they connect the dots between 1960s spy kitsch and the future of Starfleet. You'll laugh, you'll groan (at Dan, mostly), and you might even be inspired to watch a Bond flick or two after this episode. Is this their most over-the-top discussion yet? Possibly. Is it a blast? Absolutely. Don't miss it! Grab your gadgets, geeks—this mission is about to self-destruct in 3… 2… 1…
This episode was recorded on May 20, 2024. Scott and Sam discuss "Our Man Bashir," in which Bashir plays a 1960s secret agent in a holosuite game accompanied by his friend Garak. After a transporter accident, the data of several crew members are temporarily stored as characters in the holosuite, and Bashir and Garak must prevent any of them from dying in the game, or else they will be lost to the real world. Our Man Bashir (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, S4 E10) was recommended by he/him Crimson like the color, who said: This one is probably pretty well liked already but...man it's just a blast so why not love on it too? Bashir's 60s Action Spy Holonovel is interrupted by a transporter emergency and all the major characters are replaced by runabout crew. We get the utter delight of the crew getting to ham it up in absurd Bond-style roles, all the while Garak snarks on the whole mess as a 'real spy.' The Garak-Bashir interactions are great, Colm Meany gets to play a gangster, which he does well, and Avery Brooks gets to monologue, plus the 60s spy camp is perfect. Plus we get a bit of a "B" plot that lets Odo, Quark, Rom, and even Eddington solve problems in the dark, which is neat. AND holodeck malfunctions are a classic of Star Trek! Our Man Bashir first aired on November 27, 1995, written by story by Robert Gillan, teleplay by Ronald D. And Shane wept, for there were no more Austin Powers movies to cover. For his birthday episode this year, Shane made Andrew watch the James Bond homage episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; "Our Man Bashir."
Look out, the Holodeck's malfunctioning and we're all trapped inside! And the safety protocols have been disabled! And the holograms are self aware! Today we're looking at the Holodeck in three different shows and all the horrors it can cause. First up is The Big Sleep, which introduces Picard as the private dick, Dixon Hill and his entourage can't stop touching things. We also both attempt to re-create Picard's epic speech from the end of the episode. Then we've got Kobayashi, where Dal tries to get through a Holodeck Kobayashi Maru with some of the best people in Starfleet (and Odo who's not technically part of Starfleet). Finally, Bashir and a very sassy Garak play at spies in Our Man Bashir, facing death traps and their comrades who think they're characters in a campy spy film! We also get into some musical acts who gave us psychic damage, a nemesis of the pod and use this as an excuse to talk about a rare musical track that's featured in an episode. 00:09:54 TNG: The Big Sleep 00:40:29 Prodigy: Kobayashi 01:03:12 DS9: Our Man Bashir Talking points include: Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light, Arnold Judas Rimmer, Dune (1984), Dune (the SyFy movie), Sting's movie career, Lil Gator, the Pokemon Fuecoco, Dead Ringers, The Maltese Falcon, Miles' patronising clapping, Charlie's egg-shaped head, the facial hair of all the different Poirots, D&D novels, Macross, Reboot, Ba Weep Granna Weep Ninny Bong, LA Confidential, Blob Detective, Red Harvest, Brad Dourif, Thunderstruck, Rock Band, Maximum Overdrive, Star Wars: Rebels, Pandemic, Will Self & Gareth Gates' musical career, Explaining The Wombles & Britpop to Americans, James Bond movies, The Man from UNCLE, Alien, LeCarre, GoldenEye. Matthew (he/him) and Jo (she/they) join “Our Man Bashir” on a secret mission in the holosuite. We talk all things Julian Bashir and James Bond as we have polarizing viewing experiences on this parody episode, we debate if Eddington is responsible for this fiasco and we look at a list of the actors who ALMOST played James Bond on screen. Matthew rants about storage capacity on DS9 and Jo asks if Bashir has a praise kink. As always, be prepared that spoilers may be lurking around every corner just like Garak on Empok Nor.Subscribe for weekly recaps of Star Trek Deep Space Nine, follow us online at @TerokNoir on Twitter for silly memes and polls and contact us by e-mail at teroknoirpod@gmail.com

Normally we have to go out of our way to find opportunities to talk about Star Trek in our Bond podcast. This week though, we are talking about the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Our Man Bashir." So if you thought we've gotten overly nerdy before... Embarrassing correction: Carl erroneously referred to the episode of TOS where Kirk is possessed by Sargon as "Yesterday is Tomorrow," which isn't even an episode of Star Trek. There IS an episode called "Tomorrow is Yesterday" but that's not the right episode title either. The correct title is "Return to Tomorrow." Carl is hereby docked 5 Geek Cred Points.

Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Homefront Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 10: Homefront Part 1. We head to earth where we find some growing paranoia over the changelings. We meet Admiral Leyton (also known as Admiral Falcon Crest) played by Robert Foxworth from Sisko's past. Will this admiral be another disappointment to the rank? Count on it! We also finally meet Grandpa Joe in person, played by the familiar face of Brock Peters. San Diego artist and big DS9 fan Attiba Royster joins us for this two-parter. Check out Attiba's artwork here and listen to his pop culture podcast Teebs and Kid Phoenix Vs. Homefront In this episode, the crew heads back to earth to help Starfleet understand the Dominion threat. Odo comes along to provide some expert advice and Jake comes along to hang out with Grandpa Joe and Nog! Sisko ends up with the crappy job of shoring up security at Starfleet while everyone freaks out about the changelings. Meanwhile, Grandpa Joe is hiding some health issues and complaining about his rights. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: Our Man Bashir Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to season 4, episode 9: Our Man Bashir! It's time for a very famous episode where Julian and Garak are trapped in a holosuite program where Julian is a suave, capable spy. Tune in for our discussion of what makes this episode interesting - spoiler alert, it's not the Bond connection! It's actually a story of jealousy and love! Also listen in for Kim's new crush...it's not Bashir. Is Bashir Our Man? Julian has a new toy: a holo program of him essentially playing James Bond. It even has the music! He's been snubbing Garak in favor of this new program, so Garak noses his way in to see what all the fuss is about. An he's a little horrified at the false portrayal of spy work and maybe a little upset that Julian's type doesn't look more like him. Meanwhile Snodgrass, Odo and Rom are racing to save the rest of the crew from being lost in a transporter accident. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Please listen to some of our favorite episodes like Duet, The Visitor or Heart of Stone and check out the previous episode, The Sword of Kahless. Next time... Join us next week for S4E10: Homefront! In S4E9 of DS9: Our Man Bashir, Julian and Garak are trapped in a holosuite program that looks an awful lot like a James Bond copyright infringement.
James Bond and Julian Bashir. Not many film franchises can boast 25 installments over the course of more than half a century, so for sheer longevity the James Bond cinematic franchise certainly gives Star Trek a run for its money. In some ways, the old-fashioned brutal masculine ethos of Bond feels very much out of place in the utopian Trek future, and yet both are properties forged in the cultural crucible of the 1960s that have been forced to reinvent themselves with every passing generation. In this episode of Primitive Culture, host Duncan Barrett is joined by Carlos Miranda for a trip to the Double-Oh Heaven of Julian Bashir's favorite spy holoprogram. We consider the lasting influence of “Our Man Bashir”—not just on the good doctor's story arc but on the shape of Deep Space Nine as a whole— and try to answer the thorny question of what our fantasy lives have to say about our innermost character. We also ponder whether Commander Bond of M16 would feel more at home in Starfleet or the Obsidian Order. This week, John and Olivia are joined by the wonderfully witty Una McCormack (Author of The AutoBiography of Kathryn Janeway, The Last Best Hope, The Way to The Stars amongst dozens of other books) to argue about Deep Space Nine's Our Man Bashir, in which Julian Bashir's worryingly horny James Bond programme turns into a battle to keep all his friends alive, while Garak tags along to complain about 60s decor and get turned on by being shot. Because no one's allowed to be normal on DS9, apparently.

Brandi, Liam, and Nick embark on a brand new adventure for Our Man Bashir - one which they themselves have written! What is a dollarmite, you ask? Listen and find out!
