It is a region of radical contrasts, hidden old-vine treasures, and a massive wine revolution. So, pour yourself a glass of something delicious, and let's go explore the breathtaking crossroads of Navarra!  Please take a moment of your time to subscribe, rate and review Exploring the Wine Glass. For three years, I interviewed accomplished women on this show — surgeons, founders, lawyers, executives. Different fields, different decades, different lives. And every one of them had been handed the same advice: work twice as hard, prove yourself, earn your seat, and figure out the rest of your life on the side. They all paid the same price — burnout, exhaustion, and no guarantee that success was even waiting at the end. I know, because I'm one of them. After 15 years of becoming a double-board-certified trauma surgeon, raising six kids, and following every rule, I almost walked away from medicine. This episode is the relaunch. New name, new mission, new question I want every ambitious woman to start asking. The Professional Muslim Women Podcast is now The Defiant Career — same feed, no need to resubscribe. Hey Streetwalkers. This is a throwback episode with Mighty Mighty BossToneS frontman & founding member of The Defiant Dicky Barrett.Dicky first appeared as guest for the 400th episode on 2.26.24 It was such a compelling & fun episode, l decided it needed to be re-visited!Enjoy this throwback episode, tell a friend, and thanks for listening! Dicky BarrettTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Richard Michael Barrett. Better know as Dicky; he is also called The Godfather of Skacore. Dicky is former frontman and founding member of The Mighty Mighty BossToneS, and current frontman and founder of the new super group The Defiant. In this episode, we chat about how he came to be the bow-tied plaid leader of The Bosstones, and some of the cool things he got to do along the way. He tells the story of getting to open for The Misfits while he was still in high school, as well as getting to play Fenway Park many years later. Dicky shares stories of meeting and befriending Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel when they were just getting started; and some of the fun things he got to do as a result of these friendships. Adam uses Bosstones' songs in the intro and outro of his Adam Carolla Show podcast; and Dicky was the announcer for Jimmy Kimmel Live for nearly 20 years. Of course, I ask Dicky if I can play my all time favorite MMB song... and he says yes! Obviously we discuss how MMB ended up in the cult classic iconic film Clueless, and what made them decide to do it. Next, Dicky explains what happened between him and the other Bosstones, as well as his relationship with the Jimmy Kimmel Live late night show. Finally, we discuss his new band The Defiant. This super group features former members of: The Mighty Mighty BossToneS, The Offspring, Smash Mouth, Street Dogs, and The Briggs. The Defiant is: Pete Parada, Greg Camp, Johnny Rioux, Joey LaRocca, and Dicky Barrett. Their debut album "If We're Really Being Honest" was released in late October 2023. Naturally I ask him if I can play my favorite song from this new album.... and Dicky said yes again! I had such a blast talking with Dicky, I think we are best friends now! Don't be surprised if you hear more from Dicky on Fascination Street Podcast. This dude is rad as balls. Thanks Dicky! And thanks Mike Dawson, you know what you did.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?” 2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'” 4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

A child screaming over shoes, melting down after school, or exploding over a tiny disappointment may look defiant from the outside. But in this episode, Dana Kay explains why many ADHD behaviors are not simply "bad behavior," attention-seeking, or manipulation. Often, they are signs of a nervous system under stress. Dana shares one of the biggest mindset shifts she  had as both a practitioner and a parent: behavior is usually the last thing happening in the chain. Underneath the meltdown may be blood sugar crashes, gut inflammation, food sensitivities, poor sleep, mouth breathing, nutrient deficiencies, or chronic inflammation. When those stressors stack, the brain and body can shift into survival mode. In this solo episode, Dana walks parents through the biology beneath ADHD behavior, including why after-school meltdowns are so common, how the gut-brain connection can affect mood and focus, and why stable fuel matters for emotional regulation. Most importantly, she reminds parents that understanding biology does not mean removing boundaries. It means learning to respond with more clarity, compassion, and strategy. Their body may be fighting to survive. [01:47] Dana sets up one of the biggest mindset shifts she has had as both a practitioner and a parent. [02:10] Behavior is usually the last thing happening in the chain, which means parents need to ask what is happening underneath it. [02:46] Many ADHD kids are carrying a heavy stress load, and when the body is overloaded, behavior can fall apart. [02:54] Dana shares the Costco meltdown story with her son Oliver and how it became a turning point in how she viewed his reactions. [04:47] When a child's nervous system is overloaded, the brain can shift into survival