Today we're chatting with Rachel Koffsky Parker, Senior Vice President and International Head of Department for Handbags and Accessories at Christie's auction house — one of the most recognized voices in the global luxury handbag market and, an auctioneer herself, having taken handbag sales in New York, London, Geneva, and Hong Kong. After internships at the Met and the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Rachel found her way to Christie's in 2014, just as handbags were becoming a formalized auctionhouse category. Since, she has helped build the handbag category from the ground up, growing into what is now one of the most strategically important departments in the house — responsible for bringing in 12% of all new Christie's clients and selling in excess of forty million dollars in handbags worldwide last year alone. Over the last decade plus, she's brought the first single-owner handbag collections to market in both Milan and Paris, set world auction records for Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci, and helped transform the way an entire generation of collectors thinks about handbags — not just as accessories, but as objects with history, rarity, provenance, and serious investment value. On today's episode, we get into all of it: how she built her expertise by cataloging up to a hundred bags a week, what actually drives value at auction, the record-breaking lots that still give her chills, and why a little wear and patina has gone from a liability to a badge of honor in the eyes of today's collectors. All that and more! Let's dive right in! DISCUSSED IN THE EPISODE: [4:00] Rachel grew up obsessed with Lucky Magazine, loving all things fashion and handbags. [6:35] How her love of luxury handbags led to a career in the auction house. [9:16] The first Christie's auction to include handbags was in 1978, but it wasn't until 2014 that handbags became a formalized category at the house. [10:25] Handbags now bring in 12% of all new Christie's clients, making it one of the most strategically important departments in the house. [12:20] Christie's customers began to understand handbags as an asset class. [18:06] What drives pre-sale estimates, and what provenance means in the auction world [23:55] Christie's world-record handbag auctions [31:43] Current trends on the secondary luxury market [36:17] The upcoming Christie's luxury week sale with over 250 lots [38:10] What goes into producing an auction [40:32] Rachel's Holy Grail lot [42:22] The personal pieces Rachel will never part with EPISODE MENTIONS: Christie's @christiesinc @christieshandbags Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton pumpkin bag Hermès Kelly Doll Upcoming Handbag auction: 28 May to 11 June. In art right now, it's hard to avoid talking about Beeple. That, of course, is the alias of Charleston-based Mike Winkelmann, known to millions of followers for digital images that he makes and posts daily. These works give off the sense of a brain overdosing on memes—we're talking pictures of giant emojis and pop culture junk being worshiped in dystopian techno hellscapes, or melted versions of celebrities and politicians turned into grotesque monsters and killer robots. Beeple first burst into the center of the art world conversation in early 2021 when his work Everydays, The First 5,000 Days hit the block at Christie's Auction House. Sold as an NFT, it was essentially a high-resolution digital image that compiled everything he had made in his first decade-plus of daily posting. It sold for a shocking $69 million, still one of the biggest prices ever for a work by a living artist, and it made Beeple a symbol of both the new respect and opportunity for digital artists and of critics' worst fears about a blockchain-fueled art bubble and the meltdown of taste. While that digital art bubble did crash, Beeple survived and experimented with new media. One of his interactive video sculptures has only just closed at LACMA in Los Angeles, while a set of robot dogs with human heads that he created was the talk of the recent Art Basel Miami Beach art fair in December. His work inspires a lot of commentary, positive and negative, including from national critic, Ben Davis. But there is no doubt that his influence seems to be growing as both museums and galleries try to figure out how to court a new generation of digital natives.

Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown joined the show. Greg reflected on the season from Paul Skenes as he enters his final home start of the season. Greg said it's already hard to tell if there is another pitcher in Pirates history more dominant than Skenes. Greg said the division crown is still a goal, but it only takes the team being a little better than average to be in a playoff spot. Greg said it takes a legitimate starting SS and/or 3B to feel serious about next season. Greg talked about the decision by Don Kelly to sit Oneil Cruz and how frustrating the second half of the season has been for Cruz. The guys asked Greg about the idea of Cruz changing his position yet again in the offseason. Poni had Greg answer questions all around the diamond for the 2026 Buccos. The Steelers have released Robert Woods, who never suited up in a regular season game with the team. A few friends of Aaron Rodgers got cut today and could be on their way to Pittsburgh. Adam Schefter reported today that the Raiders do not intend on trading Jakobi Meyers, despite the player asking for that yesterday. There is another receiver who may be available that is coming off a pretty good season. Pitt man Pat Bostick joined the show. Pat, part of the broadcast booth for Pitt football, will also be the new host for the Pat Narduzzi Show this season. Pat said there are a number of reasons why Kenny Pickett has struggled in the NFL. Pat isn't writing off the rest of his career, citing what he did in Philly. Pat doesn't rule out Pickett having a career turnaround like Baker Mayfield or Geno Smith, but said ‘a lot would have to go right.' Pat thinks the trials and tribulations Pickett went through at Pitt made him prepared for being moved around in the NFL. The guys asked Pat about the Panthers going into 2025 and what we could see from Eli Holstein this season. Pat is excited for another college football season. He gave his Steelers season prediction and had them winning a game. Black & Gold Auction House – Round 5.

