Pirates reporter Colin Beazley from the PG joined the show. Colin labeled Esmerlyn Valdez as ‘untouchable' ahead of the trade deadline and said he wouldn't part with really anyone on the Major League roster right now. Colin mentioned that a Mason Miller trade would likely include a big-money player from the Padres that they are looking to move in order to free up money. How can the Pirates add to the roster without adding much in terms of payroll? Colin's guess is that Luke Weaver will be the Pirates main target at the trade deadline. Colin thinks the next 2 weeks could be the final days of Dennis Santana in a Pirates uniform.
The Pirates took 2 of 3 over the weekend in Cleveland. Saturday night left a sour taste after the Pirates blew another game, but the response on Sunday may have fixed all of that for people. The Buccos are tied for a playoff spot entering play today. What were the highlights from this series? Poni bragged about his harness race victory on Saturday.

Yesterday will be remembered as the Billy Cook game. Which team from the National League is the biggest threat to the Pirates in the wild card race? Oneil Cruz is still working his way back from injury and as we get closer to the trade deadline, there are more people suggesting that Cruz should be on the table. Injured players that are on the IL are eligible to be traded – something that changed a few years ago. How much of a downgrade is it to roll with Jake Mangum full-time in CF? PM Team Guess Who? Former Pirates closer Matt Capps joined the show. Matt, a former closer, loves the idea of Mason Miller at the trade deadline because of the versatility it would allow the Pirates to have in their bullpen. He thinks a move like that makes the Buccos a top 2-3 team in the NL. Matt talked about the confidence issue that can be had by guys in the bullpen and why things may not be working for Dennis Santana right now. What else can the Pirates do to fix up their ‘pen before we hit the last stretch of the season?
Paul Skenes has optimism that many current Pirates will be future All-Stars. What should the Pirates do with their pitchers in the second half of the season? The guys wonder if another starter is needed by the Buccos. Could Robbie Ray be a trade candidate for Pittsburgh?
The Pirates have a very little chance to win the NL Central because the Brewers have created such a gap. But what about a wild card spot? Fan Graphs gives them the best chance of any team outside looking in to make the postseason. The site gives the Pirates just under a 42% chance to make it to October. Are they better than the Cardinals, Diamondbacks and Marlins? Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Jon Gruden continues to praise the work of Will Howard as we have yet to see him in a pro game. Ray thinks it's more of the same and added what we have heard so many times from Mike McCarthy so far. Per usual, Ray said the offense in the preseason will be vanilla, so it could come down to what we see in practice. Ray reacted to the idea that 6 Steelers, including Keeanu Benton, would fetch a 1st round pick in return if traded. Ray expects a bounce back year from TJ Watt and thinks he will have a 12-sack season. When will the Joey Porter Jr. contract buzz start to pick up again and when will that deal get done? How long will it take for Max Iheanachor to become the starter at right tackle? Poni took us on a ride through some football preview books.
The MLB All Star Game is tonight and the Pirates have just 2 representatives, neither of which swing the bat. Braxton Ashcraft was added as a replacement and Paul Skenes got in on his merit. Should we really care about the team reps in 2026 given how much is impacted by fan voting? The Pirates have the top offense in baseball, but nobody on the offense will be there. When did the All Star Game lose some of the pomp & circumstance?

Hour 2: Who deserves more blame for the Pirates' problems. Don Kelly or Ben Cherington? Crowley thinks the Pirates could make a trade today. And Jennifer Coolidge said she had sex with 200 men after her role in American Pie.
Steelers correspondent Mark Kaboly from The Pat McAfee Show joined the show. Mark now just tweets “Buccos” any time something goes wrong for the Pirates. Poni thinks that this is to get under the skin of Pirate fans. Mark says that he has never been reprimanded by the Tomlin regime for anything journalism related, all though it happened a couple of times with the Cowher regime. More w/ Mark – Harry Callas is on a trip to Ireland right now, and he is currently bowling. Mark was shocked to see this, as bowling is something that you can do in Pittsburgh. Mark thinks that he was a better little league baseball player than JJ Wetherholt, citing that Wetherholt played in an era with bigger barrel bats and such. More w/ Mark – Ray Fittipaldo said that the backup QB job is Will Howard's to lose. Mark vehemently disagrees with this, saying that it is Aaron Rodgers 1 and Mason Rudolph 2 unless Will Howard forces the Steelers hand.

Another blowout loss for the Buccos, falling to the A's, 11-2 in Sacramento. Poni's question to start the show – why did the Pirates fire Oscar Marin? Things were going well with him here. Several random dudes pitched well with Marin in charge and the Pirates, as a collective, had a Top 10 staff in all of baseball.

Several random dudes pitched well with Marin in charge and the Pirates, as a collective, had a Top 10 staff in all of baseball. We're getting awfully tired of Carmen Mlodzinski complaining about his role. But does he have a point? PM Team Sports Court w/ our friends from Edgar Snyder & Associates. Are the Pirates going to finish above .500? What is going on with Mitch Keller? Is there any reason to worry about Paul Skenes? How far will the United States go in the World Cup?
The Pirates' tandem of Jared Jones and Carmen Mlodzinski did not work last night, to say the least. Joe Block and Kevin Young went off on the Pirates' decision to waste Carmen Mlodzinski in a blowout loss last night. Poni thinks it is a very bad sign if guys employed by the Pirates are avidly disagreeing with the team's decision making. Endy Rodriguez has been swinging the bat very well as of late. Donny Football Debrief – Falcons QB Michael Penix has not yet been cleared to begin practicing, which likely means Tua Tagavailoa will start for them. A bunch of WPIAL football players have been ruled ineligible for the upcoming season.
The Pirates drop another series at PNC Park as the Marlins took 2 of 3 over the weekend. The Buccos have dropped 7 of their last 9 games. Poni called out Paul Skenes – saying we need more from the ace. He wasn't bad against the Marlins, but he has to take control of a game like that. Is it fair to blame Skenes at all? People seem afraid to do so.

