Donny Football Debrief – WVU beat Pitt in Morgantown to close out this edition of the Backyard Brawl. Pat Narduzzi is lucky that the Steelers lost, so that nobody talks about the brawl. The guys expected Pitt to win, but thought it would be close.
Mike Tomlin said that the Steelers defense is capable of “much better than that”. The Steelers let Brian Flores walk, which seems to be a mistake. Sam Darnold is historically very bad under pressure, and the Steelers refused to send any. Nick Herbig actually played one more snap than TJ Watt did. Patrick Queen didn't really answer questions postgame. The Steelers will likely play Carson Wentz in Ireland, as opposed to JJ McCarthy, due to McCarthy's injury. Callers weighed in on the Steelers loss to the Seahawks. PIT-SEA Plays of the Game.

The guys got into the coaching of Danny Smith and if he deserves some blame for why the guy is out there to begin with. We joked about the Steelers goofy history of kick returners in the Mike Tomlin era. The guys wondered how much we will see this guy touch the ball going forward after yesterday.

Potential Mullsy relative Jenn Mueller, sideline reporter for the Seahawks, joins to talk about the game. What are the thoughts of DK Metcalf's first game against the Seahawks? She says there is no bad blood on the Seattle side towards DK. She says that there will probably be some chippiness, but nothing more than that.
Mark Kaboly joins the show for the 4pm hour to review the Steelers win against the Jets, preview the game against the Seahawks, and answer if the Steelers are interested in Tyreek Hill.
9-12 PM Team 3pm Hour: DK Metcalf against his old team, Bryant McFadden, and The Donny Football Debrief
Pitt and WVU have extended The Backyard Brawl a few years. It will take a break after this weekends matchup but stay for longer when it comes back.
Bryant McFadden joins the show. He has faith that Broderick Jones will get it together and have a better game this Sunday. He thinks that PFF is dead wrong and Rodgers looked great. The eye test was passed with flying colors for Rodgers. What will the Steelers do at corner with Joey Porter Jr. seemingly not playing?
DK Metcalf will be playing against his old team. There does not seem to be any drama there unlike Rodgers coming back and facing the Jets. He says that this is just another game for him.
9-12 PM Team 2pm Hour: Aaron Rodgers home debut, calls, and Fair Game with Nick Farabaugh
Fair Game with Farabaugh: what is fair to say will happen against the Seahawks and what is not fair? Will Broderick Jones play better this weekend?
Aaron Rodgers will play in Pittsburgh for the first time as a Steeler. Chris says that he is excited to see Rodgers for the first time at Acrisure. He also predicts that Rodgers will get the biggest reaction if they do individual introductions. Even though they had a great performance offensively against the Jets, it is not a sure thing that it will happen against the Seahawks this weekend. Poni points out that Rodgers has never won a game at Acrisure Stadium. That will obviously change this season. Poni is not as excited as Mullsy.
Arthur's Answers – What did Arthur Smith say to the Steelers media earlier today? Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray isn't sure we see a lot of Jabrill Peppers on Sunday since he will only be with the team for a few days. Ray said there is not a ton of panic inside the building about Broderick Jones through the first game of 2025, but Ray has his own concerns. Ray had his own way of demonstrating how bad the Steelers defense has been against the run over the last few years. The guys asked Ray about the offensive breakdown and how much we see of the 3 tight ends on Sunday. How much faith do the Steelers have in Roman Wilson? Ray thinks the Steelers would let Chris Boswell try a 63-yard FG if the game was on the line. Ray likes the Steelers on Sunday and said DK Metcalf will have a revenge game. Judge Donny.
Cam Heyward said the run defense doesn't fall all on him or the defensive line. The historic 2008 Steelers defense never gave up more than 122 yards rushing in a game – and that came in a blowout. What will this defense look like with Jabrill Peppers added to the mix? Heyward also talked about his new deal and the incentives trying to make it sound like all of the hoopla was worth it. Steve Palazzolo from the 33rd Team joined the show. Steve defended his former employer, Pro Football Focus, on the harsh grading of Aaron Rodgers from Week 1. He explained why nice, schemed-up plays actually hurt the QB in their system. Steve discussed the verbiage that is used in PFF when it comes to grading QBs. Steve shared his thoughts on the Steelers offense on Sunday, a 34-point outburst. He said everything went Rodgers' way in the win over the Jets. Steve said people in Pittsburgh should be excited about the offense. Steve questioned the Jets' back end on defense, but credited their front. Donny Football Debrief – Some wild quotes coming out of an AFC North matchup on Sunday.
Teryl Austin said the Steelers defense just didn't play well enough on Sunday against the Jets, the 34-32 win. The issue is that he acted as if that game was a one-off and not a regular occurrence, which is what it is turning into. They have given up roughly 27 points per game in their last 9 games – a number that would rank 30th in the league based on last year's numbers. The Steelers had a strong defensive mind like Brian Flores in their building a few years ago, but they kept Austin over him. Why is it so hard to figure out how much power Mike Tomlin has over the defense? Austin also said Yahya Black will play more against the Seahawks than we saw against the Jets. KDKA TV's Bob Pompeani joined the show. Where does Bob come down on Tyreek Hill and the possibility he comes to Pittsburgh? Bob is worried about the off-the-field issues Hill seems to always find himself in. Bob was impressed by the offense in the Week 1 win, but has concerns over Roman Wilson and Darnell Washington in the offense. Pomp is a little worried about the pair of backs Seattle has in its offense. Bob thinks there is a better chance the Seahawks beat the Steelers than Pitt blowing it in the Backyard Brawl. Pomp has the Steelers winning 23-17 with Jaylen Warren having a big day. Power Rankings – Backyard Brawl moments.
How badly do the Steelers really want Tyreek Hill? The price tag is high, the trade return may not be too bad, but Hill has plenty of baggage. Is he worth all of that? The guys think it's pretty damming to Roman Wilson because the Steelers could be at the point where they don't think this guy has anything in his game. After the good day from Calvin Austin, should the Steelers be banging down the door for this to happen? We have a Monday Night Football doubleheader this week. Is a 10 pm start time on a weeknight a tough ask for fans? A few other WR rumors that are swirling. PG columnist Jason Mackey joined the show. Jason does not think the Penguins will be trading Sidney Crosby. Does he have any hold ups since Sid's agent made comments recently? Jason talked about the change in ownership that could be taking place down the road. Jason can't see a trade of that magnitude happening at the deadline, but reiterated that he doesn't ever see it happening.
Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray isn't sure we see a lot of Jabrill Peppers on Sunday since he will only be with the team for a few days.
