Former Steeler turned NFL analyst Ryan Clark joined the show. Ryan talked about what is going on with the Steelers offense right now. He gave his thoughts on Matt Canada and how he works for this team. Ryan got into what he has thought of Mitch Trubisky and his performance so far and what kind of spot he is in, in front of a rookie QB. He doesn't think making the jump to Kenny Pickett is the right move for right now. Poni asked Ryan about players speaking out in the Steelers locker room and he said it's just a different time than when he was a player – he said it's not exactly the era of accountability. Ryan talked about how George Pickens can get going in what has been a slow start to his career. Ryan said the Steelers have the chance to make Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren into a great one-two punch because they are a great change of pace to each other.

Mike Tomlin spoke today at his weekly press conference and he claims to feel better about the Steelers offense. Poni is in disbelief as Tomlin is pushing away at the fact that Sunday is a must-win against the Jets. Donny thinks Tomlin is blowing smoke and that he knows in his heart of hearts how important a win on Sunday is, but he just wants to play it cool as always.  Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the Post-Gazette joined the show. Ray gave the Steelers offense a C or D+ grade through the first three games of the season and said it has not been good enough to keep the job done. Ray referenced change at QB eventually and does not expect a change coming at offensive coordinator in the middle of the season. Ray also gave Mitch Trubisky a C grade and thinks the Steelers were just hoping for that before TJ Watt got injured, which has drastically changed the production of the defense. Ray talked about all of the changes going on with the whole roster and why Trubisky and Matt Canada are not the whole problem right now. The offensive line has been OK, according to Ray – he doesn't want to fully praise them, but agreed they have been better than expected. He said the run game still isn't there over the course of a game and the pass game has been Trubisky letting the ball go quickly. The coaching staff also got graded a C to this point in the season.  A Pittsburgh tourism site put out the most-attended events at PNC Park this year. A Pirates game comes in at #5 in the first game against the Yankees.

93.7 The Fan Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn joined the show. Jeff talked about the change on the Steelers depth chart on the defensive line as Montravius Adams being named starter over Tyson Alualu. Poni questioned the change after Adams struggled against the run last year in Alualu's absence. Jeff commented on when Minkah Fitzpatrick was placed on the injury report and how he seemed in the locker room after Thursday's loss. Jeff does not think Kendrick Green starts in the absence of Kevin Dotson and it will likely be Jesse Davis instead. Jeff doesn't anticipate a ton of changes, but is hopeful we see more of Mitch Trubisky using his legs outside of the pocket. Jeff gave his thoughts on what Mike Tomlin said earlier today and if he buys into it. He said Tomlin knows the team has been beat up and wants to lift the spirits a little bit by not panicking.

Poni asked, if votes were all anonymous in the locker room, if the offensive players voted Yes or No to fire Matt Canada, most would vote Yes. Josh said he expects Mike Tomlin to stand behind the offensive coordinator, but there should be conversations around the position because of what this offense looks like right now. Poni pushed for one of the reporters tomorrow to question Tomlin about the OC and how bad the offense is. Josh did say that the team has belief behind Mitch Trubisky and the players firmly believe it's a problem with the play caller.

There are more Steelers making mention of the questionable offensive play calling. Mason Cole and Chase Claypool aren't sure why the hurry-up isn't used more often and aren't sure what the offense's identity is. The guys go through what the Steelers could do with this offense. The guys said it's promising that the players are seeing through their poor offensive game plan because you will not get things done in 2022 by just not turning the ball over. Chris was rooting hard for Mike Tomlin coming into the season because it would vindicate that he could get things done without Ben Roethlisberger. Will we ever get a big change – not just at QB, but the offensive coordinator? The players think Matt Canada sucks. Poni said it's weird the Steelers and Tomlin have not learned their lesson.  Award-winning 93.7 The Fan reporter Josh Rowntree joined the show. Aditi talked about how much parity there is in the league right now and it isn't time to panic yet for any team in the league. Aditi didn't completely dismiss Josh Rowntree's reporting of players anonymously voting for Matt Canada to be fired, but she doesn't see that happening during the season. Audacy NFL analyst Brian Baldinger joined the show. Brian said the Steelers third down conversion stat is brutally bad and they just can't manage to stay on the field. He said throwing go routes to Diontae Johnson (or any WR) on third downs over 5 yards is not the answer. Baldy was impressed by how well the Steelers contained Myles Garrett. He was puzzled as to why they didn't attack the Cleveland defense more with a few players out. Baldy loves George Pickens and thinks there are so many ways you can get him involved in the offense. He said Mitch Trubisky didn't lose the game, but he didn't do anything to really win it either. Baldy talked about the throws that Mitch made last night and what kind of throws he should make more often for success. On the defense, Poni asked about Cam Heyward being relatively absent. Baldy gave a ton of credit to the Browns offensive line and how they attacked the Steelers up front. Chris asked about the secondary that got picked apart by Jacoby Brissett last night and if it's concerning for the future. Baldy is sure the Steelers are having plenty of conversations about starting quarterback and if Kenny Pickett is ready to roll. “The quarterback's job is to keep the offense on the field and maybe Kenny Pickett can do it better” was a great line for Baldy to finish on.