People seem afraid to do so. Paul Skenes is against a salary cap or floor in baseball. Is that a quick way to get the fans to turn on you in a place like Pittsburgh? HOCKEY TALK! Jordan Staal is a Stanley Cup champion yet again. The former Penguin also captured the Conn Smythe award after the Hurricanes won their first Cup in 2 decades. How far away are the Penguins from the top?

Are you concerned about Paul Skenes? The Pirates ace starts tonight against the Dodgers and he has not been his dominant self in his last few outings. How much do his numbers match up with what he has done in his first few seasons? With numbers dipping a little bit, are people worried about Skenes every 5 days? ESPN has released its initial MLB All Star Game projections and the only Pirates rep is Paul Skenes. The Pirates do not have a hitter included, not even Brandon Lowe. Does it irk you that the Buccos have very little representation? The game is still over a month away. PM Team Sports Court w/ our friends from Edgar Snyder & Associates. Rumors of Aaron Donald making a return to the NFL are heating up. How far does he have to go before becoming the greatest defensive player of all-time? Is Madison Square Garden the best American sports venue? Nick doesn't believe there is an issue with Paul Skenes and thinks we will see Skenes shine tonight against the Dodgers. Nick crushed the Brendan Sorsby situation after he was ruled eligible for the 2026 season.

Another blown game for the Buccos last night and this one could take the cake for the 2026 season. The Pirates led 8-3 in the 7th inning in Houston, and wound up losing 11-9. Paul Skenes couldn't get out of the 5th inning then multiple bullpen arms got rocked, including ones that were previously pretty reliable. Are the lights too bright for Don Kelly? How much is on Ben Cherington?

How much is on Ben Cherington? How does the blame get divvied up with the Pirates bullpen blunders? Pirates insider Jason Mackey joined the show. Jason told us Carmen Mlodzinski will pitch tonight and will ‘piggy-back' off Jared Jones, who starts tonight. What will his role look like out of the ‘pen? The guys wondered if the role of Wilber Dotel will grow since he's one of the few arms that has been consistently reliable. Jason mentioned Joey Bart as a trade piece the Pirates could have once he gets healthy. Jason has doubts if improving the bullpen from the outside is doable. Who are some other arms in the organization that could help the big league club? Are we at the end of the line with Dennis Santana?

4 straight wins for the Buccos with the offense on fire. Are you starting to believe? The offense has scored 35 runs in the last 4 games. Are the bullpen arms still worrying you? The guys praised Wilber Dotel. Can you see this team being in the World Series? 93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff confirmed that Alex Highsmith was in the building today after he missed practice. The miss came the day after Nick Herbig signed his new contract with the Steelers, which created some skepticism. Jeff told us the team is not exploring trades including Highsmith because they really want to get all 3 players on the field at the same time. Jeff explained the difference between Mike McCarthy and Mike Tomlin when it comes to practice structure. How will things look with their defense? Jeff said the team is going to Kennywood tomorrow. Judge Donny – Will Paul Skenes finish 1st or 2nd in the Cy Young voting?
One day after Nick Herbig inked his $100M+ extension with the Steelers, Alex Highsmith missed practice. Steelers PR quickly got ahead of the narrative stating that Highsmith was ‘sick.' If a team approached the Steelers about trading Highsmith in exchange for a 2nd round pick, should they say Yes? Are fans buying the ‘illness' excuse for Alex Highsmith today at practice? One legendary caller said the Steelers are the ‘North Korea of the NFL' because they have an answer for everything. Bucco Minute – Another big night for the Pirates last night, beating the Astros 10-6 in Houston. Home runs from Endy Rodriguez, Oneil Cruz and Brandon Lowe. Mike Burrows started for the Astros and did his usual (not great). The guys can't get over how big the Buccos have won a trade. Should the Pirates prioritize Cruz or Lowe if they need to pay someone $200M?

A big win for the Buccos last night, beating the Cubs 12-1 at PNC Park. Another sharp start for Braxton Ashcraft, but is there about to be a problem? Is it a good problem to have? The Pirates have Jared Jones coming back to the rotation, but they have a slew of young arms that are on innings limits. 2 Pirates-Fan contributors have suggested Ashcraft being the man to the bullpen upon Jones' return. That seems like it would be a big much, considering Ashcraft has been the best starter on the team – even better than Paul Skenes. Marcell Ozuna continues to struggle, but the Pirates offense overall has been great. Imagine if this guy begins carrying his weight. Calls on the Pirates pitching predicament. HOCKEY TALK! We haven't heard from usual guest Tyler Kennedy in a few weeks, which has sparked concern about our show. It seems like a few team reporters were swerved by the Evgeni Malkin re-signing. Did ownership push Kyle Dubas to bring Geno back?