mode quickly. [06:49] Signs like hunger meltdowns, after-school crashes, tiny disappointments feeling huge, and fast mood shifts are not random. [07:01] After-school meltdowns are often a clue that a child has been masking and holding everything together all day. [08:44] Dana explains that ADHD symptoms often have stacked stressors underneath them, including blood sugar crashes, gut inflammation, food sensitivities, mouth breathing, nutrient deficiencies, and chronic inflammation. [10:06] Stable fuel matters because the brain cannot regulate properly when blood sugar is crashing. [10:13] Dana explains why the gut-brain connection is one of the biggest light bulb moments in understanding ADHD symptoms. [11:57] Understanding biology does not mean removing boundaries. It changes how parents interpret and respond to behavior. [12:43] Dana encourages parents to start simple by looking for patterns instead of reacting immediately. [15:05] Dana closes with the reminder that a child is not broken. Their behavior is communication. MEMORABLE MOMENTS "Their body may be fighting to survive." "But behavior is usually the last thing happening in the chain." "And when the body is overloaded, behavior goes out the window." "His reactions, they weren't random, you know, and that realization changed everything." "Those aren't random." "Home is the place, their body, their nervous system finally feels safe enough to unravel." "If the brain does not have stable fuel, it can't regulate properly." "Just because symptoms are showing up behaviorally doesn't mean the root issue is purely behavioral." DANA KAY RESOURCES

Two travelers walk miles with a stranger, their eyes somehow unable to recognize who he is… until suddenly, they do. Like a Magic Eye image, beauty and meaning are often already present; sometimes we just need to soften our gaze to recognize it.   LINKS:  Current Conversations | Connect | YouTube |  Coming Up TRANSCRIPT: "The Road Is Already There: Waking Up to Beauty" Opening:: The Magic Eye Show Magic Eye… bring a couple ppl up to “race”... ask what their “trick” is… Do you all know what this is? Maybe if you're like me, you also know the particular frustration of standing in front of one of these and seeing absolutely nothing. Just noise. Just chaos. Everyone else around you is gasping and pointing — I see it, I see it — and you're standing there thinking: there is nothing there. This is a scam! And then — maybe — something shifts. You relax your eyes. You soften your gaze. You stop trying so hard to find it. And suddenly, almost against your will: there it is. A dolphin. A spaceship. A whole three-dimensional world that was present the entire time, completely invisible until you stopped straining to see it. The image was always there. You just needed a DIFFERENT WAY OF LOOKING. That's the story we're sitting with today. The Story: Road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13–35) It's the same day as the resurrection. Two of the people who had been learning from Jesus are walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus — about seven miles away (from here to downtown Hopkins, or here to the State Fair). One is named Cleopas, and he's traveling with another person the author of this book leaves out… They are walking away. Away from the city where everything fell apart. Away from the site of the execution. Away from the tomb and the wild, confusing reports the women brought back that morning that nobody quite knew what to do with. They're processing. Talking through the wreckage. And a stranger falls into step beside them along the road. The stranger asks what they're talking about. And they stop — looking downcast — and say: are you the only person in Jerusalem who doesn't know what happened? There's something almost darkly funny about that. They proceed to explain the whole story to Jesus. He listens. Then he walks them through the scriptures, reframing everything. They reach Emmaus as evening falls. The stranger acts as if he's continuing on — and they say: stay with us. It's getting late. He stays. They sit down to eat. He takes the bread, blesses it, breaks it, gives it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished. They turn to each other: weren't our hearts burning within us while he talked to us on the road? They had been walking with him the whole time and couldn't see it. Until the bread broke, and their eyes softened, and there it was. What They Were Walking Away From I want to sit with this story and look at it through the lens of liberation for a moment, because it matters who these people are and what they were carrying. Cleopas says to the stranger: we had hoped he was the one who would redeem Israel. The Greek word there — lytrōo — means to liberate from an oppressive situation. To set free. These weren't abstract spiritual hopes. They were political hopes. They had hoped this was the one who would break the power of Rome, dismantle the systems of domination, set the occupied people free. And instead he was executed, in an extremely public, humiliating way Rome had devised specifically to crush movements and make examples of leaders. So they're walking away not just from grief, but from the particular grief of crushed political hope. The grief of people who believed change was possible and watched it get squashed. That is not a