Cancer season invites us to work with emotions, intuition, and nurturing creativity as we shift from the active Gemini energy into a more heart-centered space. The archetype of Cancer offers tools for self-discovery, mental health, and spiritual connection by encouraging us to feel our feelings while maintaining balance between openness and self-protection.Cancer, symbolized by the protective crab, beckons us to explore our emotions, intuition, and subconscious with tender awareness. This water sign carries the energy of the cosmic mother – nurturing, creative, and deeply intuitive. Through a beautiful balance of vulnerability and protection, Cancer teaches us to create sanctuary both in our external environments and within our own hearts.Every archetype carries both gifts and shadows. Cancer's light side offers emotional intelligence, creative nurturing, and intuitive wisdom. Its shadow can manifest as emotional baggage, fear-based protection, or unhealthy attachment to past wounds. The journey isn't about eliminating these shadows but finding harmony between them. We learn to practice discernment rather than fear, allowing our hearts to remain both protected and open.Ready to dive deeper into emotional wisdom and heart-centered living? What gifts can we find in life's impermanence? Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wright tackles this profound question in a heartfelt exploration of finding peace with life's transient nature.Through readings of her original works "Finding Home" and "Dancing Leaves," Dr. BethAnn reflects on the struggle and beauty of letting go – whether of places, relationships, or versions of ourselves that no longer fit. She shares her fascination with "the void" – that uncomfortable space between what was and what will be – and how it serves as fertile ground for our most significant transformations.Drawing wisdom from Japanese concepts like wabi-sabi (finding beauty in imperfection) and mono no aware (the poignant awareness of transience), she offers a philosophical framework for embracing change rather than resisting it. "We are both broken and whole simultaneously," she explains, inviting listeners to find comfort in this paradox of human experience. For anyone navigating loss, transition, or the bittersweet awareness that nothing lasts forever, this episode provides both validation and perspective. Dr. BethAnn's gentle insights remind us that finding beauty in impermanence isn't about achieving a perfect state of acceptance, but developing a practice of surrender – one that allows us to fully inhabit each precious, fleeting moment.Join us next week for an all-new episode of Your Heart Magic and more psychology, spirituality, storytelling, and heart wisdom.--Your Heart Magic is a space where heart wisdom, spirituality, and psychology meet. What if the key to inner peace isn't eliminating life's challenges but learning to hold space for them alongside joy? Dr. BethAnn explores how replacing "but" with "and" in our emotional vocabulary creates profound mental flexibility and resilience.Drawing from her personal grief journey following her brother's passing in 2016, Dr. BethAnne shares how she discovered the power of embracing life's contradictions. During a trip to Oregon, she experienced deep sorrow while simultaneously being moved by breathtaking natural beauty – a living embodiment of the "both/and" philosophy that would later influence her books and teachings. The episode challenges our tendency to postpone happiness until circumstances change. Rather than waiting for perfect conditions, Dr. Bethann invites us to claim our right to peace and joy now, regardless of external situations. This isn't toxic positivity but a revolutionary stance that acknowledges challenges while refusing to let them dominate our entire emotional landscape.Mental flexibility emerges as a critical skill for navigating today's rapidly changing world. When we embrace our full emotional experience, joining everything with "and," we discover authentic, sustainable peace that transcends circumstances.Join us next week for an all-new episode of Your Heart Magic and more psychology, spirituality, storytelling, and heart wisdom.--Your Heart Magic is a space where heart wisdom, spirituality, and psychology meet. What happens when you follow your heart's calling but the path looks nothing like you expected? Dr. BethAnn Kapansky-Wright takes us deep into the wilderness of uncertainty where dreams and visions truly take form.Drawing from her personal journey that began on Memorial Day 2016, Dr. Bethann shares the soul-shifting decision to leave her established psychology practice in Alaska and relocate to Kauai following her brother's passing. This wasn't merely a change of scenery but a radical leap of faith that challenged her expectations about how spiritual callings should unfold."I expected specifics, concrete, a blueprint," she reveals, describing the frustration of seeking