Drew Allar is going under a total reboot courtesy of Mike McCarthy. Is that a bad sign for the rookie QB? What does it say about the teachings at Penn State? If Aaron Rodgers is their guy this year, when will we really know if this work has paid off for Allar? The guys don't want that to impact their plans in the 2027 NFL Draft. KDKA TV's Bob Pompeani joined the show. We reacted as the Pirates defeated the Rockies, 7-2, to take the series at PNC Park. Bob credited Endy Rodriguez for his work in the first game of the season, getting 2 hits in his 2026 debut. Bob said he's not a fan of the ‘opener' method, but it worked out for Don Kelly and his club today. What do we think the future looks like for Jared Jones that is working through his rehab assignment? Attendance of over 19k today in the afternoon finale at PNC Park just days after barely 13k watched Paul Skenes dazzle. Pomp said fans have good reason to not be there in droves just yet after so much losing baseball in the last 3 decades. The guys peppered Bob on a few questions about the NFL schedule. Bucco Minute – Calls after the Pirates 7-2 victory over the Rockies.

Bucco Minute – The Pirates are the biggest favorite they have been since 2005. You have to bet $335 to win $100 on them to beat the Rockies tonight. The last time they were a favorite this big was Pirates vs Rockies in 2005. Zach Duke pitched against Jeff Francis. Donny successfully named the entire starting lineup for the Pirates in this game.
Mike McCarthy has had nothing but praise for Drew Allar thus far. Poni says that he is starting to come around on McCarthy, although he is not all the way there yet. Mike Defabo said that Mike McCarthy gave more feedback to Drew Allar than Mike Tomlin ever did to Ben Roethlisberger in his career. Poni thinks that this is because Tomlin just did not know how to develop quarterbacks. Mullsy originally gave the McCarthy hire an F-, but he has since updated that grade to a C. Do the Steelers or Ravens have a better roster at this point in time? Callers chime in on the Steelers. What are the masses thoughts on Mike McCarthy and Drew Allar? The Pirates dropped the series finale in San Francisco in 12 innings and went 3-3 on the road trip out west. The Pirates outfield defense has been absolutely atrocious this year. Poni says that he feels good about Soto and Santana in the bullpen, but that's it. Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Matt says that he would not give up either one of Barco or Johnson for Brooks Raley, who the Pirates are reportedly looking to acquire. Matt does not like the potential idea of a 6-man rotation upon the return of Jared Jones. Bucco Auction House – Nick Gonzales batting average, Konnor Griffin homers, Gregory Soto saves.

If the Steelers felt so strongly about Aaron Rodgers coming back, then why are they placing this tender on him? Sure, it's an insurance policy, but that tells us they aren't as sure as we once thought. What happens to the other QBs on the roster? Apparently, there is a team that has interest in Mason Rudolph. That team is the Buccaneers, allegedly. Does Will Howard have more value than Rudolph due to the unknown? Audibles & Analytics and Yinz Know Ball podcast host Jon Ledyard joined the show. Jon gave the Steelers draft a ‘thumbs down' overall, but he is a big fan of Max Iheanachor and thinks the 21st pick could save the whole class. Jon doesn't rule out Max playing left tackle even though he was a full-time right tackle at the college level. Jon still thinks it makes the most sense to move Troy Fautanu to LT, since he spent plenty of time there in college. Jon was not a fan of the Drew Allar selection because aside from his failures in big games, there is plenty on film that you should be worried about translating to the NFL level. He thinks it will be very challenging for Mike McCarthy to develop Allar into a good NFL QB. Jon reacted to the Steelers selecting a punt/kick return man in the 4th round, who he said would not be drafted if he went into the process as a WR. Is Kaden Wetjen good enough in the return game to make the pick worth it? Jon thinks Eli Heidenreich has a better chance to make an impact than most of the players picked ahead of him by the Steelers. Jon added that Heidenreich was one of the Steelers' best picks. Bucco Minute – Pirates pitchers were perfect into the 7th inning last night, but they managed to lose that and the game, 4-2. How much blame does Don Kelly deserve? Dennis Santana was rocked in the 9th after carrying a 0.69 ERA into the game.