distant or unfamiliar grief. Many of us carry some version of it. And the story doesn't say: get over it. Go back. Pretend it didn't happen. The story says: a stranger joins you in it. Listens to you talk through it. And eventually — in the act of sharing a meal with an unexpected guest — something you couldn't see before comes into focus. Paying Attention as a Practice Robin Wall Kimmerer (botanist, writer, member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation) has spent her life arguing that attention is not PASSIVE. It is an act. A PRACTICE. A form of reciprocity. In her framework, drawn from Indigenous ways of knowing, the world is already speaking. Already offering gifts. The question is not whether beauty and meaning are present — they are. The question is whether we have learned, or been willing, to receive them. She writes that paying attention is a form of reciprocity with the living world — receiving its gifts with open eyes and open heart. This is exactly what the Emmaus story is about. The beauty — the presence — was already there on the road. It had been there for seven miles. In this story, the disciples' eyes were, as Luke puts it, kept from recognizing him. Not because the presence was absent. Because something in their grief, their exhaustion, their framework kept them from seeing what was right in front of them. The Magic Eye image was already there. Their gaze just hadn't softened yet. And here's the liberationist move in Kimmerer's thinking that connects directly to this story: the practices that train us to notice beauty, to receive gifts, to recognize interconnection — those practices are not luxuries for people who have the time and leisure to be contemplative. They are, she argues, acts of resistance against systems that profit from our disconnection. A culture that keeps us distracted, anxious, consuming, competing — that culture depends on us not noticing the gifts that are already here. Not recognizing each other. Not seeing the fire that was already burning on the shore. Defiant attention is a revolutionary act. The Meal As the Moment Notice where recognition happens in this story. Not during the stimulating conversation while they were on the road — though something was stirring (weren't our hearts burning?). Not through an argument or a proof. Not through a performance of power. Recognition happens at a table. When food is distributed and shared. When a stranger is invited to stay and then becomes the host. This is how the writer of Luke tells the entire story of Jesus. Over and over, the pivotal moments happen around food. The outcast is seen at a dinner party. The lost son is welcomed home with a feast. The thousands are fed with what seemed like not enough. And now: Jesus, once again in their presence, is recognized in the breaking of bread. From a womanist perspective, [[every table can be a SACRED SPACE.]] It is where bodies gather. Where hunger is acknowledged. Where the work of sustaining life happens. Where people who might otherwise stay strangers become known to each other. And in this story, it's a table in an ordinary house in an ordinary village, with two grieving, exhausted travelers who thought to offer hospitality to someone they didn't yet recognize. The beauty was in the ordinary. The coming back to life was in a meal. The recognition was in the distribution of food. What This Asks of Us… So what does it mean to live with a softened gaze — especially right now, in a world that gives us a thousand reasons every day to harden? Here's what I think: it doesn't mean ignoring the hard things. These disciples didn't ignore them. They talked about them for seven miles. They named the execution. They named the dashed hope. They named the confusion & chaos. Soft gaze is not the same as averted gaze. You can see the wound clearly and refuse to let the wound be the only thing you see. What Kimmerer points to, and what this story enacts, is something like this: the world is more beautiful and more interconnected than the loudest voices in our culture want us to believe. The story of scarcity, isolation, and meaninglessness is not the whole story — and insisting on that, quietly and stubbornly, in the way we pay attention and share meals and recognize each other, is a form of resistance. What would it mean to be defiant in our insistence that beauty is real? That connection is real? That everything actually is interconnected? That a stranger on the road might be carrying something we need? The disciples had to invite the stranger to stay before their eyes opened. Hospitality preceded recognition. They didn't know who he was when they said come in, stay with us, it's getting late. They just knew the evening was coming and there was room. Closing Practice One practice this week… Soften your gaze once — deliberately — at something you usually rush past on the way to something else. A person. A tree. A meal. A moment with someone you love. A moment with a stranger. The view out a window you stopped noticing. Don't try to extract meaning from it. Don't analyze it. Just let it be there. Let yourself receive it… And notice: was something already present that you hadn't been still enough to see? The road is already there. The stranger is already walking beside you. The bread is about to break. You already have eyes to see it…! May it be so.

