Hour 2 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Dan Fisher said Pitt's experience this season is a major separator compared to the previous three teams that have reached the final two rounds. Dan thinks Liv Babcock is definitely worthy of National Player of the Year. Pitt will play Louisville at Louisville and could play Penn State in the national championship. Has Joey Porter Jr. taken a step back? Minkah Fitzpatrick hasn't forced a turnover since 2022 and continues to be alarming for Joe.
Has Joey Porter Jr. taken a step back? He uses his hands too often and AJ Brown totaled over 100 receiving yards against Porter. Bob likes that he's not afraid and has infectious confidence. Minkah Fitzpatrick hasn't forced a turnover since 2022 and continues to be alarming for Joe.
We talked about Bill Belichick taking the head coaching job at UNC. Now that Belichick is not available, it seems likely that Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll will be back with the Giants. We went over the history of their drafts and how successful they were in the NFL. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Scott Boras talking about Pete Alonso. Mike Francesa was on with BT & Sal & they asked him about the WFAN Mount Rushmore. The Louisville head coach was asked about his difficult stretch, and he said all is good his wife is hot. Shannon Sharpe and Ochocinco talked about Belichick going to UNC and Ocho working with him on Inside The NFL. Aaron Rodgers talked about how great SportsCenter was but now it's all just talk shows. The Hawks beat the Knicks at the Garden and Trae Young had more fun at midcourt. In the final segment of the hour, Gio felt old watching Hard Knocks AFC North when Joey Porter was telling stories.
Hour 1 Bill Belichick has taken the job at UNC. For those wondering how he'll get 18 year old kids to buy in, Gio said all you need to look at is the fact he got a 24 year old woman to have relations with him. No NFL teams seemed to have real interest in Belichick. Boomer said North Carolina is desperate to make themselves relevant. Boomer also thinks NFL owners may not like him dating such a younger woman with him being 72. Jerry is here for his first update of the day, but first Boomer said he's worried about C-Mac because of the whole Juan Soto situation. David Stearns was asked about Jose Iglesias and Jesse Winker potentially coming back. Tommy DeVito will get the start this weekend against Baltimore. Aaron Rodgers talked about just being on the edge of doing great things. Joe Burrow talked about the burglary and feels his privacy has been violated in more ways than one. The Knicks got bounced from the cup in their loss to the Hawks. In the final segment of the hour, we took calls on Belichick going to UNC. Hour 2 Boomer is very congested and has some sort of device you put in your nose where one side sucks and one side blows. He tries it on air and it is disgusting. We then went into all the news and rumors we got about the drones in NJ. Jerry returns for an update and starts with Scott Boras and his terrible puns regarding MLB free agency. Tua talked about the great lengths he goes through to not get burglarized. The Knicks lost to the Hawks and Trae Young at the Garden. In the final segment of the hour, we wrapped up our talk about the drones/UAPs over NJ. Hour 3 We talked about Bill Belichick taking the head coaching job at UNC. The Hawks beat the Knicks at the Garden and Trae Young had more fun at midcourt. In the final segment of the hour, Gio felt old watching Hard Knocks AFC North when Joey Porter was telling stories. Hour 4 We talked about this weekend's Army/Navy game and whether Joe Biden and Donald Trump will both be in attendance. Today is the Audacy Christmas party and Gio jokes that it's being held in the freight elevator. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with audio from Mike Lombardi talking about going with Belichick to UNC. Aaron Rodgers talked about how he's feeling after the Miami game. AJ Brown talked to the media and said he has no issues with Jalen Hurts. Hurts also said they are good. Gary Vee echoes Jerry and says we're all going to die, so go do something. We talked about Al and his dog and how they spend their days and Jerry made that Moment of The Day. In the final segment of the show, Gio has no power at home probably because of the high winds. Boomer said that Sydney and Matt are expecting twins. Gio talked about his wife giving out too much information on the Sayville Moms Facebook page.
Neal Coolong joins the show to discuss the Steelers win over the Browns; Pittsburgh's schedule the rest of the year; the Steelers run defense versus Saquon Barkley this week; Joey Porter, Jr., penalty issues; Jalen Hurts and is there something more the Steelers can do with Justin Fields.