stability while simultaneously craving expansion. Instead of receiving clear instructions for her new life path, she discovered something far more valuable—that the questions, confusion, and surrendering were essential components of the vision itself. For anyone struggling with dreams that aren't manifesting as planned or visions that seem stuck in limbo, this episode offers profound wisdom about divine timing and the magic that awaits when we release our grip on certainty. The most transformative journeys often require us to trust the process and find wonder in not knowing exactly where we're going to land.Ready to transform your relationship with uncertainty? Listen now and discover how to pull your own parachute cord when life's biggest leaps leave you feeling suspended between worlds. --Your Heart Magic is a space where heart wisdom, spirituality, and psychology meet. Welcome to a luminous exploration of Gemini energy, where we dive into the profound wisdom held within this fascinating air sign. Rather than focusing solely on Gemini's reputation as the social butterfly of the zodiac, we uncover its deeper invitation to embrace duality and find wholeness through integrating seemingly contradictory aspects of ourselves. This season arrives with refreshing movement after Taurus's grounding energy, encouraging intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and social connection. But beyond these surface qualities lies the heart of Gemini wisdom: learning to hold space for all our parts, especially those we might judge or reject.Key talking points include:• Air signs bring energy of communication, ideas, intellect, curiosity, and movement• Gemini offers a refreshing shift after Taurus season, encouraging social connection and flexibility• True shadow work involves witnessing ourselves with compassion rather than judgment• Learning to see value in both our light and dark aspects creates wholeness• Finding balance between contradictions is easier said than done but essential for growth• Our human journey involves both struggle and beauty - we need both for completenessWhether you're feeling called to embrace more movement and social connection or diving deep into internal integration work, this episode offers both inspiration and practical tools. Try the simple yet powerful journaling prompt of writing "I am" statements that embrace your internal contradictions – a perfect practice for harnessing Gemini's gift of holding multiple truths simultaneously. The paradox of human existence reveals itself most clearly in our relationship with change. Despite living on a planet where transformation is constant, where we ourselves evolve from infancy through adulthood and beyond, we resist letting go with surprising tenacity. This resistance often stems not from attachment to what we're holding, but fear of the unknown that follows release.Drawing from her books and personal experiences, Dr. Bethann explores the nuanced art of letting go through contemplative questions that help us understand our own resistance. "What am I gaining by holding on? Who would I be without this? What am I afraid will happen if I let this go?" These gentle inquiries create space for self-discovery without judgment, allowing us to recognize patterns that keep us clinging to what no longer serves us.Key talking points include: • We are hardwired for change yet naturally resist it out of fear of the unknown• Letting go happens in degrees - sometimes subtly, sometimes dramatically• Questions like "What am I gaining by holding on?" can help us understand our resistance• Grief represents a unique form of letting go that follows its own timeline• When something dies within us through release, something new is always reborn• Trust the process of "unbecoming to become" as we shed old identities• Find joy in the unknown by remembering that love is the thread guiding us through changeReady to explore what might be waiting on the other side of release? This episode invites you to trust the process of "unbecoming to become" as you navigate your own journey of letting go. What if we became stubborn about creating joy? What if we insisted on our right to follow our hearts, no matter what life throws at us? In this illuminating exploration of Taurus season, we dive deep into the archetype of the Bull and discover how its fixed earth energy can transform our approach to life's challenges.Taurus invites us to plant our heels exactly where we are and nourish the seeds of what truly matters. Unlike the fiery impulse of Aries that precedes it, Taurus takes the long view—asking what will sustain us not just today, but for seasons to come. We explore how this earthy energy connects us with nature's wisdom, teaching us to feel supported by the ground beneath our feet and to marvel at the wonder that surrounds us daily.Key talking points include: • Taurus energy connects us to earth wisdom, encouraging a romance with nature and reminding