It's our 200th episode! A victory for quantity over quality and our small, chill audience of friends! To celebrate, Anika and Liz are talking about Star Trek: Open A Channel - A Woman's Trek, Nana Visitor's book about women in Star Trek. Open A Channel is much more substantial than just girl power feminism. How Lucille Ball was erased from Star Trek's narrative The throughline of mentorship We gently interrogate Nana Visitor's second wave biases We also have two separate (but related) rants about Janice Rand and the "glorified secretary" concept Hair Trek Marina Sirtis versus … a lot of people Bodyshaming from fandom. "The idea that fat people should not exist in your utopia is really horrible and RFK Jr coded." The editorial decision to exclude Michelle Hurd

Episode Notes CW: Pandemic/Bioweapon The Quickening: The most annoying Quark has been, and the most angry Worf has been, so far. Kira, Bashir, and Dax road trip time! Bashir grapples with Big Emotions. Body Parts: Miles Suffers (parental). Body Swap plot, but a brand new version--and the most Star Trek gender reveal party ever. What a great way to hide Nana Visitor's pregnancy. Miles/Kira/Keiko polycule? The other plot is... different. Of course Ferengi have annual insurance physicals. BRUNT, FCA. Garak is definitely not an assassin. Quark actually has friends. BabSpace9 is a production of the Okay, So network. Anthony and Laurie start the week discussing the release of the Roddenberry Archive’s latest short film Unification, which has fandom buzzing over the return of William Shatner’s James T. Kirk. Roddenberry also released some cool new interviews with Shatner, Robin Curtis, and George Takei. They catch up on the latest news on Strange New Worlds and discuss Laurie’s conversation with DS9’s Nana Visitor about the journey she took writing Open A Channel – A Woman’s Trek. [24:07] The podcasters then pivot to Lower Decks’ “Of Gods and Angles.” Both agree it was a lot of fun but also predictable, while the highlight was the Boimler story with Dr. T’Ana. They roll in some audio from Tony’s new interview with Gillian Vigman talking about how she ad-libs T’Ana’s signature curses. [45:55] They wrap with a former NASA official who flashed the Vulcan salute while being sworn into for Congressional testimony, and how to stay in the loop on Trek Talks, which has a growing lineup of star-studded panels for the January 2025 charity event in support of the Hollywood Food Coalition.

KIRA'S SOLEMN VOW leads to a shocking truth: vengeance is not moral. In the course of investigating a single Cardassian she comes to the realization that collective punishment of all Cardassians isn't justice, even if this particular Cardassian wants to face judgment for his people's crimes. It's one of the most intense episodes of Star Trek ever made and to help Bryan discuss this Deep Space Nine achievement is writer Andrew Bloom (Slashfilm, Consequence, The Spool). IT'S THE NINETIES. The Star Trek franchise has never been more popular and striking while the iron's hot is the Deep Space Nine writing staff determined to chart their own course away from the Next Gen juggernaut. But is this show's specificity and sometimes uncomfortable parallels with modern history a bridge too far for the audience of the time? How about today's audience? Bryan and Kristen explore an episode that deals with Bajoran nationalism, surprisingly weird casting, and an even wackier honeypot scene. The grades kick in at (34:06). Here's that TV Guide cover that Bryan references. Here's the archive of Tim Lynch's Star Trek reviews. If you've been enjoying the show, consider rating and reviewing us on Apple Podcasts, in the Spotify app, or wherever you listen to podcasts. This week, Josh and Drusilla have the blues, BUT! They cheer themselves up with the incredibly chic The Sentinel (1977.) From wiki: “The Sentinel is a 1977 American supernatural horror film directed by Michael Winner, and starring Cristina Raines, Chris Sarandon, Ava Gardner, Burgess Meredith, Sylvia Miles, and Eli Wallach. The plot focuses on a young model who moves into a historic Brooklyn brownstone that has been sectioned into apartments, only to find that the building is owned by the Catholic diocese and is a gateway to Hell. It is based on the 1974 novel of the same name by Jeffrey Konvitz, who also co-wrote the screenplay with director Winner. It also features Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, John Carradine, Jerry Orbach, Tom Berenger, Nana Visitor and Beverly D'Angelo in supporting roles.”Josh is rewatching Project Runway which causes the pair to discuss how mean the 2000s were and all the nasty reality shows and horror films from the era. Dru brings up the super fucked-up There's Something About Miriam. They discuss the Errol Morris documentary Tabloid. They also discuss The Swan and Boy Meets Boy. Drusilla is really bummed about the allegations against Justin Sane, front man for Anti-Flag. They rage about J.K. Rowling. Enya is the model! Drusilla saw the new Indian Jones and the new Mission: Impossible. Also discussed: Cannon Films, Susan Sarandon, Jeff Goldblum, Charles Bronson, and more!NEXT WEEK: The Addiction (1995)Website: http://www.bloodhauspod.comTwitter: https://twitter.com/BloodhausPodInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/bloodhauspod/Email: bloodhauspod@gmail.comDrusilla's art: https://www.sisterhydedesign.com/Drusilla's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hydesister/ Drusilla's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/drew_phillips/Joshua's website: https://www.joshuaconkel.com/Joshua's Twitter: https://twitter.com/JoshuaConkelJoshua's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/joshua_conkel/Joshua's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/joshuaconkel