Black & Gold Auction House – Round 4. Poni is ½ so far on his preseason lines.
Jim Nantz thinks that the Aaron Rodgers experiment will work for the Steelers. Gabe Davis left the Steelers facility without a contract again, as confirmed by Josh Allen. Mullsy says that it is a no-brainer for Davis, and that he should sign with Buffalo. Terry Mclaurin was absent from the Commanders preseason game last night. Should the Steelers try to acquire Terry? Aaron Rodgers talked to the media today, and raved about Roman Wilson once again. Rodgers also said that he has a built-in laugh track because he's the old guy. Poni says that he thinks Rodgers likes Austin more than Wilson. Black & Gold Auction House – Round 4. Poni is ½ so far on his preseason lines.
Since 2018, the Association on American Indian Affairs, based in Washington, D.C., has tracked potentially sensitive Native items sold at auctions around the world. Many of these items hold spiritual or cultural significance for tribes across the United States. The organization has found an ally in Revere Auctions, a St. Paul-based auction house believed to be the only one in the country with a formal process for repatriating Native American items. The process provides a pathway for returning items of spiritual importance to tribal governments.Shannon O'Loughlin, a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and the CEO and attorney for the Association on American Indian Affairs, and Sean Blanchet, co-founder of Revere Auctions, joined MPR News host Nina Moini to discuss this work.
Steelers Auction House – Round 3. Donny gets Chris Boswell for 35+ field goals in 2025. Mullsy gets Cam Heyward for 8+ sacks. Donny gets Aaron Rodgers for 26+ touchdowns.
Rodgers says that he likes joint practices because you get to play against more real defenses. He also says that he and DK are doing a better job getting on the same page. Rodgers called himself the comic relief guy on the headset during the preseason game. He also says that he talks to TJ Watt and Cam Heyward a lot, and says that he gravitates towards the old heads. It appears that Aaron Rodgers got stepped on by one of his own linemen at practice today. He is back at practice. Poni talks about his experience with crabs in college. The guys answer calls. Steelers Auction House – Round 3. Donny gets Chris Boswell for 35+ field goals in 2025. Mullsy gets Cam Heyward for 8+ sacks. Donny gets Aaron Rodgers for 26+ touchdowns.
The Steelers depth chart is out. There were a few takeaways. One of them being the bloom being off the rose that is Roman Wilson in training camp, who is currently listed as their 5th receiver. The training camp returns on Wilson are disappointing. How much do we take this into account given how we know Mike Tomlin claims to not pay attention to his early depth charts? We are hearing people watching practice say Scotty Miller has looked noticeably better than Wilson. The guys dug into Jonnu Smith and Pat Freiermuth being listed together as TE1. And are we in for a punter battle for the ages? Former NFL GM Michael Lombardi joined the show. The guys asked Michael about the idea of a Terry McLaurin trade and if the Steelers have a shot to make it happen. Michael talked about some major differences he's finding between the college and pro game. Will the Steelers have success with Aaron Rodgers? He thinks arm strength is one of the most overrated attributes for a QB. Michael thinks the Steelers need to win a playoff game to claim success in 2025. The guys asked Michael about the Steelers change in philosophy with some flashy free agent moves. Michael listed some guys he feels like played for the Steelers that should get more Hall of Fame consideration. Steelers Auction House – Round 2.
Bucco Auction House – Round 12. The guys forgot that Alexander Canario was still on the team. Donny gets Andrew McCutchen at 14+ homers. Poni gets 5+ Pirates trades before the deadline. Poni gets 1+ Bubba Chandler starts for the Pirates this year.