us of our physical connection to the world• Unlike fiery Aries that says "strike while the iron is hot," Taurus asks us to take the long view and consider what will sustain us• As a fixed sign, Taurus teaches persistence, loyalty and commitment—qualities that help us stay true to our authentic path• Focus on what you want to grow rather than what's lacking or what you're eliminating from your life• Consider what values are worth being "stubborn" about—like insisting on joy, creativity, or staying true to your purpose• Reconnect with nature to tap into Taurus energy—whether through direct contact or finding creative ways to bring natural elements into your environment• Ask yourself: What systems am I creating that will support me? What am I loyal to? What seeds am I planting that align with my deepest values?Whether you're familiar with astrological archetypes or simply seeking ways to feel more grounded in turbulent times, this episode offers wisdom about rooting into what nourishes your authentic self. Connect with your heart wisdom and discover how embracing Taurus energy might help you build a life that sustains you for the journey ahead.Join us next week for an all-new episode of Your Heart Magic and more psychology, spirituality, storytelling, and heart wisdom.--Your Heart Magic is a space where heart wisdom, spirituality, and psychology meet. This is The Digital Story Podcast #996, April 22, 2025. Today's theme is, "Night and Twilight Photography." I'm Derrick Story. Opening Monologue Daylight is great. The bulk of my photography happens when the sun is shining. That's also true for everyone else, however. So when I want to create something that's unique, and eye-catching, I wait for the sun to dip below the horizon. That's when the drama begins. I share some of my favorite tips for night and twilight photography on this week's TDS Photography Podcast. I hope you enjoy the show. Glow, then choose Orton Effect in the submenu. Be sure to turn on Advance Settings to control softness, brightness, and warmth of the effect. Aside from being a terrific standalone app, Luminar is a powerful editing extension for Photos as well. The Orton Effect does a great job of counteracting digital over sharpening giving your night shots that magical look. Twilight Photography My favorite post-sunset shots are often while there's still color in the sky. I like the oranges and blues. And a great technique this time of evening is to work with silhouettes. For example, if you're in a popular place where folks are photographing the sunsets, such as Hawaii, step back from the crowd and get the people, trees, and other objects silhouetted against the colorful sky. It's often a far more interesting picture. Combining Live Photo and Night Mode This is a great technique if you have water in the scene. I combine Night Mode with Live View Long Exposure. Make sure Live View is turned on in the Camera App for the iPhone, then in Photos, choose Long Exposure from the Live menu. The effect can be quite impressive, especially considering that this is a handheld long exposure at night. Then apply the color correcting techniques I discussed earlier, plus a little Orton Effect, and you'll have a real winner. Live Composite on Olympus Cameras Live Composite is a high-tech version of Bulb mode, where the shutter stays open for an extended period of time, but you can watch the picture unfold before your eyes on the camera's LCD screen. This is particularly nice when you have moving lights in the scene. Begin by setting the camera to Bulb Mode. Then you can navigate to Live Composite. On the OM-3 you use the rear dial. Make sure the camera is steady, set your parameters, and watch the magic appear. Final Thoughts As much as I like the people and daytime landscape shots from Maui, I'm also loving the magic the twilight and night shots bring to the library. Have you ever found yourself caught in the web of overthinking, unsure whether to take action or wait for clarity? The dance between trusting your intuition and knowing when to move forward is perhaps one of life's most nuanced spiritual skills.Drawing wisdom from the Akashic Records and her book "Small Pearls, Big Wisdom," Dr. BethAnne Kapansky-Wright illuminates the delicate balance between yin and yang energies. When we feel stuck in mental gymnastics or find ourselves spinning in circles without resolution, it's often a sign we need to shift from forcing to allowing. Through practical self-reflection questions and nature-inspired wisdom, this episode offers gentle guidance for recognizing when you're expending energy unnecessarily and how to gather your energy inward instead. The comforting message? If you miss an opportunity the first time, it will come back around—perhaps in an even better form when you're more prepared to receive it.Key talking points include:• The Akashic Records message about "changing patterns" and how zigzagging like birds in flight can