McCarthy's Mouthfuls – What did Mike McCarthy say to the media earlier today? Audibles & Analytics and Yinz Know Ball podcast host Jon Ledyard joined the show. Jon said the best-case scenario for the Steelers at 21 would be Vega Ioane to help finish up the offensive line. Jon thinks there is ‘minimal difference' between pick 10 and pick 30, in terms of prospect rank. He loves the middle portion of this draft, so it's nice that the Steelers have a lot of picks to use. Jon said Spencer Fano is a player he is starting to zone in on as a Steelers option on Thursday night. Is there a chance we see a run on tackles in the 1st round that could muddy the Steelers' waters? Jon doesn't love Denzel Boston as a separator, but that doesn't mean he can't be a good NFL WR. The guys asked Jon about the second day receivers that could develop into WR1 on a given team. Jon told people to have the name Jacob Rodriguez on their mind at 21 if the Steelers don't like what they have in their LB room. Bucco Minute – The Pirates will see Andrew McCutchen tonight as the Buccos take on the Rangers. After the slow start for Marcell Ozuna, some fans made it known they were upset about seeing Cutch go. How's that aging in the last week or so? Are some fans going to want the Pirates to win, but Cutch to have a big game?

Steve Palazzolo from the 33rd Team joined the show. The in-person visits have wrapped up for the Steelers as we sit one week away from the NFL Draft. Steve does not see Drew Allar as a future franchise QB even though this time last year it looked like he would. Steve doesn't care for player comps during draft season. Steve likes Carson Beck over a group that includes Allar, Garrett Nussmeier and Cole Payton. He said Nussmeier is a QB that can be effective in a dome or nice weather, but probably not in the AFC North. Steve acknowledged the massive risk to Taylen Green, but he might be worth the swing if you trust your offensive coaches. Steve said Vega Ioane is one of the safest picks in the draft and will plug & play Week 1. How does Steve see Denzel Boston, who could be on the Steelers 1st round board? Steve doesn't think it's smart to sellout your draft to select Carnell Tate – he added that nobody in this draft is worth that. It's a final at PNC Park – the Nats have beaten the Pirates 8-7 in 10 innings. A lot to chew on after Oneil Cruz could have provided the game-winning run in the 9th, Konnor Griffin made his biggest defensive gaffe in a multi-hit performance, and more. The guys aren't happy after this one. More Bucco reaction following an 8-7 (F/10) loss at PNC Park. Should guys bunt more? Is the bullpen overrated?

Pirates 2, Cubs 0 in the first of three at Wrigley Field this weekend. The Pirates got clutch pitching and a clean 9th inning from Dennis Santana. We tipped our cap to Carmen Mlodzinski, who pitched into the 6th inning after struggling in previous outings when he sees a lineup multiple times. Big credit went to the bullpen for closing the door. A deeper look into the numbers following the Pirates win at Wrigley to open the series against the Cubs. Another ugly day for Marcell Ozuna – how do his numbers early on stack up to guys like Tommy Pham and Rowdy Tellez at this point in the season? More Bucco Reaction following the win in Chicago.
Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. The tabloid story of the day was surrounding Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini from The Athletic. Mike couldn't too much about the situation himself, but said as much as he could. 15 days away from the NFL Draft and the Steelers have no indication on what is happening with Aaron Rodgers, which feels a whole lot like last year. How much attention does Rodgers want before he makes his decision? Mike isn't sure if he will be in town for the draft, which he hasn't attended in about a decade because his duties that night are easier to perform from home. It's a final at PNC Park as the Padres take the series over the Pirates in an 8-2 game. Mitch Keller looked good again – his third consecutive quality start to open the season, allowing 0 runs in 6 innings on 75 pitches. The bullpen was a disaster. Is the idea that Don Kelly wants to save Keller for later in the season? Poni doesn't think Keller is the guy that needs to be coming out of games early if he's rolling. Mitch Keller was pulled after 75 pitches while rolling through 6 innings of work. He was shutting out San Diego when he was taken out before the bullpen, starting with Justin Lawrence, came in to get beat up. There was also a discussion over Konnor Griffin sitting on the same day he signed his record-breaking deal with the Pirates. We got an explanation as to why Keller was taken out at 75 pitches.

BREAKING: Konnor Griffin and the Pirates have reportedly agreed to a 9-year deal worth $140M. What a day for the Pirates, their fans, and Griffin. Is this the dawn of a new era of Pirates baseball? Pirates fans sound off on Konnor Griffin signing his extension with the team. Bucco Minute – More reaction to the Pirates calling up and extending Konnor Griffin.