It's a series of adventures this week on DS9! First up: Kor is back and brings Jadzia and Worf along on a quest for the holy stabber in "The Sword of Kahless"! After that, Julian's Bond-esque holoprogram goes awry while Garak makes fun of his fantasy in "Our Man Bashir"! Also this week: which number, not the One Ring, and spy type v spy type! Recorded May 23, 2020 This week, Nate and Ryan are joined by a very special guest, Dan Moren the author of the Galactic Cold War series. Inviting him in to the usual routine, they talk about their current gaming trends, and their favorite espionage and heist scenes from books, television and movies. As a truly Japanese experience, the three of them eat Hi-Chew and follow it with a Calpis chaser. For the main media of the week, seeing as they had the author himself, the three talk about Dan Moren's most recent book, The Aleph Extraction. Having cornered the author, Nate and Ryan used this opportunity to talk to Dan about his early influences, writing process, character development, world building, and how every space luxury yacht clearly has a closet full of capes. When a runabout gets blown up by space terrorists before the crew can fully transport to Deep Space Nine, it’s up to “Our Man Bashir” to keep their transporter patterns busy - and alive - in the holosuite. This send-up of James Bond (referencing another send-up of the superspy, Our Man Flint) is a holo-DELIGHT. Why does the holosuite always turn off safeties when things go wrong? Which actor plays the campiest character? Why does Garak want Bashir to kill everybody? Deep Space Nine’s least important officers discuss diplomatic mission invitations, cooking, and power coupling repairs on The Promenade. We encourage you to watch “Our Man Bashir” from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 4, Episode 10! BackTrekking returns again to look back at the real-world inspirations of classic Trek episodes! You may be cool, but you'll never be James Coburn eating bouillabaisse in a Marseilles go-go bar! When Bond can't handle the job, when the threat is BIGGER than Spectre, when you ABSOLUTELY MUST hire a secret agent that has at least four multi-ethnic girlfriends . . . you call DEREK FLINT, the international man of mystery, who is at home in the casbah as he is in the boudoir! On this episode, we're talking about the 1966 Eurospy spoof classic and the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode it inspired: "Our Man Bashir"! It's easy to save the world when the holodeck safeties are on, but a computer error makes Bashir's favorite pastime fatally real! We discuss the "Kinks of spy movies", the surprising sensuality of James Coburn, the epitome of '60s cultured charm, unsubtle climate change messaging, Garak as the voice of reason, Bashir's borderline weird proclivities, and getting yelled at by MGM!We also talk Big Freak Energy, having a dog butler, Hans Gruber?, Adam West's Batman, the anti-American eagle, barrels full of women, the Cardassian neck tux, Sisko's hooting, Dr. Tha-noah-s, "Our Man Flute", Gooey talks about his band's new album, Kal's got a lot of stuff to plug, and everyone is going on blast!Tweet at the show or your hosts with your suggestions for future episodes!http://www.twitter.com/backtrekkinghttp://www.twitter.com/ka1ibanhttp://www.twitter.com/gooeyfameKeep tabs on Gooey's band, Parting!https://twitter.com/PartingBandHear what Kal and Just Enough Trope got up to at CONvergence 2019!http://www.twitter.com/justenoughtropeProud member of the Analog Legends network! Shaken, not stirred! When a transporter accident causes the signals of the senior staff to be saved to the station computer, Dr. Bashir's secret agent holosuite program starts to act a bit funny. Bashir is developing nicely as DS9 moves into its fourth season, and Our Man Bashir gives us a tiny window into his innermost desires. We also learn a lot about Garak and his occupation! Sometimes, it's just easiest if you run away. The "secret agent" genre is ripe for both homage and parody but is Our Man Bashir up to the task? Darren and Clay join me to discuss the cultural relevance of James Bond, the optimism of Julian Bashir, and the gastrointestinal fortitude of Avery Brooks! Are you looking for older episodes? Another episode of Everybody Loves Kira! This time the advances are unwanted. Kira has to go to some conference that her boyfriend convinced her to go to, but a shamed and fallen Dukat shows up to take her aboard his junky spaceship. He gets a taste of the terrorist lifestyle, and Kira has to decide if she's left that all behind her or not (spoilers: she mostly has). But also! We get the first appearance of Damar! Who doesn't actually do a whole lot cept sit on the bridge and maybe talk to Ziyal off screen a few times. In Voicemails (1:01:27) Greg has some more thoughts about about Our Man Bashir and we talk what "checklist" episodes we could take or leave. The Rules of Acquisition: A Star Trek Deep Space Nine Podcast