In this episode of The Context of White Supremacy, we dive deep into the sobering realities of workplace safety and professional conduct. We open with an honest update on recent incidents of workplace violence involving black workers, specifically examining the tragic case of Chauncia Meekins in Missouri—a Steak 'n Shake employee whose life was cut short following a senseless onion ring dispute. We also analyze the recent shooting at a Florida Taco Bell, where a 20-year-old black male was arrested after a disagreement over a soda refill escalated into gunfire. Beyond the headlines, we tackle the complex dynamics of workplace management. How do you lead effectively when faced with defiance or Racist opposition? Gus T. and the chatbot break down tactical advice for two specific scenarios: 1) Supervising Defiant Non-White Workers: How to maintain order and productivity without compromising professional standards. 2) Managing Irascible White Employees: Addressing the unique challenge of subordinates who use racially charged tropes—like accusing Black supervisors of being "uppity" or "disrespectful"—to undermine authority. Counter-Racist Suggestions: Gus T. emphasizes that the most powerful tools in a manager's arsenal are thorough documentation and the presence of credible witnesses. Whether you are neutralizing a conduct issue or defending your professional reputation, these tactics are essential for maintaining a safe and productive environment. #ManagingARacistWhiteMan #TheCOWS17Years INVEST in The COWS – [http://paypal.me/TheCOWS](http://paypal.me/TheCOWS) Cash App: [https://cash.app/$TheCOWS](https://cash.app/$TheCOWS) CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

Trump is the bratty monster who was never told no or given a boundary. As prices increase across the country and his poll numbers drop Fox News cannot face reality - the network helped raise this destructive beast. The pathological narcissist that they propped up and worshipped, and paid hundreds of millions in a defamation lawsuit to cover for has turned out to be a mad wannabe king hellbent on enriching himself and sticking his name and image on everything near him.As the president repeatedly makes false claims about the war with Iran the network dutifully repeats them only to correct itself hours later. Hopefully we won't all be burned to cinders along with him.Rupert Murdoch must be happy to have a lower tax rate.Last week the network also heavily promoted stories surrounding the criminal indictment issued against the SPLC (Southern Poverty Law Center). James Cromwell, Alfre Woodard, and Alice Krige join cast members from the 1987 series STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION who were starring in their very first solo STAR TREK motion picture. In the film, the Borg travel back in time, intent on preventing Earth's first contact with an alien species. Captain Picard and his crew pursue them to ensure that Zefram Cochrane makes his maiden flight, reaching warp speed. The original soundtrack album was released at the time of the film's release on GNP Crescendo Records, featuring 44 minutes worth of score with two licensed songs. Welcome to Day 2834 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom. Day 2834 – The Defiant Messiah – Luke 6:1-11 Putnam Church Message – 03/08/2026 Luke's Account of the Good News - “The Defiant Messiah”   Last week, we continued our study of the ministry of Jesus Christ with a message titled “Is It Okay to Party with Sinners?”  In other words, “Are we willing to carry the presence of Christ into places where grace is needed most?” Today, we continue with the fifteenth message in Luke's narrative of the Good News of Jesus Christ in a message titled “The Defiant Messiah.”  Our Core verses for this week are Luke 6:1-11, found on page 1599 of your Pew Bibles. Follow along as I read. SCRIPTURE READING — Luke 6:1-11 (NIV)  Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath 1 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and his disciples began to pick some heads of grain, / rub them in their hands and / eat the kernels. 2 Some of the Pharisees asked, “Why are you doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?” 3 Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” 5 Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” 6 On another Sabbath, he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was shriveled. 7 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath. 8 But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there. 9 Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?” 