What is the biggest reason we don't want the Pirates to trade Mitch Keller? Is it because we like the player so much or because we don't trust the guy making the moves? It feels more like the latter for us, but the former for fans. Chris pondered how much more valuable Keller is than a guy like David Bednar? The return could Mitch Keller could be historic, but not for the reason you may be thinking. Will the Pirates be making another move with the Blue Jays because their front office has a relationship with Ben Cherington? Pirates insider Noah Hiles from the PG joined the show. Noah is starting to believe Mitch Keller will be here after the trade deadline on Thursday. He thinks they would have to be ‘blown away' by an offer in the next 48 hours. Noah said the Pirates could look more to the offseason as a time Keller is moved when another team is willing to part with multiple Top 100 prospects. The guys asked Noah about the report out there that the Cubs would be willing to part with their top prospect in order to get Keller. Noah said the asking price for David Bednar is a team's Top 5 prospect, but it obviously depends on what team that comes from. Why did Bednar have the emotion showing Saturday night after a save at PNC Park? Is there a chance of a random trade, like the Quinn Priester one from last year? Noah could see a trade between the Pirates and Orioles even though both teams are sellers. Noah told the guys that there were trades for Bednar that got blocked by the front office a couple of years back.
Isaiah Likely was carted off the field at practice today, John Harbaugh called it a multi-week injury. Greg Newsome was also carted off the field, and his injury is assumed to be bad. The guys disagree with the Ravens being the Super Bowl favorites, according to Fanduel. They think that the Ravens will run into a wall against Kansas City or Buffalo. Pirates Broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg says that he still thinks that Ben Cherington will make a big trade before the deadline. Brown says it's possible that David Bednar has pitched his last game as a Pirate, but it's also possible that he will remain a Pirate. He also says that Bednar took PNC Park all in after his 100th save. Brownie says that he's confident that Cruz and Skenes will remain Pirates at the deadline. He also says the Pirates should take advantage of desperate teams at the deadline, and that the Pirates need a left fielder.

Poni and Mullsy name JA Happ, Zane Smith as potential answers. Mullsy says that JA Happ should have pitched the Wild Card game against Jake Arrieta. Tony Watson for Oneil Cruz was a great trade, but not good enough to be the best ever. A commenter says that Austin Hedges for bonus pool money should be in contention. Poni says that the Red Sox do not like Mitch Keller. Donny Football Debrief – Poni skipped a field trip to a Yankees game in Little League, and missed a perfect game. Is Ben Roethlisberger a better quarterback all time than Brett Favre? The guys do not think so. Donny thinks Ben is around 12th best all time, while Favre is around the 8th. Poni mentions that Brees gets dinged for playing in a dome, but Favre doesn't get any credit for playing in bad weather. Mullsy says that Favre's last season was statistically better than any season Ben had. Poni says that he is going to bet on the Hall of Fame Game.
The Pirates honored Dave Parker with throwback jerseys, custom patches, and a special night at PNC Park... then delivered an absolute dud on the field. In this NS9 Postgame Show, DiNardo and Jim react to the lifeless 1-0 extra-inning loss to Arizona — a game where the Pirates managed just one hit and blew a golden opportunity to walk it off in the 10th. The crew breaks down: The chaotic 11th inning collapse Ashcraft's solid relief effort How both teams went a combined 0-for-18 with RISP And just how dumb this game was from start to finish. Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the Steelers' first practice day of training camp in Latrobe. He gives thoughts on the news of the day, as new faces including Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith took to the Saint Vincent College practice field for the first time and as returning stars like T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward and Jaylen Warren look to build toward the franchise's first NFL playoff win since 2017. He also weighs in on former Steelers quarterback Justin Fields' injury scare in his first practice with the New York Jets, plus the Pirates' sweep of the Detroit Tigers at PNC Park.
Is Andrew McCutchen a Hall of Famer? Jason spent the day with Chuck in Uniontown at PNC Park on Wednesday. Chuck met Paul Skenes, Bob Nutting, and others. He was blown away meeting Skenes. This is the most anticipated Steelers training camp in nearly two decades. The results will fall on Mike Tomlin, but it seems like Tomlin has tried to shift and adapt to add big name pieces.

He was blown away meeting Skenes. This is the most anticipated Steelers training camp in nearly two decades. Colin Cowherd ranked the Patriots and Titans offense ahead of the Steelers.
An embarrassing weekend at PNC Park with the Pirates being swept by the White Sox by a combined score of 27-7. The White Sox went into the series as the second-worst team in baseball by record. The Pirates didn't look like they belonged on the same field. After the 6-game win streak, the Pirates have won just 1 of their last 10 games. And what happened to this team playing harder for Don Kelly? The Paul Skenes draft pick now looks like a curse because of how much they have fumbled the situation. How does this team compare to the 2010 Pirates team that lost 105 games?

