Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson wonder what factors may be stopping the Pirates from trading CP David Bednar.
Matt Clement joins the show to talk about what it's like playing around the trade deadline, if the Pirates should trade Mitch Keller and David Bednar, what teams want most at the deadline right now, reaction to
Ke'Bryan Hayes traded to the Reds for reliever Taylor Rogers and prospect Sammy Stafura. Stafura is a top ten prospect in the Reds organization. The guys like the trade. Mullsy is afraid that Hayes will go to Cincinnati and start hitting. Poni thinks that Ke'bryan hated Pittsburgh. Mullsy says that Ke'Bryan needs to take accountability for playing terribly in Pittsburgh.
Bucco Minute. Mullsy says that he is showing that he likes the Hayes trade, just in a weird manner. Every caller agrees that the Hayes trade was a success. One caller called the Hayes trade “absolutely amazing”. Poni makes the point that both Quinn Priester and Clay Holmes have been good since the Pirates traded them, and says that he doesn't want Ben Cherington making trades. Mullsy asks why Cherington is still employed. A caller says that the Hayes trade was just a salary dump. Mullsy says that Ke'Bryan would be a massive bargain if he could hit at all.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Pick Prediction by Tony T. Pirates at Giants 3:45PM ET—Mike Burrows will start for Pittsburgh. Burrows appeared in twelve games carrying an ERA of 4.15 with WHIP of 1.33. The right hander fans 23.7% with 8.9% walks. Ground balls are 40.1% with 1.38 home runs per nine innings.
The Giants found a new low last night losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates, and this season is one again proving frustrating for Giants fans.
Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson react to some comments about the MLB trade deadline that Pirates' SP Paul Skenes made recently in a conversation with Audacy, Pittsburgh's Dan Zangrilli.
Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson wonder what ramifications would spawn from MLB implementing a salary cap.
What is the biggest reason we don't want the Pirates to trade Mitch Keller? Is it because we like the player so much or because we don't trust the guy making the moves? It feels more like the latter for us, but the former for fans. Chris pondered how much more valuable Keller is than a guy like David Bednar?
Bucco Auction House – Round 12. The guys forgot that Alexander Canario was still on the team. Donny gets Andrew McCutchen at 14+ homers. Poni gets 5+ Pirates trades before the deadline. Poni gets 1+ Bubba Chandler starts for the Pirates this year.
Isaiah Likely was carted off the field at practice today, John Harbaugh called it a multi-week injury. Greg Newsome was also carted off the field, and his injury is assumed to be bad. The guys disagree with the Ravens being the Super Bowl favorites, according to Fanduel. They think that the Ravens will run into a wall against Kansas City or Buffalo. Pirates Broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg says that he still thinks that Ben Cherington will make a big trade before the deadline. Brown says it's possible that David Bednar has pitched his last game as a Pirate, but it's also possible that he will remain a Pirate. He also says that Bednar took PNC Park all in after his 100th save. Brownie says that he's confident that Cruz and Skenes will remain Pirates at the deadline. He also says the Pirates should take advantage of desperate teams at the deadline, and that the Pirates need a left fielder.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Pick Prediction by Tony T. Pirates at Giants 9:45PM ET—Bailey Falter will start for Pittsburgh. Falter in 21 starts carries an ERA of 3.82 with WHIP of 1.18. The left hander strikes out 15.8% with 8% walks. Ground balls sit at 35.9% with 1.33 home runs per nine innings.

Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson react to a poem written by former Pirates' OF Dave Parker, read by his son Dave Parker II at his MLB Hall-Of-Fame induction ceremony. Also, why do teams and leagues seem to wait until it's too late to honor some of the greatest athletes?
Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson wonder if the Pirates are going to let Mitch Keller pitch another game before the MLB trade deadline or not.
Paul Skenes made some comments after yesterday's win and Poni can't believe the words haven't gone viral. He, as kindly as possible, called out the front office for their lack of moves in the offseason. How close are the Pirates to being a contender? Why didn't they do more to make the team better?
Baseball writer John Perrotto from Pittsburgh Baseball Now joined the show. John has the feeling that the Pirates will trade David Bednar in the next few days. John doesn't think the Pirates should feel forced to trade Mitch Keller because they still have him under control for the next few years. Would anyone take on the contract of Ke'Bryan Hayes, who John tells us seems unhappy here? Poni got John's reaction to the quotes from Paul Skenes the other day, taking some subtle shots at the front office. There was an altercation in Philly today between Bryce Harper and Rob Manfred – what does that mean for the future of baseball and a potential work stoppage?
Pirates pre-post game host Dan Zangrilli joined the show. Dan talked to both Ben Cherington and Paul Skenes yesterday. Dan said his takeaway from the GMBC conversation is what the approach could be like going into the deadline. Dan is getting the indication that if the Pirates do move on from Mitch Keller, they may not get big league caliber talent in return. Dan explained that David Bednar could be difficult for the Pirates to trade due to his local ties. Dan thinks either Bednar or Dennis Santana will be elsewhere by the time the trade deadline rolls around. He also mentioned a few sentimental things Bednar did the other night, in the event he is traded.
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Pick Prediction by Tony T. Pirates at Giants 9:45PM ET—Mitch Keller will start for Pittsburgh. Keller has 21 starts carries an ERA of 3.53 with WHIP of 1.16. The right hander fans 18.7% with 5.8% walks. Ground balls are 44.5% with 0.72 home runs per nine innings. Carson Whisenhunt makes the start for San Francisco.