I wrap up Mike Tomlin's presentation conference with Chris Adamski as we discuss Hard Knocks, the Joey Porter's penalties, George Pickens' penalties, Myles Garrett vs. the Steelers OLine, and even the discussion about an MLB Golden At Bat. On the Monday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette insider Ray Fittipaldo to react to the Steelers' NFL Week 4 loss against the Indianapolis Colts. What happened to DC Teryl Austin's defense in yielding by far its most points in a game this season? How could the game have ended differently if Joey Porter seizes two opportunities to make interceptions, or Patrick Queen recovers a fumble by Colts QB Anthony Richardson in the first quarter? And why weren't T.J. Watt and the pass rushers able to generate more pressure on immobile backup QB Joe Flacco? Our duo tackles those questions, then turns attention to the offense. Were Justin Fields' fumbles at QB forgivable as he looks to hold off Russell Wilson for the starting job? Are mistakes to be expected from the offensive line amid a rash of injuries to guys like Isaac Seumalo and James Daniels, which have pressed young players including Zach Frazier, Mason McCormick, Spencer Anderson and Broderick Jones into service? And can OC Arthur Smith get receivers Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III more involved in the offense? Or is another solid veteran needed for that group?
Anthony Richardson is the clear choice to start in Jacksonville - if the injured hip allows him to play. Colts with a great job of scheming to take advantage of Joey Porter, Jr. James Boyd of The Athletic asks a great question of Shane Steichen about his confidence in Matt Gay! On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Christopher Carter welcomes former Steelers and Penn State standout Justin King to break down the Steelers' OC search so far. Are interviews by the Rams' Zac Robinson and former Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury good signs? Which would be the better choice between the two? And which other possible candidate deserve interviews? Our duo tackles those topics and also looks at the team's secondary. What grade does Joey Porter Jr. deserve for his rookie campaign? Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Joe Marino of the Locked on Bills podcast for Crossover Thursday. The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without T.J. Watt in their playoff matchup with the Buffalo Bills. Chris Carter and Joe Marino go over what they'll have to do to win. It'll require a team effort spurred by the return of Minkah Fitzpatrick, as well as the efforts of Joey Porter Jr. to limit Stefon Diggs. That's no easy task, but the Steelers have also found ways to disrupt other good offenses this season, and it'll take another good plan to make that happen. Offensively, the Steelers must make their run game the prevailing factor with Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren and Broderick Jones. But that also has to be balanced with Mason Rudolph. The question will be how the Steelers attack the Bills' defense that finished the season with strong performances. On the Wednesday edition of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Adam Bittner welcomes former Steelers and Penn State cornerback Justin King to discuss the team's Super Bowl chances. Are there any parallels with the 2005 team that won the championship as the final seed in the AFC playoffs? Are the Bills the toughest team the Steelers might see on the AFC side of the bracket? How hard would it be to beat the Ravens for a third time this season? And which team among the Browns, Texans, Chiefs and Dolphins would be the ideal AFC championship opponent. Our duo tackles those topics, breaks down the matchup between Steelers rookie Joey Porter Jr. and Bills star Stefon Diggs; studies coach Mike Tomlin's options in the secondary this week; and analyzes a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter that Tomlin may want to take some time off and eventually join another team. Nailing down what exactly is "power pop" can be frustrating (we did a whole roundtable on it!), but the "power" end of it is usually found in the guitar section. From the big riffs of Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen to Robert Quine's excited guitar leads on Matthew Sweet albums, just because it's "pop" doesn't mean it doesn't rock. For their second album, Fountains of Wayne duo Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood recruited former Belltower guitarist Joey Porter and former Poises drummer Brian Young to complete the foursome. Two veteran players mean a tightened rhythm section and a bigger guitar sound that allows the band to expand their sound, touching not only on power pop from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, but elements of Britpop, psychedelia, and Queen grandiosity. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers have a big question: do they start Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph against the Seattle Seahawks? Chris Carter's answer is that if Pickett is 100% healthy, he has to start. But if he's not, Rudolph has proven he deserves a shot to lead the huddle again. But it's not as an easy of a debate as you think, as both sides have merit. But one key element guides this discussion above all else. Also, Najee Harris was asked about George Pickens in a way that showed how strongly he, Mike Tomlin and the team defend the locker room against potential problems coming from the media. That's a good sign that the Steelers' heads are in the right place as they try to lock in and win out on the season. Finally, Chris Carter explains why Joey Porter Jr. is way ahead of schedule as a rookie cornerback and is taking away top receivers left and right. Could he be the shutdown cornerback the Steelers have been looking for? And is that the big piece that could make this defense elite in the coming future? Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Jeff Lloyd of Locked on Browns for a Crossover Thursday. The Pittsburgh Steelers face the Cleveland Browns in a critical AFC North rematch, but without Deshaun Watson, who's out for the season and replaced by rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson. What changes in the Browns' offense should the Steelers expect? T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith won the first game for the Steelers, but now the Steelers have seen improved defensive performances from rookies Joey Porter Jr. and Keeanu Benton, and that could be the difference maker in the matchup. Also, Chris Carter and Jeff Lloyd discuss the impact of Watson's injury on the crowded AFC North race, and who might win the division with the Steelers and Browns playing the same weekend the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals face off on Thursday night football. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com. The Pittsburgh Steelers' rookies have started the 2023 strong, with Broderick Jones and Joey Porter Jr. looking good in their starts. But where on the offensive line should Jones play now that he's started at left and right tackle? Adding to that, Keeanu Benton and Darnell Washington have also been strong in their positions too. Are the rookies right on track to live up to the hype from the offseason? Also, Chris Carter and Alan Saunders discuss the Stars and Skulls grades for the Steelers in their win over the Tennessee Titans. T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith grade out high again, but so did the other players on the offense and defense, with few getting bad marks. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Tennessee Titans 20-16 Thursday night at Acrisure Stadium behind another clutch fourth quarter performance by Kenny Pickett. Pickett's clutch gene shows itself again as he has a 129.17 passer rating in the fourth quarter and leads his 7th game-winning drive and 6th fourth quarter comeback in his short career. Did having Matt Canada on the sideline help? It certainly got Diontae Johnson his first touchdown since 2021. Also, the Steelers' defense had a good game, and especially in the second half. Joey Porter Jr. put the clamps on DeAndre Hopkins, as NFL NextGen Stats showed elite coverage numbers for the rookie cornerback. But he was joined by other defenders who had good nights like T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, Cam Heyward, Damontae Kazee, Kwon Alexander and more. Is this defense rounding into form? And of course, the Steelers' offensive line looked VERY GOOD with Broderick Jones making his second start. Mike Tomlin HAS to find a way to get Jones on the field for the rest of the season. It opened up running lanes for Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, and the line had a major bounce back performance from last week. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Josh Taylor from KDKA-TV and 93.7 the Fan. The Pittsburgh Steelers might still start rookies Broderick Jones and Joey Porter Jr. this week, despite rumors that say otherwise. But it's still a question as to why the process has taken so long for both star rookies have taken so long to play. Mike Tomlin addressed that in his Tuesday press conference, but is he right about the way the Steelers are developing their rookies? Also, Tomlin roasted Chris Carter in response to a question about how his secondary has played top receivers this season. Chris responds to that moment on this show with Josh Taylor, and explains why Tomlin responded the way he did, and what he really means in his coach-speak language that forces you to read between the lines. Finally, the Steelers plan to release cornerback Desmond King and sign Darius Rush from the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad. What does this move mean for the future of the defense? Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Brooke Pryor of ESPN. The Pittsburgh Steelers got good news that receiver Diontae Johnson is set to return from injured reserve after the Steelers' bye week against the Los Angeles Rams and says he's 100% ready to go. But does getting back one starter from injury fix the offense with Kenny Pickett, George Pickens and Najee Harris? Also, Joey Porter Jr.'s growth looks like he's on pace to start for the Steelers, but will Mike Tomlin give him that chance? Brooke Pryor of ESPN gives her opinion on how Porter's improved and could change the Steelers' defense for the better. Finally, Brooke and Chris Carter discuss what the Steelers' secondary must do to fix its problems. That includes how Minkah Fitzpatrick is used, snap counts for Patrick Peterson and Levi Wallace, and what problems have come from Damontae Kazee and Keanu Neal at safety compared to Terrell Edmunds. Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com.The Pittsburgh Steelers saw Kenny Pickett and George Pickens connected for a huge game-winning touchdown over the Baltimore Ravens, but was that enough of a sign the offense can make significant progress under offensive coordinator Matt Canada? Chris Carter and Alan Saunders talk about the most important factor the offense must improve after the bye week, and the conspiracy theory about Canada not liking a supposed audible by Pickett on the game-winning touchdown. Also, it's time for Week 5 Stars and Skulls grades for the Steelers' win. While T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith continue to receive the highest grades, they're joined by a new linebacker with a top grade, as well as Pickens. How high did Broderick Jones and Joey Porter grade? The Pittsburgh Steelers saw Kenny Pickett and George Pickens connected for a huge game-winning touchdown over the Baltimore Ravens, but was that enough of a sign the offense can make significant progress under offensive coordinator Matt Canada? Chris Carter and Alan Saunders talk about the most important factor the offense must improve after the bye week, and the conspiracy theory about Canada not liking a supposed audible by Pickett on the game-winning touchdown. Also, it's time for Week 5 Stars and Skulls grades for the Steelers' win. While T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith continue to receive the highest grades, they're joined by a new linebacker with a top grade, as well as Pickens. How high did Broderick Jones and Joey Porter grade? And which of the Steelers received the most skulls? Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers found a way to beat the Baltimore Ravens 17-10 despite not playing well for most of the contest. Kenny Pickett found George Pickens on a 41-yard touchdown pass for the game-winning play, but only after the offense struggled for all but their touchdown drive. But key details about the final drive show chances for growth between Pickett and Pickens and the potential of the offense. The questions is, will it every be unleashed under Matt Canada? Meanwhile, the defense played a tough game against Lamar Jackson and Joey Porter Jr. had a game-saving interception in the fourth quarter, while T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith still wrecked the game off the edge, and Kwon Alexander, Cole Holcomb and Elandon Roberts had strong showings at linebacker. Has the defense found its strength yet? Finally, Chris Carter explains how despite all the Steelers' struggles, mistakes and coaching issues, they're 3-2 and in first place in the AFC North division. While there are still lots to complain about, the fact the Steelers are winning without playing their best ball yet could pay off later this season if the team does improve. But will they show real progress? CALL INTO THE SHOW AT 412-223-6644 or if international, e-mail your audio message to LOSTEELERSTOPICBAG@GMAIL.COM Follow Chris Carter on Twitter: @CarterCritiques. Locked On Steelers – Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Steelers
Chris Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast. The Pittsburgh Steelers found a way to steal a win from the Baltimore Ravens in a 17-10 victory that was boosted by big plays from young players. Kenny Pickett threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to George Pickens for his fifth 4th quarter comeback in 17 starts for the Steelers. Rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr. made a game changing interception late, when he picked off Lamar Jackson in the red zone to give the Steelers a chance to make the comeback. It wasn't a good game in whole by the Steelers, but it's another win, and now they're 3-2 at the top of the AFC North heading into a much needed bye week. Chris Carter shares his postgame reaction from Acrisure Stadium just after the game. August 2, 2023 - Season 14, Episode 3 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the recent roster moves the Pittsburgh Steelers have made since our last show on Monday. We also discuss a few players that were brought in for Tuesday tryouts. We also address the health of the team entering Wednesday and that includes talking about the non-contact injury that rookie cornerback Cory Trice Jr. sustained on Tuesday. The training camp battle between Steelers wide receiver George Pickens and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. should be fun to watch moving forward. Pickens made an amazing catch over the top of Porter on Tuesday and that produced a nice discussion. Alex goes over a few of his other main takeaways from the Tuesday training camp practice in this show. He also gives a look ahead at things he will be on watch for on Wednesday at Saint Vincent College. At the end of this show, Alex and I discuss the various kinds of leaders the Steelers have on defense. Several other minor topics not noted in this recap are also discussed in this 45-minute episode.