Anthony said there are Browns fans who already believe a loss tonight will end their season. He said the absence of Jadeveon Clowney is a huge loss because he's off to a great start. Aaron Judge hit his 60th home run last night tying Babe Ruth on the single season record list and it happened against the Pirates.  Former NFL GM Doug Whaley joined The Fan Morning Show today and had some great takes on Matt Canada and the Steelers offense. He said if there is a mutiny in the locker room there could be a change before the season is over – saying it's harder to find a Diontae Johnson, Kenny Pickett, George Pickens, etc. than it is to find an offensive coordinator like Canada. The guys loved Doug suggesting and calling for change before it's too late, but Poni doesn't expect Omar Khan to stand up to Mike Tomlin and set things straight.  Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. How close are we to seeing the Steelers benching Mitch Trubisky? With a short week ahead, his job is safe for this week. The following game is after a 10-day layoff. Would another bad performance call for Kenny Pickett in week four? Chris said he'd be OK with the Steelers going to Pickett right now even with the Thursday night game this week. Poni said he's not sure if he wants Pickett in there with such a conservative offensive scheme. Poni thinks in the long run a loss on Thursday might be more beneficial because it could show Mike Tomlin that he can't play offense this way in 2022. How responsible is Najee Harris for some of the early struggles? It's been easy for everyone to blame the offensive line, but Harris hasn't been perfect either. Chris doesn't have sympathy for the 1st round RB – he said Najee claimed to be healthy enough to play so go out and play. Gunner Olszewski also made a huge mistake, which looks even worse after his comments last week ahead of the game.  The award-winning Josh Rowntree joined the show. He said there is definitely frustration in the Steelers locker room right now after another poor performance by the offense. The guys asked Josh about when the team goes no-huddle and he mentioned if the first play of that doesn't work, they will scrap it immediately. Josh said Mitch Trubisky is definitely frustrated, but the offense should give him the opportunity to use his mobility to move the ball down the field. Chris brought up the classic Belichick mantra – Do Your Job and it seems like players have followed those words throughout Belichick's career in New England. Austin mentioned Alex Highsmith, who had a career day in week one. Are the guys buying the big game to carry over? Chris is hesitant, but Poni really sees promise in the edge rusher to carry the torch in the absence of TJ Watt. Jeff said Matt Canada and Mitch Trubisky are following the company line and are OK with playing a conservative offense because of the defense's skill level. Jeff agreed that the offense needs to take some downfield shots and more overall risk or else they will have trouble keeping up with high-scoring teams. Jeff questioned some of the personnel that was on the field for key plays last Sunday in Cincy. With 25 carries, Jeff said Najee gets 15, Warren gets 5, Trubisky gets 3 and Chase Claypool gets 2. A breakdown of Mitch Trubisky chatting with the media earlier today. He was asked about some miscommunication with George Pickens and why there was no connection between himself and the rookie WR. Chris said Trubisky is a former 2nd overall pick that played with the fear of a player with zero pedigree. Poni wondered if it was almost a cry for help in hoping Mike Tomlin and Matt Canada will allow him to take more risk in the offense. After what Tomlin said over the summer, all he is looking for is an ordinary quarterback that doesn't turn the ball over or screw things up. Mike talked about the impact of losing TJ Watt for 4-6 weeks and how the defense/team can adjust. The guys congratulated Mike for predicting a Steelers win and getting the score on the nose. He gave his report card of Mitch Trubisky on the day and his general thoughts on the QBs debut with Pittsburgh. Mike talked about what Trubisky can do to keep the people rooting for Kenny Pickett off his back. Mike said he's hopeful the Steelers crank it up a little bit on offense with the absence of Watt on defense because it will be hard to win games their way the entire season. The guys asked Mike about where the Patriots are right now and how people aren't used to seeing Bill Belichick in the position he's in. He wondered how long Robert Kraft gives Belichick to get something done in the post-Tom Brady era. The guys asked about Brady and if there's any shot he retires midseason due to struggles in his marriage. Mike said the Cowboys have likely made all the calls they planned on making to trade for a QB with Dak Prescott hurt as Mason Rudolph is still a member of the Steelers roster. Award-winning 93.7 The Fan reporter Josh Rowntree joined the show. Josh said Najee Harris didn't say much more about his lingering Lisfranc injury. Josh heard it is “foot related,” while others have heard it is a flare up of the Lisfranc from the preseason. Josh said he's confident Harris will start, but he expects Jaylen Warren to be worked in a lot, even more than he was in the season opener.  Poni is shocked TJ Watt doesn't have more of a six pack.  Has Mitch Trubisky, at 1-0, actually opened the door a little bit wider to Kenny Pickett? The guys wondered if the poor offensive performance was more on Matt Canada or Trubisky. A big play in question was one that left George Pickens open downfield, but Trubisky threw the ball away, afraid he would turn it over. Are the coaches going to be afraid to do anything downfield due to fear of a turnover? The guys agreed the team will not win in this league in 2022 with an offense like this. Chris thinks Mike Tomlin should take the shackles off Trubisky and the offense at some point or else this team won't make it on defense alone.