The Steelers had their padded practice in Latrobe canceled for fans due to thunderstorms today. Instead, they held a walkthrough in the gym. The guys think Zach Frazier and Keeanu Benton would be good MMA fighters. Do more MMA fights end in knockout or submission? Payton Wilson says that the Steelers are determined to stop the run this year. The Steelers gave up 200 yards on the ground 1 time in 12 years, and then proceeded to let it happen 2 times in the last 4 games last season. Poni defends the Derrick Harmon pick, saying that their pass defense was not the issue down the stretch. The Steelers going over 8.5 wins is the most bet on win total at ESPN Bet, and the line has not moved.
Bucco Auction House – Round 11. Donny shows faith in Oneil Cruz post HRD. The guys don't know how to predict Paul Skenes win total post All-Star Break. How many games will the Pirates out of their last 65?
Paul Skenes is a special talent, Poni mentions the unfortunate scenario that Pirates fans have to “stop and smell the roses with Skenes”. Poni also thinks that Oneil Cruz is not a player that a team should build around. Chris thinks the Pirates have underwhelmed in general when finding talent. Poni decided to start trying in Cam Heyward's softball game after he got rocked in the first inning. He thinks that people thought he took the game to seriously. James Harrison was not a fan of Callas' pitching. Bucco Auction House – Round 11. Donny shows faith in Oneil Cruz post HRD. The guys don't know how to predict Paul Skenes win total post All-Star Break. How many games will the Pirates out of their last 65?
There's a feeling that a handful of teams are waiting on TJ Watt and seeing what happens with his negotiations with the Steelers. Poni listed the Eagles, 49ers and Lions as the teams that feel like the most likely to make a move. Which team would be the best to make a deal with? Former MLB pitcher Matt Clement joined the show. Matt gave his thoughts on Paul Skenes named to his second straight All Star Game and the idea that the Pirates are limiting his innings so he can pitch in the mid-summer classic. Skenes is 4-7 and he might start the ASG – Matt doesn't think the players are worked up with his usage so far. The guys asked Matt how much the mentality has changed with some players when they get pulled, but he also pointed out that Skenes likely knew of his workload before the start. Matt said that is a conversation for behind closed doors. Matt said the HR Derby is a ‘fan' event and they got it right by adding Oneil Cruz to the festivities. Matt told the guys he would go out and watch select players during his era take batting practice because it was that entertaining. Matt got to see a young Miguel Cabrera in his early days. The guys asked Matt about any pitchers that could rake while he played. Bucco Auction House – Round 10.
We dove back into the big trade from yesterday. What was the reason why the Steelers felt like they could part with Minkah Fitzpatrick? The guys wondered if this trade was more a ‘cutting of losses' for the team. Was Minkah one of the reasons why there was a lack of communication on defense last season? We looked into a few avenues as to how this trade could have gone down. We noted that both teams are looking at the trade from a different perspective. ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler joined the show. Jeremy said based on everything he has heard around the league, he doesn't have the expectation of TJ Watt being dealt. Jeremy referenced the Myles Garrett trade request and the deal that happened a few days later. Jeremy talked about the aggressive nature Omar Khan brings to negotiations. Jeremy is under the impression that Watt wants the guaranteed money to be higher than Garrett's. The guys asked Jeremy about what a trade package could look like if the Steelers wanted to move on from Watt. Jeremy still thinks Gabe Davis could be on the table for the Steelers before we reach training camp. Does Jonnu Smith solve any offensive issues? He said Jalen Ramsey is a chess piece that can play a lot of different spots in that defense. Will the Steelers add to the offense with another receiver? Jeremy tried explaining some of the financial details in yesterday's blockbuster trade. Steelers Auction House – Round 1.
Bucco Auction House check-in.
Chris thinks it's crazy for any of us in Pittsburgh to be talking about championships right now, even if it's a good radio topic. It's hard enough for us to ask for a playoff win. Chris thinks it's a cruel question to ask people right now. Chris feels like the Penguins are the closest team to actually winning a title. They still have Sidney Crosby and even though it's unknown what we get from Kyle Dubas, there seems to be a plan in place. The economics of baseball really work against the Pirates as well as the poor ownership. Bucco Auction House check-in.