10 He looked around at them all, and then said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 11 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus. Opening Prayer Father, thank You for Your Word and for the Lord Jesus, who shows us Your heart with perfect clarity. Open our minds to understand this passage, and open our hearts to receive it. Rescue us from harsh religion, from pride, and from confusing our traditions with Your truth. Teach us to love mercy, to honor Christ as Lord, and to trust Him enough to follow where He leads. In Jesus' name, amen. Introduction A wise mentor once told me, “Choose your battles carefully.” That is good advice in life and in ministry. Not every disagreement is worth a fight. Not every irritation deserves a confrontation. Not every preference needs to become a principle. But sometimes a battle must be chosen. Sometimes the issue is too important to ignore. Sometimes the truth of God is being distorted. Sometimes people are being crushed in the name of religion. And when that happens, silence is not wisdom. Silence is surrender. That is what we see in Luke 6. Jesus did not look for unnecessary fights. He was not quarrelsome. Most quarrels stem from insecurity on the part of one or both parties. Jesus was not insecure. But when the Pharisees used God's law in ways that burdened people and obscured the heart of God, Jesus did not back down. He chose that battle. And that is why I'm calling this message “The Defiant Messiah.” He was not defiant against the Father. He was defiant against distortion. He was not defiant against Scripture. He was defiant against those who twisted Scripture into something God never intended. By Luke 6, the tension has been building for some time. Jesus has taught with authority, cast out demons, healed the sick, forgiven sins, called unlikely disciples, and eaten with tax collectors and sinners. The Pharisees have already been irritated by Him. But now He touches the one thing they considered theirs to police and control: the Sabbath. And when He does, He draws a line in the sand. Main Point 1: Jesus Restores the Purpose of God's Law Luke 6:1–5 Luke begins with a Sabbath scene in a grainfield: “One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples broke off heads of grain, rubbed off the husks in their hands, and ate the grain. But some Pharisees said, ‘Why are you breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?'” At first, this sounds like a small matter. The disciples are hungry. They pick grain. They eat. But to the Pharisees, this was not a snack. It was a violation. In their interpretation, plucking grain was reaping, rubbing it was threshing, and separating it was winnowing. In other words, they had taken ordinary hunger and turned it into Sabbath labor. Now we must be clear: according to the actual Law of Moses, the disciples were doing nothing wrong. Deuteronomy 23 allowed a hungry traveler to pluck grain by hand from a field. So, the issue was not God's law. The issue was the Pharisees' interpretation of it. That is always where legalism lives. Legalism confuses human rules with divine commands. It elevates tradition until people can no longer tell the difference between what God actually said and what someone religious has added. Jesus answers them by going to Scripture. He says, in effect, “Haven't you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry?” (3) He points them to 1 Samuel 21, where David, fleeing for his life, received consecrated bread from the priest.  4 He went into the house of God and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests can eat. He also gave some to his companions.” Bread normally reserved for priests>was shared because human need mattered. God never intended holy bread to sit untouched while hungry men starved. Jesus' point is simple and profound: God's law was never meant to work against mercy. Then Jesus says the line that changes everything: “The Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath.” (5) That is not merely a clever reply. It is a claim of authority. The Sabbath belongs to God. Jesus says He is Lord over it. In other words, He is not simply giving an opinion about Sabbath practice. He is reclaiming divine authority over the very gift God gave. Object Lesson Hold up a wrapped gift and say, “Here is a gift for each of you, ‘Don't enjoy it, don't touch it wrongly, don't use it incorrectly, just be anxious around it.' At some point, the gift stops feeling like a gift and starts feeling like a burden.” That's what had happened to the Sabbath. God intended the Sabbath to be rest, trust, delight, and covenant blessing. The Pharisees had turned it into a form of fear management. Jesus restores the gift to its original purpose. Related Scriptures Exodus 20:8–11 — Sabbath as a gift rooted in creation. 8 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 You have six days each week for your ordinary work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. Deuteronomy 5:12–15 — Sabbath as freedom from slavery. 15 Remember that you were once slaves in Egypt, but the Lord your God brought you out with his strong hand and powerful arm. That is why the Lord your God has commanded you to rest on the Sabbath day. Mark 2:27 — 27 Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath. Hosea 6:6 — God desires mercy, not empty ritual I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to...