Send us a textBrian O'Neill's journey from surviving a near-death experience to becoming one of Pittsburgh's most beloved columnists reads like a chapter from a novel – except every word is true. At 23, O'Neill was sucked through a storm drain pipe during a flash flood in Danville, Virginia, an experience he recounts with both terror and humor. "I honestly thought God was going to kill me in a sewer in Danville, Virginia," he shares. This brush with death unexpectedly launched his journalism career when his published account caught the attention of editors at larger papers, eventually leading him to the Pittsburgh Press in 1988.For 32 years, O'Neill chronicled Pittsburgh through his distinctive columns, developing a deep appreciation for what he calls "The Paris of Appalachia." His perspective on the city's unique position – straddling the Northeast, Midwest, and South – offers profound insight into Pittsburghers' character: "They have the work ethic of Midwesterners, can get in your face like Northeasterners, but they're also friendly like Southerners."Baseball emerges as O'Neill's lifelong passion throughout the conversation. From witnessing Willie Mays' first home run as a Met to analyzing the Pirates through his "Stats Geek" column, O'Neill represents the quintessential thoughtful fan. His memories of the electric 2013 Wild Card game and appreciation for underrated Pirates like Brian Giles and Jack Wilson speak to someone who understands baseball's soul – its unpredictability and personal stories beneath the statistics. What truly shines through is O'Neill's storytelling gift and authentic love for Pittsburgh. Whether recounting his humorous feud with former County Coroner Cyril Wecht or explaining how he fulfilled his childhood dream of living close enough to walk to baseball games, O'Neill demonstrates why his perspective resonated with readers for over three decades.Join us for this remarkable conversation with a true Pittsburgh treasure. What strange twists of fate have shaped your life? We'd love to hear your story in the comments.THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!!!!www.holdmycutter.com

Pirates fans want hitting, but don't trust the team to acquire the right pieces. The Yankees traded for third baseman Ryan McMahon and could take a landing spot away from Ke'Bryan Hayes.
Mitch Keller has become one of the most attractive players on the trade front. Bob doesn't know what to expect from Johan Oviedo when he comes back to Pittsburgh and how his stuff will play. Bob said most players when he played didn't think much of the trade deadline and there wasn't much speculation around trades. We hear from fans on what the Pirates should do on July 31.
Bubba Chandler and Johan Oviedo made solid starts in the minor leagues this week. We could soon see Chandler debut as his strikeout to walk ratio is improving. Konnor Griffin is the No. 1 overall prospect in baseball. Second round pick Angel Cervantes is electing to go to UCLA, not sign in Pittsburgh. Jason explains what it all means.
Noah Hiles from The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette comes on The Fan Hotline to address some different rumors surrounding the Pirates with the MLB trade deadline approaching.
Adam Crowley reacts to some reports about interest from some MLB teams in Pirates' CF Oneil Cruz.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Pittsburgh Pirates MLB Pick Prediction by Tony T. Diamondbacks at Pirates 6:40PM ET—Ryne Nelson makes the start for Arizona. Nelson appeared in 21 games carrying an ERA of 3.52 with WHIP of 1.06. The right hander strikes out 20.4% with 7.7% walks. Ground balls dealt at 40.8% with 0.96 home runs per nine innings.
Spreadsheet Play of the day | Diamondbacks vs. Pirates MLB Prediction, 7/25/25 by Ron Crawford.
Is Andrew McCutchen a Hall of Famer? Jason spent the day with Chuck in Uniontown at PNC Park on Wednesday. Chuck met Paul Skenes, Bob Nutting, and others. He was blown away meeting Skenes. This is the most anticipated Steelers training camp in nearly two decades. The results will fall on Mike Tomlin, but it seems like Tomlin has tried to shift and adapt to add big name pieces.
Dan had Chuck in Uniontown on the pregame show Wednesday as his co-host. Dan thinks Chuck in Uniontown is the greatest caller to a baseball postgame show in the country. Dan doesn't think Mitch Keller is going to get traded and wouldn't trade him. Dan doesn't think a contender will be willing to part with a significant bat during the season to acquire Mitch Keller.
The Pirates will wear a jersey patch honoring Dave Parker for the remainder of the season. Jason is keeping his eyes on linebacker and the Steelers moving on from Elandon Roberts. He looked at safety and how Minkah's departure affects the secondary. Jason doesn't know what to think of Robert Woods and Roman Wilson. Can they be key pieces?
If you could have a new owner, or the same owner with a cap and floor what would you choose? If the owner had to spend to a floor, would he still want to own the team? Or would you take a great scouting department?

Paul Skenes won his first game since May 28. Mitch Keller trade ideas. The Steelers start training camp on Wednesday. What should we expect from Aaron Rodgers? We question how good the Pirates pitching depth is. They have a lot of pieces, but how good are they?
Adam Crowley reacts to Pirates' broadcasters Greg Brown and John Wehner signing during Monday's broadcast of the Pirates' game against the Detroit Tigers.
The first series back after the All-Star break did not go as planned for the Los Angeles Dodgers. On the flip-side, it went as well as it could go for the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers swept the Dodgers, in LA, over the weekend as they extended their win streak to ten and climbed up the standings to tie the Cubs for the lead in the NL Central. The Dodgers remain 3.5 games up in the NL West, but everything is not going according to the script in Los Angeles. Mookie Betts' struggles continued, and he's now been moved into the leadoff spot, and Freddie Freeman left the game Sunday after getting hit on the wrist. Freeman's future availability is currently in question. Jake and Jordan discuss both the impressive success of the Brewers and the Dodgers struggles. That was not the only sweep of the weekend as the Blue Jays and Diamondbacks swept their series, and the Chicago White Sox notched their first sweep of the year by taking down the Pittsburgh Pirates. The guys dive into each of these series as well as the Cubs vs. Red Sox, Yankees vs. Braves and Reds vs. Mets. They wrap up by going Turbo Mode to chat about every other series over the weekend.