Mike Tomlin spoke to the media today to recap the win over the Bengals and the preparation ahead for the Patriots. He seemed to love what he saw from the Steelers offense, which had arguably the worst offense in football. Poni said it's Tomlin trying to put lipstick on a pig. Tomlin also seemed to like what he saw from the offensive line.  Sports Doctor, Dr. David Chao joined the show. David said the difference between pectoral muscle and pectoral tendon was a huge difference – the muscle is much easier to rehab from at a quicker pace, which is why TJ Watt is only looking at a 4-6 week injury. David then got into the Najee Harris injury and thinks through video it looks more like an ankle sprain instead of a Lisfranc injury, which Najee said he had during the preseason. He said he's pessimistic about Najee playing this week against New England. He isn't sold on Harris being good to go for the game even if he practices a little bit this week.

Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the Post-Gazette joined the show. Ray had his early thoughts after yesterday's Steelers win in Cincy. Ray talked about the struggles in the run game and what the offense looked like as a whole. Chris asked Ray if he puts that blame on Mitch Trubisky or Matt Canada – he thinks the team will be conservative on offense in hopes of a great defensive performance every week. Poni asked why George Pickens had such a little impact and if he was open downfield as much as it seemed. Ray said the Bengals were clearly daring the Steelers to go deep, but Pickens was underutilized.

Steelers 23, Bengals 20 – The Steelers pull off a stunner in Cincy. Did the Steelers win the battle, but lose the war? A whirlwind victory against the defending AFC champions. However, injuries to TJ Watt and Najee Harris. What is their status or best-case scenario? If Harris is not 100% for week two, Chris called for Jaylen Warren to be the team's starting RB against New England. With the schedule not being a gauntlet in weeks 2-4, Chris is OK with Najee sitting in all three of those games.  Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the Post-Gazette joined the show. Ray had his early thoughts after yesterday's Steelers win in Cincy. Ray talked about the struggles in the run game and what the offense looked like as a whole. Alabama and Texas finally meet tomorrow – Mullsy and Donny are ready for their bet with Poni's pal, Texas Keith.  Steelers-Bengals WHITE HOT TAKES. Color commentator for the NFL on CBS, Charles Davis joined the show. Charles is excited to call the game with the NFL on CBS on Sunday and said the Steelers are starting the right guy at quarterback. He said Mitch Trubisky stood up to the test in the preseason and we'll see how that translates to the regular season. He talked about what Trubisky has gone through since his departure from Chicago and why the year in Buffalo helped him even though he was a backup. Charles doesn't think we see Kenny Pickett on Sunday unless an injury occurs or the game is completely out of hand. He thinks it's important for Mike Tomlin to stick with Mitch under almost all circumstances. The guys asked Charles if the Steelers have any shot of pulling another week one upset like last year in Buffalo – he said last year was an example of how underrated Ben Roethlisberger was at times. Charles, a Tennessee grad, was asked if his Volunteers will beat Pitt on the road tomorrow.