Callers sounded off on the weekend that was at the ballpark. Pirates pre-post game host Dan Zangrilli joined the show. Dan got to handle the radio play-by-play duties this weekend in-place of Joe Block, even though it lacked excitement overall. Dan said he will hop into the booth for another series later this season. Dan recapped the horrible weekend at the ballpark. Has this season been as bad as some ugly seasons of the past? The guys looked at that 2010 time versus now.
The Pirates hit a new low. After a brutal 10–4 loss to the White Sox, Tyler and DiNardo break down everything that went wrong in another embarrassing night at PNC Park. From another quiet night for the offense to shaky defense and questionable bullpen usage, we dissect it all. Is this team broken? Can Don Kelly do anything to right the ship? We debate the franchise's direction, the looming trade deadline, and how much longer Pirates fans should be expected to put up with this. President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick promised more than $90 billion in private sector investments for PA to become a hub for energy and AI at a CMU summit this week. We talk about potential projects like data centers, power plant upgrades, and natural gas pipelines — and how much of that cash is likely to affect us in Western Pennsylvania. Outside the summit, CMU students and environmental activists protested the visit, and at least a few were met with pepper spray and campus censorship. Meanwhile, someone recently went rogue on Rialto Street in Troy Hill, and the city had to cover up their mark. Plus, we share a few wins of the week, like Emmy nominations for “The Pitt” and an overhaul of our city streetlights — and losses, like the Kraft-Heinz breakup and PNC Park's big spending to make up for the Bucco Bricks disaster. Oh, the Pirates. Less than a week after shutting out the Cardinals in all 3 games of a sweep at PNC Park, they were shut out in all 3 games against the Mariners in Seattle. What is this team? Is there a simple answer? Paul Skenes is their only All Star. By the way, that is the first time the Pirates have been shut out in an entire series since the late 1800's when they weren't even called the Pirates. Listeners give a word or two to describe the Pirates' season. Pirates pre-post game host Dan Zangrilli joined the show. Dan has no idea if the Pirates are closer or further away to where they want to be. He said the crux of the frustration is how good their starting pitching is. Dan believes outside of Paul Skenes, the pitching is ‘pretty darn good.' How much credit do we give Ben Cherington for the staff? The guys asked Dan about a report of some players going ‘rogue' in some of their hitting work. How much of the team's budget was put into the analytics department?

The Cincinnati Reds' recent series loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates in May 2025 at PNC Park highlighted both their persistent offensive struggles and the resilience of their pitching staff, casting a shadow over their postseason aspirations. Entering the three-game set with a four-game winning streak and a .500 record, the Reds hoped to capitalize on the Pirates' last-place standing in the NL Central. However, despite stellar pitching, the Reds dropped two of three games, falling to 25-26 and exposing critical weaknesses that could define their season. In the series opener on May 19, the Reds secured a convincing 7-1 victory, driven by a late offensive surge with five runs in the final two innings. Austin Hays' three-hit performance and Nick Lodolo's six strong innings set an optimistic tone. However, the momentum fizzled in the next two games. On May 20, Pittsburgh's Bailey Falter outdueled Nick Martinez, who allowed just one run over six innings, but the Reds' offense was silenced in a 1-0 shutout. Bryan Reynolds' RBI single in the sixth proved decisive, as Cincinnati managed only four hits. The series finale on May 21 saw another pitching gem wasted, with Brady Singer allowing two runs over five innings, but the Reds' bats mustered just one run in a 3-1 loss to Andrew Heaney and the Pirates' bullpen. The Reds' offense was abysmal, scoring one run across the final 18 innings, with nine hits and a 1-for-10 mark with runners in scoring position. Manager Terry Francona, in his first year with Cincinnati, called it “just baseball,” but fans on X expressed frustration, labeling the team “mentally weak” for collapsing against a weaker opponent. Despite limiting Pittsburgh to five runs over the series, the Reds' inability to produce timely hits underscored a season-long issue, with injuries to Jake Fraley and others not helping. On a positive note, the Reds' starting pitchers posted a 1.70 ERA over their last seven games, and Hunter Greene's imminent return from a groin injury offers hope. However, with a crucial stretch of division games ahead, including six against the first-place Chicago Cubs, the Reds must address their offensive woes to stay in the wild-card race. This series loss, while not catastrophic, serves as a stark reminder of the fine margins in a competitive season.