Welcome to Earth! After a terrorist attack, Benjamin, Jake, and Odo get recalled to run Earth Security and hang out in a New Orleans restaurant. That's right, Brock Peters as grandpa Joe Sisko! Changelings have infiltrated the Federation, Starfleet is perhaps comprimised, and President Joe Camel needs convincing. An episode that is strangely prescient for a tv show before the modern War on Terror. A lot to cover in this first part of a two episode story. How does a society balance freedom with security? Does this further dismantle Roddenberry's dream? Just what living family members does Ben Sisko actually have? And in Voicemails! (52:30) It's all about the holodeck. FAIR WARNING: We earn that explicit tag in this one. Twiggy and Kristin from Toronto leave messages on Our Man Bashir, and we go into excruciating detail on holosuite hygiene, technology, and sexual ethics of the future. Have thoughts of your own? Predictions for Star Trek: Discovery? Let us have em! 917 408 3898
This week on Upper Pylon 2, we dive into the adventures of Bashir…Julian Bashir, in the James Bond homage, “Our Man Bashir.” A runabout carrying Sisko, Dax, Kira and O’Brien is sabotaged and explodes just as the crew tries to beam them on board the station. Caught in the pattern buffer, Odo and Eddington are […]

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine gives us their first Worf-centric episode in “The Sword of Kahless”, and it’s… okay? But don’t fret! “Our Man Bashir” is a lot of fun and manages to find a new spin on a holodeck story. iTunes Google Play RSS
Covering “The Sword of Kahless” and “Our Man Bashir.”
Our Man Bashir Commentary. From the moment he first encountered Garak, Julian Bashir had a fascination with the mysterious Cardassian. But why? Could it have been a secret fascination with James Bond and the spy games of 1960s Earth? During Deep Space Nine's fourth season, Ronald D. Moore and Bob Gillan brought us a delightful holodeck story with life or death stakes for the station's crew. And like almost all DS9 episodes, the laughs were mixed with some meaningful character development—especially between the resident doctor and tailor. In this episode of The Orb hosts Christopher Jones and Matthew Rushing bring you a commentary for "Our Man Bashir" and explore the background behind the episode, what it says about Jules, the brilliance of Avery Brooks, and why everyone wants a honey bear.
A commentary for the Deep Space Nine episode "Our Man Bashir." Originally published as The Orb 53.
We open up this week's show by talking about math for no discernible reason, then move on to our usual topics: grousing about the procedural mechanics of Elementary, gushing about Deep Space Nine -- in this case, the delightfully silly "Our Man Bashir" and the brooding two-parter "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost" -- and raving about Friday Night Lights.Next week, Jack's dad wants to talk to about a couple of things on LOST!, with "Something Nice Back Home," "Cabin Fever," and "There's No Place Like Home, Part 1."
We do. You've been warned. We also talk about another "okay" episode of Elementary, a disappointing episode of Friday Night Lights, and then vent about LOST, which gets flat-out mean in "Ji Yeon," "Meet Kevin Johnson," and "The Shape of Things to Come." Next week, we're back to Deep Space Nine, with "Our Man Bashir," "Homefront," and "Paradise Lost."
Our Man Bashir. The holodeck malfunction was a staple of storytelling on The Next Generation. So as the Deep Space Nine writing team set out to chart a different course, they shied away from this perhaps overused plot device. But sometimes a story comes along that it is just too fun not to tell. And if you can find a way to do it that ties into your overall premise, that's all the better. In this episode of The Ready Room we're joined by Michael Fisher and Larry Nemecek to discuss DS9's romp through the 1960s life of secret agents as Dr. Bashir's holosuite fantasy goes terribly wrong, yet turns out to be the hero. In our news segment we find out what special features are in store for us on the Trek Nation special edition DVD, discuss the value and functionality of a Spock coin bank, make ice for the 24th century, find out which Abramsverse actor has been secured for Star Trek Las Vegas, and pay our final respects to Katherine Woodville, who played Natira in “For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky.”
Discussing DS9 Episodes 81-84. "The Sword of Kahless" (481) @ 00:57, "Our Man Bashir" (482) @ 17:28, "Homefront" (483) & "Paradise Lost" (484) @ 34:12. Also our thoughts on TNG in HD @56:45.
"Our Man Bashir" from DS9 is the main topic - I do a full episode commentary for this episode. Also some Trek movie news, etc. Some listener movie reviews and a collectible review!