FOOTBALL FRIDAY. The regular season is here. Steelers-Bengals Sunday at 1. Where do we stand with Mitch Trubisky? Do we get a little Mitch-a-palooza in Cincy? Will Mike Tomlin be put in a spot where he has to go to Kenny Pickett? Chris thinks we need to see Mitch given a good sample size of a chance and expects him to get at least a few starts regardless of how he looks on Sunday. Poni doesn't think it's out of the question that we will see Pickett in week one. The guys agreed Trubisky has more to gain and less to lose in this game even with a rookie QB behind him because of who and where they are playing.  Bengals insider Mo Egger from ESPN Radio joined the show. Mo said Joe Burrow is good to go and the appendix won't hold him back. He said the offensive line looks fixed, but the unit with four new players on it never played together during the preseason and said it will take time for the group to gel even though they are better on paper. Mo expects Joe Mixon to get a steady dose of carries, especially early in the game, since Burrow did not play in the preseason. He said it'll be interesting to see how teams defend them this season since they know how high powered the offense can be. Mo's prediction on the game: 23-16 Bengals.  Poni has a gripe with the Bengals – the team is too cocky after winning the AFC last year after years of mediocrity and playoff failures. He said if the Bengals lose this game they are back to the Bungles. Chris and Donny said they are still a huge threat.

Mullsy's prediction: 9-8, miss playoffs. Poni's prediction: 8-9, miss playoffs. Donny's prediction: 9-8, miss playoffs. The oddsmakers have the Steelers picked last in the AFC North. Even the Browns without Deshaun Watson for 11 games have better odds to win the division. The guys are in somewhat disbelief that oddsmakers see more promise in Jacoby Brissett than Mitch Trubisky. The guys think the Steelers have the edge in offensive skill and the defenses are about even. The guys think there is a better shot the Steelers win the division before finishing in last. Poni is so convinced the Steelers will be better than the Browns, he's putting his balls on the line. The guys reupped on their AFC North ranking predictions.  Former Steeler Kordell Stewart joined the show. Kordell talked about what the Steelers are facing this Sunday and how he feels about Mitch Trubisky as QB1. He said Mitch looked like he belonged in the preseason games and looks comfortable in the offense so far. Kordell said the quarterback has to be mobile and add a different flare to the offense. He's confident that Mike Tomlin has this thing under control and he won't let the season get away from the Steelers. Kordell said they can't jump to Kenny Pickett too quickly so they shouldn't have a super quick trigger on Trubisky. He said he's in no rush to put Pickett on the field and it's important to stay patient. He reiterated that Tomlin has a grip on the situation. He said Najee Harris is a key component of the offense and the team will be OK. Kordell's Steelers season prediction: 1st or 2nd in the AFC North, make playoffs.

Diontae Johnson was injured in the Steelers final preseason game. Despite Mike Tomlin saying Johnson would return if it were a regular season game, Johnson disputed that, and his status for Sunday is in question.  The contract of TJ Watt has been restructured, which gives the Steelers flexibility to add a player as the regular season comes around. Should the Steelers kick the tires on Eric Fisher? They don't need a generational talent at left tackle, but they need someone better than Dan Moore Jr. Poni speculated the team having money open to bring back Joe Haden. Chris said that concerns him for two reasons – they seem to be happy with the offensive line and they aren't happy with their corners. The guys agreed fixing, or at least attempting to fix the offensive line is the first move you have to make.  Award-winning 93.7 The Fan reporter Josh Rowntree joined the show. Josh talked about a near battle he got into in the Steelers locker room today with a national cameraman. The guys jumped to the team and Josh talked about what Mason Rudolph said today. Josh said he wouldn't blame Rudolph for requesting a trade. Josh gave his report on what to make of Diontae Johnson and the injury that could keep him out of Sunday's game. He said the vibe from Johnson wasn't very optimistic.

Copy and Paste. Ctrl C + Ctrl V. Apologies for any clerical errors in here. Mike Tomlin said that was what happened to the Steelers week one depth chart when Kenny Pickett was listed as the third string QB behind Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph. Pickett is in fact the backup. The guys had their fun with that. So now that it's settled, what does it mean for Sunday? How much of a leash does Trubisky have as the starter and a captain? A lot of blame was thrown on the Bears for Trubisky's struggles in Chicago – are we sure Matt Canada can fix that? Poni thinks Tomlin is looking ahead to when Pickett could start.  KDKA TV's Bob Pompeani joined the show. Bob had his hands full earlier today with the Steelers' technical difficulties during the Mike Tomlin press conference. Bob explained what happened with the Steelers coverage of the press conference today. He believes the depth chart incident was a “clerical error,” as Tomlin said. Bob said he was in the dark on the Franco Harris jersey retirement announcement until it happened. Bob predicts the Steelers to finish 9-8 because of the offensive line concerns. A bonus Pomp prediction – Buffalo and Philadelphia meet in the Super Bowl.