Post-Gazette insiders Noah Hiles and Colin Beazley recap the Pirates' series victory over the Reds at PNC Park. Before their recap begins, the duo discusses the injury news pertaining to right-hander Jared Jones, who will miss the next 10-12 months after getting surgery to repair a UCL injury in his right elbow. The discussion then pivots to the Pirates pitching staff, which, with names like Mitch Keller, Paul Skenes, Bailey Falter and Andrew Heaney, has been nothing short of dominant under new manager Don Kelly. But for as good as the pitching has been, the bats have struggled, tying an MLB record for 26 straight games with four or less runs scored. The video is concluded with a quick look at the team's upcoming series against the Brewers, which includes a first big-league start from right-hander Mike Burrows on Thursday evening.
Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise reacts to the day in Pittsburgh sports news live around 5 p.m. Eastern. He weighs in on a report from MMQB's Albert Breer that the Steelers inquired about trading for New Orleans Saints receiver Chris Olave earlier in the offseason. Were they right to make their move for DK Metcalf instead? Should general manager Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin mount another attempt to acquire Olave as a No. 2 after sending George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys? And how much confidence should we have in the current receivers room that includes names like Robert Woods, Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson? Paul weighs in on those question, the NFL's decision not the ban the "tush push" popularized by the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles; and the conclusion of the Pirates' three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds at PNC Park.
On May 20, 2025, the Cincinnati Reds fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates in a tightly contested 1-0 game at PNC Park, snapping their five-game winning streak. The loss, detailed across sources like ESPN and Redleg Nation, highlighted the Reds' struggle to capitalize on opportunities against a Pirates team desperate to end a four-game skid. Despite a strong pitching performance from Cincinnati's Nick Martinez, Pittsburgh's Bailey Falter stole the show, delivering seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts, allowing only four hits. The Pirates' lone run came in the second inning, sparked by Oneil Cruz's speed and a clutch hit, enough to secure the victory in a game that lasted just 2 hours and 22 minutes. The Reds, sitting at 25-24 and third in the NL Central, had been riding high after sweeping the Cleveland Guardians and defeating the Pirates 7-1 the previous night. However, their offense, ranked 12th in on-base percentage (.321) and 13th in slugging (.397), went silent. Key players like Elly De La Cruz and TJ Friedl, who hit a triple, couldn't convert opportunities, with the team leaving runners stranded. Fans on platforms like Redleg Nation expressed frustration, noting the Reds' inability to overcome Falter's command and Pittsburgh's opportunistic play. Comments like “Can't be a good team and get shut out 25 times” reflected the disappointment in a game where Cincinnati's bats failed to ignite. Martinez, despite the loss, was solid, continuing his recent form with a 2.05 ERA over his last five starts. He kept the Pirates' offense, the league's worst in runs scored (142) and slugging (.320), in check, but the early run proved decisive. Pittsburgh, at 15-33, capitalized on their home field, with Cruz's two steals and two walks setting the tone. The game underscored the Reds' inconsistency against weaker teams, as they had dominated Pittsburgh in four prior 2025 matchups, outscoring them 21-6. This loss, witnessed by 10,071 fans, exposed Cincinnati's vulnerability in low-scoring affairs, despite their 19-5 record when scoring first. As the Reds prepared for the series finale, the focus shifted to rebounding offensively and leveraging their pitching depth, with Hunter Greene's return looming. For a team aiming to climb the NL Central, overcoming such setbacks against struggling opponents like the Pirates is critical to sustaining momentum.
Post-Gazette Pirates insider Noah Hiles previews the team's upcoming series with the Cincinnati Reds at PNC Park. Can Mitch Keller, Andrew Heaney and Bailey Falter keep the struggling offense in the game against this relatively average NL Central rival? Will Oneil Cruz, Andrew McCutchen and the offense get an opportunity to turn things around against this pitching staff, including starters like Nick Lodolo, Nick Martinez and Brady Singer? And why is Austin Hayes the bat Pirates pitching will most need to look out for? Noah tackles those questions and more.
The final destination on Pearl Jam's spring 2025 tour will be Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a city that's no stranger to big time shows. Although they haven't been back there in 12 years, there was a time where the Steel City saw it's fair share of shows. From 1998-2006, there were five shows played, every one of them memorable in their own way. This episode covers their 2006 show from the Mellon Arena that kicked off the second leg of the North American tour that year with the band and the crowd so hot that the nearly melted the igloo. Sometimes you'll notice that certain Pearl Jam cities are known for having a song that's connected with them. For example, people usually connect Wash with Pittsburgh due to the umbrella moment in 2000. But at this show, another song developed a connection as they covered the Rolling Stones Waiting On A Friend for the first of a small handful of times. It was done to pay tribute to the Stones after opening for them at PNC Park the year prior, and it's a moment that the Yinzer crowd is proud of. Other great moments that we'll talk about include a monstrous Release to kick things off, an incredible version of Black with an It's OK tag, Stone's smokin' solo on RITFW and a plethora of Avocado songs that were kicked in high gear during this era. We'll also discuss how songs like Inside Job and Smile have continued to grow and become fan favorites throughout the years. We run down the entire setlist, but you'll want to stay tuned to stories from Javi's Nashville trip where he met not one, but two members of the band. You won't want to miss it!