Gabe Davis is visiting the Steelers later this week. How do we feel about this? Chris brought up some concerning numbers for his overall career. Donny said the Steelers made their bed with this when they traded George Pickens a few weeks ago. Bills sideline reporter Sal Capaccio joined the show. Sal gave us the skinny on Gabe Davis after he spent the best part of his career in Buffalo. Sal brought up the great point that many Bills fans didn't want him after he came available lately. Did his big-game performances earn him any points? Sal said there are too many drops in his game. Sal said Davis is a ‘tireless worker,' but there are just too many inconsistencies with his game. Sal told us Davis was used for a lot of downfield passing and not really anything underneath. According to Sal, Davis is a ‘willing blocker' that would be useful in the run game. Sal noted that it is important to remember Davis got released by the Jags with a failed physical diagnosis, which has several teams worried about his health. Sal talked about some of the teams that were originally interested in Davis when he hit free agency. Bucco Auction House – Round 9.
Was there a QB move the Steelers should have made instead of waiting around for Aaron Rodgers? The list of QB transactions this offseason was underwhelming to say the least. The guys think Justin Fields coming back would have been the most logical move. Should there be any expectations for Roman Wilson this season? What did receivers not named George Pickens do last year for the Steelers? How BAD was the Steelers offseason, according to ESPN? Bucco Auction House – Round 8.
Mason Rudolph hopped on the Kaboly & Mack podcast and revealed to those guys that the Steelers made it clear they are signing him as a backup, as indicated by the paycheck. Poni thinks Mason realizes that he is an acolyte of Aaron Rodgers and already may be thinking he won't start, but has a chance to play due to the old man getting injured. Is it a guarantee that Will Howard will make the team? The guys don't think Skylar Thompson making the team is as far fetched as everyone assumes. Robert Griffin III and Ryan Clark are beefing online. It's getting pretty spicy. And there's a video out there of Aaron Rodgers at a concert that came from the great, Dov Kleiman. Is this the answer to Rodgers being married or retired? Bucco Auction House – Round 7.
So, did the BIG Steelers announcement today include Aaron Rodgers? It doesn't look like. In fact, it seems like it is an announcement that everyone already knew – that the team will play the Vikings in Ireland on September 28. When will the Rodgers thing happen? The players don't even know. Dan Orlovsky thinks the Steelers have the saddest offense in football. Is that true? We also made the The Herd today, but they messed up the names a little bit. Bucco Auction House – Round 6.
Bucco Auction House – Round 5.
Are you tired of the angst around Aaron Rodgers? Is it better to just go forward with Mason Rudolph? Is there a business sense to this with Rodgers being so newsworthy every single day? GIVEAWAY. Bucco Auction House – Round 5.
We are still waiting on Aaron Rodgers, but there could be some sort of deadline coming up when the Steelers have organized team workouts on the horizon. He probably doesn't care about that, but where do the Steelers stand? Could the Saints be a new option for Rodgers because the NFC South is a more appealing division? The guys wondered if the voodoo in New Orleans would be attractive to Rodgers. Adam Schefter feels for Arthur Smith and other offensive coaches on the Steelers staff that are waiting around for this to end. The guys said Art Rooney can shut this down at any point, but it appears he's on board with everything. We looked back at that Steelers-Jets game from last season that saw Russell Wilson greatly outplay Aaron Rodgers on a national stage. Rodgers also had everything handpicked for him last season and went 5-12 with the Jets. So, are we really feeling like this is the guy to get them over the hump? The guys think there is ‘stench of desperation' surrounding the Steelers. It's pretty clear Rodgers doesn't want to be here. Bucco Auction House – Round 4.

What are the Steelers going to do with George Pickens? Should they try to get something back for him for draft weekend? Is it too risky to let him go for another year without any issues? Chris predicted that Pickens won't be a Steeler after the second night of the draft. We went over some sports TV award nominees. Bucco Auction House – Round 3.
Another loss for the Pirates last night to start the season 1-4. Thomas Harrington tonight, Paul Skenes tomorrow before their first home series of the season. Harrington hasn't gotten great comps among former Pirates pitchers. We looked back at the first Ben Cherington draft in 2020 before venturing to some of the other drafts under GMBC. Finding a legitimate hitter has been an Achilles heel. How do the trades under Ben Cherington look in his Pirates' tenure? Bucco Auction House – Round 2.
Does hope spring eternal for the 2025 Pittsburgh Pirates? Besides Paul Skenes, what is there to root for or be hopeful for? Will the Skenes effect eventually wear off the way it did at the end of last season when the team starts going downhill? Bucco Auction House – Round 1. PG columnist Jason Mackey joined the show. Jason has the Pirates at 84 wins. He explained why the Pirates have Tommy Pham in the lineup on Opening Day and why he may get the nod more than Jack Suwinski early on. Jason isn't sure if David Bednar will be the closer and we are all in for a mystery if the Pirates have the lead today in the 9th inning.