actually be perfectly aligned movement• Finding equilibrium between yin and yang energies – knowing when to push and when to allow• How to recognize when you're expending energy without results and need to shift your approach• Self-reflection questions to help determine if you should move or wait• Learning from nature's wisdom about trusting cycles and resilienceThis soulful exploration reminds us that we're never alone in our journey. We have countless resources beyond ourselves—spiritual guides, nature's wisdom, and the rhythms of life itself—supporting us when we open to receive. As we learn to trust the innate intelligence within, we discover that "the river always finds its way."Join us next week as we explore the archetype of Taurus and how Taurus energy can inspire and ground us as we enter Taurus season.--Your Heart Magic is a space where heart wisdom, spirituality, and psychology meet. Transformation is calling—are you listening? Dr. BethAnne Kapansky-Wright guides us through the sacred art of metamorphosis, revealing why change isn't just inevitable but necessary for our souls' evolution. Why do we resist changing shapes when our hearts desperately want to expand? Dr. BethAnne uncovers the sneaky ways resistance manifests—not just in our obvious desires to maintain the status quo, but in the harsh self-judgment we inflict when we don't "adapt properly" to life's transitions. This internal criticism creates invisible barriers to the very transformations trying to unfold within us.Drawing wisdom from her book "Small Pearl's Big Wisdom," she reminds us that "a person could live in a square hole their entire life and never realize they were meant to be round." Our questions aren't failures—they're invitations. Our discontent isn't wrong—it's an opportunity to discover who we're becoming. As the Akashic Records described 2025 as "the year of remapping peace," we're collectively learning to rewire neural pathways and find equilibrium amid constant change.Key talking points include: • Understanding that our resistance to change often manifests as harsh self-judgment or criticism• Viewing our questions and discontent as invitations for growth rather than problems to solve• Learning to "change shapes" rather than forcing ourselves to stay in old patterns• Approaching transformation with curiosity and compassion instead of fear• Using visualization to invite grace – that "golden energy" that softens difficult transitions• Finding anchors in our core values while trusting the unknown aspects of our journey• Remembering that our future self is already reaching back to us with compassionWith gentle wisdom and poetic insights, Dr. Bethann invites you to keep your heart open to change rather than closing down in fear. The stardust running through your veins contains all the wisdom you need—you just need to trust the process and allow yourself to become the new shape your soul is calling you toward.Join us next week for an all-new episode of Your Heart Magic and more psychology, spirituality, storytelling, and heart wisdom.--Your Heart Magic is a space where heart wisdom, spirituality, and psychology meet. Words have always been my most reliable source of magic. In celebration of National Poetry Month, I'm diving into the transformative power of writing as both a creative practice and spiritual discipline that helps us navigate life's complexities. The journey begins with exploring how poetry becomes an accessible gateway for authentic self-expression. When we struggle to tell our complete stories or make sense of complex emotions, poetry offers a container for those fragments – capturing moments of insight, mystical connections with nature, or emotional truths in just a few carefully chosen lines. Through writing, we transform raw experiences into something meaningful, creating an alchemy that turns ordinary moments into extraordinary revelations.Key talking points include: • Writing as alchemy - transforming experiences into wisdom and feelings into language • Poetry as an accessible first form that captures fragments of feelings before the full narrative emerges • Using writing to observe rather than react to life experiences • Creating "word magic" by finding beauty in ordinary moments through descriptive language • Writing about the world we wish to see as an antidote to hopelessness • Holding space for positivity even during challenging times • Respecting the natural cycles of creativity - expansion and contraction • Trusting that creative inspiration will return during quiet periods This April, take a moment to reconnect with the writer within you. Whether through poetry, journaling, or simple intentions, allow your words to create magic in your life and in the world around you.Join us next week for an all-new episode of Your Heart Magic and more psychology, spirituality, storytelling, and heart wisdom. -- Your Heart Magic is a space where heart wisdom, spirituality, and psychology meet.
